GPI dll for C code functions

Hi,
I'm trying to make a call C code functions inside DIAdem, I've been investigating and so far the best option seems to be the GPI .dll registration. Later on I installed all the GPI ToolKit 11.0, but most of the features in the example are not working in DIAdem 2012 SP1, also I tried to work with the GPI wizard but then i found out later that only can be executed in Visual C++ 6, (software that I can't access).
So I was wondering if exists a relative easy way to make the call of the functions inside DIAdem. Or even recieved some help with GPI tool, since I barely understand it and most probably I'm missing something.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Naoa,
I believe I've heard that there will be a GPI api compatible with DIAdem 2012 SP1, but I do not know when-- hopefully Walter Rick will comment on that.  Another option would be to add a COM wrapper around your C code and call it straight from a DIAdem VBScript.  Another option would be to use the LVRuntime object in a DIAdem VBScript to call a LabVIEW VI that wraps the C code.
Are you wanting to make use of a static library of C functions or a DLL written in C?

  • Call a dll for Labview: Function not found in library

    Hello,
    I am trying to call a very simple .dll form Labview. I compiled the .dll for x64 using Visual Studio 2010, because I am using Labview(64-bit). I did everything exactly the way I read it in several Tutorials. But the "Call Library Function Node" doesn't create a popup menu with the avalible functions like it is supposed to do. The Import Wizard doesn't find any functions neither. What is wrong with my .dll?
    I added a block marked 'extern "C" ' into my source file, but it still won't work.
    Thanks

    You need to define an entry point to the DLL
    BOOL APIENTRY DllMain( HANDLE hModule,
                            DWORD  ul_reason_for_call,
                            LPVOID lpReserved )
        return TRUE;
    Also add extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) to your functions

  • DLL C/C++ syntax for Call Library Function Node

    Hello,
    I am interested in calling DLL from Labview and found several intersting tutorials on the Call Library Function Node. One interesting tutorial is Building a DLL with Visual C++ http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3056
    One can notice in the example presented in this tutorial that the parameters that are outputs of the exported function are of type pointers. And I am curious about the theory behind this.
    I looked also at the example in LabVIEW Call DLL.vi and it seems that all outputs are pointers to the desired data type.
    I tried to write a short code where I assign a new value for one parameter in the export function. But this value is not updated in Labview. To make it clear: assume 50 is passed to an input parameter (on the left side of the Call Lib func Node). In the function, i assign 100 to this variable and expect this value on the output in Labview (right side indicator of Call Node) but the output remains 50.
    I am trying to change my code but i get errors in linking (compiling is ok) that I cannot understand. LINK : fatal error LNK1168: cannot open Debug/DoseDLL.dll for writing
    Error executing link.exe.
    I don't get any error with the code provided in the above tutorial   so i am trying to reproduce a similar code...
    Thank you

    Hello,
    Please find attached the source code in C, the DLL and the vi.
    you notice in the C code that I set variable dose=100 and this is the value I would like to export as an output for labview (right side of Node) for whatever value in the input (i put 50 for input dose). In the current code, the same value of input dose (50) is passed to the output (i assume it has to do with the reference ?). The idea is that variables dose and rate should be set/calculated in the DLL function.
    Thank you!

  • GPI Dll Driver for DAC-Bock with in- and output

    Hello,
    i've a little problem creating a Diadem GPI Driver Dll. When i program a driver dll that only has outputs (output from the gpi-block to diadem) every thing works fine. But i need a driverblock with both, in- and outputs. This block has to calculate outputs depending on the inputs and will use an external dll for this calculation. I still get no output from the block i programmed. Are there any examples for a GPI block that does this, because i didn't found one.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
    DIAdem offers three types of DAC blocks, input, output and processing. In most cases you will use just input or output blocks in your DAC scheme. However if you want to implement a special algorithm that calculates some signals depending on some inputs, you have to use the process blocks. You can implement all three kinds of DAC blocks using the GPI wizzard.
    The GPI Wizzard will guide you through the process of building a framework for your driver. At one point there will be a dialog to define the names of the input signals, output signals and process signals. If you enter a name for a process signal here, the wizzard will generate a framework for a DAC process block. This block will have both, inputs and outputs. Once you have finished the wizzard, you can implement your algorithm in the ...ProcessValueGet() function.

  • How to manage one wsp and dll for multiple clients in farm environment

    1. There is a product which is developed using C sharp , jquery,CSS and sharepoint object models which have been packaged into .wsp file. Whenever we introduce new functionality to the product we used to branch the
    previous code as a version , say Version 1.0 and new functionality of the product will in another solution. This is how we are managing the code in TFS as versions. Each newer version will have new functionalities. We do not give latest functionality for all
    the clients. Each client is having its own version of functionality. Technically in order to access the functionality, the wsp solution should be present in the solution repository which is available in SharePoint central administrator site. This solution
    will be deployed on the client’s site. We are following the above process in SharePoint standalone installation where we used to purchase dedicated server per client and installed sql, SharePoint foundation 2010 as standalone installation and adding the client
    related version of the code to the solution repository. Later host on the site which is created for that client purpose. This process is same for all the clients where we purchase individual server for each client .
        Now we want to host our product in farm environment of sharepoint foundation 2010 where we are going to try 3 level architecture.
    • SQL Server-In this sever we are going to install sql server 2008R2 standard edition. Which should serve the database service for all the web applications/sitecollections which we are going to create in Web front end server.
    • Application server- In this server we are going to install the sharepoint as farm and will install search server express for serving search functionality for our product
    • Web front end server- In this server we are going to add this server to Sharepoint farm which we have created in application server. Here we are going to create web applications and site collections for all the clients.
    In this scenario how to manage multiple versions of same wsp solution?
    Another major issue w.r.t the architecture of the product and new approach for client deployment as follow.We have CSS, jquery files for serving the functionality.These files have been mapped to 14 hive folder.If any changes we do one of the jquery file or
    css file which is meant for latest version and not for old version, then how to manage this new functionality for that particular css or jquery file in 14 hive folder, since there is only one 14 hive folder. What is the best practice to make this happen? Another
    thing is, how to manage dll files for individual client?

    It sounds like you have a farm scoped solution at work. In that case you can only have a single instance of it per farm, you'd have to branch each version so they appear to be seperate solutions entirely (thus ruining your clients upgrade process).
    Bluntly i don't think a single farm can manage all your user environments.

  • Setting up use of a DLL for Multithreading operations.

    Hi all,
    I have been working the past few weeks converting a slow part of our labview code into C++ and hoping that from there I can use CUDA to further optimize and speed up the process.
    I just finished writing everything in C++, and the program works well, but it is already much slower than the old code. This is due to the fact that the old code could multithreading and use up the entire processing power of my processor, while my current code does not seem to want to do this.
    I know that there are many settings from labview to visual studios to even my code itself to allow for mutlithreaded operations, and allow them to happen safely.
    I was wondering if anyone could help me identify these settings so I can move forward with my optimization.
    I will tell you what I have looked at and done so far:
    First I made sure that my program takes all the Array Handles and Numeric values, and assigns them to local variables in my program. I believe this makes my program reentrant safe.
    Then in VC++ 2008, I added some settings to my project settings: Under C++ Optimization, I have Maximize Speed(/O2), enabled intrinsic functions, and favored fast code.
    In code generation, I have my runtime library as Multithreaded debug dll.
    Then in labview, the DLL is nested 2 SubVIs deep. The main VI has no special settings that I am aware of, but the first SubVI is set to time critical priority, and reentrant execution, while the final subVI which holds my DLL is set to subroutine, and reentrant execution.
    FInally my DLL has run in any thread selected, and debugging turned off.
    Am I doing this correctly? Are there parts missing in my program that I need to write to allow for this sort of functionality?
    Thanks!

    Deturbanator wrote:
    Thank you for your reply.
    I assign parameters to local variables for exactly the problem you described, shared resources. For example, this program in particular works on a video file, and completes a process on a frame by frame image. I assume that if I do not copy the values to a local variable, the array handle for the image will change between different instances of the program, and this might be bad if we are at first analyzing frame 3, and then suddenly, it changes to frame 5.
    Is this not something I should be concerned with, does labview take care of this already? It seems there is a lot of magic happening behind the walls and options of labview
    And I agree, Labview is quite good, and I did not expect a big boost from converting my code to C++. However I see no reason it should be any slower than the existing labview code, if most of the functionality is just rewritten in C++. The real reason for the code conversion, was to eventually write certain parts in CUDA, which I felt would be easiest once the code is in C++.
    I guess my real question is what are the "hoops and rings" i need to jump through to match the labview efficiency?
    thank again!
    It's still not clear to me what you expect by the use of local varaibles in terms of parallel execution. Or maybe you are not talking about function local variables but module local variables outside the function???? If that is the case, then you have probably totally misunderstood the fundamentals of multithreading safe code.
    When LabVIEW calls a function through the Call Library Node, it will make sure that all the parameters passed to that function stay valid for the duration of the call. Once the function returns to the LabVIEW diagram LabVIEW considers it safe to do with the buffers as it likes, including moving them in memory, resizing them, reusing them for other stuff, or simply deallocating them. So saving such a parameter to a function local variable makes no difference, since the function local variable will exist just as long as the parameter is guranteed to be valid. And saving it to a module local variable is either creating a pretty sure race condition or even crash, if you just save the reference, since the buffer the reference is pointing to will not be guranteed to stay valid after the function returns. And if you save it to a local variable by copying its contents it will be safe, but a performance problem, as you create a copy of the data.
    So what are you really doing here? Some example code could certainly help to understand what you are doing, as I have a hunch that what you call a local variable is in fact more a global variable although you may declare it as static and make it in that way local to your code module (but still global to all functions in that module).
    Generally if you want your C code to process data asynchronously however (meaning working on it after the function returns control to LabVIEW, then you can't avoid to copy the buffers.
    As to the hoops and rings to jump through there is no simple explanation. In fact there have been entire books written about multithreading, and more importantly correct multiprocessor programming.

  • Call a special function in the dll using Call Library Function Node????

    Dear all,
          I am calling a special function in the dll using call library function node. There is a input parameter that it is a enum type in this function. I don't know how to deal this parameter for calling this function.Has anybody solved this problem?Please advise!
          I am appreciated of you anytime.

    Most of the times an enum is just a U8/U16/U32, internally so probably you can call it with just a U8/U16/U32 or something. For the correct value you have to look at the definition.

  • Call multiple functions from same dll with call library function

    hi,
    i am working on a project in wich we need to make a UI to read out a sensor network.
    the UI should be usable in any project, but every node needs a different piece of code depending on the type of sensor with wich it is equipt.
    so i need to be able to call different pieces of code when i need them, and still be able to use the UI in future projects with possibly new types of node we now don't have.
    so someone told me to use DLL's, cause then i would be able to call the code i need the moment i need it.
    but i have never worked with DLL's (just learned about this option 3 day's ago) so i have a question.
    i know i can dynamicly change the DLL i call with the call library function, but can i dynamicly change the function i call from that DLL ?
    or do i have to put a new call library function for each function i want to call, even if its from the same DLL ?
    kind regards,
    stijn

    nazarim wrote:
    ok so there is no (easy and ubderstandable) way for me to dynamicly change wich function i want to call from a certain DLL.
    but now i started wondering, the path on the call library function is not ment to dynamicly change a DLL
    but it does work so, if i am carefull, can i use it for that purpose or will labview give me a series of problems once i start using it in larger programs ?
    Thepath on the Call Library Node can be used to load a different DLL. Obviously since you can't change the function name your other DLL would have to export exactly the same function name and of course with the same parameters. This is seldom the case so it is not the main use of the path input to the Call Library Node. It's main use is as indicated to load DLLs at runtime rather than at load time of a VI. So that an application can run even when the DLL is missing, until the moment the functionality from that DLL is needed.
    If you can make sure that all your DLLs export the same function name with the same parameter you can use the Call Library Node to call into different DLLs through the path input. If however you would need to call different function names you would have to resolve to some DLL which does do the dispatching and invocation using LoadLibrary() and GetProcAddress(). But unless you need to go with DLLs for some reason using the Call By Reference Node can give you an even more flexible approach.

  • Memory leak in dll with an imaq-function

    Hi,
    I am currently writing a dll which uses the imaqImageToArray function.
    Of course this function allocates new memory every time it converts a picture, and as I convert 180 pics a second and the Program shopuld run for hours that is quite a problem for me.
    The solution should of course be the function free(void* MyPointer). And if I use malloc to allocate some random memory, instead of the imaqImageToArray, this works perfectly.
    However when I call free() to release memory allocated by the imaqImageToArray function, the dll/LabView-Program will crash.
    So I wonder what function the imaq-Functions use to allocate memory and how I can get rid of it again. Is there another imaq-function?
    Thanks already!
    Greetings
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    sorry for the misunderstanding. I use the imaqImageToArray function inside the .dll. The Code Hence is a c-code.
    #include "extcode.h"
    #include "nivision.h"
    ... some stuff/the dll-function etc....
    uint8_t *Pointer;
    Pointer = (uint8_t)imaqImageToArray(MyImage,MyRect,&Rows,&Columns);
    if(Pointer!= NULL)
         free(Pointer);
    ... other stuff
    Sadly I can't find a detailed description of the function. I assume the void* Pointer returned by imaqImageToArray points to an Array, however I am not sure wether it points to a usual c-array or a LabView Array, meaning:
    typedef struct {
        int32_t dimSize;
        double Element[1];
        } LVArray;
    That would explain why free(); won't work.
    I think I got a step further though, as I found a function in the "extcode.h" called    DSDisposePtr(void *p). That should be the equivalent to free() for LabView Datastructures.
    However even though I have included everything from the cintools directory explicitly to the project, the Linker complains about a not found externic object. Anyone knows which .lib files I need to include where to be able to use that function?
    Thanks

  • Calling existing C++ dll from native code causes an ACCESS_VIOLATION

    Hi everyone,
    I'm having issues creating a Java app to call an existing c++ DLL. I've done extensive searching for a solution and found lots of goodies, but nothing to fix my problem yet.
    I've gone through the JNI tutorial and created my java class, used javah, and created my native code according to the tutorial.
    I'm new to dealing with DLLs so I'm not sure if there are some steps that I'm not taking.
    The issue comes when I run the program. I get an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.
    the DLL I'm trying to call makes a call to a device on the USB port. I also have the source code and header files for the DLL but thought it would be easier to just have to deal with the already built DLL.
    After putting some print statements in the native function, the violation comes when I try to call the function in the external DLL. The DLL itself loads correctly (as far as I know).
    Here my native method that will load the external dll. I got the code to call the DLL method from:
    http://goff.nu/techarticles/development/cpp/calldll.html
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL
    Java_OCPMControl_OCPMSetPixelCount (JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jint pixelCount)
    //load the dll
    HINSTANCE ocpmSerialDLL = LoadLibrary("OCPMSerialDLL");
    /* get pointer to the function in the dll*/
    FARPROC myDLLFunction = GetProcAddress(HMODULE(ocpmSerialDLL), "OCPMSetPixelCount");
    /* Define the Function in the DLL for reuse. This is just prototyping
    * the dll's function. A mock of it. Use "stdcall" for maximum compatibility.
    typedef void (__stdcall * FUNC)(enum ePixelNum);
    FUNC MyFunction;
    MyFunction = FUNC(myDLLFunction);
    printf("Calling function\n");
    /* The actual call to the function contained in the dll */
    MyFunction(PIXEL256);
    /* Release the Dll */
    FreeLibrary(ocpmSerialDLL);
    When I run the program, I get the following error:

    Is there something else I have to do to tell the JVM that the external DLL call isn't an Access Violation?
    Would it be easier to use the source files instead?
    Thanks to anyone who can help me out here!
    Scott Campbell

    Thanks,
    The problem has been solved. I wasn't linking the dll properly to access the external DLL and thus, my native DLL was looking for methods that it didn't know how to find. which was easily solved by adding a few options when creating my native dll.
    Here is the link I found to solve the problem incase anyone else has issues like this. It is regarding implicit v.s. explicit linking to external DLLs in using visual C++.

  • Need U2ltdate.dll for Cyrstal Reports for Enterprise on 64 Bit systems

    I am working through migrating older reports from a very outdated version of Crystal into a newer version and trialing Crystal Server 2013 with Crystal Reports for Enterprise.  The only problem I am running into is that I have added the u2ltdate.dll to the correct folder inside of windows/system32 and in the program files(x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/win32_x86 and the win64_x64 as well just to be sure but I am still getting the following error in crystal reports: "UFL 'u2ltdate.dll' that implements this function is missing."  Does anyone know what I am missing or if I need a different dll for 64 bit?  Thanks!

    hi Warren,
    you may wish to look into replacing the formula code that calls this dll with built in date functions instead. please see your online help for more info on Date() functionality.
    also, please see this post from Don Williams on using this dll in a 64 bit program. it deals with a 64 bit vs app but I am assuming that the necessity to recompile to 64 bit would be the same when trying to utilize the dll in 64 bit enterprise.
    in this post Don also mentions that the source code is no longer available for the .dll and in that case you'd need to look at switching the formula syntax from referencing the dll to using built in functions.
