• Gmail no longer working with Apple Mail?

In the lasts 24 hours, without making changes to hardware or software, Mail has quit retrieving mail from my gmail accounts.
While I never receive any sort of warning about passwords or other issue, I simply get this:
And the "activity" window just stays that way... for hours with no result. The Connection Doctor window:
The Church Email account is an old one that is no longer active... I just haven't removed it from my list. But the "verify username and password" message is consistent... Strangely enough, down the same window - the SMTP connection works just fine. I can sent mail from all of my gmail accounts using Mail... Considering that the user name/password is the same for both sending and receiving mail.. SOMETHING is funky with Apple Mail.
Anybody have a guess what to check? This is frustrating.

Did you change any setting in Mail? Did you change your gmail account password? Did you activate 2-step verification on your gmail account?
If you haven't done anything from above, maybe problem is with your network... Did you try to turn off your router for few minutes and then turn ON again?
Did you install any 3rd party security apps on your Mac? Did you enable system firewall? Do you use any proxy servers? Do you use VPN?
There might be more questions...

• Gmail no longer working on Pre

Yesterday, out of the blue, Gmail stopped syncing on my Pre. I have made no changes before the issue. I looked at email and there was a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Emails that I could see on my desktop were not making it to my phone.
I deleted the account off the Pre. I then re-added the account. Initially it worked, as the "missing emails" were now on my phone. However, when I woke up this morning, same issue.
I deleted the account once again off the Pre, today and then re-added. The missing emails were again picked up, but a few minutes later the yellow triangle re-appeared and is no longer syncing.
I have made no changes at all prior to this issue.
Anyone with any ideas. I reported the issue on precentral and a number of people said they were having the same issue.
I should also mention, I also have Exchange set up and that is syncing fine.

Similar story for me just now, the email client doesn't seem to be syncing properly with gMail. I don't use any other email provider so I'm not sure if it's just a problem with the client generally or whether it's gMail specific. I'm in the UK on O2, connecting to gMail with IMAP. • Downloading IOS 6 and my gmail no longer works. Can anyone help?

Hi all - how can I get my gmail back? It is no longer updating after uploading IOS 6. I have an iPod Touch which is working okay.
Please make your answer easy to understand - I am a newbi with this technology.
Thanks.

Problem resolved: I didn't get any replies from the Community and was desperate. So, I researched on Apple Support and received very easy to understand instructions - see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899 The intructions worked perfectly. Essentially, it was to delete my gmail account and re-enter it. There are a few other steps involved, so read the article. Am I happy!! Thank you to whoever wrote this article.

• Gmail no longer works after iOS 6.1.3 update

I just updated my iPad 3 to iOS 6.1.3 and immediately noticed that when I tried to open the mail client, it would launch and shut off. Turns out that I had to delete all of my gmail accounts and then the mail client worked. I tried to add the gmail accounts back but now I get the following error:
The IMAP server "imap.gmail.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
The strange part is that I also updated my iPhone 5 and everything works fine, including gmail! I check the setting between the two devices and they are the same.
Apparently, many have reported these types of issues over the past few days. However, I've yet to see a solution. Apple hasn't seemed to have responded at all.

JimHdk,
Not sure what the issue is...like I said, my iPhone works fine with the 6.1.3 upgrade, the iPad doesn't...only after the updgrade. Additionally, other's have reported the same issue with gmail.

• Gmail no longer working on ios products mail

Good morning...I posted something the other day about being unable to get mail on my iphone..I followed directions..unlockedcaptcha and revoked access in the two step process. I got it working for about a day and now its out again on both iphone 5 and ipad..both running latest ios. Have repeatedly revoked access and re-entered new codes...have even removed two step authentication and nothing. My contacts and calendars sync just fine still but my mail is the biggest issue. My business uses google apps and my mail app is getting that mail just fine. I am not sure if other ios folks are having issues but its getting frustrating at this point. After a few years problems started on Saturday..on my imac yesterday it was also having issues...I would delete mail or it wouldn't load at all and then it would show back up. Today that works just fine. Is anyone else experiencing this by any chance or can someone suggest a fix? The only thing I can think of that changed...was at a verizon store with a friend over the weekend and he needed to recover his gmail password for his android phone and we used my phone to recover it. I can get mail with the gmail app if hat helps.
Thanks for listening

• Gmail no longer working via Mail in Mountain Lion

Not sure what the problem is, but can only imagine ML is in some way involved.
Gmail stopped working via mail (not immediately after upgrade to ML, but a few days later).
First, kept asking for PW, which it decalred to be invalid. I tried restarting, to no avail. All was working fine via mail on iPad 2 and iPhone 4, plus no problem logging into web version of gmail.
I decided to try deleting the whole gmail account on the MBP, closing mail, and restarting, but this has now resulted in me not being allowed to set up my gmail acocunt at all, since (via SysPref) I am told the gmail username/PW is invalid, so my MBP is now completely incapable of accessing any of the family of services from gmail (incl gCal etc.). But all remains aOK via iOS / gmail via web.
Can anyone suggest a fix? I've looked around the various discussions and although some people say they are having need to try gamil tweaks now, with Mail, none of the solutions I saw seem to work for my case.
I am using the correct gmail address (i.e. there's no conflice re @googlemail vs @gmail) - this seemed to have been a problem for some people, but not in this case.

• Gmail no longer working on my iphone 4S

Hello! All of the sudden my gmail on my iphone 4S is popping up saying "Cannot get Mail. The user name or password for imap.gmail.com" is incorrect. "
I have deleted the gmail off my phone. Gone to gmail on my laptop and changed the password. Went to settings and reset up, still getting same error. I have done the capta reset on both my phone and my laptop. Nothing.
Please let me know if anyone knows a way around this!
Thank you!!
SW

Thank you for the suggestions but none of them worked. HOWEVER, I did solve the problem! It seems that at some point, I had turned on the 2 step verification in my GMAIL and somehow that disabled my phone from being able to access gmail. once I turned that off, and tried to add my gmail it worked! WHEW.
Have a great day!

• GMAIL no longer works in Apple Mail?

I can't receive GMAIL any Apple Mail any longer but I can access gmail and it functions propertly through their web site. I have double checked on the IMAP settings and can't figure it out.

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

• Gmail Push no longer works after update to iOS 4.2.1

I have tested this several times. What previously worked as push yesterday no longer works as push from my Gmail account today after updating to 4.2.1. Is anyone else having this issue? In order to get mail to show up on my phone, I have to go into Mail on my phone. Then the little connecting thing starts up and all the mail since the last time I checked appears.

This may be related -- I just updated my iPhone to 4.2.1 from 4.1. I immediately found that my Google Apps accounts, which had been configured as vanilla IMAP in Mail.app and successfully synced with iPhones as such for the past couple of years, have now started to sync with my iPhone as gmail accounts (not plain IMAP) and have therefore completely lost the custom From addresses, as it seems the iPhone does not allow custom From addresses in gmail accounts. (The accounts list in iPhone mail now has little red gmail icons instead of the generic blue account icons.) It also seems that push no longer occurs, whereas it certainly used to.
Deleting all of the mail accounts from the iPhone, power-cycling the iPhone and then freshly syncing mail accounts from iTunes results in the same outcome. It is as though the iPhone is looking at the IMAP/SMTP settings and inferring that since they end with .gmail.com that the accounts are of type gmail, regardless of the fact that I have said that they are plain old IMAP. (It is tempting to create a noddy domain with CNAMEs pointing at {imap,smtp}.gmail.com just to fool the iPhone however it would probably then complain about invalid SSL certificates.)
I deleted one of the accounts and recreated it manually on the iPhone. This lets me create a plain IMAP account even with {imap,smtp}.gmail.com server names, however when editing the address field, the keyboard which appears is bizarre -- no comma key! (Yes, I searched the various modifier keys, etc.) So, I copied a comma into the clipboard, pasted it into the middle of two From addresses and was at least mildly relieved to find that the mail program did then let me choose between the addresses. However, given half a dozen Google Apps accounts and a plethora of custom From addresses, there is no way that I am going to create this stuff manually. Maybe I will give that CNAME trick a go after all...
My iPad on 4.2 is fine, however I have a hunch that I have not since resynced mail accounts to it since updating. I'll certainly not be daring to do that now.

Since upgrading to FF5, "mailto" links no longer work - my "tools/options/applications/mailto" is set to gmail.
Previously, when I clicked onto an email link, my gmail would open up.
Now, nothing happens.

Please do the following.

#Open Microsoft Internet Explorer and then click '''Tools '''and go to '''Internet Options'''.

#Click the ''Programs ''tab and where you see "Email", choose your email client.

#Remove the checkmark from where it says "''Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default browser''" in the same menu.

#Click Apply/OK and close Internet Explorer.

#Next, start Firefox and click the orange Firefox button, go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''Advanced'''.

#In the '''General '''tab, '''System Defaults''' at the bottom, checkmark the option: "'''Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup'''" and then click the "''Check Now''" button.

#Click OK, close Firefox and then restart it again.
You should now have a mailto: option in the Applications panel.

• Firefox just sent a notice that it no longer works with Mac OS X 10.5. Is that why my gmail calendar keeps non- or dysfuntioning?

I have been experiencing constant dysfunction in my Gmail calendar on my Mac Mini, but not on any other computer. It happens whether I am using Safari or Firefox. This morning Firefox sent a notice that is no longer works with Mac OS X 10. Suggestions?

Your best bet is to get a computer capable of running the latest version of Mac OS X - Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8). This is the most secure option and will allow you to run the latest and greatest Firefox.
That is a pretty crazy suggestion just to update a browser! There is another alternative if you are worried about having an unsupported browser.
You can run TenFourFox whose purpose is to support older Macs.

• I upgraded to 6.02 and still get this message from Gmail: "You are using an old version of Firefox which Gmail no longer supports. Some features may not work correctly. Upgrade to new version."

When I opened Gmail in my Firefox browser, I got a message I've never seen, before: "You are using an old version of Firefox which Gmail no longer supports. Some features may not work correctly. Upgrade to new version." I clicked on upgrade to a new version and was taken to the Mozilla site, where I downloaded the latest version of Firefox... then, when I restarted my computer, Gmail still gives me the same message!! What's going on?

Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5 and a Mac with an Intel processor.

For an unofficial Firefox ESR 10.0.4 compatible version (TenFourFox) that runs on PowerPC Macs with OS X 10.4.11 or OS X 10.5.8 you can look at:

I am having the same problem as many of you. 3G iPhone. 2.0.2.
In the past 3 weeks I have had at least 5 if not 8-10 examples of loss of all iPod content and access to all apps. I know this happens on 2.0.2 and I know it happened at least a couple of times on 2.0.1. I am fairly certain that it never happened on 2.0.0.
This seems to happen EVERY time that the iPod crashes and reboots itself or when I force a hard reset. I haven't tried with a normal turn off/shut down in fear of having to go through this whole process again.
I have a solution that while not optimal works EVERY TIME!
1. Do a "reset all settings" from general settings. This will wipe out the set up of an exchange mail client, but not Yahoo, Gmail, or POP. While a pain this only takes a few minutes to reset up. It will not touch any app settings, high scores, etc. Additionally, all of your apps will need to reordered on the screen if you are like me and like certain ones to be on certain pages. Again, a pain, but this takes 5-10 minutes max for 4 pages worth of apps. Additionally, you will need to change any other personalized settings that you have set up (ring tones, favorites, brightness, etc.) At this point all iPod content will be back, but apps still won't work.
2. Go to the app store and download any app that you want. This will have you reinputing your username and password. Once this is compthe app is fully downloaded and installed you will have access to all of your apps again and your phone will work perfectly UNTIL THE NEXT TIME YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. Note, during this step, I have done a hard reset multiple times and gone through a overly long Apple logo time frame (and sometimes even hard reset during the Apple logo again) but this has yet to have any ill effect. Once the phone comes back up all apps works and all iPod content is there.
Finally, I have now stopped downloading or updating apps directly from the phone if at all. As this often causes or requires a hard reset.
Generally I get one to two days before having to do this again.
Please know I am not suggest this is all OK and I am barely tolerating this as it should just get fixed, but this is pretty easy and while monotonous on the 5th+ time, it isn't that time consuming and has worked every time.

Downgrading to iTunes 7.7.0 following the steps in the link below has worked for me for about 12 days now.

It boggles my mind that with an issue like this so big that Apple STILL doesn't have a permanent fix for it yet.
