Google not working

I ran into a curious problem trying to use Google search. Found a solution. But not certain what caused the problem.
When I tried to refine a search (modify text in their search text box) the browser would not refresh on hitting return or their search button. I had to enter the updated search in the Firefox search control (at top right).
The problem did not occur when using IE 8 or Google Chrome. And I did not have the submit problems with other web sites.
I tried re-installing Firefox while maintaining bookmarks, passwords, history, but that did not fix the problem.
However when I completely uninstalled Firefox and then performed a clean installed the Google search page worked as expected.
It is possible that I had some malware, specifically the Flash exploit, as Firefox is my primary browser. I am not certain and only guessing Figure I should pass on my experience in case others run into the same problem.
My solution was:
0. Make certain have all login/passwords for websites.
1. Export my bookmarks to the JSON file.
2. Uninstall Firefox with "Remove my Firefox personal data and customizations" checked.
3. Re-install Firefox using fresh download.
4. Import bookmarks
5. Restore Add-ons.
6. Download Flash 10.1 and install (NOTE: Checked for but no additional add-on following this install)
Then Google search pages worked as expected.

Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

If you didn't delete the Firefox program folder then chances that it was malware are less. Most malware would survive deleting only the profile folder and in such cases a new profile could have helped as well.

  • Google+ Not Working Properly. Refreshing Google+ doesn't work

I have updated from Firefox 28 to Firefox 29 and Google+ is not working. I have uninstalled, cleared cache, reset the browser, started in safe mode and it still hasn't worked.
Firefox didn't show Google+ on all the computers I tried except a Pentium 4 computer with Windows XP.
Not loading images from Google+ is common. When you scroll down it still says loading and Hangouts has a 50/50 chance of actually showing up.

    Hello Daniel120201,
Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I've tried Google+ on a couple different machines with 29, including a Windows 7 machine and it seems to work without an issue.
Since it says loading could it be your wireless connection? Do you have another connection to the internet that you use to troubleshoot the issue.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Google Not Working on One Computer

As of today, I have had some issues regarding Google with the use of Safari. For starters, I have Google selected for my search engine. Yesterday, I was performing a search on Google and get this:
Today, the URL: www.google.com will not load. I can select another search engine (Yahoo! and Bing) and those work fine within Safari, just not Google.
In comparation, I can load Google and search Google Image via Safari on my iPhone with no issues.
What do you think could be the problem?
I have other computers on the network and they work fine. I also tried Firefox.
Google India and Denmark work, but not UK.

1 repair your permissions in UTILITY disk util.
2 try google.com using firefox if it works then it's safari bugging maybe a third app or plug-in conflicting but if it does not work then it's more general.
3 try google.com on another user (so you need to create a test user profile and use safari-google.com)
4 it can be permissions issues,
corrupted preferences, (so you need to delete the: com.apple.safari.plist but before deleting drag and drop in the desktop and restart your mac then try safari again that should do it)
    user profile issue.

  • TS1398 Google not working properly

Has anyone experienced problems with Google on the iPad lately?  It's not only slow when I choose it as my browser, but many times pages won't open.  I have to use yahoo or bing, which are faster and don't lose connection.  Thoughts?  It's happening often.  And sometimes it's worse when I use the search instead of just typing in the exact URL.

  • Google Not Working/Popups!?!

Hi I am running the most up to date version of Snow Leopard and Safari. I haven't been to any abnormal websites or anything, but for some reason sometimes when I'm on legit websites (even Apple) I will click a link and another window will pop up that fills my whole page, it never loads, but it's weird. I never have had that issue. I also have random websites load when I do a Google search (this happens a lot) when I'm trying to pull up legit websites. Like I said it doesn't happen all the time, but it still happens frequently. I have looked at the MacDefender stuff under Acitivity Monitor and haven't found anything.
Does anyone know what is going on? I don't know if I should get something to run and find it or what.
    Thanks,

I have the OSX/RSPlug-A trojan, but it's located in a backup on my time capsule. And I can't delete it because it says that you cannot delete items on there. So how do you go about getting rid of it?
It can't hurt anything as long as it stays where it is, but one has to wonder how it could be there and not on the hard drive that it's backing up.
On the off-chance you have to restore from time capsule, you just need to remember to remove it before using your browser.
That being said, it certainly sounds like that is what has been causing the problems you originally reported.  Are you positive it isn't on your hard drive, as well, or did you just forget to mention that you found and removed it?

  • Adobe Muse site not working in Google Chrome

Hi Guys, my adobe muse website www.focaldesigns.ie is not working in Google Chrome, i was advised to publish it again which I tried twice with no joy. Any help on how i can get the site back working in Chrome and on an iPad would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a mil, Claire

Hi Gaurav, thank you for taking the time to check this out for me. I appreciate it.
I've figured out If you open it in Chrome on a larger that 15" screen the site will open yet for some reason when I open it in Chrome it recognizes it as tablet and http://focaldesigns.ie/tablet/index.html appears in the tab bar -
I've tried re publishing the site in Muse and updated Chrome updates yet it is still not opening on a 15inch mac in Google Chrome, it is opening in other internet browsers perfectly. Any ideas?
Look forward to hearing form you.
    Thanks Again.

  • YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads.

YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads, if it's even loading at all.
I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working.

You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

  • Safari 8 hover does not work over google map location pins

    OS X 10.10.1,   Safari 8,  Java 8-25
I have always had little odd things not work when using safari on a large % of websites I visit,  the latest issues are
no response when hovering over google map location pins, travel site calendars not opening or responding to mouse, drag and drop
show the item being dragged several inches away from the actual pointer, some links don't respond, missing items
or odd layout with print or pop ups going off the screen on some website pages, zooming in and out does not help. I have none
of these issues when using Firefox or Chrome. Been using Safari for 4 years now.

Have you tried a PRAM and an SMC reset? They're longshots, but don't take long to try.
    PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Have you run Apple Diagnostics from the disc(s) that shipped with the computer?
Since the problem occurs in all browsers, it still sounds like a video hardware or video RAM or maybe a software issue having to do with layers and rendering.
The map layers aren't getting rendered, or if rendered, aren't getting displayed.
Do you have any browser add-ins? Pop-up blockers?
Since you have two video chipsets, it's possible that might be related to the issue.
This non-Apple website talks about switching between chipsets on the various MacBook models so equipped, and points to a free 'donationware' program for the menubar that lets you easily switch between chipsets:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/macbook-pro-unibody-faq/macboo k-pro-unibody-switching-between-graphics-processors.html
Trying to think of other software that might help pinpoint the problem, does the iPhoto Slideshow 'Shatter' template work? Working properly, it 'shatters' images into several color layers and rotates them in and out to build and deconstruct photos.

I just did a system update and now google chrome and the silverlight plugin do not work. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both numerous times, restarted, and checked for updates again but nothing works. What's going on?

  • Safari not working with Yosemite- incompatible with google search too

Ever since I upgraded my macbook pro, Safari has been slow.  In the past 2 days, it's more than slow - it's impossible.  I am able to get to pages I have bookmarked or get to links in email documents - but every time I try to do a search using the search bar in Safari, it hangs.  Sometimes I get a list of possible websites (after a few minutes) but if I click on any of those, Safari just hangs there and won't go.  I even had to use Chrome in order to generate this question in the discussion groups. Does anyone have any suggestions other than using an alternate browser.   Is it possible that google and Safari on Yosemite are incompatible? I did try using the "Develop" menubar option and chose DuckDuckgo as the search tool and it worked a bit better.
This is now the 2nd big issue I've had with Yosemite -- it totally would not work with my Adobe Photoshop Elements program -- I spent hours on the Adobe forums and discovered that 100s of others were also having issues.  It turned out to be a problem with Yosemite and the trackpad.  Adobe finally came up with a temporary plugin that allows Elements (and other Adobe programs) to run.
Suggesions on Safari other than ditching it and using Chrome?

    Try a Safari reset.
Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items.  Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site.

  • Google talk video plugin does not work any more with Firefox 4. When clicking on the video chat icon, I am repeatedly asked to install the plugin, and it never works.

Google talk audio/video plugin used to work fine on Firefox 3, but does not work anymore on Firefox 4. Every time I click on the video chat icon on google talk, I am asked to install the plugin, even if I have already installed it before. The plugin works properly on the latest version of IE on the same PC.
Thanks for your help. I do not want to switch to Chrome or Opera, but if this bug is not fixed, I will have to.

Not sure if installing IE 9 did it or not but I now see the camera in IE, FF and Chrome. Could be Facebook fixed the problem also.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • Possible Solution to Google Search Bar Not Working/Safari Not Loading Pages

    Hello Apple Forums,
I have recently encountered a possible solution to a problem with Safari. The one in which Safari fails to load any page associated with www.google.com. Especially the Google Search Bar—a feature I use frequently.
After browsing through the forums about the Google Search Bar issue, I took my knewly gained knowledge, and decided to do some diagnosing for myself.
This is what I have done so far to try and solve this issue:
Run Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Cron Scripts
    Cleared the following caches:
    System Local Computer Cache
    System VM (Swap) Files
    Curent User Cache
    Current User Icon Cache
    Internet Explorer Download Cache
    Page History
    Web Site Cache
    Temporary Files
    Safari Downloads List
    Form Values
    Page History
    Recent Searches
    Site Icons
    Web Site Cache
    User Cookies (used by Safari)
    Finder Recent Applications
    Recent Documents
    Recent Folders
    Recent Servers
    Recent Files of AppleWorks 6
    Disk Utility Disk Images
    Preview
    QuickTime Player Favorites/Recent
    REALbasic Projects
    TextEdit
    VideoLanClient
and Other caches of Acquisition Current Downloads
    Acquisition Recent Searches
    MSN Conversation History
    Vicomsoft FTP Client Icon Cache
All of the above runnings of Cron scripts and clearings of Caches were done using Mac Pilot version 1.1.5 (yes the one on the site is an updated version, but I have not downloaded it yet). If you decide to use this program to clear caches, I advise not clearing the Installer Receipts under the System section as Installer Receipts are used to correctly repair permissions. I do not clear Find File Indexes either, because I use the Find File feature quite frequently on my computer and I do not want to have it re-index files all the time (perhaps I'll do it every few months or so to refresh what I've got on the harddrive). Remember, all the information given in this paragraph is relative to Mac Pilot version 1.1.5.
In addition, I have also repaired permissions using Disk Utility 10.4.4 (v145.7) (make sure you restart your computer after you repair permissions). I have taken out items in /harddrive/library/StartUpItems as well as taking out items in /harddrive/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in /user/library/Internet Plug-Ins and in user/library/Caches (restart your computer after taking out or putting in items in these locations).
As of now, all the information mentioned above about trying to fix this problem have NOT worked.
What HAS WORKED for me was tinkering with my 3rd party firewall—Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). Under the Protection Settings, I HAD Enable Active FTB support, Enable Stealth mode, Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected), Enable UDP Protection (with Protect outgoing UDP connections, Allow access to essential services, and Protect a range of UDP ports 1 through 1023 selected).
What I CHANGED in Protection Settings was DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Upon deselecting that information the Google Search Bar feature in Safari WORKED practically instantaneously. Before hand, anything I inputted into Safari and after hitting Return on the keyboard just wound up hanging there.
Just to be sure, all tests were performed on:
IMac G4 800 Mhz SD Mac OSX 10.3.9 with ALL the latest Software Updates, Except Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 and iPod Updater 2006-01-10
I have a cable internet connection with ISP Time Warner Cable (RoadRunner) using a SurfBoard SB4100 Cable Modem on an AirPort Extreme Base Station (Apple Base Station V5.6)
Interesting side note: I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1 Ghz Mac OSX 10.3.9 Laptop running on the same network (although it has an airport extreme card as opposed to the regular airport card in the iMac) with ALL the same latest Software Updates, Except iPod Updater 2006-01-10. The Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.4 does not come up on Software Update on the Laptop and I can not find it on the harddrive using a name search in the Finder Find feature. It does not show up in Applications folder, so I do not know if it is on or active on the Laptop.
The LAPTOP IS ABLE TO USE ALL GOOGLE FEATURES without DESELECTING Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic DESELECTED). Why this is apparent I have not officially confirmed.
What I do know is that I have tried to Uninstall Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) with the appropriate uninstaller but it FAILS during the uninstall (I wanted to uninstall and reinstall, it appears the program became corrupted). What I did to possibly circumvent this was to search for the phrase 'Personal Fire" using the Finder's Find feature (Search for items whose name contains 'Personal Fire') and deleted all the files that came up related to Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48). I then reinstalled Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48) since then, and it continues to have the problem with Enable suspicious activity protection (with Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic selected).
    What I have not done:
    Updated Prebinding
    Run TechTool Pro version 4.1.2
    Install Combo OSX 10.3.9
Initialize HardDrive with complete reinstallation of OSX 10.3.9
    To Summarize Possible Solution
I've tried many possible solutions, what appears to work best as of now is to DESELECT Enable suspicious activity protection (making sure Deny outgoing suspicious traffic and Deny incoming suspicious traffic are deselected) under Protection Settings in Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48).
One could try deselecting something similar in any firewall application other than Norton Personal Firewall Version 3.0 (48), to see if it is suspicious activity settings in firewalls that cause the problem.
    Any comments/feedbacks are extremely welcome.
    Hope It Helps!

    Hello tr:
Welcome to Apple discussions and thank you for your very very thorough post.
Your instincts to delete anything named "Norton" were right on the mark. Norton software is POISON to Macs running OS X. An additional software firewall is, IMHO, completely unnecessary. Turn on the built-in firewall in OS X - it is robust. In fact, if it is already on, there may be a conflict.
Go to Symantec's web site and use the uninstaller you should find there to get rid of the Norton stuff. After you do that, do a "find" on Norton and Symantec to be sure it is all gone - the stuff hides everywhere.
