Going from Oracle 9.2.0.7 To 10.2.0.3

Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading our 9.2.0.7 databases to 10g and the question is to which patchset, will it be 10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.2.
As recommended by Oracle I downloaded the latest patchset 10.2.0.3 and applied it the base 10g install (10.2.0.1)
Before running the upgrade, I ran the pre-upgrade information script UTU102i.sql and this gave me back this result.
My question is why is Oracle 10.2.0.3 patchset is trying to install XDB, XDK, Java Packages in my DB when I don't really use, 10.2.0.2 patchset didn't do this, it only upgraded the ones that I already had in the DB.
Because of this I am rethinking if I should go with 10.2.0.2 patchset and I also reading some blogs about the patchset being bugy.....
Any insights in to this, I appreciate your help.
Components: [The following database components will be upgraded or installed]
--> Oracle Catalog Views [upgrade] VALID
--> Oracle Packages and Types [upgrade] VALID
--> JServer JAVA Virtual Machine [upgrade] VALID
...The 'JServer JAVA Virtual Machine' JAccelerator (NCOMP)
...is required to be installed from the 10g Companion CD.
--> Oracle XDK for Java [upgrade] VALID
--> Oracle Java Packages [install]
--> Oracle XML Database [install]
--> Oracle Workspace Manager [upgrade] VALID

FWIW, I applied 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3 to my home computer instance and encountered no trouble at all.
This was originally a 10.2.0.1 fresh install, not an upgrade from 9i.
I'm not having any problems after applying 10.2.0.3, but this is just my play instance. I don't use it very often and even then only for testing and learning.

    Are we going to get any comment from Oracle about the forum upgrade debacle?
    An unannounced upgrade, providing what seemed to be reduced functionality, followed by a rollback and loss of posts. And today, silence.

    Jim i hope oracle will revert back the same very soon and no loss of any post.Oracle should have backup before any maintenance job ,but question arise here there is also shuffling between accounts what can be done for that scenario.

  • Calling web service from oracle forms fails with ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR

    Problem Description:
    I'm following the steps as per the doc:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/howto/webservicefromforms/ws_10_1_3_from_forms.html
    to create a java stub to call external web service and then use java importer in oracle forms to call this web service from oracle forms.
    WSDL for external web service used is http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConverter.asmx?wsdl
    Calling the web service using JDeveloper works fine but from Oracle Forms returns ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR; Unable to call out to Java, Invalid object type for argument 1
    The code from oracle form to call web service is as below:
    DECLARE
    jo ora_java.jobject;
    rv ora_java.jobject;
    ex ora_java.jobject;
    outString varchar2(2000);
    BEGIN
    jo:= CurrencyConvertorStub.new;
    --This will get the exchange rate from US Dollars to UK Sterling.
    rv:= CurrencyConvertorStub.ConversionRate(jo,'CAD','USD');
    message (float_.floatValue(RV));
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR then
    message('Unable to call out to Java, ' ||ORA_JAVA.LAST_ERROR);
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.EXCEPTION_THROWN then
    ex := ORA_JAVA.LAST_EXCEPTION;
    outString := Exception_.toString(ex);
    message(outString);
    END;
    Any help/ideas on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Yes, it is the message line - so basically this call fails => rv:= CurrencyConvertorStub.ConversionRate(jo,'CAD','USD'); and control goes in the exception block
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR then
    message('Unable to call out to Java, ' ||ORA_JAVA.LAST_ERROR);
    Below is the code from java stub that was generated using JDeveloper by using web services stub/skeleton and associating the WSDL
    public Double ConversionRate(String FromCurrency, String ToCurrency) throws Exception
    URL endpointURL = new URL(endpoint);
    Envelope requestEnv = new Envelope();
    Body requestBody = new Body();
    Vector requestBodyEntries = new Vector();
    String wrappingName = "ConversionRate";
    String targetNamespace = "http://www.webserviceX.NET/";
    Vector requestData = new Vector();
    requestData.add(new Object[] {"FromCurrency", FromCurrency});
    requestData.add(new Object[] {"ToCurrency", ToCurrency});
    requestBodyEntries.addElement(toElement(wrappingName, targetNamespace, requestData));
    requestBody.setBodyEntries(requestBodyEntries);
    requestEnv.setBody(requestBody);
    Message msg = new Message();
    msg.setSOAPTransport(m_httpConnection);
    msg.send(endpointURL, "http://www.webserviceX.NET/ConversionRate", requestEnv);
    Envelope responseEnv = msg.receiveEnvelope();
    Body responseBody = responseEnv.getBody();
    Vector responseData = responseBody.getBodyEntries();
    return (Double)fromElement((Element)responseData.elementAt(0), java.lang.Double.class);

    Hi,
    Oracle9i has a geodetic data model. Your data has a geodetic
    srid, which means that the data will need to conform to the rules
    associated with geodetic data. These rules include:
    No optimized rectangles are supported (my guess is the app is
    using an optimized rectangle as a query window, but the data
    could be the issue also).
    No arcs or circle types are supported.
    A single line segment cannot be equal to or greater than 1/2 the
    great circle distance.
    A polygon cannot have an area equal to or greater than 1/2 the
    surface area of the earth.
    You should try to find what version of Mapx supports Oracle9i.

    dan

  • How can I use unix commands from oracle report

    Hi,
    It's because .bat (or .cmd) files are scripts and not executables and are interpreted using the command line executable - which is normally cmd.exe (although you can buy others).
    So you need to call cmd.exe passing the bat file name as a parameter, something like
    cmd.exe /c batchfilename
    Without the /c you will never get a response.
    However, this brings us to the bizarre conclusion that you are going to:
    call cmd.exe (a shell interpreter)
    to launch a batch file
    that calls cygwin (another shell interpreter)
    which then runs ls
    When shouldn't that just be:
    call cmd.exe to run the dir command
    Or better yet, If you are just after a file name listing and you seem to understand Java stored procs, why not just write a JSP to list the contents of a directory? No problems with OS dependant commands, scripts and 3rd party interpreters. Plenty of examples of that out on the internet as well.
    HTH

  • How to invoke A CORBA-Java Client Application, from Oracle???

    Hi,
    I have a CORBA-Java Client Application, which takes the input parameters from a Oracle table and calls the CORBA Server, passes these parameters to the C++ Server Application and gets the results back thorugh CORBA.
    My problem is, this java application needs to be invoked, when ever there is a new record in the Oracle table.
    I am not sure if i can use Java Stored Procedures in Oracle in this case, because my app is in Sun JVM and i am using BEA WebLogic Enterprise 5.1 for the CORBA.
    Is there any other way by which i can invoke this app, when a new record is updated in the Oracle table?
    Currently, i have just put a TIMER in my java App, to check the oracle table in every few seconds, to see if there is a new reocrd. If it finds a new record it invokes the corresponding class(corba class), or else just keep sending a messsage that no new record is available.
    The problems i am facing in this method are as follows;
    1. Unnecessarily, the application has to keep on running if there is no request coming frequently.
    2. When there is a new record found, the Corba Class is called and the whole process (till it gets the result back from the server) takes about 20 - 30 secs. But within this period, if there is another record coming into Oracle table, my timer class doesnt invoke another corba class....(though i am using multithreading by using the RemidTask method in the timer.schedule.
    (timer.schedule(new RemindTask(),10,5*1000);)
    3. Also, if during the first call, there is some error, then the whole process exits, instead of another process running parallely (when a second new record is found).
    So how does this timer class act like a multithreading process?
    Well, i hope i am not confusing....Please let me know if anyone wants bit more elaboration on this.
    It would be really helpful if someone can suggest some answer to my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you very much Keith.
    Though i am really getting a hope of solving this problem, from you answer, i am actually not 100% sure if i understood your reply properly.
    First of all, about
    1. "use the update stored procedure to place the updated record (or unique index) onto an Oracle Application Queue."
    -- Why do i need to put the record in the AQ. (Frankly speaking, at this moment i dont have much idea about AQ, probably i can learn more about it from oracle technet site? Or would u suggest anything else?)
    Then,
    2."Your app then waits on this queue and for each new message, consumes it, gets the data required from the AQ load (e.g the index and or record), and fires off the CORBA class"
    -- How does my application stay in the queue? and gets the data from the queue?
    Of course, as far as i understand, i am going through the same principle...keeping on running a timer class, which keeps on checking the table for a new record, and when it finds, it calls the CORBA class.
    Of course, i feel there should be a difference in running the timer continuosly and staying in queue. However i am totally unaware, how can i make my java app to wait in the queue and waits for a new record?
    Can you please elaborate your answer a bit more, because i dont know about the AQ, that you have mentioned.
    Thank you very much in advance for your time. But please know that it will be of great help to me and hence will be higly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Subhasree.

    I have looked up the errors on Oracle forums and could not get any valuable help anywhere.
    Can someone kindly help out where I am going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello kgronau,
    Thank You very much for your recommendations.  I removed the parameter HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 255.
    I added HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1 and also HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    Tested my sql statement, which yielded the result as follows:
    SQL> select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
    select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
    ㈵″㠵6
    SO I thought I would give a try of removing the line HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
    and again tested my sql statement and it worked like a charm!!!!
    I tested a count(*) and got the results back.
    SQL> select count(*) from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
      COUNT(*)
           600
    I really appreciate your valuable pointers and help.
    Thanks once again!!!
    Ram.

  • How to create xml file from Oracle and sending the same xml file to an url

    How to create xml file from Oracle and sending the same xml file to an url

    Whether that works for you with the version of Oracle you have, your requirements, and needs is another story. A little detail goes a long way.

  • Which CKM is used for moving data from Oracle to delimited file ?

    Hi All
    Please let me know Which CKM is used for moving data from Oracle to delimited file ?
    Also is there need of defining each columns before hand in target datastore. Cant ODI take it from the oracle table itself ?

    Addy,
    A CKM is a Check KM which is used to validate data and log errors. It is not going to assist you in data movement. You will need an LKM SQL to File append as answered in another thread.
    Assuming that you have a one to one mapping, to make things simpler you can duplicate the Oracle based model and create a file based model. This will take all the column definitions from the Oracle based model.
    Alternatively, you can also use an ODI tool odiSQLUnload to dump the data to a file

    ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
    Scenario:
    I am having difficulty getting ODBC connection between Oracle OWB app with an 11gR2 DB (running on a VirtualBox Linux) and SQL Server 2008 running directly on the host. (Windows 8)
    I am trying to take a SQL Server 2008 feed into Oracle Ware house Builder, and think(!) I have read everything and configured it in accordance (but I presume not given 3 days of failed attempts to fix it). I have also read several blogs, hence there might be a few more settings in the configuration files than the formal documentation says, but these have come from blogs that have “Solved” problems for other similar situations.
    The environments:

    Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver     = FreeTDS
    Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
    Trace       = 1
    Servername  = 192.168.1.80
    Database    = dbo
    Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
    [ACME_POS]
    Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    Server = 192.168.1.80
    Database
    = dbo     ####  I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
    Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
    TDS_Version = 8.0
    QuotedId=YES
    Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
    What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
    In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
    file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
    file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
    file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
    and post the output.

  • Calling a DLL from ORACLE: problem of time!!!

    Hi all! Now I'm going to explain this strange subject. I've made a DLL in Delphi that imports a file from a server. Then I've created an Oracle 9iR2 procedure that makes a call to this DLL. Someone can explain me why the first call to this DLL is slower than the successive calls (20 seconds the first, 5 seconds the other)?
    Thank you very much!

    Yes! It's exact! After post this message I've casually find this (from Oracle Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals):
    How the Database Server Calls External C Procedures
    To call an external C procedure, PL/SQL must find the path of the appropriate DLL.
    The PL/SQL engine retrieves the path from the data dictionary, based on the library alias from the procedure declaration’s AS LANGUAGE clause. Next, PL/SQL alerts a Listener process which, in turn, spawns a session-specific
    agent. By default, this agent is named extproc, although you can specify other names in the listener.ora file. The Listener hands over the connection to the agent, and PL/SQL passes to the agent the name of the DLL, the name of the external procedure, and any parameters.
    Then, the agent loads the DLL and runs the external procedure. Also, the agent handles service calls (such as raising an exception) and callbacks to the Oracle
    server. Finally, the agent passes to PL/SQL any values returned by the external procedure.
    After the external procedure completes, the agent remains active throughout your
    Oracle session; when you log off, the agent is killed. Consequently, you incur the
    cost of launching the agent only once, no matter how many calls you make. Still, you should call an external procedure only when the computational benefits
    outweigh the cost.
    Thank you very much!

  • How to customize an existing OAF page from Oracle, change it and reload it

    Hello all Oracle Developers,
    I am having a question regarding to customization, basically I am going to follow a very simple example.
    We have form: APXVDMVD and OAF web Page AP_APXVDMVD.
    Applying all our custom code via forms personnalisation is piece of cake. However trying to apply the same code to OAF web Page AP_APXVDMVD
    is a total back box for us.
    The basic example seems like this: Suppose that in the Suppliers/Vendors Page we type the supplier name and then right after that we populate in consequence all the fields:
    Taxpayer ID, Tax Registration Number, DUNS Number
    We want to grab the OAF Web page from oracle apply the custom code in java code or whatever necessary to make it work and deploy it onto the server.
    Is this achievable, if so how we can do it??? Can we grab the web page extend the classes that are necessary and deploy the solution. The demo provided from Oracle
    is showing how to create pages from zero, however Oracle have not provided how to grab an existing applications page, put the code and the deploy it
    Let me know any inputs, whatever you did and surely we will be sharing the same stuff all migration R12 long :-)

    Hi,
    You can extend OA framework pages and customize them. There is also a section for customizations in the OA Framework Developer's guide. IF this requires extensive customizations, Iwould advice to be very careful as any extensions should not interfere with the base logic of the pages. Please post here if you need more details.
    The following blog is a good one for some examples.
    http://oracle.anilpassi.com/oa-framework-extending-controller-steps-2.html
    There is also a course for the same if you are interested.

    Hope this helps..

    If I do a Google search on the terms "Oracle mail", this askTom thread is the second hit
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:255615160805
    Did you already find this thread? If so, did it not answer your question sufficiently?
    Additionally, it would be quite helpful if you would post the results of running the code you posted. You've given no indication whether there is an error, what error might be generated, whether you're not seeing the expected behavior, whether the code crashes your system, etc. That leaves us to guess about what problems you might have between syntax errors, permission problems, configuration problems on the database, configuration problems on the SMTP server, operating system problems, network problems (the list goes on).

  • Select 10000 rows from Oracle in shortest way

    Looking for a good desicions for trasfering more than 10000 rows from
    oracle to mysql using only jdbc. Connect is mostly slow about 1 row in
    a second, rights on oracle are just for select, update, insert
    operations. I think if I can devide 10000 rows in 10 parts and transfer
    them in concurent threads and connections. Any suggestion can help me
    to solve this problem.

    See java.sql.Statement.setFetchSize(), e.g.I'm not sure that setFetchSize will have any impact on your performance. It is mostly a suggestion to the JDBC driver, and while in theory the suggestion may help, in practice I have not seen any signficant benefit when using Oracle.
    To test the speed of your fetch, try issuing your select, then loop through the resultset, getting all the columns, just don't do anything with them. You could try changing the fetchSize to see if it does have an impact in your specific architecture.
    Now that you know how fast you can 'get' all the rows, how much different is it then the 1 second per row that you are seeing when selecting and inserting (I'm assuming you haven't done this yet, sorry if you already have)?
    Assuming that you can select all rows in less then the 1 second per row in your original test; there are several things you can do to increase the speed of inserts. Try using a PreparedStatement if you are not already using one . Try using the .addBatch() and .executeBatch(). You can try changing the count of rows that are inserted on each executeBatch() command.
    If all your inserts are inserting into a single table, then I don't think multiple threads will help you, and may in fact hurt you because you could run into locking issues in the mySQL database. If you are inserting into multiple tables, then it is possible that multi-threading, done correctly, may provide some increase in overall speed.
    Oracle can be accessed with 3 different JDBC drivers. If you are using Oracle 8i or 9i, then try using the OCI8 driver instead of the thin driver. The OCI8 driver may provide some performance benefits when doing mass inserts in the older versions of Oracle. Do not use the JDBC-ODBC bridge as that will provide the worst performance.
    If I was going to move data between two different databases, and the vendor did not provide a utility to do that specifically then I would try and use the 1st db vendors unload utility to unload into a text file, and the 2nd db vendors load utility to load from that text file. These utilities have been optimized for speed far and above anything that will ever be available to you as a Java programmer using JDBC. That isn't always possible based on the architecture of your solution, but it is always preferrable.
    Best of luck to you.

  • DB Upgrade from Oracle 8i to Oracle 11g express edition

    Hello,
    As per the requirement i have to upgrade some of our application from oracle 8i to oracle 11g express edition on window base platform.
    I am using import/export utility to migrate data from oracle 8i database to newly installed oracle 11g XE database. after importing i have tested my application in testing environment. It is working fine.Now I have to do this in production env. before proceeding with it.
    please someone let me know what all things i have to keep in mind before execute in prod env. Like all risk,databse backup recovery, or any guidelines need to follow while upgrading lower version of oracle to 11g XE version.
    waiting for your valuable inputs.

    You might want to consider what other programs interacts with the database; can they still connect to a much newer db server version? Any integrations that need a dry run before going in production? Any other "ad hoc" applications, like excel, running against the db? (you could use listener.log to find out what connects to the db, but a year worth of history might be needed)
    Do you have any scripts or other "loosly coupled" stuff that needs review?
    Read the New features guides released between versions - there are five or six of them.
    Check out the Database Upgrade forum (you could look at this as an upgrade in general from 8.1.x to 11.2), {forum:id=583}. Search the forum for previous related topics and ideas.
