Generate XSQL from XSQL/XSL

Hi all,
is it possible to generate dynamically a temporary XSQL (many querys) with XSQL/XSL and ececute this immediately.
Thanks for any help !!
Achim

No, but you can simplify your problem by doing the following:
<!-- Base stylesheet base.xsl -->
<xsl:stylesheet ...>
<!-- All your templates go in here -->
<xsl:template ...>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>
<!-- Base with ISO-XXXX encoding -->
<xsl:stylesheet ...>
<!-- This imports the base -->
<xsl:import href="base.xsl"/>
<!-- And changes the output encoding to ISO-XXXX -->
<xsl:output encoding="ISO-XXXX"/>
</xsl:stylesheet>
Repeat to handle other encodings.
You still have multiple stylesheets,
but only one place to worry about
managing your templates.

    Just use HTML tags instead of xml tags in your stylesheet, and

    Thanks for your help but I really didn;t found what I'm lookin for in this page.
    This page explains how xslt transform xml in xhtml. I know this point, I want to know HOW could I make it from my application. I guess there are a transform class that could generate html from a xsl template, but I couldn't find the way to do it and couldn't find examples too.

  • Calling XSQL from java servlet

    I'm able to call XSQL, process the page, and display it. But, how do I set the stylesheet from within my java servlet.
    I tried params.put( "xml-stylesheet", "[path to sheet]" ), and then passing that to process(), but it just ignores it. I want to be able to set the stylesheet dynamicaly like when you call XSQL from the command line or from the XSQL servlet.
    XSQLRequest req = new XSQLRequest( xsql );
    Hashtable params = new Hashtable(2);
    params.put( "mths", "6");
    params.put( "run_id", "30");
    params.put( "grade", "A" );
    params.put( "xml-stylesheet", xsl ); <-- just seems to ignore this.
    ByteArrayOutputStream ostr = new ByteArrayOutputStream(2048);
    req.process( params, ostr, new PrintWriter(System.err) );

    Thanks for the help Steve (and thanks for a really nice book by the way.)
    To answer your first question, I have implemented a report caching servlet. In the application we're writing, reports are generated in HTML or PDF (using XSQL) on demand. However, the data really only changes once a day at most so I wanted to have a way to store the reports once they were generated. So this servlet basically gets the request for a report, checks to see if the report has already been generated and, if not, generates the report using XSQLRequest. Finally it returns the report to the user.
    One benefit to doing this is that it masks the generation process from the user (ie, they can just hit a link like http://somehost/path/to/report.pdf and they get a pdf report.) Of course the other benefit is that reports only need to be generated once, reducing server load.
    I will definitely try your suggestion and just redirect to the XSQL servlet. I guess I was thinking about it too hard, this is a simple solution which will probably address the problem with a minimum of fuss. ;o) Using XSQLRequest directly works, it's just that I want to be able to reference external images using relative paths... it's funny that relative references to XSL pages works though.
    Thanks again,
    Van

    how to Create an XML document from XSQL servlet which follows a particular DTD structure.Could anyone send me a sample code for this.

    You'll need to associate an XSLT transformation with your XSQL page that transforms the canonical result into your DTD-valid format.
    For example, given an XSQL page like:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="rss.xsl" ?>
    <xsql:query max-rows="3" connection="demo" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    select title,id,description,url,to_char(timestamp,'Mon DD') timestamp
    from site_entry
    order by id desc
    </xsql:query>and an "rss.xsl" stylesheet that looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes" doctype-system="rss-0.91.dtd"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:for-each select="ROWSET/ROW">
    <rss version="0.91">

    </xsl:for-each>
    </channel>
    </rss>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>You produce DTD-valid output against the rss-0.91.dtd DTD that looks like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    <!DOCTYPE rss SYSTEM "rss-0.91.dtd">

  • IE 6.0 shows XHTML output from XSQL pages as XML

    I'm trying to produce XHTML via XSQL pages with XSL stylesheets.
    NS 6.2 and Opera 6.0 shows the pages correctly with HTML formatting, but IE 6.0 show them as XML.
    In my XSL stylesheet I have:
    <xsl:output method="xml"
    indent="yes"
    encoding="UTF-8"
    omit-xml-declaration="yes"
    doctype-system="http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"
    doctype-public="-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" />
    (I've tried with and without omit-xml-declaration="yes")
    The produced HTML correnspondingly has:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" />
    <title>pnrtest</title>
    </head>
    If I create a similar static HTML file (with *.html extension) IE shows the HTML correctly, but when produced via an XSQL page (with .xsql extension) it is shown as XML instead.
    Any ideas ?
    -- Peter

    Sorry, I don't know where the target="new" above came from.
    Should be:
    The produced HTML correnspondingly has:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
    <title>
    pnrtest
    </title>
    </head>
    Anyway, the problem is still there.

  • Invoking XSQL from JSP

    Hi!
    I want to invoke XSQL page from a JSP script using <jsp:include> which is possible due to Oracle documentation. However when I run my very simple test script I get an error message saying:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Include /test.xsql failed: can only include a JSP or HTML page.
    JSP itself works fine, so does XSQL/XSL! Have I missed anything in configuration somewhere? What could possibly be wrong? Any help will be welcome!
    Thanks
    Piotr

    Hi,
    Well, the latest version pre-release of oc4j on OTN works fine. You can use Java XDK is 9.0.1.2.0.
    Actually, there are some basic setup for XSQL framework that needs to be done before you can get it going. You can find these in the XDK documentation and also in the OTN code samples I mentioned earlier.
    In any case, just check if you have the following.
    (oc4j_home is where your oc4j is installed for eg: d:\oc4j on windows)
    These are under oc4j_home\j2ee\home\lib directory
    1) oraclexsql.jar, the XSQL page processor
    2) xmlparserv2.jar, the Oracle XML Parser for Java v2
    3) xsu12.jar, the Oracle XML SQL utility
    4) classes12.jar, the Oracle JDBC driver
    2) XSQLConfig.xml
    Edit the xml file above and add entries to the datasource from which you fetch data.
    similar to below:
    <connectiondefs>
    <connection name="scott">
    <username>scott</username>
    <password>tiger</password>
    <dburl>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<localhost>:<port>:<SID></dburl>
    <driver>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver>
    <autocommit>true</autocommit>
    </connection>
    </connectiondefs>
    use correct values for localhost, port and sid.
    3) make sure you have the below entries in global-web-application.xml in config directory of oc4j
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>xsql</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>oracle.xml.xsql.XSQLServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>xsql</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/*.xsql</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    For example:
    Your jsp can be like below:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=WINDOWS-1252"%>
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE> Invoking XSQL page using jsp:include </TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <FORM NAME="Main" METHOD="post">
    <TABLE BORDER=0 WIDTH=800 align="center">
    <TR VALIGN=TOP>
    <TD WIDTH="24%" ALIGN=CENTER>
    <jsp:include page="getEmp.xsql" flush="true" />
    </TD>
    </TR>
    </TABLE>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    Corresponding xsql file would be:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="getEmp.xsl"?>
    <xsql:query xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql" connection="scott">
    SELECT empno, ename FROM emp ORDER BY ename
    </xsql:query>
    Corresponding xsl file would be:
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="html" indent="yes"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <TABLE>
    <TR>
    <TD>
    <FONT COLOR="#CC0000" SIZE="+1">
    <B>List of Emp names from table Emp</B>
    </FONT>
    </TD>
    </TR>
    </TABLE><BR></BR>
    <TABLE border="1">
    <xsl:for-each select="/ROWSET/ROW">
    <TR>
    <TD width="50%"><xsl:value-of select="EMPNO"/></TD>
    <TD width="50%"><xsl:value-of select="ENAME"/></TD>
    </TR>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </TABLE>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you.

  • Generate report from database using .xsl style sheet

    I am trying to view test result histories for specific uut serial numbers.
    We are logging all test data to the default access database template that was provided with Teststand.
    Is there a method of generating reports from the database that match the format of those generated at runtime?
    I was surprised to find that the default access database did not contain any gui or pre-made reports matching the xsl style sheets chosen in the report options dialog.
    My database skills are weak, I am able to browse the raw data and I see the relationships between some of the tables, but the prospect of recreating one of the xml report formats in access seems daunting. Am I missing something? what is the best way to print a uut report from test data stored in access?

    Hello msears,
    Thank you for posting on the NI Discussion Forums.  Unfortunately there are no tools available in TestStand for directly converting an Access database to a formatted .xsl report.  It is possible to have a step in a sequence that reads the information from the database, and create the .xsl report as if it had been generated at sequence run-time, by writing those values directly to Locals.ResultList.  Admittedly, this would require some knowledge of Microsoft Access, and the ability to write a program that will extract information from the database, in order to include it as a step in the sequence.
    Is there anything stopping you from creating a formatted .xsl report when the sequence is run (instead of trying to create it from previous data stored in an Access database)?

  • XSQL: how to invoke stored procedure from XSQL

    Any one has example on how to invoke stored procedure within XSQL with associated *.xsl? What the syntax looks like? Thanks.

    If you want to simply invoke a stored procedure, use:
    <xsql:dml>
    begin
    proc(args);
    end;
    </xsql:dml>
    If you want to return XML that your stored procedure "prints" to the OWA page buffer, then use:
    <xsql:include-owa>
    If you want to invoke a stored function that returns a REF CURSOR function, then use <xsql:ref-cursor-function>

    Hmm,
    Even more confusing - the same .xsql document works fine with WebToGo - so I guess this is a Tomcat problem, somehow... Just can't understand why xsql:include-xsql works and xsql:query doesn't.

    I have a problem retrieving XML-fragments from CLOB columns.

    inc.xsql works fine through XSQL command-line and Apache/Jserv, problem only happens with xsql:include-xsql reparse="yes" (e.g. test.xsql).
    xsql:include-xml works fine, but I cannot use this, bca. in my real business case I'm selecting more than one row from the database.
    I've checked and double-checked my jserv.properties several times, and believes it to be correct.
    The xsql:include-xsql reparse="yes" technique works fine in our Solaris9/Oracle-8.1.7/iAS-1.0.2.2 environment.
    Any suggestions ?
    -- Peter ([email protected])

    If I put the following line in jserv.properties:
    wrapper.env=LANG=en_US.ISO8859-1
    the problem with xsql:include-xsql reparse="yes" seems to go away.
    Really strange, since Oracle products in my experience normally only uses NLS_LANG, not LANG.
    Also, we're accessing several databases with different charactersets from the same ApacheJserv installation, so I don't understand why LANG (or NLS_LANG) should be set to a particular value.
    Can anybody explain ?

  • Generating reports from PL/SQL

    I'm new to the world of BI Publisher - so far I'm impressed with what I've seen. I've managed to create a report and an RTF template and generate some nice looking PDF's :)
    What I need to do now is to have a nightly job that produces PDF shipment reports using my template for all new shipments generated during the day and I'm having a little difficulty putting it all together.
    I've looked at the BI Publisher API's that allow me to generate an XSL from my RTF template and the using the FO engine merge the XSL and XML data to produce the PDF. Then using the delivery manager API's I can send these reports out via email.
    I'm a little unsure of how to get the XML source - I've played around with the DataEngine API to generate XML from a SQL query so I think that's where I should be heading.
    Does this all sounds right ? Ideally, I want to be able to do all of this from within a scheduled PL/SQL job every night but all the interaction with the BI server seems to be via Java.
    Is there an easy(ish) way to run all of this from within PL/SQL ?
    And should I be going about this by:
    1/ generate XML data using dataengine API
    2/ create an RTF template using word and the xml data generated above
    3/ use the RTF processor to generate an XSL-FO from my RTF template
    (1-3 will only need to be done once)
    4/ Then my nightly job will use the dataengine to generate new shipment XML data
    5/ use FO processor to generate PDF's from each
    6/ use delivery manager API's to email out
    All sounds very cumbersome and intense -is there no easier way ?! :) Also, I'm thinking i should be using the bursting engine to split one query containing all the new shipment data and generate/mail a PDF for each shipment ? Is that necessary if all going to the same email address ?
    Help/guidance/suggestions greatly appreciated !
    Many thanks,
    Brent

    repost .... Has anyone successfully called BIP web services from within the database using Java stored procedures ?
    Still struggling to work out how to generate my reports from PL/SQL ! :((
