Getting CRLF from SQL Server to SSRS

In the query the drives the report in question, I build several fields dynamically that are passed to the report and displayed.
I would like to be able to include something that will be interpreted by SSRS as a CRLF.
I've tried using the SQL Server character sequence to insert the CR (CHAR(13)) but when it gets over to SSRS, the report does not recognize the embedded characters.
I also know that within SSRS, if you are in an expression, you can use VBCRLF but because my values are built in SQL Server, I don't know how to "poke" that value into my field in a way that will be correctly interpreted.
I've gone so far as to embed a "normal" character sequence in the data and use the SSRS REPLACE function, but I can't seem to get it to work.

In the tablix, you will have place holders which represent your data. They will be name per your field names, and look like [myFieldName]. Drag select over this and right click, choosing placeholder properties from the menu. Alternatively you can double
click the placeholder and get the same placeholder properties window.
In this grab, the placeholder [text] is highlighted.

Before I dive into this, I want to make sure it's possible
and relatively painless :)
My Flex web app is hosted on one server (call it server01)
which is the web server, and I have a SQL Server 2000 database on
another server (server05), which is not a web server. In the Flex
app, I'd like to populate a ComboBox using data from a table in SQL
Server. Is this possible even though they are on different servers
and server05 doesn't has web access? Thanks.

I'm not using anything as of yet to accomplish this. It seems
that using web services is the recommended method. Could you
provide any information on setting up a web service, or resources?

There is always a way in computer to get what you need (at least it is good as Rule of thumb). I am not sure we will find it here (in a voluntary supporting forum).
Now we (or better the architect of their system) should think of the way :-)
Of course doing so in the forum, while we do know the system and only got a glimpse on what is needed, is not the best idea. I will point some issues which can be related to a solution. Those are not a solotions as it is but something we can use for a solution

Migrating from Sql server get SQL Error: ORA-00936: missing expression

I'm migrating from Sql Server to oracle 10g and I'm getting a

when the following create table statement is executed. It appears 10g does not like the CREATE DEFAULT xxxx as xxx syntax. Any ideas??

not sure SQL Server accepts the syntax you provided either. Even more I have checked MSDN(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173565.aspx) and they recommend:
Avoid using CREATE DEFAULT in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use it. Instead, use default definitions created using the DEFAULT keyword of ALTER TABLE or CREATE TABLE. CREATE DEFAULT will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server.
In Oracle you should do the same either use DEFAULT in CREATE TABLE statement or in ALTER TABLE, have a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/adfns_constraints.htm#sthref626 for more details.
The proper Oracle syntax for your DDL should be something like:

Error while exporting data from sql server to excel

Hi,
I am trying to export data from sql server to excel.
The query that I used is s follows
INSERT INTO OPENROWSET( 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database=C:\Folder1\abc.xls','select * from [Sheet1$A1:IV65000]')
select
column1,column2.... from Table1
I get the following error message while doing so..
String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.
One of the column's holds data more than 225 characters.
What is the way to correct this, i want the whole data of the colum in the excel sheet.

I haven't had great luck with the INSERT INTO OPENROWSET method. Can you try one of the many samples from one of these 3 links?

Error while reversing data from SQL Server to ODI

I was reversing data from SQL Server Java 1.6_022 in ODI Java 1.5, I was getting error Version Mismatch and I updated ODI Java version to 1.6_022.
And now, I am getting the below error while reversing the data from SQL Server database.
0 : 08001 : java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
Looking for the assistance on the same.

If everything is fine the reversing should be fine. I would say check again if the Technology of the Model and the also the dataserver is created under the right Technology in topology too.
also if this doesn't help , Please tell us the steps you have carried so far . Also can you try selective reverse is it showing the tables.

Getting List of SQL server and on selection of server get List of Databases using SMO

I need to have functionality where I need to populate List of available SQL servers from local network, and when i select SQL server from list, get the list of Databases from that Server.
For this i referenced SQL SMO Dll's and placed two drop down, one lists Server names, and one lists Database names.
Dlls refered are:
Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlClrProvider.dll
Microsoft.SqlServer.SqlEnum.dll
Above DLL's i have copied from SQL server SQL server 2008 installed location

Where do i get "Shared Management Objects .msi".
only installing this msi will install SMO?.
Can i ship this msi with my application installer?
do i need to install x86 on x86 system and x64 version of msi in x64 system, or x86 can work fine with both, my application
is x86 only.

Related to migration of db from sql server to oracle 11 g

We're trying to migrate a Sql server managment studio database to Oracle 11g using SQL Developer 4.0. We can successfully connect to both Sql server managment studion 8.0 and Oracle 11g using the tool, as well as click through the Migration Wizard and start the migration.
This opens the Database Migration dialog box, which indicates the capture process starts normally. we get the following error:
ora :01440 : can not insert null into migrlog (id column) ,
\and then after some time , i get an error that migration failed
i am not getting the reason,I thing it may be due to reason that , I have table's column in my source db with more than 30 character.
If i am migrating one by one table . then it is not giving any error, and identifier name is getting shrink in 30 character. but i am not getting the view , stored procedure , indexes , and others
then what is the solution for that, somebody pls suggest any help?????????????

OWB 9.2 Sourcing from SQL Server 8.0

I looked at the PDF for sourcing from EXCEL and have a couple of questions with regards to sourcing from SQL server 8.0:
1. Do you need SQL ODBC driver installed to source from
SQL Databases?
2. Where does one get this driver?
3. How does one install this driver?

You can get the document you are looking for on http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/pdf/Cases/case3.pdf .
You should definitely have an ODBC driver for the SQL Server. Oracle provides the Oracle part wit the database ("generic connectivity"). Not sure about SQL server - I believe MSFT provides them free, if not you should purchase one.

Migration from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11g

I have a quick question, Anyone who have experienced to migration procedures,function from SQL Server 2008 to 11g R2. Is it possible? I migrated tables and views through Oracle heterogenious servinces but I am not sure about the fucntions and procedures.

Automated conversions are possible. After these conversions the system will pretty much run. However, and it can be a pretty big HOWEVER, performance could well take a hit - which the uninitiated or SQL Server acolytes will seek to blame on Oracle not being very good. This is not actually the case.
You could be in for a major review and rewrite. Besides the syntax differences in the procedural languages, there is a huge - like really huge - difference in transaction control, isolation, and read consistency. Basically, keep in mind that Oracle reads do not block writes, writes do not block reads, and there are no dirty reads. Writes only block other writes. Thus, no coding 'tricks' are needed to get around these blockers. Oracle has global temporary tables that are generally used to help out those converting from SQL Server. In actuality, then are mostly not needed as you can almost always do your work in one SQL statement.
Read the concepts guide from cover to cover, then do it again, then start looking at what you need to do to convert your procedural code.

Changes required to switch from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005?

I'm converting a legacy app from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. The app is written in VB6 and utilizes CR 8 OCX. When I invoke a report from VB I'm getting Error# 20599 Cannot open SQL server. I redefined the ODBC DSN specifying Windows Authentication, and the SQL Server instance supports mixed mode.
Searching for the error, I found an article that suggests I need p2sodbc8.zip, but I can't find a link to it in the Downloads area.
Would greatly appreciate any help at all - including a link to p2sodbc8.zip if that's the likely resolution.

Migrating from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g

I am a newbie to Oracle 10g and haven't really worked with Oracle since 8i. I have been tasked to migrate all of our databases and tables to Oracle 10g. I need a little help getting started or pointed in the right direction on how to copy all that data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g. I know that Oracle has an Import/Export Utility, but don't know if it can do what I need. Can some one help point me in the direction I need?

You need to download both the Oracle Migration Workbench core tool and the SQL Server 2000 plugin (SQLserver2k.jar). You copy the plugin into the plugin directory, after you unzip the Oracle Migration workbench main.
The tool comes with release notes and a user guide, that explains the necessary setup and migration process.

You need an OLE DB provider for Oracle. There is one that ships with Windows, but it only supports very old versions of Oracle. Oracle has an OLE DB provider that you can use. I don't know if it's part of Oracle Client or how it is bundled.
You should not use MSDASQL or any DSN.
