  • Upgradation from bps to bpc7

    hi,
Pls share link/doc, for upgrading sem6.0(bps) to bpc7 version? what is major steps in upgradation?
is there any way to migrate from plng folder (bps) to bpc applications?
    thanks,.

Not sure what your expectations are when you say upgrade since it is not possible to systematically upgrade from BPS to BPC.  Rather BPC is a new instalalation and implementation project, albeit one that can often be accomplished faster than BPS projects.  Both BPC and BPS being applications used for planning, there is some natural similariity in the capabilities of the two applications.  For example:
    BPS cubes --> BPC applications
BPS master data --> BPC dimensions and properties
BPS key figures --> BPC signdata
BPS variables, planning levels & packages --> BPC current view or script logic scoping (*XDIM_MEMBERSET)
BPS planning layouts --> BPC input schedules
BPS functions and formulas --> BPC script logic and business rules and excel functions
BPS data slices --> BPC work status
BW data loads - BPC data manager
    BEx reports --> BPC reports
    BW security --> BPC security

What data objects are affecte ddue to upgrade to BW 3.5
How to extractors (R/3 and BW) react to this upgrade

    Hy
One question: which is your actual release? If you upgrade fro BW 3.X to BW 3.5, if you follow all the steps included in the Upgrade List, you should not have any issue.
One thing: get the correct Front-end patch level in order to use BW 3.5. Release 6.20 with patch 13 is Ok.
Extractor: clean RSA7 (load the data) before the upgrade.
I had only one isse with the runtimeobject. During the prepare from Basis Side, we had a list of objects with inactive Run-time objects. I activated them and everything then was fine.
Regarding your question: During the upgrade all BW objects has to be activated but this task is required before the upgrade.
I have upgraded from BW 2.1 to BW 3.1 and
now BW 3.0B to BW 3.5.3 (much better than the previous one). In the testing i had some probelms with custom abap application. There some changes from aba 6.20 to 6.40 and also wiht WEB functionality but follow the dox
"How to enable WEB functionality after an upgrade"
Authorization: If you are already BW 3.X you will miss authorization for the new functionality (BPS, Broadcasting,..). But if you are in BW 2.1 you will miss authorization also for the existing object (like cube and so on....).

  • How to check if BIA has effect on a BPS function

    Dear Experts,
As I know BIA can also improve DB read time (data selection) when performing a BPS function. Currently we are using a BIA test installation to see if it will help us. We have some BPS function with long data selection times.
I know created BIA indexes on all involved real time cubes. By just executing the concerned BPS functions I can see no effect. I now want to check if the BPS functions do access the BIA at all. For queries this is quite easy to check with RSRT.
    So my question is:
Is there any tool available to check wether BIA is used by a BPS function or not? Some kind of RSRT for BPS.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ulrich Meier

    Hi Jens,
Thanks. I tried this. Strange result is that I get no data in that trace when running a BPS function. I do get data when running that trace during execution of a query which runs on the same InfoCubes as the planning function.
In the meantime I found table RSDDSTATBIAUSE which gets updated each time a InfoProvider is accessed if it has a BIA Index. Here my InfoProviders get a +1 in field BIA_USED when accessing them with the BPS function.
Furthermore I came across OSS-Note 990000 and installed the latest version of report ZBPPOBPS70 (I already knew that from BW 3.5). Here I found that field 'BW:Used Aggregate' is not populated, although within the coding of ZBPPOBPS70 there is indication that it should either show the used aggregate or BIA Index. The data is read from table RSDDSTATDM field AGGREGATE. There I found entries in AGGREGATE for 'normal' query calls but none for BPS calls.
With alll that in mind I'm more and more confused...

    Ulrich

How can I run a BW Function from EXCEL-IN-PLACE (BPS)using VBA??? Please give any example.
I would like to run my function module ZMY from EXCEL-IN-PLACE using VBA and get a result.

if you are using excel in place in the web application environment I doubt you can, you've never really had any macro functionalty there.
If you are in the gui environemnt (Planning folders) it will depend on how you want to invoke the module...

  • BW SEM-BPS API functions from a Web Dynpro project in Netweaver

    Hi,
Rather than using the standard Web Interface Builder in BW SEM-BPS (3.1B), we have to use SAP Netweaver to create a Web Dynpro project which accesses all the API_SEMBPS functions, such as GETDATA, SETDATA, FUNCTION_EXECUTE etc. Has anyone done this before? If so, do you have any examples, hints?
    Regards,
    Linda Lee

    Hello Linda,
let me add some more remarks on this topic from the BW-BPS development perspective:
I completely agree with Marc's statement.
Thechnically it is possible to build a planning application UI on top of the BW-BPS API functions and we have some customers that are live with such a solution. However, I would recommend this only in 2 cases
    1. You need to create a tightly integrated application with BPS being only one part of several other components (including transactional UI, e.g. running against a CRM system).
    2. You prefer a UI technology that is not provided by SAP (e.g. Java Swing based).
In all other cases, I would say that one should stick to the Web Interface created with Web interface Builder, mainly for cost reasons. If this tool does not fulfill all your needs there are several possibilities to enhance and extend the generated web interfaces by custom specific coding (see also several How-To guides in this area; e.g. "How to integrate a BEx Web Template into a BPS Web interface").
Another possibility is to loosly couple several web UIs with the help of the portal.
To my knowledge, it is not true that BSP web technology will be obsolete shortly.
In general, I would always prefer a tool supported, model driven approach compared to a heavy custom coding. This is also in sync with SAPs general strategy to a more pattern based approach to create UIs.

  • Duplicate Check Function in CRM when creating new BPs?

    Hi
    Three questions:
    1. does anyone know if there is some standard way in CRM (we are on CRM5.0) to enable a duplicate check to happen when a new business partner is created - one that will warn that a similar BP already exists when the user goes to save (or even better, when part way through creation)? I have already looked into using the data cleansing cases in CRM, which is ok for existing duplicate records, but doesn't help with stopping them being created in the first place.
    2. Is there a standard function/report available that will go through the database and identify any potential duplicate records? Or, does anyone know of some standard function calls/bapis etc that can be used by our developers to design something to do this for us?
    3. Failing the above two, are there any recommendations out there for 3rd party add-ins for address/duplicate checks?
Any insight would be most gratefully received!
    Regards
    Cara

    Hi Cara
SAP Business Address Services (BAS) is used for maintaining BP address data.
You can maintain any number of addresses for each business partner. One address per business partner is always flagged as being the standard address. You can define address usages by assigning the different addresses to the relevant business processes.
Postal data and information on different communication types, such as phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail, can be assigned to the address. If you have only the name and the (mobile) phone number of a business partner but you donu2019t know the address, you can create a BP with this address-independent communication data.
    Now Answer to your question
A postal validation for the postal code, the city and the street can be carried out by checking against the SAP Regional Structure. You can also use external software for postal validation, checks for duplicates, and error-tolerant searches. (For more information, please see SAP Note 176559.)
The following are examples of possible checks:
Postal codes, cities and streets, and combinations of all of them are checked for consistency. During the check, missing elements are added. For example, if you enter only the city, the postal code is added.
When you create and change a business partner, several phonetically similar, existing BPs are proposed for comparison purposes.
This prevents you from creating the same partner more than once.
Please let me know if this answered your questions.

  • How to generate data in BPS via function, not having any reference data?

    <b>Hi everybody,
My approach was to use FM 'API_SEMBPS_SETDATA' but the modified values neighter appear in the layout nor were saved to the infocube after launching 'API_SEMBPS_POST'.</b>
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/2e/260a8563b111d4b2ea0050dadfb23f/content.htm">Application Programming Interface (API)</a>
<b>What do I have to take into consideration?
Is there an other way to generate data in BPS?</b>
    Thanks in advance,
    Zeljko
Here my findings from debugging it:
In Step 1 FM reads data from planning level/layout correctly:
    Line     ROW     COL     VALUE     INPUT
    1     0001     0001     11     1
    2     0002     0001     0     1
    3     0003     0001     11     1
    4     0004     0001     11     1
    5     0005     0001     11     1
    6     0006     0001     0     1
(Input = 1 indicates that Input is allowed in this cell)
In Step 2 FM modifies the values in all lines to 1:
    Line     ROW     COL     VALUE     INPUT
    1     0001     0001     1     1
    2     0002     0001     1     1
    3     0003     0001     1     1
    4     0004     0001     1     1
    5     0005     0001     1     1
    6     0006     0001     1     1
Finally the modification is imported to FM 'API_SEMBPS_SETDATA'.

    Hi Vlad,
    I tried both alternatives:
    1. Write data in buffer only, not in database
    2. Write data in buffer and then writes from buffer to database
How can I check or see the data in the buffer? I tried the following: After executing the FM I opened the layout but the numbers are still the same.

  • Function types for Balance Sheet Planning missing in SEM-BPS 6.0

    Hi BPS experts,
After upgrading our BI-system from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 (level 10) as part of the upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0 (level 15), the BPS function types for balance sheet planning are not available in the planning environment (Transaction code BPS0).
According to the SAP Library the balance sheet planning functions in SEM-BPS comprises of 6 standard function types - one of them is "Depreciation":
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sem60/helpdata/en/0a/242537cedf2056e10000009b38f936/frameset.htm">help.sap.com -> Business Planning and Simulation (BW-BPS)</a>
Menu path: Business Planning Functions -> Functions for Balance Sheet Planning
In our existing SEM 4.0 we are using "Depreciation" and the functions based on this function type are of course short dumping when executed in our upgraded system (SEM 6.0) as the function type does not exist here.
Odd though - we do have the function type "Allocation" available in SEM 6.0, which should be delivered with SEM together with the Balance Sheet Planning function types (It is listed directly under "Business Planning Functions" in the SAP Library) .
I have tried to figure out whether we missed out on activating something during or after the system installation, but our basis consultant has not found anything in the installation guides related to this issue. Also I was wondering whether it could be a simple matter of activating some Business Content but without any luck.
Does anybody know why the Balance Sheet Function Types are not available in SEM-BPS 6.0?
    Kind regards,
    Lars

  • SEM BPS - Planning function to distribute total value over months

    Hello,
We use SEM BPS. In fact we use the integration of SEM BPS in the CRM opportunity component as opportunity planning.
Now we want to distribute the total value of certain key figures over the months. Either equal distribution or increasing distribution like 1% increase every month. What would be the best way to do that with a planning function?
We need to take into account that the number of months depends on the start and end date of the transaction (opportunity).
    Best regards,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
I would probably create a fox formula, do a foreach in selection loop over the months and distribute the values within that formula.
If you want to use a standard distribution function, you need to create the reference data somewhere before, which could be a bit difficult if the timeframe changes according to user selections.
    regards

  • How to access BPS variables in ABAP Exit Function

    Hi Experts,
I am using a Exit Function. My BPS variables contain multiple values. I want to trasfer then (may be directly read) to an internal table from where I can loop over then.
Could you please suggest me the code for this?
    Points will be awarded.
    Thanks in advance,
    Shiwesh

Did you try using the FMs API_SEMBPS_VARIABLE_GETDETAIL or Z_VARIABLE_GET_DETAIL for this?

  • How to access reference data in BPS Exit Function

    Hi Experts,
Can any please tell me how to access reference data in BPS Exit function. I am creating a copy function using ABAP Exit Function (Std copy and fox formula doesn't work for my requirement).
    Please suggest,
    Thanks in advance,
    Shiwesh

    Hi Deepti,
Thanks a lot for your reply. xth_data contains all the data based on package filteration. Let me explain you,
Say, I have a characteristic char and whose value is 'A', I want to change it to 'B' in my copy function, while keeping the original record with 'A' as well. So now I want my xth_data to contain two records, one with A and other with 'B'. I mean to say from value is 'A' and to value is 'B'. Now my package contains 'B' (the to value) as the allowed value, but not A because in the package I am setting this using a BPS variable. There are two types of variables, one is to variables other is from variable. There could be two scenarios,
    1. If I set from varibale in the package: if I do so, I will have the data in xth_data containing 'A' as char value. But in this case when I change it to 'B' and try to save both the records, package won't recognize the record with value 'B' and reject it.
    2. If I set to variable in the package: In this case the xth_data itself will not contain anything and I can not loop over xth_data because there is no record with 'B'. Only record available in the system is with 'A' values.
That is why I am thinking about having reference daya somewhere. I could loop over reference data and then pass it to xth_data. Package will contain to variable so it will allow all my modifications to get saved.
    Thanks and regards,
    Shiwesh

  • BPS Web Application - How to change function button property dynamically

We have created BPS web application for sales force, it contains 2 button.
    1. To send Workflow notification to Managers 'Request for Approval' - This would be used by sales person
    2. Button for Manager to approve the Plan 'Manager Approval' - This would be used by the Manager
We are using Territory Management in CRM to determine who is the manager and sales person.
We would like to use the same Web application to be used by both sales person as well as the manager. However depending on the user ID, we need to access the Territory Management table in BW to determine whether the person logging in is Manager / Sales person. If it is a Sales Person, we need to display 'Request for Approval' button and hide 'Manager Approval'  button. Similarly, if it is Manager,   'Manager Approval'  button to be displayed and 'Request for Approval' button to be hidden.
Would appreciate, if any one has faced similar requirement and how to do this.
    Thanks,
    VJ Sudharsan

Thanks Ananad and Srini for the suggestion. Actually I was working on the direction Anand Suggestion and make it working but I am not sure what I did is correct or not.
I have a bogus variable that checks for Manager / Sales person and brings back following code in the variable, if it is manager:
    '<style> #Req_Approval_s </style>'
and I added a new text component of type HTML and code
    <%=descr(VarvlSel2/value)%>
it works. Is this the correct way of doing the enhancement. Or is there a different place where we can add JavaScript.
Srini - I am using exit function, can you explain how we can I use BPS authorization to achieve this.
