Ftp Adapter put to VMS

I'm using the FtpAdapter to send ascii files to a VMS machine from an Oracle BPEL process. The files are written to the remote VMS machine, but they contain no line terminators.
Can anyone help? Is there some configuration I need to setup for VMS?
btw. If I ftp the files to an intermediate UNIX machine then manually ftp to the VMS machine (all in ascii mode), the files are ok.

We used binary mode to send files to VMS host. Our files has hex values of 0d0a(ascii 10 13 or CRLF) as line terminators. Also, there is no support for VMS exclusively and by default we have our ftp adapter set to work as for unix systems.
Try transfering file to vms and without opening the file can you transter and open the file locally? Check if it has line terminators.

FTP adapter: put operation on root folder is failing

Hi All,
I am trying to put files on SFTP server through FTP adapter.
If i select PhysicalDirectory as something like '/output' - put operation is working.
But if i use PhysicalDirectory as '/' - put operation is not working. I am getting error saying "/" is invalid directory. Can you please help me? Thanks!
I can put the files over the "/" using sftp client, so looks like i have required permissions.

Check whether the ftp user is defined with '/' folder or different. I think that particular user's home folder is defined as /output.

FTP Adapter setting filename at runtime not working

Hi,
I am facing an issue SOA 11.1.1.5 with FTP Adapter setting the filename at runtime. I have a process that reads a file from local server and puts it over to a remote FTP Server.
I want to use the same filename that is picked up locally and placed on the ftp location. Below is the snippet of FTP Invoke and the filename is read from a variable which is set before the invoke

If I use *<property name="FileNamingConvention" value="%yyMMddHHmmssSS%_%SEQ%.txt"/>* inside the jca file it works but I want to use the filename at runtime and be the same name as it's picked up.
Any idea what I am doing wrong.

FTP adapter ESB

Ok im trying to use an FTP adapter to grab a file from my unix server and bring to my local computer. I setup the correct connection to my unix server in the oc4j file i simply put an ftp adapter out on my workspace and i define that first adapter as the GET sound correct so far? Then while doing the put side of this operation i specified another FTP adapter (i want to bring it back to my local machine for testing) Does this sound correct or would i want a file adapter? In the end im going to want from server to server. <-------- in this case would i want ftp to ftp? Or should i be ok with ftp to ftp at all times.
Then while making the put adapter why does it ask for the file naming convention to PUT lol i want to put the same file name that i pick up obviously i mean can you change the name before it PUT's?

the ftp adapter put needs a filename to write/ftp the file.

you could the headervariables of the ftp get, to get the filesnames of the just picked up files and transform these to the ftp put

How to reply from a ESB scenario with FTP adapter

Hello all,
Is it possible to create a reply message when a FTP Put adapter is failing?
The background scenario is following:
We have an ESB routing service, that is called from a BPEL process, and invokes a FTP adapter (put). Hence, the adapter is a one-way adapter. However, when for some reason the files are not delivered to the ftp server, the adapter fails, and no fault or reply messages are created to send back to the BPEL process. As a consequence, the BPEL process continuous successfully while it should raise a failure.
So, how can we alter the scenario, so that failures in the ftp adapters are propagated to the BPEL process? For instance, by creating a reply message in the ESB service?
Any help is appreciated.

When the FTP adapter fails in ESB, is that specific instance in the ESB console then marked as faulted?
If so you might be able to look on the JMS error topic ( error hospital ) and report this back to BPEL?

Outbound FTP adapter directory dynamic path

Hi,
I tried creating FTP adapter with logical directory names.
When I create inbound FTP adapter (get activity) and provide logical directory path, it creates activation agent and on deployment it works fine. However when I try to create FTP adapter for outbound FTP adapter (put activity) and provide logical directory path, it could not create activation agent for the same….When I add activation agent manually, I am able to compile the service locally on J Developer, but could not deploy the service into SOA Instance.
Please update me, if anybody has made outbound FTP adapter directory dynamic path.

Dipal's note is correct for setting the output directroy dynamically, but I just want to clarify the steps you are taking.
You say that you create the activation agent manually for the put FTP adatper. This is not required, the activation agent is used to poll locations to invoke a process. The put activity is invoked from the BPEL process and not required.
If you are using logical directorys you partner link should look like this in the bpel.xml

The nasty thing about BPEL is that if you edit this manually and you make chnages BPEL will over write this. To avoid this create a property in the partner link. Right-Click the partner link select property tab, enter the logical directory name, e.g. OutboundDir and provide a value.

JCA Binding error with FTP Adapter on put operation

I am facing a problem with put operation with ftp adapter. my soa service will get file from the 1st ftp server (Unix) as attachment and is putting the file on another ftp serve(Unix)r. the put operation is failing with the below error:-

this is a SFTP server and the corressponding property is set to true on the configuration. I had also recreated the jndi again & also increased the max connections to 700, but still facing the same issue. Also i am able to ftp the files to this location through filezilla. Ftp adapter against VMS

We are using the FTP 'get' adapter against a VMS source. We do not wish to delete the file, thus are forced into specifying a File Name Substring that holds the file date/time because VMS does not support 'mdtm' which is used by the 'File System' and 'Directory Listing' methods to obtain the file modification date.
The file name format has an encoded date - something like h31 might mean 31st April, thus is of no use unless the adapter code could be modified.
Can the Directory Listing command be changed from mdtm to DIR for the VMS system?

We used binary mode to send files to VMS host. Our files has hex values of 0d0a(ascii 10 13 or CRLF) as line terminators. Also, there is no support for VMS exclusively and by default we have our ftp adapter set to work as for unix systems.
Try transfering file to vms and without opening the file can you transter and open the file locally? Check if it has line terminators.

Error Occured while Invoking FTP adapter

Hi all, i am trying a simple FTP, a one way BPEL process and an invoke activity with FTP(partnerlink) put operation. I just assigned the inputelement to the opaque element of the partnerlink input variable.
When i try to deploy the process i see the fallowing error in faults. The jndi is configured correctly and tested

One other thing is: How can i change the filename that the FTP Adapter of oia give to the files that he sends?In the current version of the FTP adapter, the naming convention of the file is as follows
<ftp adapter name><instance number>-<time stamp>
With the next patchset for 9iAS InterConnect 9.0.2, which is expect to be released within the next week or so,
we'll provide aditional functionality for the FTP adapter. That will include features that allow users to specify custom
file names and naming conventions.

FTP Adapter on OSB - how to specify logical directory path

I am using the ftp adapter on osb 11g (Oracle Service Bus Version: [Oracle Service Bus Server Side Dependencies 11.1 Thu Aug 19 02:10:08 PDT 2010 ] Oracle Weblogic Server Version: [WebLogic Server 10.3.4.0 Fri Dec 17 20:47:33 PST 2010 1384255 ])
I defined the ftp adapter using jdev and imported the jca artifacts into osb.
I created a business service using jca adapter to put the file to the ftp server.
The problem is the write directory on the ftp server is different for each environment - DEV, QA, PROD.
I used a physical directory specification when defining the adapter in JDEV because it wasn't clear from the help how i would override a logical directory during deployment to osb (it is clear if deploying to soa suite).
Is there a way to override this dynamically override this directory at runtime. Or even better a way to override during deployment time?

You do it either way....
Import the SBConfig jar into the sbconsole and change the value in the JCA file

10.1.3.4 - ESB FTP adapter not processing the files in the input directory

I created a process that reads from a logical inputDir. I migrated the ESB service to another box and created the same adapter connection etc. however nothing really happens in this new environment. In the opmn.log i see the following statements and no other info.

The last message "Connection Created" keeps repeating, but no processing occurs. I tried increasing all the loggers to finest. but still nothing happens.
any idea how to troubleshoot this ? the only difference in the environment is that the new environment has 10.1.3.4 MLR2 and the first one is just plain 10.1.3.4

Make sure that you modified the oc4j-ra.xml file in the FtpAdapter directory and have put the correct hostname and username and password. The directory structure looks like this //some-directory/oc4j_soa/application-deployments/default/FtpAdapter/oc4j-ra.xml.

FTP adapter for Oracle Service Bus - retrieve file by dynamic file name.

I am newbie in OSB. I try to use FTP transport in Workshop, it must fill in "Prefix" and "Suffix" for destination file name.
But for us, the file name is sent by external systems.
The workflow is:
1. External system call our proxy services.
2. Proxy service get file name from SOAP message.
3. Proxy Service get the file from FTP server.
4. The file send to Business services.
Any suggestions to implement about workflows?

Let me first put here what I understand about the flow:
External Sytem -->(filename)--> OSB HTTP PS --> (1) --> OSB FTP BS --> Read file based on filename
|--> (2) --> send file ontent to another system or return to the original system
If that is the flow, then I beileve ther is no straight forward way to implement it in OSB.
OSB FTP BS will only write a file to FTP Location.
If you create a JCA FTP Adapter for reading the file, then you can use it only to create a Proxy Service, and that proxy will not pick up the file when called from another service but only when a file is put on the source FTP location.
So, to implement the solution you will need to use Java Callout to a class which has code written to accept the file name as input, read the file from an FTP location and return the file content.
This is my understanding of how it is, may be there is another way to implement this or in fact may be the latest version of OSB 11.1.1.4 or 11.1.1.5 JCA adapter does support read operation within a flow instead of just at the start of the flow.

Dynamic file name creation using FTP adapter wired from a mediator

Hi All,
My Requirement is as follows....
Mediator is wired to Three FTP adapters to create three files.
File names are dynamic.
In the mediator those three routings, mappings and assignment for the directory and file name are being created.
But out of 3 files, 2 files are being created with the names mentioned during the FTP adapter configuration and the last one is being created
with the dynamic value.
Any help in this regard is highly thankful.

Dynamically generate terget directory in receiver FTP adapter

Hi guys,
I'm trying to set up a scenario where the file will be placed into a terget directiry based on values from the incoming message. I can't use variable substitution as my target message does not contain the needed value, so I'm trying to set up a dynamic configuration in an UDF. Unfortunately, this is not working.. Any ideas, what could be wrong? The receiver FTP adapter always just takes values from it's configuration. It doesn't help when I try to change it in mapping.
This is the java map code in the UDF:
