Hi Dennis,
I am using D2xx driver for FTDI.As i want to write and read back data from FTDI FT4232 chip.I hav connected loop back wire between TX and RX buffer of UART port of FT 4232 chip. I m using  FTDI's D2XX drivers to find a device, open it, write data in a byte-array format, read data in a byte-array format and close the device from http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/SoftwareExamples/CodeExamples/LabVIEW.htm example 1.
My device getting detected ,but i am not geting the read data back.
Is that example having some error ? or i have to add something else?
thanks in advance

  • DSO9404A Automation using Labview

    Dear sir,
I would like to know whether it is possible to access digital output (4 channels) of above DSO9404A oscilloscope through Ethernet using LabVIEW. I tried with DSO9404A IVI drivers and example VIs are available in LabVIEW to control the scope, but it is throwing errors. Kindly let me know the procedure to automate the oscilloscope.

Yes, Oscilloscope is detected in NI MAX. I configured scope via LAN directly to my PC. It is throwing the below mentioned error while running the example Acq Wfm Edge Trigged.VI. Kindly let me know the another procedure instead of IVI drivers to control the scope. Means if signals are present at 4 channels i have to do some manual adjustments like auto scale, trigger source, changing of time scale and voltage levels, etc. Thease things should be automated every time when the signals are presented at 4 channels.

    hi,
I have a little problem, maybe someone can help me.
I want to communicate between FPGA and USB using Labview 8.2.
I'm using ALTERA Cyclone II FPGA and
FT245BL USB from FTDI and I tried to test the write-read routine
(labview example) from FTDI website (see the link below):
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Projects/CodeExamples/LabVIEW.htm
    The
write function is working (the bytes are written in the paralel
port). The function FT_GetQueueStatus returns a parameter Bytes Waiting
which is zero, so this means there are no bytes to read from FTDI
    device.My question is:
Is there any protocol already implemented in Labiew and a website from
where I can download it to do the communication between FPGA and USB?
I have the VHDL code downloaded from ALTERA website and I installed all the
required drivers related to my FTDI device model. The drivers were downloaded from
    the www.ftdichip.com
website and also the D2XX _functions_7.0 for Labview.

    Hello,
Thanks for your reply.I will try to answer your questions.
I have checked the Device Mananger and I have seen that the device is detected by Windows  XP.  For another question the card shows up under both NI-DAQmx Devices and Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) Devices consistently in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.I use a way that I reset the driver for traditional NI-DAQ in MAX,and then i reset the device for NI-DAQmx driver in MAX and again i tried to run the test panel of DAQmx driver but again i saw a wrong signal or noise signal on the test panel i could not see the sinusoidal signal that i connected. i do get the test panels to run with the card using the DAQmx driver,  But could not run the DAQ diagnostic utility. The error was as i specified below.

  • How do I browse & play .mp3 files from a USB flash drive using Labview 8.0?

I'm a tester & want to test USB flash drives connected to PC.
I want to browse the file system & playback the audio files, .jpeg files etc in the USB drive. I've Labview 8.0. When I searched for some examples or VIs which can detect the USB flash drive, couldn't find any. So if you could point me in the right direction, I can find a solution to my problem.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You probably won't find specific examples for this.  A USB flash drive is mounted by the OS and appears as a new memory storage device to all software on the PC, including LabVIEW.  You can certainly write a LabVIEW program to open files on the stick and play/run them but I would create a VI that wrote files to the stick and then read them back and checked them for bit-level errors.  Keep in mind that your OS might be doing parity checking under the hood which would make your test rather meaningless.
BTW, testing memory by looking at pics or listening to MP3s would be useless of course.  A human can't see or hear bit-level errors in a high bandwidth data stream.

  • How use an ESP motion controller to drive an actuator by using Labview program?

Our group bought a Universal Motion Conroller/Driver from Newport company and
its model is ESP 300. Right now, I am going to use it remotely and I want
to use Labview to compile the driving program. My thought is to move an
actuator step by step in x-axis and the length of step moving is 2cm.
After moving 40cm on x-axis from the beginning to the end, I will move the
actuator one step on y-axis. Then I moving from the beginning to the end
on x-axis again. I wonder whether somebody has such a labview program
or not. Or, has anybody other sample Labview programs for the
controller to control the moving? Can you provide them to me?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hello,
There are several examples written in LabVIEW to do what you are trying to do but they will only work with National Instruments motion controllers, as they use driver specific VIs. In order to use your controller with LabVIEW you'll need a shared library of some sort. Once you have this library you can program your controller in LabVIEW by making function calls referencing to its shared library. See built-in LabVIEW examples for 'Using External Code'.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you decide to go with one of National Instruments motion controllers instead and need help finding those examples I was referencing above.

  • How to use labview to drive a New Focus Picomotor sinusoidally

    Hello,
I am currently trying to use Labview to control a NewFocus Picomotor (Model# 8302)using the inteligent driver model 8753:
    http://www.newfocus.com/products/?navid=3&theView=modelDetail&productLineId=6&productGroupId=195&mod...
    http://www.newfocus.com/index.cfm?navId=97   (Using MCL with Labview)
Ideally I would like to modify a preexisting driver to drive the motor sinusoidally in the 30-70 Hz range with control over the amplitude.  At this point, I am completely daunted by the complexity of the example files and have no clue where to start.  Any assistance with this matter is GREATLY appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    BRox

    BRox,
I had a look at the examples and obviously all it does is to communicate to the drive through RS232 with a proprietary protocol. With the documentation in the block diagram and the documentation of the protocol it shouldn't be too hard to understand what's going on, but on the other side NewFocus has obviously missed a chance to provide a high level and easy to use API for their product...
I can't dive too deeply into the features of this drive, but before you spend too much time on understanding their command language, you should check with NewFocus, if it is possible at all to meet your requirements with their hardware. The main reason why I doubt that is the slow communication speed provided by RS232. The only way to reach a sinusoidal motion profile of 30 to 70 Hz with this type of communication is running the complete trajectory generation and interpolation onboard. If you have planned to generate the motion profile in LabVIEW and send setpoint commands to the drive this will probably not work.
If the drive provides another command input (e. g. an analog +/- 10 V input for torque or velocity command signals), we can talk about alternative approaches.

  • Using LabView, Arduino, and Easy-Driver to control a Stepper Motor

Hello fair folks of the LabView forums!
I am a humble engineering student in need of some advice and input on a project I am working on.
I’ve also done a fair amount of reading on the LabView forums with people trying to use LabView and Arduino to control stepper motors, and I’ve used as much information from each as I could. However the problem I'm encountering now is one which is unique to my VI Configuration.
So, here is what has been done thus far:
-Installed LabView Interface for Arduino [LIFA]
-Installed necessary VISA drivers for LabView to communicate with arduino
-Uploaded firmware to Arduino to allow it to communicate with LabView
-Properly wired Stepper Motor with Easy Driver and Power Supply; I have verified this by first using the Arduino independently of LabView, using example code found here.
-I have created a VI, and have just recently got it to run without reporting back any errors. While I suspect the behavior I’m encountering has to do with something inside the VI, it is difficult to determine as there are no errors being reported!
But here is general problem I am encountering:
-Connect Joystick to USB Port, connect Arduino to USB Port.
-Plug in outlet for Power Supply
    -Open LabView VI
    -Run LabView VI
-LabView successfully detects Joystick, and Arduino.
-Tilt Joystick; Stepper Motor moves in proper direction, but it only takes a single step. If held, it does not move further. If returned to zero, and then tilted, it again only takes a single step.
I know that in the example code, the Arduino issued the step command by writing the signal from LOW to HIGH, and varied the speed by how often it did this.
I assumed that the Write-PWM feature would do this same thing, but perhaps my assumption is wrong. I will continue to tinker with this myself, but I would be extremely grateful for any insight you might be able to lend.
I’m thinking, if not the Arduino Write-PMW feature perhaps a simple timing-sequence that could be used to alternate between writing 0 and 1, with the timescale of the sequence being scaled to the X-Axis from the Joystick. But, I am open to suggestions, and certainly appreciate any thoughts you may have to offer!
Attached to this is the VI used in this setup, a picture of said VI, as well as a rough sketch of the hardware configuration.
    Thank you!

  • Using a driver with labview

I want to create a GUI using labview to control a data acquisition card using a driver that was not created in labview. Could someone point me in the direction of some documentation that would give me some info on doing this.
    Thanks

If you're using a non NI data acquisition card and the manufacturer doesn't have a LabVIEW driver, then you'll probably be using either a DLL or ActiveX interface that they provide. For interfacing to third praty DLLs, start with "Using External code in LabVIEW" that is part of the LabVIEW Bookshelf. You will need details from the manufacturer on the function calls. There are some shipping examples on ActiveX. The Invoke Node and Property Node functions on the Communication>ActiveX palette are used to access methods and properties.
If you were to mention the make and model of the board you're using, you might find someone here with knowledge of it that would provide more details.

  • Mounting drives using LabVIEW

    Hi all,
To start off, I'm using LabVIEW 2011 on a Windows 7 machine. I've been mounting flash drives to a work computer, so that I can plug in more than 26 flash drives at a time, and now I've been asked to create a LabVIEW program that can mount the flash drives easily so that anyone can do it.
When I mount a flash drive, I use the Disk Management utility found in the computer managment utility. I did, however, figure out how to mount the flash drives using the command prompt utility, using a command called diskpart. My problem is, if you open a command prompt and type in diskpart, it opens a new command prompt window. I thought that I would be able to use the system exec.vi to enter in multiple commands to the same command prompt window, and recieve the output from the commands, but since diskpart opens it's own window, I cannot do this. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks!

I'm manually mounting my flash drives to folders, then I'm removing their drive letter, so that I can have more than 26 drives plugged into the computer which is responcible for removing the necessary information from them. I don't know how you made diskpart operate from the original command prompt, if I use either system exec.vi in labview, or the command prompt, and type in disk prompt, a new window opens. Lastly, if I did open up diskpart in the original command prompt window, I need to figure out how to enter in a command to a command prompt, receive the output from the command prompt, and then enter in another command to the original command prompt. For instance, I need to be able to run the the following two commands:
    DISKPART> select volume 3
    DISKPART> assign mount=C:\drive27
(note, DISKPART> is not part of the command, but rather, when you use diskpart, a new window opens and this is the marker for where to enter text)

  • Use Labview to control two Picomotor actuators successively through Model 8753 iPico driver

    Hello All,
I want to use Labview to control two Picomotor actuators(belong to channel A ,C) successively through Model 8753 iPico driver.Since the example VI's
(Application.vi) from Newport's website just control one actuator at one time, so I copied the example code, thus there are two repetitive sections (see the attachment) in
the while loop structure. The test result was that two Picomotor actuators moved to respective target position circularly. And I found the test was correct when two Picomotor actuators belonged to different address. Can anyone tell why ,what should I do? Any assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated.

  • Using LabView and Modbus to Communicate with AKD Servo Drive

I’m working on a project to control a Kollmorgen AKD servo application using Modbus directly from LabVIEW.  I’m new to both LabVIEW and servo drives so forgive me if this seems simple.  I have established communications to the drive through Modbus and have been successful at some rudimentary control of the servo.  I know the drive only supports "Write Multiple Registers” and “Read Holding Registers” functions and there are scaling factors that need to be applied.  What I need is some help with taking the Modbus information supplied by Kollmorgen for each command and formatting it for communication to the servo and vice versa.  I need to understand how to take the supplied 8, 16, 32, and 64 bit information for commands, scale it, and format it into the two or four registers required for the drive to read the parameters.  In turn, I also need to understand how to take the same information and read it and scale it from the drive.  I’ve attached a spreadsheet with the particular commands I’m interested in and a sample VI that seems to work for speed control but to be honest, I'm not sure how/why.

OK, I've got the ability to read values from the AKD drive pretty well sorted out.  I'm now having trouble with the ability to write.  I want to use Labview to program Motion Tasks in the AKD drive.  To do this I need to perform three commands: MT.NUM (specify the motion number), MT.P (specify the angular position), and MT.SET to set the parameters for the task.  MT.P requires sending a 64 bit signed float or a 32 bit signed float (requiring four or two registers respectively).  I used ModPoll to see what values the drive held in the MT.P registers after entering the desired angular position using the AKD Workbench software.  For example: using Workbench I entered 234.567 for the angular position and read 208 and -32506 from registers 2060 & 2061 (the 32 bit registers for MT.P).  After scouring the forum I put together the attached VI to try to write to the same registers but I can not seem to get the translation of the input (angular position) to the register values correct (entering 234.567 does not produce 208 and -32506 in registers 2060 & 2061).  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Using HP 548xxa oscilloscope LabView driver to generate csv files

I have downloaded the HP 548xxa Oscilloscope driver. I'm not sure how to use the driver so that I can capture waveforms and generate a CSV or fext file of the waveform data

To understand instrument drivers, you should start by reading chapter 16 of the LabVIEW Measurments Manual. This is a shipping document that you can access from Help>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf. Your specific driver comes with a VI called hp548xxa Getting Started. This is a high level example that demonstrates how the subVIs in the driver can be used. You should look at this first and get this working. The actual subVI that gets waveform data is hp548xxa Data Read Waveform. This returns a single channel's data as a 1D array and x scale information (timing) as scalars. You can wire this data to Write to Spreadsheet File or create a waveform data type for each channel acquired and use Export Waveforms to Spreadsheet File. The attached example demonstr
ates this method. Hope it helps.
