FX5600-VTDR128 or FX5600 Ultra Nbox 256Mb

I'm trying to choose between these two but have a question...
As I understand it, the VTDR's GPU clock runs at 325 Mhz, and the 128Mb memory runs at 550 Mhz.
but the FX5600 Ultra's GPU clock runs at only 235 MHz core but has 256Mb of  memory running at 800 MHz .
Is this correct and if so, which gives the best performance, the faster clock or the larger faster memory????
The Nbox has a better games bundle, the VTDR a handy remote - but these wont influence my choice - just the performance.
Thanks
Nezza

Thanks for the reply PoRsChE, and yes I agree with you, but......
I'm not really a gamer, so ultimate perf' ain't as issue.
I mainly want either of the FX56's because:
1. They're not ATI's (have had BIG issues with compatability)
2. I mainly need the ViVo function of the card (hence I don't need the extra speed of the 5700)
3. I like the design of the MSI cards (they go with my illuminated case - yeah, I know, but what the heck!
4. They are at my price limit!
As I can afford either, it makes sense to go for the one with the better performance, just in case.
As I said, I'm not really a gamer, but I fancy the software package of the Nbox, but then the remote of the VTDR would be handy, so in that, I have no preference.
Big question, though is why is the clock speed of the Ultra so much lower than the non-ultra (or have i been miss-informed!)
Cheers

  • FX5600-VTDR128 /MSI Clock Failure!!

    Hi,
I need some help with my VGA Card.  I just purchased the FX5600-VTDR128 and when I try to use the MSI Clock feature I recieve a message that displays "Load nvgpio.dll fail" ! It shows my Core Clock(MHz) @ 2D (54) MHz and 3D (?) MHz/ Memory Clock @ (100) MHz.  This is not even close to the stock speeds from the MSI Site on this crad (• GPU Core Clock: 325MHz, Memory Clock: 550MHz) http://www.msicomputer.com/product/vga/vga_detail.asp?model=FX5600-VTDR128 . I even installed PowerStrip to view the cards current speeds and gives me a (275) MHz in 3D as default and (550) MHz for Memory.  I have installed the latest drive from NVidia as well as the latest MSI has to offer with no luck.  :angryfire:I have tried using driver cleaner and installing each driver again as well.

  • GeForce FX5600-VTDR128

    Hi,
I've been looking around for a new GFX card, I was looking for a 256MB card, but noticed the MSI GeForce FX5600-VTDR128 which came with a remote control. The remote sortta got my attention as I noticed it connects to the TV-Out socket (if there is a 256MB card I've missed could you please let me know, thanks!).
My question: Using the software and calbe that comes with the card (nice software bundle too!) can you use the remote on other (MSI and non-MSI) cards that have the TV-Out socket?
    Thanks for any help,
    Pete

    Hello:
sorry my english, I speak in spanish.
I brought this card a mounth ago, the remote controller is not a greatest thing in the world, this is very complete, it has a lot of functions, but the software blunde (included or feature) is to bad, is not fast. I think that I can use the remote controller for everything, but it is not (or I don´t know how do)
The card have a remote controller sensor with a wire. The conector of this wire is ONLY for this card (or another MSI, but not all MSI).
I hope help you, if you still have questions, write to me [email protected]
    Sebas.
    I have a question too,
Is posible to sintonize (tuning) the diferent channels with this card?

  • GForce4 FX5600 VTDR128

    Hi Guys,
i purchased the MSI Gforce4 fx5600 vtdr128 and Neo2-S mobo after they recieved excellent reviews Tom's Hardware Guide. i thought that MSI deserved my $$$. but i've only got one problem with the gfx card. One of things that really got me interested in it was that i could use the Media Center Deluxe 2 to view pix, watch tv, movies, etc. I couldn't believe that when i installed the software, that you needed WinXP. I checked out the FAQ here and it stated that the software is compatible with WinXp only. the OS i'm using is Win2K Pro. To my knowledge, this wasn't noted down in either Tom's Hardware Guide or on the packaging so i'm pretty pissed off at the moment cos i can't utilize that part of my gfx card. Can you guys out there confirm that only WinXP is compatible with Media Center 2 and do you guys have only ideas???? your help would be much appreciated..... ultimately if i have to get WinXp then i will but i think that this is false advertising not stipulating that Winxp is required to run mediacenter2
     ;(

    Hi cmrino
I had the same problem with my TI4200 and the same mainboard as the one your using, what OS are you using and do you know how to boot up windows in safe mode?
This is how I got over the problem.
I downloaded the latest MSI driver via live update after starting XP in safe mode and installed them it cured my problem.
I still don't understand why the mainboard should make a difference to the driver. BTW the blue screen was saying that it was a memory problem or video card but it was booting fine just windows XP had the problem.
If you need more help just ask.

  • FX5600 VTDR128 Lockups

I just bought an MSI FX5600 VTDR128 and It keeps locking up my PC since I Istalled it and especially after merely 5 minutes of 3d graphics (I tried Colin McRae Rally 3, 3D Mark 2003 etc). I'm currently using my older card since VTDR128 kept freezing my PC even in windows XP after a while. I'm suspecting that it has something to do with my AGP Port.
I have already check the irq settings and tried to solve this problem but in vain. Has Anyone any Idea ? ? ?

Here are my irq settings,I don't think it's the PSU since I've disabled almost every single device in my PC just to see if this card can work. I'm suspecting a motherboard - graphics card incompatibility cause I tried two other brand FX5600 cards in this system. I also built two systems with the exact same config but with different mobos (MSI K7N2L and EPOX 8RDA+) and the cards worked perfectly fine. I must say that I'm quite surprised with this incompatibility...Maybe if we could inform Gigabyte to look into it. Anyway, I'll try to give back my card and just try my luck with a Radeon 9600PRO...(It's a shame MSI is not manufacturing any cards using it)
Here are my irq's,you can see by yourself that everything should work fine...

  • FX5600 VTDR128 - Disabling dual monitors!

    Hi all
Can anyone help me! Need to disable dual monitor support on the above card. Its driving me nuts because it will not let me play medal of honour or half life while kazaa is running. Ive done a bit of reading and the most likely cause is opengl not liking the dual monitors (well im hoping it is!!). All works well until i start kazaalite and even if i close it i get the error "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem" on medal of honour and similar on HL.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    My System
    Win XP Pro
    XP2000
    Abit KG7 Lite
    512 ram
    MSI FX5600 VTDR128
    Many Thanks

    Not absolutely sure
I have tried the 44.03 drivers and it remains the same....however i am getting this problem more intermittently now. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt!
    fine at the minute
just read previously that if dual monitors was disabled (never  going to use this feature anyway!) then the problem disapears
    Thanks!

  • FX5600-VTDR128: How to change 8xAGP to 4xAGP

    How can I change 8xAGP to 4AGP? (FX5600-VTDR128)
    I don't find a setting in the Bios (875P Neo-FIS2R)
Display settings shows the different check boxes for 2xAGP; 4xAGP and 8xAGP. 8xAGP is checked but they are all grey out. No change is possible.
    Some ideas?
    Thanks

Are you referring to the check boxes showing AGP speed displayed in one of the MSI tabs in display properties?
If yes - those I think are there mostly for information.
If you wish to change AGP - try installing the Nvidia "coolbits" patch.  This way you will get an extra settings page "AGP Settings" in the "Geforce FX 5600" tab under Advanced.
You will be provided with a slider to change the AGP rate to AGP8, AGP4, or AGP Disabled.
Hope that works.  If you need coolbits, create a reg file with these contents:
--- begin copy below this line ---
    REGEDIT4
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareNVIDIA CorporationGlobalNVTweak]
    "Coolbits"=dword:ffffffff
    "NvCplEnableAGPSettingsPage"=dword:00000001
    "NvCplEnableAdditionalInfoPage"=dword:00000001
    "NvCplEnableClearViewPage"=dword:00000001
---- End copy above this line ----
Save the file as coolbits.reg then doubleclick and answer yes to enter it into the registry.  Wholla - whole lot o extra stuff to set.
    Hope this works for ya.

now im able to maintain the temp of my cpu, 2 red-hot HDD's by using the power options in control panel power down hdd's ... when not in use .. but im not able to do so for the graphics card .... and b'coz of which it always remains hot ..  its as hot as my cpu is at peak load .. thats around 49-51C ....
will this reduce the lifetime of my graphix card to under a yr ? else is there a way to auto-powerdown the graphix when not in use ..

Boy, that IS hot. Mine runs in the 50Celcius range and I live in Arizona (USA).
I don't know what you use yours for as mine is used as a home server and is mostly inactive. But if you can place it somewhere where you have adequate ventilation (all sides free from obstruction), that might help. Keep it far enough away from walls and out of cabinets unless you have some fans running to remove heat.
I'm in Tucson, AZ and mine runs about 45º all the time... even in the AZ summer.
I run SMC Fan Control (http://www.eidac.de/) when I'm doing a lenghty, intensive task that will increase temps. That way I can bump up speeds to keep it cool-ish.

  • FX5600 VTDR128

    Hi,
A few days ago I bought a GeForce FX 5600-VTDR128. While testing the card I
    encountered the following problem:
    - Playing a video clip with MSI Media Center Deluxe: The clip appears in the
small preview window and when I click on this window it appears full screen.
After about two minutes the software automaticaly returns to the small
preview window and I am not able to return to full screen. During the first
two minutes it is possible to switch between the preview window and full
    screen.
At the moment I use the following software releases:
    Windows XP release 1
MSI Media Center Deluxe II release 3 (the software itself indicates Product
    version 1.0.0.1)
Nvidia drivers: At the moment I use the drivers that came with the card. Ik
also tested the most recent drivers and they did not solve the problems.
    Can somebody help me plz?

    snorbitz,
I am having a similar issue with my FX5600-VTDR128.  My games continue to run, but the images appear to \"smear\" or \'pixelize\'.  It is difficult to explain.  I play Wolfenstein and Mechwarrior Mercenaries.  In Wolfenstein, the images drawn on screen look great, as long as there is no movement.  As soon as sometime moves, parts of the moving object are drawn in random places on the screen.  For example, a sliver of the arm might be drawn diagonally from the top right to the center of the screen.  These instances happen very quickly, and the 'misdraw' is almost like a strobe effect.  In Wolfenstein, when the game really gets going, it is nearly impossible to play.  Same with Mercenaries.
I have the latest DirectX, and I have the latest nVidia drivers.  My mobo is an ASUS A7M-266 and I run an Athlon 1.4 Ghz with 512 DDR.
This problem is quite frustrating, since I bought the new card mostly for gaming purposes.  If is doesn't get fixed, it'll go back to the seller.

  • FX5600-VTDR128 problems

I'm having problems with my new MSI GeForce FX5600-VTDR128. When playing games, the graphics locks up for approx 20 sec's and unlocks for about 3 sec's. this cycle can repeat continuously. Sometimes the game doesn't resume and I had to hit the reset button. I've upgraded to the Detonator 44.03 drivers. I also checked IRQs and the video card is using IRQ 19 which is not shared with anything else. I am using DX9. I moved the card to another machine and the same thing occurs in the other machine. I can't see the card being faulty as it works in all other instances. I have checked the bios settings and I can't see any problems. The system board is a K7N2-ILSR as indicated below. Can anyone help with this problem? Could there be a VGA BIOS bug, and if so, is there a BIOS fix for it? Help please

  • Problems with X-wing Alliance and FX5600-VTDR128

I recently switched video cards from a GeForce 2 to a FX5600-VTDR128.  After the change, I've found that the in-mission text in LucasArts' X-Wing Alliance game has become all garbled.  Has anyone else run into this, and if so, have you found a solution to it?  Thanks!

    Hi All.
I have the same problem here and there are other people complaining about it here in Brazil
    http://pub32.ezboard.com/fcimffrm8.showMessage?topicID=200.topic
(brazilian forum, please try to translate it using google language tools)
I bought this card together with a new P4 system and was happy to play XWA again with it. The game runs perfectly except for those unreadable in-game text messages. My english is not to good so I need the text to perfectly understand the mission objectives and hints.
Well, the game worked 100%  with my old P3 with a Geforce 2 MX for three years. It seems like the problem is known by "professional XWA Players"  but nobody has a fix or a workaround to this problem.
I tried all patches (v.2.01 and v.2.02) for XWA  and the following drivers from NVIDIA:
    Detonator 45.33
    Forceware 52.16
    Forceware 56.72
I hope someone from MSI or NVIDIA read this thread  to help verify where the problem resides, and why just FX 5200 and FX 5600 customers are affected.
In time...X-Wing Racer  and Unreal tournament 2004 Demo works great here!

hey guys, what would be the difference between the
    FX5600-VTDR128 and the
    FX5600 XT-VTDR128
ive heard that the XT is a slower version of the card but just how much slower? ive looked on google for a few reviews but nothing conclusive..

yeah i knew the gf4ti series is better than the fx5600 for the current set of games but anything that utilised dx9 will give the fx 5600s an edge. hence why people ive talked to int he p4 foums here with similar set ups to  mine except have fx cards get lower 3dmark01 scores than myself.
i just wanted to knwo the real differences between the xt and non xt versions. the msi pages dont have the specifications on the gpu and mem frequencies!

  • Msi FX5600 VTDR128 + 3D!Turbo Experience Temperature issue

I bought a MSI FX5600 VTDR128 board, to use on a Abit VP6 board  - 2x PIII 933@133 FSB, 512 MB SDRAM 133 CL3, PSU AOPEN 300 W - installed MSI/Nvidia drivers 44.03 and 3D!Turbo Experience, first the one that came with the drivers and utilities CD, this one reporting erroneous memory and GPU speed (100 MHz and 54 MHz respectively). After that, downloaded and installed latest version of 3D!Turbo Experience, claiming support for FX boards. This  new software reported correctly the core and memory speeds on 2D mode 270/550 MHz, but on 3D mode 270/550 MHz keeps reporting 270/550 MHZ. The temperature and fan values only appeared the first time I ran the program, never showing up in the subsequent runs. The values for Fan/Temp were: 48 ºC/2700 RPM (ambient temp +/- 27 ºC) after playing GTA Vice City for 30 min, with the game still running.  After playing GTA Vice City for 1 hour, one sistem notification box (not from the HTML/Flash frontend) appeared notifying for unusual temperature - 255 ºC   8o . On the previous version of 3D!Turbo Experience a similar box showed up with 127 ºC. In either situations the HTML frontend kept reporting absolutely normal values (48 ºC/2700 RPM). The board is warm to touch (+/- 40 ºC), both the heatsink and the PCB. I find this very strange and i'm not sure if the notification box temp. value is correct - are 127 º C the upper limit of the temp. range (127=(2^7)-1)  on the previous software version and 255 (255=(2^8)-1) on the latest software version ?
The board does not crash when the box appears and keeps running steady as a rock, altough after that i closed the game for protection.
Anyway, I am terribly scared, considering those temperature values may represent a terrible overheating situation. Please HELP!!! . Thanks for your consideration.

  • MSI FX5600-VTDR128 dual CRT quality?

Thinking of buying a MSI FX5600. Read a review on the MSI FX5600-VTDR128 at http://www.amdmb.com/article-display.php?ArticleID=241&PageID=5 and he states that there is a ghosting effect when using dual CRT monitors.
Can anyone confirm and how bad is it?

Q: I have a P4DP8-G2 motherboard. I upgraded my video card to a Geforce FX 128MB, but now the SCSI BIOS disappeared and I cannot boot up the system.
A: This is because the shadow ROM is not large enough to fit both the Geforce card and the SCSI controller. After the Geforce card is loaded, there is not enough shadow ROM left for the SCSI controller. You may want to try some video card that uses less shadow ROM. (HC)
i know its not your board but as they seem to have an issue with one board perhaps email them
