Glitchy animation in Flash Tween

I have created a simple animation using motion tween in Flash CS3. The animation appears to be glitchy sometimes stuttering and flickering. I have an example of this at the following address:
http://mbluk.com/mbl11/web-design.aspx
Does anyone know why this might be and if there is an easy way to fix it?

just asked and answered a short while ago - see thread from

  • Please convince me that animating in Flash doesn't suck.

I'm a freelance animator coming from 3DS MAX and Maya, trying to do some flash (cs4) animations because I'm desperate for work.
There are things that bug me about animating in flash. I'm going to list them out, and if you have an answer or solution please reply and help me out.
To give a frame of reference, I am tasked with animating an intricate snake-like creature, made of several dozen separate pieces (symbols? objects?). All I am allowed to do is move, rotate, and scale them using "classic tween", I can't mess with the library, move pivots, or rearrange layers. I know that bones are in flash now, and would help with a lot of my frustrations, but the client does not want it to be rigged with bones for whatever reason. (I'm guessing importing into their old engine tech does not jive).
    Ok. Here are my gripes:
1: I can't explain this, but the whole entire way flash works is completely alien to me coming from 3D animation. The way the key frames and timeline works is like trying to pilot an alien ship in some other dimension where nothing makes logical productive sense.
2: If I scrub the timeline to check movement, it unselects my objects, so I have to reselect them EVERY TIME?? This wastes soooo much time and is incredibly tedious.
3: Can I jump forward/back between keyed frames instead of just using < and > to go through each frame?
4: Playback is slow. What should be 30 fps plays back at 17 fps or less. Can I set it to "low quality" in flash itself..? It does not need to have anti aliased sprites while I'm animating.
4a: Why doesn't it skip frames instead of play in slow mo? At least then I could get timing down.
5: Why can't I make a simple heirarchy of objects? I have to animate a neck made of 10 pieces (and another neck, and 2 tails).
6: Selecting multiple objects means I can sort of make a heirarchy, I guess... but do I really have to move the pivot every time? This is especially time consuming when everything gets unselected when I scrub the timeline.
7: Is there an Autokey? Do I have to select the exact frame of all the multiple layers I want to keyframe.. press F6, and then hit Q, and only then can I start to animate?
8: Sometimes I select objects and multiple frames in the timeline are highlighted automatically. so I press F6 to insert keyframe, and it makes a keyframe on all those highlighted frames rather than one frame. This means I have to pick what layers to animate by specifically selecting their frames.
9: I can't seem to use the distort tool. It's grayed out. Is this because I'm using Classic Tween?
That's what I can think of right now. Like I said above, Please, if you have a solution or work around for ANY of this, I beg you to fill me in
    Thanks!

Hey Man, I've been using Flash for a long time and love it to death, but I can totally understand your gripes. They are quite valid.
As others have mentioned... its just different. It is really amazing what Flash allows you to do with just a minimal understanding of the basics. Once you start needing more advanced control... well it gets harder. Most people who start using flash just want their logo to spin... and not necessarily build a snake with joints:)
You mentioned you use Flash CS4. It allows 2 methods of tweening:
Classic Tween: All beginning and ending positions must be keyframed manually
Motion Tween: Auto keyframing similar to after effects.
From my position and long history with Flash I greatly prefer classic tweening. When I need something more advanced I use the TweenMax / lite Actionscript engine.  I find the new Motion Tweens to be a real pain, and unless I'm doing 3D tweens... I avoid them completely.
Once you start doing advanced CS4 Motion Tweens you are going to be manually adding specific Property Keyframes so I really don't find them to have an advantage unless there is something super specific I need to do.
Again its a matter of preference.
As for playback performance. Totally. If I want to make anything look good I set my FPS to 45. Most banner networks have limits of 18fps which is a real struggle to make look good. On a mac especially, the control > test movie output runs much worse then the browser plugin. Also in flash cs4 the stage has a live running instance of the flash player and it really doesn't handle things all that well. It is pretty ridiculous that a simple vector animation stutters at 30fps. I'm totally with you. The good news is the Flash Player / Plugin is getting better. Back in 98 or whenever flash hit the scene, most of our computers were running at what 233mhz with video cards with 8mb of ram. Yeah, sure then 12fps may have been asking a lot. But in this age of mulicore processors, dedicated graphics, highly optimized mobile graphics cards and limitless ram...shouldn't Flash play a little better?... YES! Current gen smartphones have more juice across the board then the desktops I started out with, higher resolution too!
I'm sure your 3D experience will carry over well. I'm sure a lot of us would like to take our flash skills to 3D. In no time you will find that it really can do what you want it to. It just takes a little time and a good deal and a ton patience;)
    Best,
    Carl

  • How can I combine animation from Flash with a video from Photoshop to make a movie?

I have a project that's due tomorrow. I had to create a motion tween and animation and record a video to put in it, which I have done both already. My question here is, how can I combine my animation from flash and my video from Photoshop to make it into one movie?

No, I am saying that this isn't the forum for help with that. This forum is for Firefox user support, and the helpers in this forum aren't versed in development issues like that - we're volunteers, not Mozilla developers and don't work for Mozilla. You are better off asking about that in a forum where other web site developers do support.

  • Control Animation from Flash

    Hello,
Does anyone know how I can control multiple animations (imported flash swf files) in a slide.
These swf files are mostly 2 or more frames long with a stop on the first frame.
I need to be able to click on them in Captivate 4 and advance to the next frame in the swf.
Reading actionscript on these frames would be a plus.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes you can add pretty much what you want in the swf's you import into Captivate. That is really the beauty of it because it allows you to use some pretty advanced stuff directly in your Captivate productions.
You can also implement communication between your swf and Captivate to allow advanced integration betweeen the two. You can see a list of the different variables here: http://www.captivate4.com/2009/04/28/system-variables-in-captivate-4-%e2%80%93-a-complete- list/

I am used to using brush function more conveniently in Flash

all pretty identical tho I would go with cs, just because I

  • Animations in Flash to InDesign

    hello buddys !!
I made a animation in Flash CS5.5 and I wanna put it in InDesign CS5.5 .. I'm creating a magazine for iPad .. and I'm thinking to put some animations inside the magazine .. thats why I used Flash to create the animations !

You can´t use any Flash/SWF content in iPad, it simply doesn´t work there because Apple´s mobile devices don´t have support for Flash.... any kind of support at all.
You have to convert your animation to html5 and import that format to your iPad magazine by using html/web-view tools which you can probably find from any iPad magazine production tool.
You have couple of options how you can proceed. You can try to use Adobe´s free Wallaby converter from Adobe Labs.
Or another choise is Google´s Swiffy which you can now install as a plugin to your Flash. It converts ActionScript2 timeline animations really nicely to html5.
I have tried with only eDocker Tablet Pubisher´s Add html-content tool and there it worked like a charm. I guess it will work with Adobe DPS`s web-view as well.

  • I made a animation in flash, thought I could share it with you

I made an animation in flash which I thought I could share it
with you - my fellow flash animators! The animation is called "I

Photoshop Logo. I came up with the characters, and the characters
artwork they present. I Illustrated & animated them all and did
    the voice overs.

I am having a similar problem.  I cannot export a 4 min. video of to imov or DVD, Youtube, ext. under Share.   Under imov. it takes about 3 hrs to finish then I get a message File Cannot Be Opened.  It leaves and imov icon  but when I select it, a message reads File May Be Damaged.  Under DVD it says The File Is To Large For Disk.
If I need to reinstall Final Cut Pro X how do I go about doing that?

  • Traditional Animation in Flash

Are there any tutorials, videos, books etc... on doing
traditional animation in flash? I draw every frame on paper scan it
in photoshop then compile in after effects. But I want to learn how
to do it in flash. Also set up libraries etc. I hear animation
companies pritty much adopt ther own ways of doing it.
    Thanks

If you are already skilled as a traditional animator, cel
style animation is as simple as turning on
Onionskin, using the F7 key (Insert Blank Keyframe) and
drawing with your tool of choice.
    That's the short answer.

  • Animated web flash menu

    Hi,
i have made an animated web flash menu which consists of 1
    preloader SWF
file, which displays a progress bar till my main movie is
    being loaded.
while the main movie is loaded the animated web flash menu (+
    images
    +sounds) is played.
this is wonderful on my main PHP page, but now i would like
    have this
animated web flash menu on each of my PHP page.
However, i do not want to play all animations, i just want to
    display
the final result, to avoid end users to be bored with a
    repeating animation.
so in fact, just to display the menu and animated pictures...
    but
without sounds, and all others animation.
what is the best way ?
    thanks a lot,
    A.

  • How to control the speed of an animation in Flash Catalyst

I had created a simple slide show  in Flash and published as a .swf file. The slide show contains few  images and the animation takes about 45 seconds to run at 8 frames per  second. When i imported it into Flash Catalyst, the animationa runs very  fast, taking only about 15 seconds to get through the whole slide show.  I re-adjusted the animation in Flash to make it run slower but when i  imported the new version into flash catalyst, it runs at the same speed,  --still very fast.
Is there any way for me to control the speed of my animation and make it runs the same speed as I set up in Flash?
    Thanks,

Take a look at this forum post to see one solution:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3402367#3402367
It takes a little effort in Flash Builder. but it should work. I am assuming your custom component goes from state 1 to state 2, and all the effects occur in the timeline?
The other option is to go back to Flash Profession and have it do the looping.

  • Created animation in flash turn it into a rollover

So I have created a great little one second animation for my instagram Icon and it runs perfect.  My question is does anyone know how I can bring it into adobe edge and turn it into a rollover button so when you rollover it the entire animation plays?

    Hi Alek
You can directly generate sprite sheet of your animation from Flash Pro.You can generate the same from the library panel.
Let us know If that helped.

  • Animating in Flash

I made a simple animation of a bitmap logo, but it gets

I love Flash, but this can really get under my skin.

    Anyone??

Is the bitmap scaled at all? this splash page took about 10
seconds to load on my fiber optic high
speed internet connection - seems like it may be a large
bitmap that you scaled in flash? the
"slicing" is truly annoying though :(

  • Want to get a quote on animating a Flash 'movie'

I don't need a website designed, just a flash 'movie'-style animation (2 min. approx. duration)
I've created static content in Ai CS4 that I just need to be animated, and I could supply people with a storyboard.
Similar look to the animation on this site: http://www.mediawide.com/  but with more complex animations and graphics.
Where can I find a relatively inexpensive (but reputable) place to do this? I'm in the Toronto Canada area, but I'd welcome global suggestions.
Attached is the first 9 frames (out of approx. 30)

Mmm... two weeks... thats a tight time frame for 7000 frames and hundreds of objects from the look of your samples, and thats even if every single object was already seperated into individuals and the anims were simple single tweens exactly one second each for all thirty. Even figuring generously at the very minimum it would take someone working full time more than that, unless they had a staff who could devote full time to the project, which unfortunately I cannot.
Flash has a free trial download, lasts a month, if you think you can do it yourself in that time frame, DL the trial give it a shot... or tell your boss he is unrealistic, and or it will cost a good deal more than your probably prepared to pay within the time frame you specify.

  • Import animation from Flash...

Is there a way to export an animation out of Flash and into Captivate? What I'm talking about isn't the animation itself I guess, but the motion and effects of an animation to be used in the Effects palette of Captivate under Add Effects>Browse. I know the accepted format is XML, so I guess that is what it would need to be. To hopefully better explain, lets say I create an effect in Flash for text that I really like, is it then possible to make that animation available in Captivate to apply to text in a slide? I'm guessing not, but figured I would ask. TIA!

Yes, as long as you are talking about a Classic tween, you can export it as a XML in Flash and use that as a custom effect in Captivate.
