Granting roles permission to run packages created by somone else

Hi there,
I'm using Oracle 9i and I've written a package that has several functions that need to be run by a role other than the owner. I have 2 roles I granted execute permission on the package itself but when I log in to our app as another user with one of those granted roles, I get the 'insufficient privilege' error.
My DBA mentioned something about doing a pl/sql wrapper. I did a search under wrap in the oracle index and came up with a wrap utility. If this is what he meant, I don't understand how that helps with permissions if the wrap util just encrypts my package. How do the roles get permission to run it then?
Thanks
Evita

If you call the stored procedure from a PL/SQL block, there will be a problem that PL/SQL does not, by default, recognize privileges granted through a role. You can either make a direct grant or you can change the PL/SQL block to specify authid current_user.

  • What is the GRANT or permission setting that allows viewing of package body

    For purposes of SOX and security/audit control, we log in under our network id's in our production environment. We have sourcecode compiled into Oracle seeded schemas ( APPS ) so that scheduled jobs are able to run with submitted from the Oracle Applications environment. We don't compile code into our personal network account areas.
    I know how to GRANT EXECUTE privs so that we can execute a package in another schema, but what I want to do is to be able to view the sourcecode in another schema. Compile into APPS but be able to see the package body from my network id schema account.
    I can't seem to find what the correct permission is anywhere. Granted I can look at DBA_SOURCE to get to it, but I want to use a tool like SQL Developer or TOAD to look at the code in a more presentable and easier to debug manner.
    Any help ?

    I guess you need GRANT DEBUG ON SCOTT.PKG TO U

    Can I revoke this permissions once I grant?
    You can use DROP and REVOKE commands to do the opposite.
    USE [msdb]
    GO
    ALTER ROLE [SQLAgentOperatorRole] DROP MEMBER [TestLogin1]

    Hi,
    there is no such table MTL_ONHAND_DISCREPANCY or synonym in Applications 11.5.10.2. Is that custom table created in your db?
    After dropping this table from APPS schema 'Re-create grants and synonyms for APPS schema' went thru fine.Its correct
    This table does not exist in INV schema in 11.5.10.2.
    Could be possible that the consultant could have created this table in INV and APPS schema by mistake or whatever.Yes, with the same name, there might be table in APPS SCHEMA. When you run recreate grants and synonyms, adadmin tries to create synonym for that table in APPS schema. since there is object available with the same name in apps chema, you got that error.

  • Account is SysAdmin - but Non-SysAdmins have been denied permission to run DTS Execution job steps without a proxy account.

    Hi,
    I have a SQL Agent Job that executes an SSIS package.  However when I manually execute the SQL Agent job from SSMS I get the following seemingly common error:
    "Non-SysAdmins have been denied permission to run DTS Execution job steps without a proxy account."
    However, the job owner is a member of both the SQL SysAdmin role, and also a member of the operating system's Administrators group.
    The SQL Agent Service is running under Local Service (not something within my control unfortunately).
    I have found many posts suggesting setting up a proxy account etc, but that seems to be for the case where the job owner is not a sys admin.  To be clear, the job owner IS a sysadmin.
    This is occurring in the Production environment.  I have two other, seemingly identical environments that are working fine, so i am wondering if I have missed something obvious.
    Any idea what I've missed?
    details:
    Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
    SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4000.0 (X64)    Enterprise Edition
    Note - the jobs were migrated to the broken environment by scripting them from Env 1, with If exists, drop, create etc.
    Thanks
    Guy
    Guy

    Obviously, as soon as I post this I figure out the issue:
    In the script i had provided for migrating the job to the new environment (to which I have no access) the DBA replaced the @owner_login_name value with a different login.  The account he used does have SysAdmin privileges  but for some reason
    changing the account in the script did not correctly update in the job.
    On opening the job in SSMS it appeared to have the correct owner account, but using GUI to look up the specific account and adding it this way, while appearing to make no difference, has in fact solved the problem.
    My assumption therefore is that updating the @owner_login_name when scripting the job is not the same as actually editing the job owner itself.

  • Granting "shutdown" permission

    For the past several hours, I have scoured the internet searching for an answer to what I thought would be a very simple question. Perhaps it is still a very simple procedure ... I am just at my wits end, though, as to how to do this.
    What I want is for a "normal" user to be able to shutdown the system. I am running Solaris 10 on x86. I have tried the following:
    Creating a new group, adding the users to this new group, and giving the group execute permission on /usr/sbin/shutdown. Did not work. I get the message "only the user root has permission to ... blah blah blah"
    Then I tried usermod with the following parameters:
    usermod -A solaris.system.shutdown [username]
    didn't work.
    I also made sure to newgrp [shutdown_group] before executing the shutdown command. Didn't work. (Did this after I added my users to the new shutdown group)
    I have also created new roles (using the roleadd command) - didn't work. I have tried granting "All" permission and roles. I have tried granting "System Admin" permission. All to no avail. I have tried combinations of all of the above; I've tried all of them a second time and rebooted after each and every attempt thinking that maybe - just maybe - all I needed was a simple reboot. This was at 12:00 this afternoon. It's now 6:00.
    Regardless of everything that I have tried, I continuously get the error message, "only user root has permission to execute /usr/sbin/shutdown"
    What simple thing am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Caleb

  • Granting role to user error

    Oracle 10.2.05
    Linux environment
    I just granted a role to a user, but the user does not have privileges base on the role.
    Here is what I did:
    First create a user (db_user) using system id
    Second, create role schema_admin_role
    Then run the script to grant privileges to the role
    (SELECT 'grant select, insert, update, delete on ' ||owner|| '.'||table_name || ' to schema_admin_role;' from dba_tables WHERE OWNER = 'another_schema';
    Then run
    grant schema_admin_role to db_user;
    The problem:
    When db_user tries to update table X own by another_schema, he gets not sufficent privileges
    But when I run (select owner, table_name,privilege from dba_tab_privs where grantee = 'SCHEMA_ADMIN_ROLE'; ), I see all the privileges owned by this role.
    Any solution from your end will be appreciated.

    I think what was suggested was that you use SQL to generate the grants on each and every view, that is, you use SQL to generate SQL where the SQL being generated is "grant select on view_name to role'"
    If you users to connect to Oracle you have to create usernames for them though if the users only connect via an application the application might run just as one user and access to the application is controled via application security. The control on the application can be via Directory Services such as OID or MS Active Directory. User access to Oracle can also be controlled via OID.
    To connect to Oracle you can use OS authenication (not recommended), usernames with passwords, or via Advanced Security Option which supports single sign-on products like Kebros or Oracle Internet Directory etc....
    Example using SQL to generate SQL
    How do I find out which users have the rights, or privileges, to access a given object ?

  • How to grant role to user

    How can use Oracle Developer2000 Form6 to grant priveledge and role to user in database (oracle 8i) from Trigger of Form6. Is there any built-in about this statement?

    PL/SQL doesn't allow you to issue DDL commands directly, but it does provide a utility package called DBMS_SQL. This allows you to create dynamic SQL statements at runtime and execute them. The code you would need are as follows:
    In declaration section -
    v_sql varchar2(200);
    v_cursor number;
    v_result number;
    In the code body -
    v_sql := 'GRANT <ROLES> TO <USER>';
    v_cursor := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
    dbms_sql.parse(v_cursor, v_sql, dbms_sql.native);
    v_result := dbms_sql.execute(v_cursor);
    You can ignore the value of v_result as it is not a DML statement. Also you could build your SQL string up dynamically using variables from your form ie:
    v_sql := 'GRANT '||:FORM.ROLE||' TO '||:FORM.USER;
    Hope that helps!

  • Find particular database role permission on all the databases of an instance

    Example: 50 databases are running on an instance. I want to find datareader permission of ABCDE account, on which of the databases it exist?
    Please provide me a customized script to find it.

    Hi K735,
    According to your description, you want to find databases where a specific database role of a specific user exists. To do this, you could execute the stored procedure below by proving a value for each of the two parameters (@databaseRole, @user)  to
    specify the database role and the user as the following example: execute findDatabaseRole 'db_datareader', 'testUser'
    USE master
    GO
    CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.findDatabaseRole
    @databaseRole VARCHAR(200),
    @user VARCHAR(250)
    AS
    DECLARE @DBuser_sql VARCHAR(4000)
    DECLARE @DBuser_table TABLE
    AssociatedDatabaseRole VARCHAR(200),
    DBName VARCHAR(200),
    UserName VARCHAR(250),
    LoginType VARCHAR(500)
    INSERT @DBuser_table
    EXEC sp_MSforeachdb @command1='SELECT USER_NAME(b.role_principal_id) AS AssociatedDatabaseRole, "[?]" AS DBName, a.name AS Name,
    a.type_desc AS LoginType FROM [?].sys.database_principals a

    a.sid NOT IN (0x01,0x00) AND a.sid IS NOT NULL AND a.type NOT IN ("C")
    AND a.is_fixed_role <> 1 AND a.name NOT LIKE "##%" AND "?" NOT IN ("master","msdb","model","tempdb")
    ORDER BY Name'
    SELECT AssociatedDatabaseRole, DBName,UserName,LoginType
    FROM @DBuser_table WHERE UserName=@user and AssociatedDatabaseRole=@databaseRole
    group by AssociatedDatabaseRole, DBName,UserName,LoginType
    GO

    Hi Usman,
    The solution is :
    1. Edit the files updateConfigProperties.properties and
    prependConfigProperties.properties in the installation directory:
    Replace the hostname with the value present during the initial installation.
    Note that the installation directory is the directory where SAPinst creates its log files.
    The original hostname should be reflected in the names of the profiles created by the installation
    (/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_<Instance>_<hostname>).
    If the log files of the initial installation are still available the original hostname can also be found in the file jengine.properties in the value of the property box.number. This file is located in the installation directory the initial installation
    2. Restart the installation.
    This has to work,it worked for me.
    P.S: Give points,ok.
