GUI_UPLOAD in Background jobs

Hi,
I have a requirement where in the a text file is received from an external application at the end of each day. This text file has to be picked up by the SAP system and SAP transaction MFBF has to be updated. The customer wants this entire process to be done without any user intervention. A background job needs to be scheduled at the end of the day. However the problem is GUI_UPLOAD cannot be used to pick up the text file, because of the Background job. Any suggestions are welcome.

You cant use GUI UPLOAD or DOWNLOAD function in backgroun jıb.

How to avoid use of function module in case of background jobs?

Hi ,
I am working a file tranfer interface .Functionality is to extract file either apllication or presentation server , and process the file through bapi , send the result in their respective server. This program should run through batch jobs in background mode.
I am using following function module :
SUBST_GET_FILE_LIS : Get the file list from application server
TMP_GUI_DIRECTORY_LIST_FILES : Get the file list from presentation server
GUI_UPLOad : to extract file data from presentation server
GUI_downLOAD : to download data to presentation server
in case of background job these function modules will not work.... so how to resolve this issue...
what are the methods we can apply?

Hi,
This FM is used to get list of files from Application server (will work in Background). This cannot be used to list files from presentation server. There is no way , by which you can process presentation server files in background mode.

I would like to run a report in Background job , for this i need to pick a file from front end services(Local drive or share folder)
Is there any alternate FM=>GUI_UPLOAD to upload data from front end services or any other solution for this?
I am getting error=> "No batch" and " Cannot perform frontend function in batch input mode"

Hello Prasad,
IF you keep your file on a shared folder on your front end, you can access it via OPEN DATASET if your application server has access to that path.
You can test it out by asking Basis to try and access your front end file from the app server itself.

Background Job assigment with variant in SM37 , for Textfile uploading

Dear all,
Im using the BAPI_PO_CHANGE to update the existing schedule dates in Purchase Orders,
for this the po's , item, schedules, delivery dates(Need to update) from a Textfile into the internal table
and passing that data to bapi function module, it works fi9 in foreground and the output is a classical report
with Corresponding messages through RETURN.
i need the same to run in background with a variant, but after assigning the background job in SM36,
i found that the job assigned got CANCELLED in SM37.
I hope everything is clear, so kindly revert back with solution.

Hi,
You should understand that background job will be executed in application server and there will be no gui or access to presentation server available.
You should upload your file to application server through tcode CG3Z.
See F1 help for OPEN DATASET / Search SCN for sample codes for OPEN DATASET.
You should change the code so that it can be run in both modes using the system variable SY-BATCH.
If it is space use GUI_UPLOAD, if it is X use OPEN DATASET.

Run the Report as a Background job and Get the Output in Excel in Local PC

Hello Gurus,
I have one following requirement.
One should be able to run the report as a background job and it should be possible to get the report in Excel format, also when running the report in background. The excel report should have the same information and look as the current SAPreport.
Please provide some solution.

GUI_* WS_* Function In Background, CSV Upload
GUI_* and WS_* function modules do not work in background
When scheduling a job in the background the appropriate statement to read in your file is OPEN DATASET, and the file must be on the file system that the SAP server can see.
At anytime, a user can switch of the Personal Computers even though the job is still running in the background. Therefore GUI_* and WS_* function modules are not designed to work in that way, as they need to access your personal computer file.
To choose the correct download method to used, you can check the value of SY-BATCH in your code,
if it is 'X' use OPEN DATASET and if it is ' ' use WS_UPLOAD.

What is the difference when we use upload, ws_upload, gui_upload function modules?
UPLOAD, WS_UPLOAD, GUI_UPLOAD, are used in BDC concepts. ie., Batch Data Communication.
Batch Data Conversion is a concept where user can transfer the Data from non SAP to SAP R/3. So , in these various Function Modules are used.
UPLOAD--- upload a file to the presentation server (PC)
WS_UPLOAD----    Load Files from the Presentation Server to Internal ABAP Tables.
WS means Work Station.
This is used upto SAP 4.6 version.
GUI_UPLOAD-------    Replaces WS_UPLOAD. Upoad file from presentation server to the app server. From 4.7 SAP version it is replaced.

How you upload the data from text file to sap internal table? From my knowledge its by upload or gui_upload.
How you download the data from sap internal table to text file?

Background Job Scheduling with variants in IS - Public sector

Hi,
We run auto write off using scheduled job activity (SM37 -Program : RFKK_MA_SCHEDULER). There is an variant containing Main Transactions that needs to be included / excluded for write off.
The variant values are changed / updated with additional main transactions and when we run the batch jobs the new variant values are not getting picked or used. If we run the program independently i.e FP04M and use the variant, the new variant values are being handled.
I am not sure what is missing in the SM37 background job that is defined though the variant values are runtime parameters and should have automatically be used after it undergoes modification in the next job exeuction.

Background Job : To download file to windows server

Hi Gurus,
Here we have to develop a program thats creates a csv file in a network shared folder( a windows folder), We have to schedule it as a background process. We cant use gui_upload function module, since it doesnt support background jobs.
Please share your ideas.

I think you can have a network shared folder on application server.
you said that it is a comma separated file.
1) Using TCODE CG3Z, upload the flat file to application server , remember to copy the path (it contains file path aswellas name).
2) Using DATASET read the filepath along with the name and read each line into workarea and split at ',' into fields.
3) Then append those fields to internal table.
using the FMs job_open, job_submit and job_close you can go for background scheduling.

I having problem while uploading pricing conditions data.i want to upload more than 10000 thousand records.
in selection screen,we are provinding file path (Presentation server) and using fm "gui_upload" updating the content into internal table and updating pricing document using fm "RV_CONDITION_COPY".
My question is.
while upadting more than 10000 round records im getting time out dump error so im trying to execute this program using background job but im getting error like "Cannot perform frontend function in batch input mode".
Anybody help me on this issue.

Its not possible to use GUI_UPLOAD in background mode as the SAP system is completely independent and wont allow any GUI based operations. You can try transfering the file to application server and then try running the report as a background job.

Can u tell me what the issues can i rise to client while i prepare the functional spec.
Issue:
In SAP Standard the bulk process orders must be confirmed before the goods issue posting.
The XXXXX process requires that at first the goods issue posting will be done and after that the bulk process order will be confirmed with the correct dispatch quantity.
Now we need a job/program that selects the bulk deliveries with goods issue and confirm the adapted process orders.
At deliveries with reference to a sales order one can find the process order number in the sales order.
At deliveries with reference to a stock transfer purchase order there is no link to a bulk process order in the system.
Now the job on the P42 finds the right process order on the basis of material and batch number.
Pl help as early as u can

have you used any GUI_UPLOAD or WS_UPLOAD or UPLOAD function modules ?
I mean how your uploading legacy data to the internal table? if you used uploading from presentation server,then you can NOT use the program to run in background. either you have to place the file on application server or use the program in foreground mode.

Reg: File Extraction from SAP Queries via background job

Is it possible to Extract a file to the presentation Server by running the ABAP Query's through SQ01 as a back ground job to generate a file automatically without running it manually.
I have tried recording the query's thru SQ01 with the File store Option to download it to Excel on the Presentation server.I have used CAll Transaction for SQ01 in the Zprg and submitted that Query to be able to download that Query in the mentioned path .The Zprg was executed via Background job.The file is extracted to the presentation server when the Zprg was executed via Foreground,but its not getting Downloaded to Excel Via Back ground job.
Please provide me the solution.

if you are scheduling any background jobs it should be out of any gui interface.. like gui_dowload , gui_upload// ur need to replace then with cl_gui_fronend_services Class
or u have a option of writing file to application server in background using open dataset syntax.

Problems creating background job for program (job open, submit and close)

Hi gurus,
im trying to start a background job using the FM BP_START_DATE_EDITOR to show the start date to the job or if it's imediate. this FM it's working fine, after call it im opening a job, submiting it and call the job close FM and the job close FM creates me the job.
The problem it's when i go to the sm37 to see the job status the job has been canceled, and the job log says that i have to give a start date to the job.
What i dont understand it's either the job is imediate or i choose a date to start the job always gives me this error...

Scheduling one background job inside another

Hi All,
Is it possible to Scheduling one background job inside another.? i.e In my Z program I am calling job_open, job_submit, job_close and to execute one standard report in background. And after that I am executing my Z program itself from SE38 as Program->Execute->Background->Execute Immediately. Is this logically correct? I am asking this because I am not getting the desired result

Hi, I am calling a Background job in my program. I am using JOB_OPEN, JOB_SUBMIT and JOB_CLOSE FM to start a job. My need is to pass a value to the job program(job program doesnt have any selection screen values). Is their any way without creating variants each time to pass value to it.

You can first use JOB_OPEN which returns job number. Then build ranges or parameters to use SUBMIT to call the program.
Eg: SUBMIT RM06BB20 AND RETURN
