Getting an automator script to execute at startup

Hello everyone,
How do I get an automator script/app/workflow to execute at startup? Other than by adding the app to the user startup items?
Thanks a million,
Cecile

I'd guess that there is an app out there that would run something at startup...
You probably want to look at this thread.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just put it in the startup list, but these may take care of it.

  • Dbora script not executing all startup processes

    Hi,
I am running Oracle10gR2 on RHEL4. I am having issues with my dbora script. I read quite a few of the posts about it and most people were having similar issues as me. However, I was still not able to get it to work properly. I am going to paste my dbora script and all the other things that I am suppose to do like edit the /etc/oratab file. The main problem I am having is that not all the process that need to be started are starting up. I've been messing around with the /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.2..rc.3...rc.4...etc files and trying different combinations and they all give me different results. However, the one thing that never starts up is the database. I can get the listener to work and sometimes http server also, but never the database. And another weird thing is that when I check the logs (/var/log/boot.log) it says that the opmn process, for example, has been started, but when I check the status it is down. Here is how things look now.
    The /etc/oratab file
    # This file is used by ORACLE utilities. It is created by root.sh
    # and updated by the Database Configuration Assistant when creating
    # a database.
    # A colon, ':', is used as the field terminator. A new line terminates
    # the entry. Lines beginning with a pound sign, '#', are comments.
    # Entries are of the form:
    # $ORACLE_SID:$ORACLE_HOME:<N|Y>:
    # The first and second fields are the system identifier and home
    # directory of the database respectively. The third filed indicates
    # to the dbstart utility that the database should , "Y", or should not,
    # "N", be brought up at system boot time.
    # Multiple entries with the same $ORACLE_SID are not allowed.

I would also appreciate if someone could tell me how these rc.2 execute and what order.
    Thank you all.

Ok, I have tried your combination as well as other ones for the runlevels and they all took an hour or more to get the server back up again. The current configurations bring up the server within a few minutes, however, the database nor opmn process is starting. I was wondering if you could still help me? Here is my current runlevel configuration and /var/log/boot.log file. Notice the dbora entries. Thanks!

  • How to get 'exit event' script to execute again when form file with saved data is re-opened?

I have created an Adobe Dynamic XML Form using LiveCycle Designer with many fields / subforms that are ‘visible’ or ‘hidden’ dependent upon the options selected from various Drop-Down Lists. The form has also been save-enabled. Users can successfully complete the form and save a copy with the data that has been input.
The problem I have is that when the saved file is re-opened the ‘hidden’ fields / subforms which were previously made visible by selection of the appropriate options from the Drop-down Lists are now NOT displayed. However if you make the same selections from each of the Drop-down Lists AGAIN the hidden fields / subforms are displayed and do contain the data that was entered.
The problem appears to be that the script which determines whether a field / subform is ‘hidden’ or ‘visible’ is an
    <event activity="exit" name="event__exit">
    which is followed by
    if (this.rawValue == "0")- (i.e. the value of the Drop-down List)
    sfCompanyDetails.presence = "visible";
    sfRecruitmentAgency.presence = "hidden";
    etc, etc
and, therefore, it is not executed again when the saved file is re-opened.
Can anyone please advise how to achieve this?

  • Running an Automator Script unpon wakeup

I use automator to mount my network drives upon startup and runs a treat. I am trying to find away to run this script automatically after the computer wakes up.
What also would be great would be if I could get an automator script to unmount the drives when the computer sleeps that way I can unmount the drives automatically.
    Any help would be great.

You could save the workflow as an application, then enable it as a Login Item.

  • Is there a way to launch an app and a set of actions on startup? (Like an automator-script for ipad)

    Hi all,
Is there a way to have the ipad execute a series of tasks at startup? (like an automator-script)
    Thank you!

    Hi all,
For all you who have been looking for a solution for the problem above, here it is :
    http://www.kioskproapp.com/
The Kiosk Pro app allows you to run any html-scrip locally stored on the ipad!
Which is great! Because not only does it allow for an infinite amount of possibilities next to the video-looping, it also keeps on working with one click after a reboot!
The learning curve of usage is quite simple for the problem above, since they provide extensive information on the website and have great customer service.
I am very very happy I found this app, and I really hope this post saves a lot of people the headaches I've suffered in the course of finding the solution.
    Enjoy!

  • Writing commands to get specific data channels in the output report via script or automated script generation..

In my project I have to make certain calculation and then get the data plotted in the given report template. I am using automated script for this. My script is doing all the calculations and then it not selecting and drag-dropping the selected channels on the report template. Its saving the blank report template.
I am struggling to get the data for specific channels plotted by using the script. I need the selected channels to be plotted on this report template and then get it saved.
Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi LaxG,
Brad is absolute right. It is possible to create your whole layout via script.
If you have loaded  the example report layout you can copy these lines to create a new line in your plot. This is the recommended object oriented way.
    call Report.Sheets("Blatt 1").Objects("2D-Axis1").Curves2D.Add(e2DShapeLine, "anyName")
    Report.Sheets("Blatt 1").Objects("2D-Axis1").Curves2D.Item("anyName").Shape.XChannel.Reference               = "[1]/Zeit"
    Report.Sheets("Blatt 1").Objects("2D-Axis1").Curves2D.Item("anyName").Shape.YChannel.Reference               = "[1]/Geschwindigkeit"
For performance reasons it's recommended to use the it like this.
    dim oLine
    set oLine = Report.Sheets("Blatt 1").Objects("2D-Axis1").Curves2D.Item("anyName").Shape
    oLine.XChannel.Reference               = "[1]/Zeit"
    oLine.YChannel.Reference               = "[1]/Geschwindigkeit"
Like Brad mentioned it is much easier, that you have a stored template of your report with all setings and customisations already done.
You open this layout file and have stored the names of your calculated channels. When you are doing this with a script they always have the same name and belong to the same group.
Now you can customize the references of the line items.
    Kind Regards,

  • How can I get a Powershell script which maps network drives to execute at logon to any workstation in my domain

I want to map network drives for each user when they logon to any workstation in the network.  I have created and tested the PS1 script which works fine where the drives attach and used persistent parameter.  I have updated the Windows 7 Professional
64-bit workstation to the latest PS 4.0 code.  I have created the GPO and believe everything is assigned properly.  I made changes to allow execution of local and remote signed scripts.  I have forced the changes on a workstation using GPUPDATE

  • Jquery slider is not consistently loads while running coded ui automation script

    Hello Guys,<o:p></o:p>
I am doing coded ui automation testing for mvc application. Now there are some features where we are loading Jquery slider from left towards right. Actually those slider loads properly
when users does it manually but when i ran it using coded ui script, so sometimes slider comes and go back within seconds .This means it is not loading properly but sometime its load fine.so due to that coded ui does not find respective control to click over.<o:p></o:p>
I have tried to wait with different option of playback , wait , delay but the behavior is still same.
That means my test fails to load proper slider window  most of the time.<o:p></o:p>
Can anyone suggests me some inclinations to solve this problem. <o:p></o:p>
    Thanks in advance.<o:p></o:p>

Actually i have tried to wait in all possible ways provided by coded ui . But issue happens only sometime during following scenario:
    1. I click on "x" button
    2. Then that slider gets loaded from right towards left. There is again other internal ajax call which brings up data to show on slider. For that i have used webwaitforcontrolready=3 to disable ajax or js engine.
    3. But sometimes problem occurs when automation scripts clicks on "x" button ,then slider comes and go back within fraction of seconds. I do not know whether it is due to network speed or any other issue. so due to that subsequent action on that slider are
not getting executed or gets failed.
could you please suggests me which wait should i use till that slider loads completely and then only move to next action?
i have tried using wait(), thread sleep(),waitforcontrolready(),waitforcontrolexits(),waitforcontrolenabled(),playback.settings.waitforreadylevel=allthreads.

  • Help with simple Automator script

I have a simple Automator script for updating a specified folder with files from another folder. It consists of only two actions:
    1. Get Folder Contents (from the folder I drop on the Automator executable).
    2. Copy Finder Items.
I left the option "replace existing files" unchecked because there's no point in replacing a bunch of files that already exist (we're talking about 4000-5000 files in the source folder).  I assumed that meant to ignore any existing files but, on the contrary, I found out that the script is copying duplicates of all the existing files -- making my target folder about 9000 files strong!
How do I get a command into the middle of this script to restrict the Copy Finder Items command to files that do not already exist in the target folder? (It would be even nicer if it could check for files that are older than the files being copied and actually replace (only) those as well.)
    Any ideas?

If you need the Terminal window to stay open, then you're looking at scripting Terminal. You can do this with Automator's run applescript action, or you can just use Script Editor (in Applications > AppleScript). Either way you will need to save the workflow/script as an application and drag it to your Login Items (in System Preferences > Accounts).
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">tell application "Terminal"
    activate
    set commands to "cd /Users/lenny/ventrilo/
    /Users/lenny/ventrilo/ventrilo_srv"
do script commands in front window
    end tell</pre>

  • Timed execution of Automator scripts?

I'm trying to create a simple little script in Automator that runs an application every 30 minutes or so. Is there a way to get an Automator action to automatically execute a set intervals of time? Thanks.

    Hi there,
    this is one way...
    http://www.mac-help.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273
Save the workflow as an iCal plugin then set it to run every 30 mins.
Or use something like CronniX, http://www.abstracture.de/projects-en/cronnix
Save the workflow as an App then use CronniX to run every 30 mins.

  • Problem in uploading attachment files through automation scripts using Oracle Application Testing Suite(OATS)

I am using OATS tool for writing automation scripts to test a web-based application . But I am facing problem when the requirement is to upload any file from the system to that web application .
Actually the behavior of the script or I guess of OATS is inconsistent as the attachment file is getting upload sometime and
fails to do so at the other time .
I have observed a strange case also ,i.e whenever i am executing the scripts while sharing my system screen on webex meeting
then the attachment upload results in failure . What can be the proper solution for doing file upload using automation script ??

Can you please check whether the sync has been taken care before performing the upload operation. If the sync is taken care then the upload should work always

  • Using a SecureString password in an automated script?

    Hello all,
I've been having issues getting a secure string to work with an automated script.
Basically, a piece of software we use can accept commands via powershell/command shell but requires a password for the commands to be run.
I've spent a fair amount of time researching the ConvertFrom and ConvertTo methods and tried without success. (When trying to use the ConvertFrom/To methods the software gives back incorrect password errors).
    Can anyone please assist?

    Hi Jonathan,
you can simply use the $SecurePassword variable from Basty's example (if you need a secure string) and pass this as Password. Please note though, this will only work if the account writing the credentials to file is also the same account used to read it
    from file.
If you need to encode it for another account (like local system), you can use the
Encrypt-Credential function-script (The example on how to retrieve a clear-text password in memory will also work with Basty's $cred object).
    On a final note:
Encrypted or not, try to avoid writing passwords down if you can somehow avoid it. If possible, assign permissions to the account running the task, if the service you are accessing supports windows authentication and privileges.
    Cheers,
    Fred

  • I need an automator script to play a folder of movies

I have a folder of quicktime movies. I have a Mac Mini with Lion. I have a TV. I need an automator script to grab the list of movie files from the folder and play them full-screen, one-by-one and then loop through the process to continue playing them, unattended, all day.
I cannot get the proper steps in automator to accomplish this (seems to me it should be easy) job.
    Any ideas?

    Dave,
Thanks for the tip. I didn't know that Quick Look would display a folder of files one-by-one. Once I set the first file to full screen, the rest also played full screen one after the other. Now I need a way to automatically launch Quick Look, set full screen and loop. This site http://automator.us/leopard/downloads/index.html has an automator action that uses Quick View, but on my Lion machine it just displays the first movie and only the first frame of the movie. It stops at that point.

Every time I open a site I get the "unresponsive script" warning. Then randomly throughout my web surfing. It's a constant occurrence.
