Get Excel window title

Hi,
I am trying to get the handle of an Excel file using the attched code. This works fine when I have only opened excel application without any workbooks opened so the window title is "Microsoft Excel". When I open a file, the title changes to eg. "Book1 - Mocrosoft Excel" or "Book1.xlsx - Microsoft Excel" (depending on whether I have saved Book1 or not) and the code doesn't work if I input these names.
What I am doing wrong in here?

Why don't you use ActiveX? This following code gives you the name of the active workbook.

Ben,  I little micronugget for you.
WHAT! How did I do that with one P-Node.!
When you create the property node and right click to select a property- choose Browse... (right at the top) any properties that return references can be expanded until you get the property you are really interested in.  Expert TIP: choose Name Format.Long Names when you do this to make the code more readable.  The BD cost is minimal compared to having multiple P-nodes with short names.

  • Get the window title?

    I want to use the method AVWindowGetTitle(AVWindow window, ASText text) to get the window's title, but it even cannot be built successfully. When building the project, it always says "AVTArraySize(_cdecl *)(AVWindow, char *, AVTbufferSize)': too few arguments for call". But it's explictly, I called AVWindowGetTitle but not AVTArraySize... In our SDK's samples, we also call AVWindowGetTItle, why it cannot pass in my code?
    The purpose I get the title is Adobe sdk does recongnize pdf file name in Chinese, so I want to have a try to get the title of the window. If any other way we can get the Chinese name of the file, that would be better.
    Thanks a lot.
    Thanks
    Daniel

    You don't mention what version of the SDK you are using with what compiler on what OS platform.
    Acrobat 9 and X SDKs (which are the only ones supported at this time) work just fine with Chinese filenames.  What API calls are you using that do not?

    Hello,
    is there a way to get the window title of a windows application that is focused (not java application that I wrote)? Or is this possible only with JNI use?

  • How to read browser(window) title in jsp?

    Hi,
    I need to read/find window title in my jsp code. Is there any method/way using which I can find window title?
    I can read it in javascript using window.document.title but as we know that we can not use javascript inside jsp, I am not able to use this method.
    Any help will be appriciated.
    Rohit

    Is your decision based upon the title of the page you are generating or the title of the page you have just come from?
    In either case, basing logic off of a window title sounds like a potential for trouble to me.
    If you want to make a decision, then send a parameter for the web application to react to.
    You can't get the window.title of the previous page.
    You are generating the current page, so you should already KNOW what the title of that page is right? You just printed it!
    Potential alternatives which are roughly equivalent:
    request.getHeader("referer") gets the url of the page that sent you to this one
    request.getRequestURI gets the jsp being currently executed.
    request.getAttribute("javax.servlet.forward.request_uri") will get you the original uri that was requested (assuming the page has been forwarded)

  • [DWM] How to get window titles (w/xprop?)

    I'm trying to expand my "switch-to-tag"-script to include window titles, but have stumbled upon something I can't understand:

    The id you obtained from xprop is the WM_CLIENT_LEADER, also listed in the WM_HINTS as the group leader. So that appears to be something like a root window for Firefox, not necessarily the one you see (with the title you want).

  • How to Use AccessibleObjectFromWindow API in VBA to Get Excel Application Object from Excel Instance Window Handle

    I need to get the Excel.application object from a window handle using AccessibleObjectFromWindow. I can't seem to make the code work. First, I successfully search for the XLMAIN windows. Then, when I get a handle, I execute the AccessibleObjectFromWindow
    function. It seems to return a value of -2147467262 in all cases. Therefore, I believe that it is returning an error value. I can't figure out how to determine the meaning of this value.
    If it is an error value, I believe that one or more arguments are in error. My best guess at present is that the GUID argument is incorrect. I have tried two GUID values: {00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} and {90140000-0016-0409-0000-0000000FF1CE}.
    I have seen both used in conjunction with OBJID_NATIVEOM. Neither one seems to work. I really would prefer not to use the second one as it has an Excel major and minor version number. I would hate to have to change this code, if a new minor version appeared.
    The attached code has been commented to show which parts have been shown to work and which not. I'm at my wits end and really need help.

    I don't think you can return a reference to Excel's main window like that as you are attempting to do.
    Ref:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd317978(v=vs.85).aspx
    It's relatively straightforward to return any workbook's window in any given instance, and in turn it's parent Excel app. Try the following and adapt as required (and include error handling) -
    Option Explicit

    While hWinXL > 0
    i = i + 1
    Debug.Print "Instance_" & i; hWinXL
    If GetXLapp(hWinXL, xlApp) Then
    For Each wb In xlApp.Workbooks
    Debug.Print , wb.Name
    Next
    End If
    hWinXL = FindWindowEx(0, hWinXL, "XLMAIN", vbNullString)
    Wend
    End Sub
    'Function GetXLapp(hWinXL As Long, xlApp As Excel.Application) As Boolean

    Dim iid As GUID
    Call IIDFromString(StrPtr(IID_IDispatch), iid)

    End Function
    Note as written if an instance does not have any loaded workbooks a reference will not be returned (though a workbook can be added using DDE, but convoluted!)
    FWIW there are two other very different approaches to grab all running Excel instances though something along the lines of the above is simplest.

  • How to get specific message on Alert Window as Window Title.

    Hi all,
    I want to know if it is possible to get Personal Message on Alert Window, instead of "Microsoft Internet Explorer" in JSP.
    Like on alert window , instead of "Microsoft Internet Explorer", I want to show "My Project" as Window Title.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jitin

    If you don't want it to say "Microsoft Internet Explorer," you can use a different browser. :-)
    But, seriously...
    If you really want to customize the appearance of a dialog, you can make one with DHTML that looks like anything you want. You can make it look like a system dialog if you want, but you don't have to. (In fact, if you make it look like a Windows dialog, it will stick out like a sore thumb if someone is using another OS.)
    I had to create some of these for an online testing application I wrote, because they wanted the tests to be timed, and I discovered that, in Internet Explorer, you could stop the clock just by opening certain dialogs, so I had to suppress "right-clicking," remove the menu bars, and use custom dialogs to communicate with the user. Since then I've re-used these dialogs in a number of other projects. They're pretty handy.

  • How to set the WebDynpro application title (IE windows title)?

    Hello all,
    I would like to set the WebDynpro application title according to the current transaction ID. This title is the IE windows title that is shown on the upper left-corner of the IE browser.
    Rule: [Object Instance Information] u2013 [Application Title] u2013 [Browser Title]
    For example: Trans. <No.> - <My App> - Windows Internet Explorer
    I would like to set <No.> dynamically on run-time according to my current transaction number.
    I have this piece of code that gets a reference to the application info:
    data: lr_app_info TYPE REF TO if_wdr_rr_application.
    lr_app_info ?= wdr_task=>application->application_info.
    And there is lr_app_info->get_description() method to have the description of the application, but there is no set method.
    The application description can be hardcoded in:
    tx. SE80, opening the WebDynpro component, then accessing its WebDynpro application. In the properties tab, there is a description field. I need to append transaction ID to it.
    Do you know any way to implement this? This issue is for WebDynpro ABAP.
    Best regards and thanks in advance,
    Fouad.

    Hello Satra,
    Thanks for your reply. I already had a look into that thread, but my question is not related to the windows title of the WebDynpro  component.
    My question is related to the title of the Internet Explorer that we all see on the top left-corner. For WebDynpro , this is the WebDynpro  application title. How can we change it?
    I hope my question is clear now, and I wish someone can help me soon.
    With kind regards,
    Fouad.

  • Garbage Characters in CDE Window Title Bar

    I recently patched our Solaris 8 Sun workstations (a mixture of Blade 150, Ultra10, Blade 1500, and Blade 2000) with the recommended patch cluster from December 19th, 2005. At the same time, I updated the systems' Java to 1.4.2_10, and installed Update 5 to StarOffice7, which is still on the systems along with the newer StarOffice8.
    When initially installed before these recent patches, StarOffice8 behaved correctly. After updating the systems, when I open StarOffice8 in a CDE session, I get garbage characters in the title bar of the window. The letters and fonts in the application menus are normal. StarOffice8 windows under Gnome sessions are titled correctly.
    I've read some emails about issues with LC_CTYPE and setting it to en_US.ISO8859-15, using a wrapper script to start soffice. The current setting on my machines is en_US.ISO8859-1. That solution doesn't work consistently on different machines (or even on the same machine).
    In fact, even without attempting to solve the problem, there is inconsistent behavior. On one Ultra10 which I have as a testbed machine, StarOffice8 behaves correctly, whether I'm logged in as a normal user, or as root. On a Blade 1500, it behaves correctly when logged in as root, but not as a normal user. I've also patched StarOffice8 with Update1 which was released today, but it doesn't fix the problem.
    Anybody else having similar problems after recent patching? Or have any suggestions for a solution?

    More Info on Unsolved Problem:
    If I use Mozilla to open a document file, with soffice set as the helper application, the CDE window title displays properly. If I leave that instance of StarOffice open, and open new documents using the menus within StarOffice, subsequent CDE titles also display normally. Also with that original Mozilla-driven StarOffice application still open, if I use "soffice whatever.doc" on a command line, those CDE windows appear normal.
    Mozilla is set to use "en_US" as the language for webpages, with Western ISO-8859-1 as the default character coding. The Solaris 8 workstation's /etc/default/init file is configured as:
    TZ=US/Eastern
    CMASK=022
    LC_COLLATE=en_US.ISO8859-1
    LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1
    LC_MESSAGES=C
    LC_MONETARY=en_US.ISO8859-1
    LC_NUMERIC=en_US.ISO8859-1
    LC_TIME=en_US.ISO8859-1
    While the Mozilla "wrapper" is a workaround for now, I don't see it as a final solution.

  • Issue with worksheet.Select(true) after hosting Excel window in WPF application

    The issue is with Office 2013.
    We are hosting excel workbook window in WPF application using HwndHost class. In overridden BuildWindowCore method of HwndHost class, we are creating a MDICLIENT Window and setting this MDICLIENT window handle as parent for Excel
    main window handle and returning HandleRef object of MDICLIENT window handle from BuildWindowCore method.
    Once HwndHost control is loaded, we are selecting sheet of excel in the loaded event of HwndHost control. The code for selection of sheet is given below.
    dynamic workSheet =
    this.excelApplication.Workbooks[1].Worksheets[sheetName];
    this.excelApplication.Workbooks[1].Activate()
    workSheet.Activate();
    workSheet.Select(true);
    The first time execution of
    workSheet.Select(true)
    halt for few seconds and then it throws exception “System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComException”
    with message “The server threw an exception. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80010105 (RPC_E_SERVERFAULT))”.
    But it executes successfully without delay on subsequent calls. Sometimes the execution halt for minutes on different Systems.
    This absurd behaviour is seen only once in application instance life time and that too after excel window gets loaded in WPF application. If we execute
    workSheet.Select(true)
    before loading of window then it executes properly. Once
    workSheet.Select(true)
    executed for first time with exception, it executes successfully without delay on subsequent calls.

    No, I dont have any macro in the sheet and it is happpening with all workbooks. The problem is consistent with all workbooks and also it throws exception only for first time in the application. If I execute it again in same application instance, it works
    properly.
