Function returning pl/sql table of dynamic structure

Hi,
I use oracle11g/windows platform.
I have a requirement to be coded like this:
A function to return pl/sql table(cant use ref cursor) whose columns varies everytime it runs i.e.,
means
type pl_tab_type is object(col1 varchar2(1000), col2 varchar2(1000))
type pl_tab is table of pl_tab_type
func f return pl_tab
as
end;
note : pl_tab_type will vary for each run of function f
i.e.,for example, pl_tab_type can be changd to as follows:
type pl_tab_type is object(col1 varchar2(1000), col2 varchar2(1000),col3 varchar2(1000))
how to return pl/sql table of dynamic type from func, thanks for help in advance.

  • Create dynamic internal table with dynamic structure

    I have an internal table itab1 that have 12 amount fields from period1 thru period12.  I need to create a dynamic table with dynamic structure for the  period column if the total amount of each column  is > 0.  Any idea on how to do that? 
    For example if my itab1 has 20 rows and the sum of period1 = 35, sum of period2 = 0, sum of period3 = 5, sum of period4 =0, sum of period5 = 2 then I need to create a dynamic structure for the field column that have the total > 0, i.e  structure struct1 have field period1, period3 and period5 only.  Then I will need to load the data to itab2 from itab1.  Can someone help.
    Thanks.  I am on 4.7 and will upgrade to ERP 6.0 soon.

    Not sure what you mean. HTML DB allows to use a PL/SQL function returning a valid SQL query in report regions.
    Its just a PL/SQL function returning a string, outside of HTML DB, I guess you can use it wherever it makes sense.

  • Filling dynamic table with dynamic structure en fields!

    I have written the following code. Which is okay according the syntax check. But when I run the abap code it will give a syntax error. I want to insert data from database table into internal table. Because the tables that have to read are so many I decided to make a dynamic statement which can be used for all tables. Except it won't work as I wish.
    (LT_FIELDS) content is the dynamic fields which are defined earlier in the code and will change each loop.
    (TAB_X) content is the dynamic internal table which is defined earlier in the code and will change each loop.
    = structure of PA0002.
    (TAB_N) = T_PA0002.
    The code:
              SELECT (LT_FIELDS) FROM (TAB_X) INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF .
              ENDSELECT.
    Can someone give me some advice how to solve this issue?

    I Just want to insert data into internal table T_PA0002 from database table PA0002.
    The internal table and database table can change during the runtime of the program. But Its always filling the internal table with data from database table.
    I made it this way because the data I need to extract from data base tables can change depending on the procedures in table T9VS2.
    So I can't know the structure or the table which has to be selected each procedure. Or I have to make a big program with a lot of if or Case statements in it. I want to avoid that! Dynamic table is much quicker to write and understand when it works.
    It wil reduce a lot of code!  I hope someone can give me a hint to solve the problem.

  • Backup report function returns: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

    Hello All,
    I recently switched over from control file RMAN to recovery catalog. I logged into the 11g database control, executed a full backup and all went well. However, I just noticed that after I click on 'Backup Report' in database control (enterprise manager) I get the following error message: " java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist"
    I was able to view backup reports prior to switching over to recover catalog. What am I missing or what is missing, sort to speak?

    Thanks for the reply Werner. I did try it as 'SYS' but no luck. Strange...This was a new enterprise manager - DB control and the backup reprt function was working prior to using the recover catalog. Anthing in the recovery catalog database that may be missing?

    these pl/sql contains all HTML and java code insideJava or JavaScript. They are not the same. I wouldn't expect to see Java inside html, whereas JavaScript would be intermixed. On the other hand you might have a java stored proc (Oracle 9/10) which is generating HTML.

    I doubt it just has html and JavaScript/Java. So what you have is a mess that mixes several things that should have been seperate in the first place.

  • On Submit process not firing -report (PL/SQL function returning SQL query)

    Can anyone suggest possible causes / solutions for the following problem?
    I have a report region that uses a PL/SQL function returning SQL query. The report allows the user to update multiple fields / rows and then click a button to submit the page which should run the On-Submit process to update the database. However the process does not run and I get a 'HTTP404 page cannot be found' error; and when I navigate back using the Back button I cannot then navigate to any other page in my application without getting the same error. The button was created by a wizard selecting the options to submit the page and redirect to a (same) page. The button does not actually have a redirect in its definition but the wizard created a branch to the same page which should work and the button has the text 'submit as SUBMIT' next to it so it appears to be set up correctly.
    I have recreated this page several times in my application and I cannot get the On-Submit process to run. However I have created a cut down version of the same page in the sample application on apex.oracle.com at http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=4550:1:179951678764332 and this works perfectly so I am at a loss to understand why it does not work in my application. I cannot post any part of the application itself but if anybody would like to check out page 30 of the sample application (Customer Update Test tab) updating the surnames only, using credentials ja, demo, demo this is pretty much what I have got in my application.
    Any ideas would be much appreciated?

    Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have now identified that the problem goes away when I remove the second table from my report query. The original report query retrieved data from two tables and the process was updating only one of the tables. I thought I had approached the task logically i.e. first get the report to display the records from the two tables, then get the process to update the first table and finally to modify the process further to update the second table.
    Can anyone point me to an example of multiple row updates on multiple tables using a PL/SQL function returning an SQL query?

    Not that familiar with the OCI (Oracle Call Interface), but I think this call will be problematic - the OCI deals with SQL data types and not with PL/SQL structures.
    The OCI has since Oracle 8i sported an object call interface (see OCI Runtime Environment for Objects for details).
    This allows you to use the CREATE TYPE command to create advance user data types - and these are supported by the SQL engine, PL/SQL engine and external languages via the OCI.
    So you need to have a look at the Perl-DBI documentation to see how it supports Oracle object types and consider using these. As for internal PL/SQL data structures. These are not supported by the SQL engine and I would expect limited or no support in the OCI for these. Anyway, using SQL data types makes a lot more sense ito flexibility and transparency across languages and environments.

    The htmldb_collections API (apec_collections in 2.2) is a very useful method for rendering reports and one I have used extensivly in the past.
    Once created and populated you can reference your collection as if it were a SQL table i.e.

    from htmldb_collections
    where collection_name = 'MY_COLLECTION';
    You can absolutly base an Apex Report region on collections. Just treat them as another table that you can select from, join to others etc.
    In order to utilise this you must do the following:
    1) Create your collection:
    note that collections only persist for the duration of your session and you can only see the data you inserted into the collection. Also I would create this collection as the Database user who owns the Apex Workspace
    htmldb_collection.create_or_truncate_collection ('MY_COLLECTION');
    2) Populate your collection:
    In your case I would set a loop construct that parses through your pl/sql table and assign all values as described below. I assumed that my_plsql_tab has 3 columns called Val1, Val2, Val3
    FOR x IN 1..my_plsql_tab.count
    LOOP
    htmldb_collection.add_member (p_collection_name => 'MY_COLLECTION',
    p_c001 => my_plsql_tab(x).val1,
    p_c002 => my_plsql_tab(x).val2,
    p_c003 => my_plsql_tab(x).val3

    Note that you can have upto 60 elements in your collection.
    3) Access your collection:
    Select c001, c002, c003
    from htmldb_collections
    where collection_name = 'MY_COLLECTION';
    This quesry can then form the source of your sql report region.

    We have ORACLE 7.3 as server and VB 6.0 as the client . We have a procedure that returns PL/SQL table as an out parameter.When the procedure returns a single dimensional PL/SQL table , the front end does not have any problem in getting the output. When the same package tries to return a multidemensioanl PL/SQL table to front end we get an error message in the front end saying that the provider does not support PL/SQL tables or records.The package creates the PL/SQL table as follows
    TYPE emp_inf is RECORD
    (empno varchar2(7),
    ename varchar2(50));
    TYPE emp_inf_table is table of emp_inf
    INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;
    The procedure works fine on the server side.Any ideas why we are getting that error message. We are using ADO in the front end. Any other way of doing the above.

    This tables is being populated using a cursor. But, this table may have some duplicate rows (for Auth_Code column)

    i.e. Out of above data A1 is duplicated and has maximum Change_Date = 15-FEB-09 08.00.02 AM.
    Hence my resultant PL-SQL Table should have below data

    I am having a pl/sql function which is returning a nested table.
    For this i have defined an object which is having 4 attributes- 1 number type, 3 varchar2 type -p1,p2,p3.

    Hi,
    How do I capture the SQL Server 200 user defined function that returns table? Is this supported in the current version of Oracle Migration Workbench? I am using the latest version - Release 9.2.0.1.0 with SQL SERVER 2000 plug-in.
    I was able to capture the SQL Server 2000 user defined function that returns string and smalldatetime but not the functions return table during the migrate data source stage.

    This is not currently supported. The next release of the Oracle Migration Workbench (due very soon), will do a better job of catching this mad reporting an error. We are looking into a suitable mapping and have created bug # 2355073 - TABLE DEFINITIONS NOT ACCEPTED FOR TABLE FUNCTIONS to track this issue.
    Once possible solution we are looking into is using the object type to emulate. Here is an example from the bug:
