Grub cant read lvm after upgrade

I have grub2 installed on /dev/sda5. On /dev/sda4 partition I have lvm and logical volumes for arch-home, arch-root, arch-swap and arch-boot. I then manually point grub.cfg (on /dev/sda5) to load kernel and initrd from the lvm volume arch-boot. This way arch can update the boot partition without messing with my other operating systems. This has worked fine so far. This morning I updated arch. I first removed the community-testing repo, and then did pacman -Syy, pacman -Suu. I then tried to reboot which failed.
When I try to boot I get the error message:
no such disk
no such disk
error you need to load the kernel first
When I go into the console of grub2 and type ls I see my partitions: (hd0,4) (hd0,5) etc.
I run
insmod lvm
insmod ext2
without errors. I use lsmod to see that lvm is actually loaded. But I can still only see the partitions. Before I used to be able to see logical volumes when doing ls in grub2.
When I run ls (hd0,4) I get the error: partition hd0,4: unknown filesystem.
So for some reason grub2 cant read lvm anymore. I tried using a grub rescue disk (super grub2 rescue), but I get the exact same error, therefore I dont think that reinstalling grub is going to change anything.
I should point out that I have also successfully mounted my lvm partitions from a rescue disk so I dont think that anything is broken there.

I tried reinstalling grub anyway.
Mounted my archroot lvm partition and mounted it under /mnt. Mounted /dev, /proc, and /sys with --bind option. I then chrooted into /mnt.
I mounted my grub2 partition as /mnt/bootpartition from inside the chroot.
Also mounted archs boot partition /dev/vg/archboot as /mnt/boot from inside chroot.
Then
grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/bootpartition/boot/grub
which worked without problems.
Then
grub-mkconfig -o /mnt/bootpartition/boot/grub/grub.cfg.
This return the error: /sbin/grub-probe: error: no mapping exists for vg-archboot
But it still creates a grub.cfg.
But when I reboot I have the same problem. The lvm partition does not get recognized.

Good afthernoon, I cant read my gmail mailbox after upgrading to ios 7 on my iphone 5. I remove it, restarted the phone and reconfigure my gmail account, update to IOS 7.0.2 but the problem persist.

The problem was solved editing/removing labels from gmail account. IMAP and POP3 was enabled, I disabled the last one (POP3) to.
From any browser go to your Gmail Inbox/configuration/label, try editing o removing unnecesary labels and check if you are using POP3/IMAP.

Card reader slow after upgrade to 8.1 on ENVY h8-1520z desktop

I have an HP envy H8 – 1520 Z desktop with 8.1 Pro.
After upgrading to 8.1 Pro from 8 Pro my card reader takes a long time to bring up the data on the card from 15 to 25 seconds even if there are only three files on the card. I checked for driver updates on Windows and HP websites and was told I have the latest driver available.
I tried plugging the reader into a different USB connector on the motherboard and it worked great the first time, after starting the computer the next day the problem was right back.
I tried a USB adapter for the SD card and that also worked well but if I leave the adapter in the computer and just remove the card the same thing happens the next day after restarting the computer if I take the adapter out each time it works fine

I understand you are having issues with your SD card being slow to be read from after you updated your computer to Windows 8.1.
I am curious have you tried re-formating the SD card on the new OS?
Have you tried other SD cards to see if the issue is consistant? Have you tried a clean profile on your computer? To do this simply make a new profile/user and see if the SD card still takes a while.
Do you have an Anti-Virus running on your computer? If you do try disabling it to see if the issue persists.

Yesterday I called Apple Corp, got thro' to Customer Relations & then a Senior Engineer.. After trying all the usual stuff he downloaded my Logs etc..

Airport Utility cant find anything after upgrade to 7.3.1

After a very stressful morning getting my TC working with my Express as a remote i was then prompted to update my firmware to 7.3.1. when the TC restarted it disappeared from the Airport Utility as did the Express and I can no longer get it to see either of them. Any Ideas please

If you reboot the TC and keep an eye on the Aiport Utility, does it appear for a short time before disappearing?
If so, it sounds like you've been affected by the same issue as many of us have, which appears to be linked to the recent updates. Some people have had success by resetting their TC to default settings and reconfiguring it. There's a few posts on this on the first page which might give you some more info.

SMB share read-only after upgrade to 10.6.4

since i upgraded my MBP to 10.6.4 i can access our samba shares only in read-only mode.
i'm connecting with the following string:
cifs://myUsername@servername/aFolder/anotherFolder/myFolder
this connection used to work since 10.3 or 10.4 up to 10.6.3, but now i'm getting a read-only volume ("You can only read" in the finder's get info window).
any hints what i could change to make things writeable again?

maybe an important additional info:
the SMB share is mounted under /Volumes using my local MBP user/group setting.
on the unix box where this share is located, i'm using a different username ("myUsername"), hence the cifs://myUsername@... in the server address string.
since this connection always worked until 10.6.3 i have no idea if this share used to be mounted for root/admin (or other) - i never checked those permissions/owner settings before.

loging in on the remote server (using Terminal.app and "myUsername" + password) i have full r/w access on myFolder and all subdirectories. it's only the mounted share on the MBP that is read-only.

Issue with Adobe Reader/IE9 after upgrade

Hi,
We have an application that displays an interactive PDF (generated using Forms ES2) in an IFrame within the browser window (IE). There is a button in a different frame that passes a String[] to this PDF using the "postMessage" Javascript method on the PDF object. The setup was working fine all these years in Win XP + IE8 + Adobe Reader 9. But when we upgraded to Win 7 + IE9 + Adobe Reader X, now on click of the button, when the pdf.postMessage is getting executed, IE9 crashes with error "Internet Explorer has Stopped" working. Has any one else encoutered this kind of problem before?
I tried doing some research. The issue seems to be with IE9, but I couldnt figure out why this is happening. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Can you open Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

Boot to the install disk.
Choose English - continue.
Utilities>Reset Password.
Choose the startup volume - usually Macintosh HD.
Then choose Administrator (root) and the user name.
Then give the root user a password and save it.
Quit reset password and restart your computer.
At the login window choose Other.
For user name put in "root" without the quotes.
Then enter your password and login.
In the root user double click on the hard drive icon and then on the Users folder.
Double click on the affected account folder.
Double click on the sparse.image or sparse.bundle.
If it asks for a password this is the password for the original user account.
Enter the requested info and continue.
It may give you a message that it is damaged but still open.
You need to copy the contents out of the damaged file vault image.
You can create a folder on the desktop and drag files into the folder.
It will only make a copy.
If you don't have room for another copy of the entire folder on your computer you need to option drag whatever you have already copied out of the damaged image, from the image, to the trash and empty in order to free enough space.
Once the image contents have been moved out of the image into another part of the computer you can now go to System Preferences>Accounts and delete the affected user.
Then click on + and create the Account again - make sure you set it as Administrator.
Then drag the contents of that folder, newly created in Users, into the Trash and return your saved contents to the folder.
Then log out and into the account.

Recovering bookmarks and reading list after upgrading to OS X Mavericks; no help from Time Machine

I upgraded to OS 10.9 Mavericks today. Everything seems fine thus far, except for Safari's bookmarks and reading list. Bizarrely, ONE of my old bookmarks was left on the bookmarks bar, while all other bookmarks (except those pre-loaded by Apple) and the entire reading list are wiped.
I'm aware of the path for finding the plist (~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist) — however: Time Machine won't let me go back to before the OS X upgrade. The windows all backups before the upgrade are completely black. As far as I can tell, this goes for all files, not just those in the Library.
My browsing history was preserved. Also, I head iCloud enabled for Safari.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

While in Time Machine, press the key combination shift-command-C. The front window will show all mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and navigate to the files you want to restore.

Superdrive does not read discs after upgrade to 10.5.2

Hi just upgraded to 10.5.1 (via purchased Leopard pack). NO problems all ran well for a week.. then I installed upgrade to 10.5.2 and now my superdrive refuses to recognise blank CDs and DVDs, but seem to read some burnt media (but not all) which could be read before...can anyone help?

Illustartor CS5 cant open svg after upgrading to Mavericks

I upgraded to OSX-10.9 Mavericks. Now, I cant open svg files in illustrator CS5. I could do it before upgrading to Mavericks. Whats the problem?

If you do not have a backup then you will lose your photos ad all of yoru files sooner or later - hard drives, computers, software and humans fail and with no backup yu are 100% guarenteed to lose your phoots and files sooner or later - yhou need to purchase an external drive 2 1/2 times the size of your main drive and start using Time Machine all the time ASAP
For this a simple copy will works - but you must always have a backup if you care about anything on your oputer

Cant open ITunes after Upgrade

Must have upgraded my ITunes recently because ITunes will no longer open unless I download the new Quicktime 7.6. My company computer is running MAC OS 10 with no option for Leopard. APPLE! You idiots! If your upgrade is going to render a customers ITunes unnusable without a system upgrade you need to put a warning in the upgrade message so customers can choose not to run the upgrade!!!! Not everyone can run out and get the newest hardware and software.!!!! Now I cannot open my ITunes and can't go back to the old. Not to mention that my $260 ipod started to skip before it was even a year old and according the the discussion boards there was nothing to do to fix it. Get your stuff together Apple!!!!

First, Apple product developers do not participate here, so rants posted here will do little good since the rant probably will be seen only by we your fellow users.
Second, why can you not upgrade to QuickTime 7.6? If it's just a matter of you not being able to find an appropriate version for your version of Mac OS X, just run Software Update on your computer, or look here:

QuickTime 7.6 is available for Mac OS X versions back to and including 10.4.11, which is also the earliest version that the current iTunes release will run on. So there shouldn't be any problem, at least not as far as an available compatible version is concerned.

What version of Windows does he have? Did he have his iPod working before, or is this a new iPod? If so, the system requirements for the iPod are clearly stated, on Apple's web site and, I believe, on the iPod's box. If his system doesn't match the system requirements of the iPod, that's not Apple's fault.

Cant open documents after upgrade

I recently updated the "Pages" app on my iMac. I have created two documents since then and saved them. When I go to Pages, these documents are "greyed" out. They are there, I can see them, but they can't be selected to open. How do I open these and why did this happen. Looking through some of my other documents, I have noticed alot of them are grey as well and can't be opened. Especially PDF files. What is going on? I REALLY need those documents. 5 hours worth of work are saved in that unopenable space!

If you recently "updated" Pages, you probably upgraded to Pages 5 and have Pages '09 moved to your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages '09 can not open anything created by Pages 5 unless you exported the files to Pages '09 or Word .docx formats.
Mavericks also "locks" older unused files.
Are you sure that this is not what is happening.
Or did you delete all the necessary apps when you migrated?
Thirdly do you have them stored somewhere else that the Mac can't locate and those are just aliases?
