Frontpanel size, dimension and behaviour...

Hi,
I have some problems with the frontpanel of my application:
I created a kind of main menu with a bar on the lower side and another on the left of the screen. The lower bar should always be visible, the above (including left bar) should be covered by a frontpanel of a by-reference-called VI.
The problems I have:
-I can't configure the vi so that it's using the entire screen AND showing the exact section of the frontdiagramm. I always move the frontpanel a bit, press RUN, look, stop, move again...but that is not convenient.
-Then I'd like to put another VI's frontpanel (chosen by main menu VI)on top of this main menu VI. Again the frontpanel has to be positioned exactly.
I found some threads about win API call
s, but they were quite old. I'm using LV7e.
So please tell me about how you're arranging your application's windows in an exact manner.
If you need a more detailed explanantion please let me know...
Thanks and best regards,
Andreas

This can be done fairly easily using property nodes.
Property nodes set to read the VI properties can give you front panel size and position, and you can also set them to whatever you want.
So you just need to get a VI reference (Functions Palette>Application Control>Open VI Reference) to the VIs you want position, then use property nodes (Functions Palette>Application Control>Property Node) to read and set the size or position as needed.
Open the Example Finder and navigate to "Programmatically Controlling VIs>Controlling Front Panel Objects and double click VI Server - Changing Another VI's Properties.vi. This will open an example VI that shows the basics of how to use property nodes to move things around.
Just be sure to close all the refer
ences you open.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

What size (dimensions and ppi) images sould I make in Photo Shop so they fit into the 9 x 11.25 ibook? (I am a professional photographer who captures in RAW).
I have sent a number of sizes to iPhoto for use in an iBook and they all are too big for the software so I get cropped images even when zoom slider is at it's smallest.
This is very frustrating. I am on a dealine. Please help.

Is your question about a printed book? If so, you likely want to redirect your question to either the iPhoto or Apertuare forums, depending on the software you'll be using to submit your book for printing to Apple.
This forum is actually focussed on the iBooks application for reading (and creating) electronic books for Apple's iOS devices such as the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
    Good luck!

This may depend on your chosen encoding options for the Mails (MIME vs. Base64 or similar) and/or the mails being reduced in size and sliced up server side. Apple (and Google) do stuff like recompressing images when viewing mails on mobile devices from an Apple ID or Gmail account... You have to turn it off in their web frontends....

  • Pixel Dimensions and File Size

Can anybody please explain the relation between pixel dimensions and file size?
Being naive, (or straight-forward if you prefer) I had assumed that pixel dimensions wide times pix dimension high = file size. Wrong!
For instance a .JPG file 374 X 500 has a file size of 41,275 bytes. But 374 times 500 = 18,700 so the two are different issues.

Thanks Rich. It kind of sounds like you know something about this.
I see 1 pixel, and 24 bit color would make 24 bits at 8 bits to a byte, so there's the 3 bytes.
I selected a certain photo and used the APPLE i command to see if could find if it had 8 bit color or, whatever. That infomation was not on the info function, but it did say something about RGB color profile.
Is 8 bit color a near certain bet in most applications, or was that just for the sake of illustration?
I Googled 8 bit color and go to a Wikipedia Article
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth
which explained a lot, but its more technical depth than what I'm prepared to deal with. The net net, as far as I can tell is that image size (before compression) is dimension times color depth in its native mode, but I suppose what the native mode is and what the displayed mode is could be separate issues?
I was under the impression that the compression in JPG formt files comes out, or is decompressed, when the photo is printed or displayed? No?

I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

  • Is it possible to resize a photo in iPhoto--controlling the maximum dimensions and the dpi?

is it possible to resize a photo in iPhoto--controlling the maximum dimensions and the dpi?

The dpi depends on the print size you'll be making. This explains it in detail:  The Myth of DPI.
A 300 dpi image for a 4x6 print will have fewer pixels in it than a 300 dpi image for an 8. 10 print.
You can set the pixel dimension of a photo by exporting it via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and use the Custom size setting.  However, you should crop the photo to the size ratio you want before exporting, i.e 4 x 6, 5 x 7, etc.  Then set the maximum pixel size you want for the image:

  • Image Size reduction and gain resolution... Help?

I have searched the forums and seen plenty of talk of Image Size and resolutions but havent stumbled upon what I need.
Hopefully someone will be nice enough to help me or to link me to help?
I have a large photo (3456x2304) but it is at 72ppi.
I am trying to use it as a very small image (200px or so) but I need it at 300ppi.
I keep going into Image Size and reducing its dimensions to the size I need and marking 300dpi.
Problem is when it resizes it gets horribly pixelated!!!
I cant figure out how to use the image size and/or crop tool in order to reduce the dimensions and not lose quality.
Best work around I have found is to reduce it to about 750px 72ppi and then in illustrator contract the image to the actual print size while gaining resolution...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a relationship between image size and ppi (resolution)  that can not be changed.  Here is an example from the web titled "understanding resolution".
Let's say you have an image that is 9 inches wide and 6 inches high with a resolution of 240 pixels/ per inch (8.9mb file).  If you change one of the values the other two will change (resample image turned off).  In this example if you changed the width to 6 inches the height would become 4 inches and the resolution would become 360 ppi.
So if you are taking a large image and reducing the size the ppi has to go up.  There are the same number of pixels in the picture, they are compressed into a smaller space.  The article says this is because a digital image has no absolute size or resolution.  All it has is a certain number of pixels in each dimension.
    Hope this helps.

  • Infocube line item dimension and performance optimization

    Hi,
I remodelled an infocube and line item dimension contains only one characteristics set as line item dimension.
previously the dimension as one characteristics but it wasn't set as line item dimension.
and when I checked the SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS from SE38  it looks ok.
    /SAP/CUBE   /SAP/CUBE3   rows:        8663  ratio:          3  %
After setting it as line item the rows is now minus but it is showing red which means that there is problem with the dimension
    /SAP/CUBE   /SAP/CUBE3   rows:          1-   ratio:          0  %
Its this a performance problem since it is showing red.
    thanks

    hi,
    No,its not performance issue.
for a dimension to be line item dimension...the dimension size shouldn't be more than 20% size of the fact table size.
when a dimension is set as line item dimension, the regarding SID will be placed in Fact Table, but not the DIM ID.
may be that is the reason when your dimension is not line item dimension,it shows the number of rows and when it is made line item dimension, its not showing any rows and the ratio also null.
hope this is clear for you.

  • Dimension and Fact table Ratios

    Hi All,
I have loaded some test data into my Cube and executed the program "SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS" to get the ratios of Dimension tables to Fact table. I found that 1 dimension is almost equal to the fact table. but, as far as my knowledge, a dimension table should not exceed 30% of the fact table, please correct me if I am wrong.
To decrease the size of the dimension table, I have created another dimension and included some of the chars, from the bigger dimension, in it. I have loaded the data again and ran the program again. But, the program result is still showing the same as previous i.e the ratio has not been changed and even the newly added dimension is not being showed. Do I need to refresh something to get the new ratios?
    Thanks,
    RPK.

    Hi Paolo,
I tried as you suggested but unfortunately no luck. Below are the steps I performed.
RC on the cube->Manage->Performance tab->Click on "Refresh Statistics".
    I also tried:
RC on the cube->Manage->Performance tab->Click on "Create Statistics(Btch)".
    What could be wrong?
    Thanks,

  • Improve Performance of Dimension and Fact table

    Hi All,
Can any one explain me the steps how to improve performance of Dimension and Fact table.
    Thanks in advace....
    redd

    Hi!
There is much to be said about performance in general, but I will try to answer your specific question regarding fact and dimension tables.
First of all try to compress as many requests as possible in the fact table and do that regularily.
Partition your compressed fact table physically based on for example 0CALMONTH. In the infocube maintenance, in the Extras menu, choose partitioning.
Partition your cube logically into several smaller cubes based on for example 0CALYEAR. Combine the cubes with a multiprovider.
Use constants on infocube level (Extras->Structure Specific Infoobject properties) and/or restrictions on specific cubes in your multiprovider queries if needed.
Create aggregates of subsets of your characteristics based on your query design. Use the debug option in RSRT to investigate which objects you need to include.
To investigate the size of the dimension tables, first use the test in transaction RSRV (Database Information about InfoProvider Tables). It will tell you the relative sizes of your dimensions in comparison to your fact table. Then go to transaction DB02 and conduct a detailed analysis on the large dimension tables. You can choose "table columns" in the detailed analysis screen to see the number of distinct values in each column (characteristic). You also need to understand the "business logic" behind these objects. The ones that have low cardinality, that is relate to each other shoule be located together. With this information at hand you can understand which objects contribute the most to the size of the dimension and separate the dimension.
Use line item dimension where applicable, but use the "high cardinality" option with extreme care.
Generate database statistics regularily using process chains or (if you use Oracle) schedule BRCONNECT runs using transaction DB13.
    Good luck!
    Kind Regards
    Andreas

  • Understanding dimensions and issues w/ Bridge

So I'm super new to Illustrator and I'm trying to wrap my head around some basic things and I'm an idiot because I'm just not getting it. What I'm trying to do actually is create a properly sized file to upload to Zazzle, if you're familiar with the site. I downloaded one of their guide files in the 5x7 size to play around with but they don't have one for the posters which is what I want to create. My problem is that while their guide file shows in Adobe Bridge with dimensions as 5x7 inches and 1400x1000 pixels at 200 PPI in the RGB color mode, but a similar file that I created from scratch with inches being the unit shows in Bridge with no value for the inches dimensions, the PPI, or color mode and with a value of pixels at 504x360. Why is there a difference? How the heck do I get 200 PPI? Why are all these values missing from the file properties in Bridge and why are the pixels so small? I've tried it the other way around and created a file using pixels as the units and entered 1400x1000 pixels but once it's created if I switch my Rulers to inches they show the size being almost 20x14 inches - what the? Either way, any document I create is missing those file property values in Bridge.
Here are my settings when creating a file (I choose the Basic RGB profile first then change the dimensions and raster effects):
Now here is how the Zazzle guide file's file properties look in Adobe Bridge:
Then here is how the file properties of the file I created from scratch looks:
It'd be really nice to figure out how to create a file that looks the same file property-wise and dimensions-wise as the Zazzle guide file. Why am I getting this wonky behavior in Bridge? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Jacob. Let me ask you this, can you create a raster image but it still be in the .AI file format? If so, how?
I think I kind of get what you're saying, but I feel like everyone is telling me I can't create a white elephant even though I'm standing right next to one. Their 5x7 guide file is 1000x1400 pixels and it's an .AI file not exported as whatever - how is that possible?
Here is the link to the recomended sizes for all their products:

Here is a link to download my white elephant of a file:

How do I recreate that file?

  • How do I re-size (dimensions

How do I re-size (both dimensions and mgs) a photo in iPhoto?  I have iPhoto II.

Is that really iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 11?
    If it's iPhoto 2 I'm with Larry, I'm afraid.
    With current versions:
As Larry says: crop the pic to your preferred aspect ratio
File -> Export and note two heading:
Jpeg Quality refers to the file size in MB or KB
Size refers to the lenght x breath

  • Pixel dimensions and resolution

When designing for an iphone4 we set up the canvas to 640x960 pix, but we discussed if we should define the resolution to 326ppi, as described in the iphone tech spec.
When the pixeldimensions are defined - why does a pixelbased program like Fireworks ask for resolution? I should think that only non-pixel based output wanted definition of dimensions and resolution.
    Can you help?
    Nina Storm

Yes. Go ahead with the reccomendations for PPI for iphone. Dimensions are merely the height and width of the image. Those are independant of resolution. Fireworks default resolution is 72 PPI. Since PPI doesn't affect the exported file size, it doesn't matter, at least for web pages displayed in a browser, if you use 72 PPI or 500.
