Going from Vista 64 to Window 8.  need serious instructions on how to proceed.

Computer is braking down so I`m thinking of going from Vista 64 to Windows 8 and I have no idea on how to proceed.
  Can`t afford an Apple.

Of course you can start over. New computer, new software, new beginning. But if you do that then you will have to start all over importing your images and making the adjustments that you have already done once. You said you have been creating catalogs (plural). If you have just one catalog, and have all your images inside of one main folder (you can have as many subfolders as you want) then switching to a new computer is simple. Put the catalog on the new computer, make sure your external hard drive has the same letter designation, install Lightroom, enter the serial number, and you should be good to go. It worked that way for me. But if you insist on starting over, just install Lightroom, enter your serial number, and go to work.

  • Re: Upgrade from Vista 32bit to Windows 7

    Dear Sirs
I need your support that how will I upgrade to 32bit Windows 7 from Vista.
    Regards.

I must confess from the get-go that my knowledge of the finer points of computers in general is limited, but I've heard that 64-bit is the way to go. I bought my system from Dell about 12 months ago. Since I didn't build it, I can't tell you what mother board I've got (Dell refuses to easily divulge that bit of info and it's kind of a huge problem), but I do know:
    Intel Q6600 @ 2.4 GhZ
    4 GB DDR2 800
    Radeon HD 3870 512 MB
    W/ Vista Ultimate 32-bit
So, my question is can I buy an upgrade kit to go from Vista 32 to Windows 7 64 or will I need to straight buy Windows 7 64 bit and install it? Will I need to update the BIOS? Is casual gaming, photo and video editing and HD video viewing even worth 64-bit? Again, since I don't know what mobo I have, all this may be for nothing because the board may not do 64-bit..

  • X60 Preloaded w/ Vista, currently running Windows 7, needs to reformat

I have a Thinkpad X60 that came with Windows Vista Business Edition, installed Windows 7 Professional when it came out.  I want to clean everything off of the hard drive but keep Windows 7 on there.  Is it true that if I use  the "ThinkVantage" button it will just get everything off of the hard drive and reinstall Vista instead of Windows 7? Is there any other way to reformat the drive without reinstalling 7?  Thanks in advance.

so you are saying that you currently have the windows 7 on it with the vista recovery partition?

  • Upgrading Thinkpad R61 from Vista-32Bit to Win7-64Bit_stuck & need Help

I'm in the mids of upgrading my ThinkPad R61
I've added memory to 4Gb and a newer drive 320Gb
I've purchased the Win7 Home Premium Vista to Win7 upgrade (CDs).
Can I upgrade this R61 laptop to Win 7-64Bit OS?
Thus far, I cannot boot from the Win7 Upgrade CD
So I tried with a USB external DVD.  I got past the Boot stage, however, it's prompting me for a CD/DVD driver before it can continue to load.
I am sensing that I will be prompted multiple times for additional drivers (perhaps 64Bit) before I ever complete the upgrade process.
What is the quickest & easiest path to upgrade my laptop to Win7-64Bit.  (At least, to the point where I can boot from the upgraded drive).
    My ThinkPad R61 Model =  #8932CTO

    Thanks GMAC-R60
My intention was to actualy do a clean install to Win7 -64Bit.
Perhaps it has everything to do with using an upgrade (32-Bit & 64-Bit) version CD of Win7 from Vista?
When I tried to upgrade to 64Bit, it eventually took me to a screen prompting for a CD/DVD driver to continue the upgrade.  I suspected it was looking for a 64bit driver (likely the SATA controller), so I opted out thinking it will be lloking for more drivers through the upgrade process.
I then successfully upgraded it to Win7 - 32Bit version.
However, I would like to take advantage of the 64Bit speed & useability of the additional RA I have inside the laptiop.
I noticed that Lenovo have a listing of Win7 64Bit drivers under their Support section.  If one was to download and expand them them to a folder, would it be possible to essentialy upgrade to 64Bit?
Or, perhaps get CD copy from Lenovo with all the required files & drivers?

  • Trying to Home share an itunes library from Vista laptop to Windows 8 laptop

Alright, so both laptops have been setup the same, home sharing turned on, exact same apple id and password. Both computers can see each other in the dropdown menu for "library",  HOWEVER, while the Vista laptop can see & import the library from the Windows 8 laptop, then Windows 8 laptop cannot see & therefore not import the library from the Vista laptop & out of the system without issue, the router has been checked to ensure that nothing is standing in the way on that end either. Is this some sort of backwards incompatibility? Or am I overlooking something  obscenely obvious? Any and all help is welcome, I have looked at a large number of discussions here and throughout the web already, nothing seems to work for my situation. Please help!!!

    Hello there MicknMadd,
It sounds like one of your computers can see the others library and import from it, but the other does not. You've done a lot of great troubleshooting and verification already, and I would recommend steps 5-7 from the following article to help further troubleshoot:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
    5. Check Firewall settings
If you have a firewall enabled in your router or computer, make sure that the firewall is not blocking communication between your computers. Home Sharing uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with shared iTunes libraries.
In addition, Apple TV and Mac computers will use port 123 to set the time automatically. Incorrect date and time on either the computer or Apple TV can cause errors for Home Sharing and connections in general.
If you are unsure whether your router has a firewall or the required ports open, test additional devices or another network to help isolate the issue. If the devices tested work on another home network, it is your router or network configuration.
For Mac OS X, you don't have to edit the port addresses, but make sure the firewall in Apple () menu > System Preferences > Security > Firewall are not set to:
    Block all incoming connections
    Allow only essential services
If you use another security/firewall software on your computer or router, follow this article or contact the manufacturer or check the documentation on how to open TCP ports 123 and 3689 as well as UDP ports 123 and 5353.
For more information on ports used by Apple products, see Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products.
    6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
If connectivity issues persist, quit and reopen iTunes on your computer. Then, quit and reopen the apps on your iOS device.
Note that Home Sharing cannot transfer or stream audiobook content purchased from Audible.com. See Audible.com for information on using their content with multiple devices.
    7. Restart your network router
Restart your home network router using the method recommended in documentation from the manufacturer. This may include disconnecting the power cord for thirty seconds or more.
Note: During this period, Internet services such as a VoIP-based phone will not work, and any additional routers may need to be reset in sequence.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Missing Drivers - Downgraded from Vista Home to Windows XP Pro SP3 - Lenovo 3000 N100 Notebook

    Hey,
I have a lenovo 3000 N100 as well and recently downgraded to Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3.
However, I have a lot of hardware drivers missing (yellow question mark) -
    1) Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
    2) Base System Device (listed thrice so I'm guessing there are three separate drivers needed)
    3)Network Controller
    4) Video Controller
    5) Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
I have no audio or wireless either. Lastly, I have spoken to lenovo and they asked me to download some drivers from lenovo.com. I did and also downloaded every possible driver for XP on the lenovo site but still had no luck.
I would really appreciate any help/guidance you can offer. I have exausted all resources at this point.
My email is xxxxxxxxxxxxx so feel free to reach out to me there as well.
    Thanks a ton.

  • During migration of Firefox from Vista computer to windows 7 computer, personal profile was lost and I don't know how to restore it - Profile wizard finds no pr

When data were transferred from my vista computer to the new windows 7 computer, the profile on firefox was not transferred to the new computer. Because the profile wasn't transferred, profile manager or just typing in the default location don't give a result. All the info on the mozilla web site that I've looked at dealing with profiles don't seem to work. I can probably retrieve and make a copy of the profile from the old computer, but how do I find out where to put it on the new one??

Starting session with finger print worked fine with vista but after tranfering to xp pro I get a message saying the computer name is incorrect. Any solution?

    François, welcome to the forum,
did you delete the finger print profile in Vista before you installed XP?
Try clearing the finger prints in the BIOS Security menu. You will then need to create a new profile from scratch in Vista.
    Hope this helps

  • Going from Vista to XP

I've had my N100 notebook since Vista came out. My version is the premium version and from my understanding, 1 gig of ram was sufficient.  However, I have soon found out that Vista is a terrible resource hog. My laptop takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes to start up. I e-mailed technical support (I cant even find their e-mail address anymore) and they gave me some hints on how to speed it up. It basically did nothing. Now my question is, is there a way that Lenovo can send me an XP disc? Im extremely dissatisfied with this OS. Have you guys experienced this?

I use a Lenovo 3000 V100 (T5200 1.6GHz) that came with Vista preinstalled.  Despite adding 1GB RAM to max it out at 2GB, Vista performance was what I consider very poor.  Having heard about the lack of enthusiasm in the business community to move to Vista and that manufacturers are increasingly providing the option of using XP instead of Vista, I contacted Lenovo support to find out what, if any, options I had.
To cut a long story short, Lenovo was willing to sell me XP restore CDs for the V100.  In past months, this might not have been the case as they were under pressure from Microsoft to push Vista.  The cost was $59 which I considered acceptable given that the restore set includes an XP Pro license.  My CDs arrived and having backed up the laptop, I "restored" it to XP.  I have been extremely pleased with its performance and reliability since then.  I would not go back to Vista on the machine.  I believe that the additional $59 was well spent.  One can argue that Lenovo should have provided the XP CDs free and the company may do that with new sales since the marketplace has changed its perception of Vista sufficiently to affect manufacturers' product offerings.  However, at the time I bought my laptop (July 2007), Vista was all the rage and I purchased it with full knowledge of what I was buying.  The choice to downgrade to XP was mine and I felt the cost was reasonable.
My only negative experience with the "downgrade" is that the Softex security software provided is an earlier version (4.00.26) and isn't quite as reliable.  However, the lack of reliability of the Softex cut-down software shipped as part of the system software has been documented elsewhere in this forum.  For me, it's only an inconvenience.  The solution is to purchase the full product.  I just haven't taken the plunge yet.
I'd call the Lenovo Support Line and talk to them to see what they would be willing to do.  The worst that could happen is that they say "no" and you are no worse off but I think you'll find that they'll give you options.
My experience is, of course, mine alone and may not be representative of what you find on you N100.
    Just my $0.02

    Check out this link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=VSTA-DWNGRD
Although the information specifies Vista Business or Ultimate as the only supported downgradable OSs, my V100 came with Vista Home and they still sold me the XP Recovery CD set.

    HI,
Is the ThinkVantage softwware included in the Windows 7 CD offered by Lenovo? Is this CD a recovery CD?
    Thanks.

Is it not available on the website under support?

It doesn't say it supports windows 7 but it's worth a go. All my HP software runs fine in windows 7. I have yet to upgrade my Thinkpad though.
