Gettting value from a COUNT(*) using createNativeQuery

Does anyone have a working example of getting a count(fieldname) using em.createNativeQuery? I.E. (Select count(*) from table).getSingleResult()
I keep getting ClassCastException: java.util.Vector and then when I make it a vector I get a NullPointerException. I've tried using SqlResultSetmappings but get similar results.
I'm working in JDeveloper 10.1.3.4. Most of this app uses entity classes but the one I'm dealing with the developers chose not to make it an entity class so the necessity to use createNativeQuery.
This seems so simple but every example I've grabbed from goggle doesn't work or produces the same cast errors.
TIA,
Dave

Here's what I did to get this fixed:
            Vector<BigDecimal> result;
            result = (Vector<BigDecimal>)em.createNativeQuery("SELECT count(state_id) as ct FROM xref_state_sto WHERE "+userId+" = user_id").getSingleResult();
            BigDecimal value = result.elementAt(0);
            if (value.intValue() == 0) {
                Query q = em.createNativeQuery("INSERT INTO xref_state_sto(state_id, user_id) VALUES("+stateId+" ,"+ userId+" ) ");
                q.executeUpdate();
            }Edited by: dgress on May 28, 2009 5:18 AM

    From two given tables, how do you fetch the values from two columns using values from one column(get values from col.A if col.A is not null and get values from col.B if col.A is null)?

    Hi,
    Use NVL or COALESCE:
    NVL (col_a, col_b)
    Returns col_a if col_a is not NULL; otherwise, it returns col_b.
    Col_a and col_b must have similar (if not identical) datatypes; for example, if col_a is a DATE, then col_b can be another DATE or it can be a TIMESTAMP, but it can't be a VARCHAR2.
    For more about NVL and COALESCE, see the SQL Language manual: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/functions119.htm#sthref1310
    I hope this answers your question.
    If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all tables involved, and also post the results you want from that data.
    Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
    Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g., 11.2.0.2.0).

  • How to get all values from an interval using select statement

    Hi,
    Is it possible to write a select statement that returns all values from an interval? Interval boundaries are variable.
    something like this:
    select (for x in 1,1024 loop x end loop) from dual
    (this, of course, doesn't work)
    The result in this example should be 1024 rows of numbers from 1 to 1024. These numbers are parameters, so it is not possible to create a table with predefined values.
    Thanks in advance for your help,
    Mia.

    For your simple case, with a lower boundary of 1, you can use:
    SELECT rownum
    FROM all_objects
    WHERE rownum <= 1024For a set of number between say 50 - 100, you can use something like:
    SELECT rownum + (50 - 1)
    FROM all_objects
    WHERE rownum <= (100 - 50 + 1)Note, that all_objects was used only because it generally has a lot of rows. Any table with at least the number of rows in your range will work.

        return 0;
    In the above code im geeting project D which is an integer value. But not able to get the project name.
    Please some one guide me.

    As I said in the other thread, this really isn't the place to ask questions about a database API unrelated to the Illustrator SDK. You're far more like to find people familliar with your problem on a forum that is dedicated to answering those kinds of questions instead.

  • Retrieving values from table control using DYNP_VALUES_READ

    Hi all,
    I am trying to retrieve the values from the table control using the FM DYNP_VALUES_READ. I have a situation where user enter values in table control in T.code FB60 in Withholding tab for validation purpose. There i'll have to check based on some entries maintained in SET.
    I am unable to get the values when i scroll to the next page in the table control. FM raising an exception invalid_dynprofield.
    Expecting reply...

    You have to populate the dynpfields internal table before calling the function,
    data: repid like sy-repid.
    dynpfields-fieldname = 'PNAME'.
    append dynpfields.
    repid = sy-repid.
    call function 'DYNP_VALUES_READ'
    exporting
    dyname = repid
    dynumb = sy-dynnr
    tables
    dynpfields = dynpfields
    exceptions
    others.
    read table dynpfields index 1.
    pname = dynpfields-fieldvalue.
    Now you will have the field value in pname

  • How do I get values from a resultset using JDOM?

    I am very new to this and I dont have the slightest idea how to retrive values from a result and create a XML tree using JDOM

    ResultSet object has nothing to do with XML... so the only way to it
    is just read each row/column in your resultset and then create
    XML record based on structure of your resultset - annoying job...
    Also you can try to use tool developed by Oracle which based
    on SQL select statement parses resultset into XML...

    the reason why you can't get the text is because you are reading the value before some actually inserts anything in any fields.
    Here is what you need to do:
    Create a JDialog/JFrame. Create a JPanel and set that panel as contentPane (dialog.setContentPane(panel)). Insert all the components, ie JLabels and JTextFields. Add two buttons, Login and Cancel to the panel as well. Now get the username and password field values using getText() inside the ActionListener of the Login.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class LoginDialog extends JDialog
    String username, password;
      public LoginDialog( ){
        setTitle( "Login" );
        JPanel content = new JPanel(new GridLayout(0, 2) ); // as many rows, but only 2 columns.
        content.add( new JLabel( "User Name" ) );
        final JTextField nameField = new JTextField( "" );
        content.add( nameField );
        content.add( new JLabel( "Password" ) );
        final JTextField passField = new JTextField( "" );
        content.add( passField );
        JButton login = new JButton( "Login" );
        login.addActionListener( new ActionListener(){
          public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent ae ){
            username = nameField.getText();
            password = passField.getText();
            // call a method or write the code to verify the username and login here...
        content.add( login );
        JButton cancel = new JButton( "Cancel" );
        cancel.addActionListener( new ActionListener( ){
          public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent ae ){
            dispose(); // close the window or write any code that you want here.
        content.add( cancel );
        pack( ); // pack everything in the dialog for display.
        show(); // show the dialog.

  • How to get the first or last row value from a group using ntile

    I want to query and use ntile to divide by data in 4 groups (quartiles). I got this part no problem and it returns the list of rows and the ntile bucket value for each one.
    What I want though is to get only the first row from each ntile group (so in effect the max, q3, median, q1 and min values from the whole result). Of course I coud get max, min and median directly using the other functions, but how about the values for q3 and q1?
    My query contains this:
    NTILE(4) OVER (ORDER BY salary DESC NULLS LAST) as ntile
    So I want the highest, lowest, middle, q3 and q1 values for the salaries.

    I am using DAQmx v8.9.5. PXI-6602 with Windows XP, programming in C++.
    Is this a bug in the driver?

    Hi Mroche,
    You're correct that the number you are seeing is the rollover of an unsigned 32-bit integer.  Newer DAQ products use a 32-bit count register (e.g. M Series, TIO, X Series).  In this register, the value -1 is represented the same as 232-1.
    I wouldn't call this a bug exactly.  The value you are reading is what is in the count register, and I don't think it makes sense to necessarily assume that 4294967295 should be scaled to -1 for all cases.  Making this assumption would result in undesired behavior for anybody trying to count to 231 or higher (at which point the count would roll over to -231).
    Having said that... position measurements are treated differently starting in DAQmx 9.0 due to the behavior reported on another thread which was in fact deemed a bug (which I notice you have seen already).  The driver casts the raw count to I32 before scaling it to a position.
    Now, I'm not so sure it makes sense to treat the two measurement types differently, but I think the reasoning behind the decision was that negative values make sense when talking about position, but for counting edges not quite as much (what exactly is a negative number of edges?).  In the count edges case, I think it makes the most sense for DAQmx to allow the user to handle rollovers himself.  At the end of the day, all the driver can do is change where the rollover occurs (either at 0 = 232 or 231 = -231).
    In your case, if you want to read (-) values on your count edges task, the easiest way to accomplish this is to read the data back as U32 (DAQmxReadCounterU32) then type cast it to I32.  This will give the result that I think you are looking for.
    If you have any suggestions to help improve usability, please feel free to post to the DAQ Idea Exchange.  Some preliminary ideas to make this experience a little more intuitive might include a property node to set how the data is cast, or perhaps have the driver cast the data to I32 if the Count Direction is set to anything other than Count Up.  Although, the 2nd idea has the potential to break existing applications so it might not be as viable of an option.
    Best Regards,
