From lightroom to website

I am using Lightroom extensively to import and keyword my images. I want to be able to ues info in LR such as keywords etc in an online website so people can do an easy search of my website and images. I dont have the expertise to do that. How do I do that?

That's a tricky problem, Tim. If I had a lot of time on my hands I would...
1. Export all required images as JPGs, complete with metadata. On a Windows XP/2000/Vista PC, I believe the metadata is implemented as hidden "streams" of information in the JPG files.
2. Create a SQL Server database to represent keyword metadata.
3. Write a program to populate the SQL database from the hidden stream content of exported files.
4. Develop a custom ASP.Net web application to search & display content from the SQL database.
As that would probably take weeks of my time, somehow I don't think I'd be doing it!
It's a reasonable thing to want to do, though. It would be dead simple, for example, if the auto-generated Flash control that Lightroom uses had an option to do searching. Even the option to export metadata as an XML file (which I think someone else already asked for) would be a big help.

  • Exporting photos from Lightroom that are good enough quality for a photography website.

I am doing a website for a photographer client that need to showcase their images in a rotating gallery that will be about 1/2 the page so pretty big. She gave me all the photos in FULL size which meant that they were excellent quality and looked amazing on my computer at home as I have fast internet and they all loaded up in seconds. Only problem, when I tried it on a different internet source that wasn’t as speedy, they took so long to load that the next one would start, hence no images ever being visible. This is not good as not everyone will have as fast internet as me and it’s pointless if no one can see her work.
She then exported them for web, using the normal settings that she usually would, leaving them around 200-600KB which loads up nice and quickly, but the quality just don’t do the photo’s justice AT ALL!
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of the setting to use to export them from lightroom so that the quality is still next to perfect, but they are small enough so that they load up in a reasonable time on the web.
Each photo displays for 5 full seconds before alternating.
Thank you in advance and if you have any further suggestions, I would love to hear them.

You need to use export settings similar to this:
Quality setting should be at least 60, but you can sometimes get away with less. (smaller file size)
But if you need to export a lot of images, do them all at 60, and re-export as necessary. If you for instance see blockiness in a clear blue sky, increase quality until it goes away.
Color space must be set to sRGB.
Set the required size in pixels, using Long edge is quite convenient. Whatever you enter in the resolution box doesn't matter - web browser ignore ppi.
Experiment with Screen sharpening to find the setting that works best. Standard usually works OK, but it depends on the sharpness of the original.
Set Metadata to Copyright Only, this keeps file size down.

  • Can´t publich websites from Lightroom 5 (works with version 4)

Hi, I use Lightroom 5 to create websites for my sports photos. The problem is that since upgrading to version 5 (5.7) I always get a error message so I have to export my photos and then publich from Lightroom version 4. Any one know what the problem might be?

Hi, thanks for respond. And yeah it is the same subfolder and everything is
exactly the same, my thought was that you maybe didn’t have upgraded for
newer versions or something like that.. any ideas?

  • Photoshop CS-6 does not open images from Lightroom 5

I do have Photoshop CS-6 and Lightroom 5.  Nearly all images were created in a Windows 7 (64 bit) environment.  I have moved platforms to MAC. I have moved all images and the Catalog. I have changed platform to MAC. I am now using MAC OS-X (10.9.1).
I am able to see all images in Lightroom, I am able to modify all images in Lightroom. I can export the images to Jpeg (for example) from Lightroom.  I do have a warining at several images in Lightroom = "metadates have been changed - would you like to overwrite data or import ?"
First time I have tried to open an Image from Lightroom (hand over) Photoshop opens, but does not show any picture and no error message. But when I then look to recently opened files, the image is in the list. When I do click on this, Photoshop shows and error message: "the datamodule can not handle the file format" (which is either RAW or jpeg).
Another expirience is, when I try to open directly from Photoshop any other image, Photoshop ignores the XMP and opens the original file without any modification.

That's normal if the raw files were originally edited in Lightroom. Lightroom stores all edits in the catalog, not the xmp sidecar. You can set Lightroom to write to xmp as well, but that slows it down a little and so it's off by default. The Lightroom shortcut ctrl/cmd+S will also save to xmp.

That's related to the above, and also normal if you go the other way - edit in ACR and then move to Lightroom. It'll then be in xmp, but not the Lightroom catalog.
As for the missing on-screen image, that's a common video driver bug (although I suppose other causes are possible). For Windows you can download updated drivers directly from the manufacturer's website, but that's not possible with Mac. You'll have to wait for Apple to fix it.

    Hi Ashley Clavette,
The Initial view setting works perfectly when the file is opened in Acrobat after setting the desired Initial View.
When you upload the file onto Wordpress, and view it on that website in the browser...it might be using a different pdf handler program which might be causing this issue ( it would be helpful, if you could provide the screenshot) , however when you download the pdf again from wordpress server...and open in Acrobat/Reader...then what  exactly happens ?  Does the pdf opens in the desired Initial View setting?

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 4.3

I'm in Lightroom 4.3 and right clicking on a image and clicking "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS6". CS6 opens as if it's going to open up with my photo from Lightroom, but my photo doesn't show up?

This is probably a video card driver bug which has been reported in the PS forum from time to time. It's a PS problem, not a LR problem.
Assuming this is Windows, go to the video card maker's website and download an updated driver. Don't rely on Windows update; they're frequently several versions behind. On a Mac it would have to be through OS X updates.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 4.1 fails

I am using LR 4.1 and PS CS6 on a Win7 64bit system.  Previously with LR3 and LR4 I was able to "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom to CS5 and all was well.  Now with LR4.1 and PS CS6 when I "Edit in Photoshop CS6" I get a partial image.  Any image that I try produces various versions of this.  The attached screen capture shows a blank area in the upper left corner.  Other images have shown several smaller blank areas in various positions on the image, and one image contained several blank areas plus a small inset of the image.
This is quite frustrating, as I generally use LR to crop and make minor adjustments in a photo, then edit some photos in PS.  Now I can no longer edit anything in PS without first exporting the image from LR, work on it in PS, then save it and reimport it into LR.  Very inconvenient.
Please advise what I am doing wrong or let me know if there is a workaround.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Herschel

  • How do I upgrade from Lightroom 1 to 4 or 5?

I have registered my Lightroom 1, but it doesn't show as being registered in Creative Cloud. When I go to add the serial number, it says it's already registered and I can't add it. It's not syncing, even though my email addresses are the same. I figure there will be a cost involved from upgrading from 1 to any other version which I am okay with, but the only options I can find are to buy new, as it's not registering that I've paid for Lightroom 1. Or, because it's so old does it not matter and I just have to start from scratch?
I tried to do the online chat with Adobe, but it kept giving me an error on the page and pointing me to the forums.
    Thank you.

I cannot make the decision for you about subscribing to the creative cloud. It's an excellent program, and it provides you access to the latest Photoshop and Lightroom. If you have installed Lightroom 5 as a trial version from the creative cloud then it will be necessary for you to uninstall that installation because it cannot be activated with a serial number. It is the same program, but it is licensed completely differently. If you really want to purchase Lightroom 5, then you can purchase it from the following website:
    Products
Lightroom is toward the bottom of the page. You'll notice that it says that you can upgrade from $79. When you click on the buy Link you should be able to purchase an upgrade. When you do you will be sent instructions on where to download the program from, and you will be provided with your serial number.
If you decide to subscribe to the creative cloud then you won't have a serial number for Lightroom or Photoshop. Both programs are activated using your Adobe ID and password. And you won't need your Lightroom 1 serial number because you aren't purchasing an upgrade.

  • I want to upload pictures to Shutterfly. Can I do this directly from Lightroom 5?

I want to upload pictures to a website that enables those who view the pictures to download them to their own computers. I have been using Shutterfly, but am open to using another if it's easier.  It doesn't appear I can do this directly from Lightroom 5 but would have to upload from the files on my hard drive.
I also want to know if any Metadata I add to photos in Lightroom, such as descriptive text, would upload with the file so that it can been seen on Shutterfly.  I want to add descriptions in Lightroom but don't want to have to enter them all again on a sharing website.

Apparently this plug-in will give you the ability to do this: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1797027
It will work with Lightroom 5.x apparently.

  • Jumping to Photomerge from Lightroom 5

I am using both Lightroom 5 and Elements 12 on an iMac. Following the worked examples in Scott Kelby's brilliant book on Lightroom I am trying to use the panorama option but on the Photo>Edit In menu it is greyed out. I can go straight to Elements and it works fine but I cannot make the jump from Lightroom. The versions I have are Lightroom 5 version 5.7 and Elements 12 version 12.1. Any ideas

Thank you for taking the time to help with this. Yes I have more than one image selected. I am following Scott Kelby's instructions to the letter and using the images he provides via his website. In this case there are 16 images but I also have tried just 2 and 3.
