Getting Cross platform applications to work

I want to be able to open desktop publishing files written in OpenOffice from a Windows and Linux platform. There is no problem opening the files from the Windows platform. I use:
String mscommandString = "cmd /Q /C " + fileName;
      try
        Runtime.getRuntime().exec(mscommandString);
}and the file opens without any problems (even Word and Excel files open ok)
But if I run it from a Linux platform I get an IO exception.
I have changed all the file delimeters in the path to Linux format like this: /mnt/public/Myfile.sxwwheras for the windows platform the path would be P:\Myfile.sxwI'm stuck for an answer and would be thankful for help.

  • Java Web Console - How do I get the "Storage" application to work

I kind of forgot this console even existed until getting into our Sun Cluster class. It seems that part of the cluster package installation it makes the console fire up and the Systems | Sun Cluster Managert works awesome. • How can I get a Windows application to work?

I need to use an application which is only available in Windows or OS 9, - I have tried to get this computer to open OS 9, but it refuses.
Is there some way to get the Windows version of the app. to open and work in OS 10.4.9?
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Try CrossOver by CodeWeavers. While the normal Windows on Mac solutions (Boot Camp and Parallels Desktop) require a full version of Windows, this will allow some Windows programs to run.
Download the trial and if it works, buy it. (There is a discount ofr education.)

  • I can't get an installed application to work on a ...

I've apparently installed divx player on my 6220 classic. It shows under the list of install applications in my application manager, but I've no idea where to find it or how to get it to work. There's nothing in my application folder itself.
Is there anything I'm not checking? I install PC Suite and accepted all possible updates I was asked for, before using the suite to install the downloaded divx player file.
    Appreciate any help.

have tried putting the style sheet in the same folder as the class file, tried
putting it in the Java Source folder, tried it all over the place really...In your web application, it should go in the same directory where you would put an HTML file or a JSP file. All those places you tried are places that the web server keeps hidden from clients. You should be able to request the CSS file from your browser in exactly the same way you would request an HTML or JSP file.

  • Deployment of cross platform application

I am pretty new to Java and have programmed an applet (or tray) application in netbeans using it's tools. The program uses three separate images for different states of it's tray icon. As a web developer I have run into a very uncomfortable dilemna: I don't know how to property distribute the application!
The biggest problem is the images. At first I thought they could just be next to my applications jar file and later I could get a fancier install working (like maybe using nullsoft on windows). The problem is that I don't know how to tell my java to look just in the folder of my programs jar (since they could extract the files anywhere). I ignorantly thought that if you didn't include a full path when referencing an image, then the relative path would start from where the program jar is located. It appears that the relative path is actually from wherever the user is executing that jar from. Any help?
Ideally I would just put the images in a jar, but that has proven difficult. I created just a jar with the images, imported it into my project, but am clueless how to reference it. I wish netbeans would let you add images to a jar file, or to your project, and there was some easy way to reference it. Then this whole problem would be solved for me.
    What do you guys do?

Just right click on the folder where you want to add the images and select new/folder.
Call the folder images and put all your images in it.
You dont need to put them in a folder. You can put them in the source folder alongside your java files. This allows you to just put in the image name in your code.
If you had a project called MyProject with folders src and images you could refer to any image from a java file in your src folder as /images/ImageName.gif.
I think you can also use add jar in the project properties dialog but the first method allows you to cut and paste easier.
When you look in the File view you will see the actual layout of the files and this might help you with the path string.

  • I have recently upgraded to mountain lion and I can not get the calendar application to work. I con appears on the side put on calendars. Any suggestions

I have recently upgrades to Mountain Lion and I can not get the calendar utility to come alive. Icon appears in the tast bar but the application does not launch or appear to be any where else. Any suggestion?

Did you look in the Applications folder for Calendar? If it is there, remove the item that is in the Dock and replace it by dragging the Calendar application to the Dock.
If it is not there, did you have iCal located somewhere other than the Applications folder when you upgraded?

  • Making cross-platform AVIs readable by Windows?

Okay, before describing the whole problem, we're using Compressor 2.0.1 Academic, not 2.3 as we have G5 Macs here and didn't feel the need to do the crossgrade upgrade, and I don't necessarily need a Compressor based solution, just any solution that works. (if not Compressor, then hopefully some freeware app)
Basically, I need to get cross-platform AVIs that are readable by Windows, of finished projects, that can then be converted into WMV format with Windows Media Encoder. I'm aware of solutions like Flip4Mac and Cleaner, but I don't want to limit myself to WMV7 support, and Flip4Mac doesn't give advanced enough options in terms of setting things like bitrate.
I've tried a variety of tools, including Compressor, MPEG Streamclip, ffMpegX, and I just can't get cross-platform readable AVIs, either in uncompressed format, or using Apple Motion-JPEG at 100% quality.
The main problem with Compressor, at least 2.0.1 (if they've fixed it in 2.3 please let me know), is that once an AVI gets above a certain file size, it seems to be 4GB, but this isn't a FAT32 file system limitation, then the index header just gets corrupt.
That is, let's say I want to compress HDV to WMV. I have to:
    a) Compress from HDV to a H.264 100% quality (or Apple Motion-JPEG 100%) RESIZED to 960x540. (half size) This is because Compressor can't resize files going to AVI
    b) then compress that file to an uncompressed AVI
    c) drag that AVI into VirtualDub on a PC, which will read it, but has to reindex the file, and then output another uncompressed copy
This does work, but it's cumbersome as ****, and there has to be a better solution.
The guys at Squared5 (MPEGStreamclip) said 1.8 fixed the problem with AVI's not being cross-platform readable, but I tried that version, and I'm getting errors, so I've sent them error logs to try and troubleshoot it. The error log in question is here:
    http://www.goodcowfilms.com/web/mpegstreamclip18errorlog.rtf
ffMpegX will kinda work, if I use the Microsoft MPEG4v2 codec, but only up to a certain filesize as well.
DivX Pro won't take HDV files, so that isn't helpful.
Any suggestions here? I just need to make AVIs, in a lossless (or near close, like 100% JPEG) format that are cross-platform compatible.
    Thanks in advance.
    work: 4x2.5GHz G5, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM/home: 1.83GHz Core Duo, 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How new is the version you speak of? I tried the demo for their highest end WMV suite about a month ago, and not only did it not allow you to set custom bitrates, but when converting video it left a green tinge on it that would come and go. (HDV to WMV)
I also apparently found out the exact feature or support I need... I need a Mac program that can write an AVI 2.0 complaint file. AVI 1.0 doesn't support files over 4GB, whereas AVI 2.0 has an unlimited file size limit.
Squared5, the makers of MPEGStreamclip, are going to look into adding it into their next version.

  • How do I get latest Mail application

How do I get latest Mail application to work on OS 10.6.8?

Somehow you have the incorrect version of Mail installed on the computer. So, here's what I suggest your do:
First, you want to put the copy of Mail that's in your Applications folder into the Trash. Locate your Snow Leopard DVD and insert it into your optical drive. Use the following procedure to install
How Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
A few of the basic OS X installed applications can be restored from the Optional Installs installer located in the Optional installs folder on your Installer DVD.
Reinstall Mail from the Snow Leopard DVD then download and reinstall the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 updater. This should fix you right up.

  • Cross platform video capture

Does JMF support video capture on OS X ?
More generally, I would like to write a cross platform application in Java that can capture video from a USB camera. I would really appreciate it if some one could at least point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,

  • Can I use Messages in OSX to text with a person on an Android platform? My iPhone works cross platform but I don't get the text in Messages on my desktop with OSX 10.8.2

Does "Messages" in OSX 10.8.2 work cross platform? My daughter has an android phone and I can text with her OK in iOS. However, her texts don't show up on OSX whereas texts from my son, who has an iPhone, work in iOS and OSX.

    HI,
The answer is yes and no.
As Barney-15E link says you can get the Messages app to SMS to AIM Buddies.  Or rather telephone Numbers as AIM Buddies.
    There are limits.
The computer has to be set as if in the United States (System Preferences > Language and Text > Region)
The phone is question has to be on a carrier that supports AIM SMS forwarding which only applies to some US based carriers.
The reason the SMS Messages arriving on the iPhone do not sync is that they are not iMessages  (the "No" Part).
I use Messages with the Buddy List Showing.
As a test I have added a made up number as a Buddy and also created a Address Card for it.
So Mousing over the "Buddy" reveal the "Screen Name" which is the phone Number
You have to include the Leading +1 country code as well.

  • How can I get C3PO's working in the Cross Platform Client

    Hi!
I need to know if it is possible to use C3PO's in the GroupWise 7 Cross
    Platform Client?
If not, is there some method documented to achieve the same functionality?
    Thanks,
    Chris

It's even mentioned in the API reference, section "LrView text properties":
    height_in_lines : (Read-Only)
Calculates the minimum height using this as the number of lines
that should fit. If height_in_lines is set to -1, and width or
width_in_digits or width_in_chars is specified, text wraps.

  • Cross platform CS on PC to CS3 on Mac does not work like video says

Your video on cross platform workflow states that you can import older Premier CS files on a PC into CS3 on a Mac. I tried this and get the message, "this project was saved in a aversion prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac. Please refer to the User Guide for import options." I guess I have to assume then that the video, www.adobe.com/go/vid0236, is wrong about this? Can someone please explain how I can salvage the work I did 3 years ago on Premiere Pro 1 on a PC when I am now exclusively working on the Mac in CS3?
    Thank you.

    Ty,
This has come up a few times and the solution is to find a PC CS3 user, who will Open the Project and then Save it in CS3-CS4 for you. I does mean that you'll have to befriend a PC-person, but who knows, maybe you can reciprocate later on. In each previous instance, this workflow, PC to PC to Mac worked perfectly. Note: the same holds for Encore Projects, and there is some PC to PC incompatibilities between very early versions and later versions. I had to Open and Save an Enocre 1.0 Project in CS2, so a CS4 (only) user could then Open in CS4. This stuff happens, and the skip in Mac porting can play a role in it. If I had CS3 on my PC's, I'd do it for you, but CS2 will not hlep you.
I believe that P 6.5 was the last previous version ported for the Mac, until CS3.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • TS3212 I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

Is that an error 2 message?
If so, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
