Getting the last insert id

Hi there,
I'm trying to get the id of the last inserted record. Normally would use $last_id = mysql_insert_id() after the insert statemant but I can't work out how to get this value when I use a ADDT insert transaction.
Any help much appreciated.

Getting the last inserted ID

I found out about a mySQL function that will get the last inserted autoincrement ID and I want to use it in my page. The prepared statement i am using look like this.

How can i implement this in my code so i will be able to use the integer value later on to insert more records in another table.

If you are using Java1.4 the approach would be to use :
public boolean execute(String sql,
int autoGeneratedKeys)
throws SQLException
where the autoGeneratedKeys flag is set to Statement.RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS
After the insert you can call the method :
public ResultSet getGeneratedKeys()
throws SQLException
Which will return a ResultSet containing the mySQL auto-generated keys.

Note that PreparedStatement inherits these methods from Statement

I'm not sure about 8i features.
I assume here that you don't have 'Date-Time' stamp columns on the table which is the easiest way to determine the last inserted row in the table.
If not try the following :-
select address, piece, SQL_TEXT
from V$SQLTEXT
where upper(sql_text) like '%INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME%'
Substiute the TABLE_NAME with the name of the actual table.

Getting the last inserted row

I want to get the ID for the last inserted row in another view (not the ones I have in my page), to pass it to a web service. How can I get it?
This returns the first ID in the table: ${bindings.myIterator.RequestId}
This one doesn’t work either: ${bindings.myIterator.currentRow.RequestId}
It shows the following exception
1. JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.RuntimeException, msg=javax.servlet.jsp.el.ELException: Unable to find a value for "RequestId" in object of class "model.Travel_ViewRowImpl" using operator "."

while this is close to the correct syntax it is not complete
${bindings.myIterator.currentRow.RequestId}
this would attempt to call set/get RequestId on the Row class, which doesn't have this property. It has a property getAttribute() but this doesn't allow you to pass an argumentbecause of EL limitations.
Work around: Create an attribute binding for the "RequestId" attribute and call it with
#{bindings.RequestId.inputValue}
ADF always ensures that the currentRow's RequestId is the one obtained from the Attribute binding

Need to query the database to get the last sequence number

Hi all
I am trying to get the last sequence number of the last row inserted into my Oracle database. Please could someone give me the SQL which would allow me to do this - using Oracle SQL Explorer I have confirmed that there is a sequence on the table which is called: XYZ_SEQ and the code for this is:
CREATE SEQUENCE "MY_USER_NAME"."XYZ_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 21 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE ;
My Java application is inserting a row into my table and to insert a new row I need to have the last sequence inserted +1 so the new row can be added.

Welcome to the forum!
If you are using a sequence just do (example):
INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME
   (COL1,
    COL2)
VALUES
   (SEQUENCE_NAME.NEXTVAL,
    OTHER_VALUE);to obtain (and use) the next number in the sequence when you are inserting.
If you have a sequence to use for a specific table, you should use it when your insert new data (no matter your are doing that: java application, procedure, etc). Doing this you avoid some problems when you have the sequence 'out of date' about the associated data.

How can I get the last / newest record of a table?

Hi,
I am developing an ecard app that has a create greeting page, a preview page with edit and send buttons and an edit page.
I got he insert working, and on the preview page I created a master record page (displays all records), and delete all unecessary designs. Doing it this way also gives me the 'edit' button, so people are able to edit their page.
How do I get only the last record displayed though? At the moment it loops through all records and displays them in sets of 10. I found the variable that holds the totla count of records ('$totalRows_rs7417_content1'), but how do I (re-)write the script so it ONLY diplays the last record?
I need to get the ID of this record as I am writing this into the PARAMs of the object and embed tags of my message .swf (this picks up the ID and based on that sucks the greetings text out of the database via another php script.
Also, from this page, how can I send an email to the sender (ie creator of the message) as well as the recipient? Both email addresses are in the databse so should be part of the erecord returned.

OK, So how do I recreate what I got in a non-ADDT list?
well, when you´re just about to display one certain record, the term "list" is somewhat inappropriate anyway.
What you´d simply need to do IMHO, is using DW´s native functions to create the basic "SELECT * FROM table_name ORDEr BY ID DESC" query, add "LIMIT 1" manually, and display the desired "dynamic text" placeholders in 1 table cell -- don´t think there were any need for all the fancy stuff
(sorting, filtering etc) provided by ADDT´s list, as it´s just 1 record.
It also occurred to me just now that finding the last record that has been added *may-* notbe enough if the site gets used a lot by our executives (I am thinking of a situation where 2 or three peolpe create greetings at the same time and press submit and then getting each others messges rather than their own).
in this case you might want to additionally store the respective executive´s "kt_login_id" session variable -- because it´s this unique "identifier" which should be used to show the last inserted record of the person who actually inserted it, means adding a "WHERE submitter_id" equals the session variable kt_login_id - clause to the query.
When creating a non-ADDT list that´s at some point based on detecting a user session, you´ll BTW need to insert at line 1
I can't seemt o insert it on the page as it is looking for a insert, update or delete bahaviour on the page which of course I don't have
please search these forums for several posts I made which explain my "use dummy table" approach that´s made for cases when you actually don´t have anything to insert/update/delete, but need "something" for ADDT´s send email behaviours.

Retrive a record before the last inserted record

Hi,
I use simple select statement to retrive records where cola = 'Yes':
select * from tbl1
where cola = 'Yes';
The result gives me about 10 records with different date.
From the above result, I want to get the record right before the last inserted record according to the date field; which means I can not use MAX function (all I want just one record).
If I write a function to return a date and passes it back to the SELECT statement, I'll get a date for each record, which I don't want.
I know there's a way to do that in PL/SQL.
Plese help me.

Sequence get the last value (or store the .NEXTVAL anywhere)

Hi there,
I created some tables and one table references the other (foreign key).
Now I want to add some test data and insert rows to both tables.
My problem is:
The "insert into command" for table a uses a sequence value to create the primary key. Now I need the assigned primary key in my second insert command to assign the right value to the foreign key.
Is there a way to get the last assigned value from a sequence? Or can I store the key to some sort of variable and use this in both statements?

NEXTVAL return next available value in the sequence.
If you want last returned value you need to use
CURRVAL instead.

If it hadn't found the row, I expect you would have got an Exception

the file that you want get is in the server?
you can use java.io.File.lastModified() which in J2SE to get a long num.
then you can transform long int to orther class that you need ,and do this in server.
at the end of all you can send this info to J2ME/CLDC app with stream.

How to get the Last cell in HSSFCell (Excel sheet)

I am trying to convert an excel sheet to a tab limited file.
I am using HSSF and unable to track how do i know if the cell encountered is a last filled cell in excel sheet
Some of the cells in the sheet can be blank. In that case i am just using inputting a '\t' for that cell and read the next one. But coz of this when i get the last cell, a tab is included for that too.
Can someone let me know how can i rectify this?
it seems like HSSFCell does not have any methos like lastCell or so

How to get the last value edited by users from JTable?

I have a JDialog that includes an editable JTable. This table is used to set up field caption and font for a report program. I found only when cursor is moved to another cell, the value in current cell being edited will be transferred to Table Model. So if the user don�t move cursor to another cell after editing the value of a cell but click OK button directly, Table Model cannot get the last value edited by the user, I wonder if there is a way to fire JTable to transfer the value being edited to Table model.
By the way, I found if the TableCellEditor is using JCheckBox or JComboBox instead of JTextField, there is no this problem.

I guess you can make use of the following methods on your table model to inform it make it getValueAt bcos table data has changed.
fireTableCellUpdated
Notifies all listeners that the value of the cell at [row, column] has been updated.
fireTableChanged
Forwards the given notification event to all TableModelListeners that registered themselves as listeners for this table model.
fireTableDataChanged
Notifies all listeners that all cell values in the table's rows may have changed. The number of rows may also have changed and the JTable should redraw the table from scratch. The structure of the table (as in the order of the columns) is assumed to be the same.
But when to call these methods??

but some material have no records in some month
I need to check if this month have records,get it
or if there is no records, get the last records by month
how can i do this?

You check in R3...whether you have material data for that month...if yopu have data, in BW, run a repair full request by giving this criteria i.e. month criteria.
