H/W monitor problems on P7N SLI

Hello Forumgoers,
First of all I want to thank the gods that MSI has such a helpful support system like this. You guys rock. Second, here's my problem:
Recently my h/w monitoring software has been giving me strange readings on my CPU. I use nVidia System Tools (v. 6.03.12), MSI DualCoreCenter (v. 2.0.5.5), and CoreTemp (v. 0.99). What happens is that sometimes the software reads my CPU multiplier at 6x instead of 9x, giving me a Core Clock of 2Ghz instead of 3Ghz. Now I don't think my CPU is actually acting up, because the BIOS consistenly gives me the correct readings when booting up (i've been checking incessantly lately since this problem arose), but there was one time that even the BIOS read the CPU multiplier at 6x. DualCoreCenter also reads the voltage on my CPU a bit lower than usual: 1.13 as opposed to 1.2 (normal). Again, the BIOS has only shown these strange readings once, but my monitoring software consistently presents me with these data. I've tried a few things, such as updating my BIOS from v1.1 to v1.3. That didn't help. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling my chipset drivers to no avail (I'm using the drivers from the MSI website: nForce v9.91). The only things that have changed recently with my system that I can think of is using my TV as a monitor (previous display was 15" CRT), allowing me to pump up the resolution, but I would think that would affect my GPU rather than my CPU. I also just recently updated my video drivers (ForceWare v190.62), but again I would think that would affect the GPU, not the CPU.
Any suggestions? I know that as long as the BIOS reads properly then my system should be fine, and through PCMark05 I'm seeing that my system is not lacking in processing power. But my h/w monitoring software has been accurate for over a year until the past week, and I'm just trying to figure out what would make it change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more specs that I haven't provided either in this post or in my sig just let me know.
Thanks,
SpacemanSpiff

Looks like the power saving features of your CPU are kicking in (EIST, C1E or both).

1.13 as opposed to 1.2 (normal).
These power saving features also cause VCore reductions.
Put your CPU under full load (Prime95) and use CPU-Z to watch the values.

  • Strange booting problem on P7N SLI Platinum

I wonder if someone here can shed any light on this issue that is driving me mad... I currently have Windows 7 32 bit installed on my HTPC. The following is the specs of the kit:
    P7N SLI Platinum (BIOS 1.3)
    5 Gb Ram (odd I know  )
    Nvidia 9600GT 1Gb RAM
    1.5 Tb hard drive
    LG GH22L DVD-ROM drive
The problem is the following: I want to upgrade/change Windows 7 to 64bit (otherwise I can only use 3Gb of RAM) but when I try to boot up from the DVD-ROM the system briefly checks the drive and then continues to boot up from the HD. I have changed the boot order prioirity to boot from the DVD first and then the HD. The Windows 7 DVD will boot up on other PCs so it is not the media. I have gone as far as connecting an USB DVD-ROM, changing the boot priority on the BIOS to boot up from the USB device but the bl%%dy thing continues to boot up from the HD.
It gets stranger still... I have changed the boot order priority and excluded the HD from the list and chose "no" from the "boot from other devices" option, and the HD still boots instead of the DVD-ROM!!!!
In desperation I used all the entries on the boot priority menu and chose the DVD-ROM drive on all of them (i.e. no HD) and still the HD boots up.
I give up - any ideas?

Pull a drive from one of the other PCs where the disc works and install that one onto this system you're asking about.  Check to ensure that the DVD drive is first boot source.  Try to boot.  You could also do this--as the system boots, tap f11 repeatedly and a boot menu should appear....choose the DVD drive.  Let us know what is going on.
I tried the F11 tip (thanks very useful) unfortunately it did not work either. I opened the HTPC and disconnected the HD and re-booted, the damn thing did boot from the DVD-ROM then as one would expect when the it is the only drive... What follows is as strange as the original problem - I reconnected the HD and voila the DVD-ROM booted!!! I am installing the OS as I write. Unfortunately I'm still at a loss as to why I had a problem in the first place and I will not know until I complete the installation if it is fixed for good or not.
    Thanks for your help anyways.

  • Problem with my p7n sli platinum

    Hello,
i just bought the P7N SLI Platinum for my new system and use an old ATI X1800XT as my gpu.
after finished installing all the hardware, then i tried to install a fesh copy of windows xp...
the problem is, every time my computer tried to login into the windows.. a blue screen will appear..
i suspect the problem is due to the x1800xt..therefore i tried to use it with my old intel motherboard but it can login into windows perfectly well..
does anyone know what the cause of this problem? is it because i'm using ati card with nvidia chipset?
    please everyone help me!!

    STOP: 0x0000001E
        * There is insufficient disk space on the drive on which you installed Windows.
        * There is an outdated or incompatible third-party driver (or drivers) installed on your computer -- for example a faulty video driver.
        * There are system BIOS incompatibilities.
Finally, my system is now working perfectly but I'm still not sure what is the cause for all of this madness.
I didn't change any of the hardware or the drivers.
I don't think this is because of the insufficient disk space because after many series of failure with this board, I have tried to install a fresh windows copy using the same hard drive with my previous motherboard and everything seems to be running smoothly...it could finish the installation process..and safely loading into windows...
Then when I tried with this board again, still no improvement at all...i tried again..again...and again...until i was frustrated enough to made some random changes in the bios settings and FINALLY...it works!!..
I have no idea what were the changes that I've made in the bios...maybe it was just my luck....but I do notice the change in my cpu vcore..before this, it was running at 3.0GHz with default vcore of 1.080v...but now, the default vcore has suddenly changed to 1.250v with the same frequency of 3.0Ghz...and I couldn't find any way to return the voltage back as before..is this normal? I thought E8400 with E0 stepping should have lower vcore...isn't it?

  • P7n sli bios upgrade problem

hi every user , plz help me. I bought P7n SLI Platinum 5 month ago with C2D E8400 (E0). so i upgrade to bios v1.3 and i can use me cpu. everything fine but when i run cpuz v1.45 it show chipset number is "650i" not "750i". anybody know how to correct it. but everything is fine no problem occur. i just want to change to 750i. plz help

It's more than likely that version of CPUz is too old(the sb750 chipset isn't identified until 1.47). Download the latest version, 1.51.  Run that and see what is stated.

  • New P7N SLI Platinum Boot Issue with PS/2 Keyboard [Solved but RAID problem now]

This issue taken me back !!!! Never thought I might face issue with a PS/2 Keyboard.
Here it is.. I just assembled my new system...
    P7N SLI Platinum Motherboard
    E8400 CPU
EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600 GT Video Card
    Creative Soundblaster Audio Card
So, before I boot, I connected good old PS/2 Keyboard. The POST Screen comes up that says Press DEL to enter BIOS Setup... but then, it reboots.. indefinitely... I have no idea why it does that. However, if I boot the PC with no PS/2 Keyboard connected, POST screen comes up and that's it.. (no reboot). So, you see, I cannot proceed further in anyway.... I cannot go beyond POST without a keyboard, but then with the keyboard it reboots indefinitely... kinda catch 22 situation
Any suggestion / ideas that anyone can offer here???

Hello Folks... it took long time to "solve the issue that had to begin with"....
I purchased a cheapo Celeron processor to get into  the BIOS and update it... but it didn't even work... I couldn't boot at all. So, I called MSI and they asked me to RMA it. They replaced my MOBO with the latest BIOS - which was good news
So, now, I'm able to boot  - good news...
Now, this is an upgrade for me.... from my previous MOBO. My boot drive was RAIDed (RAID 0). So, now, I will have to RAID my drives again and run Win XP repair. I was able to RAID my drives and all good... now, I went into Windows installation and did F6 to install NVIDIA Raid.... but, here is my problem, when the prompt asks me to input the floppy drive, and when I did it.... it re-prompts me to put the floppy drive again... I see that the floppy drive is read... but, for some reason it doesn't detect the files in there properly....  I downloaded nVidia C72+MCP55 SATA RAID / AHCI Driver (For floppy driver) for windows xp 32-bit and copied the sataraid folder contents into the floppy. Now, here I am stuck again....
    Anybody experienced this problem?

  • MSI P7N SLI-FI LGA 775 nForce 750i startup booting problems

    Hi there!
My PC is about 1.5 years old.
Now last 3 weeks I'm having some frustrating problem when starting my PC.
Issue: my computer starts now only when there is 2 Gb total memory on motherboard.
If there´s 3 Gb or 4 Gb memory on motherboard, then I won´t even get a Bios startup screen.
(but i can see and heard that PSU and CPU fans are working)
I tried all memory modules on, separately using only one memory module. All memory modules and every slot seems to be ok.
I also try Memtest86 (with one memory module Separately) no errors found.
Motherboard PCI-E slots and graphics card are also ok.
(because my PC works like a charm when there´s only total 2 Gb memory on motherboard)
Why my PC only starts when there´s 2 Gb memory on motherboard?
Any help will be appreciated deeply!

I know the 7600GS doesn't recommend a PSU with a lot of power(15 - 17 A), but you're running two of them in SLI.  Your PSU only has 18A on the +12V rail. This could very well be your issue.  Below are some good single +12V rail PSUs, Corsairs and PC Power & Cooling.  You can also look for Silverstone single rail PSUs, but they tend to be pricier.  If you can't get anything other than split-rail, post back and we'll try to make some recommendations.

  • Msi p7n sli platinum ram chips problem

ok i have a msi p7n sli platinum mother board, i've had it now for the past 2 - 3 years. I finally got around to upgrading the ram from 2xcorsair xms2 ddr2 1024mb ram chips to 2x corsair dominator 2048mb ram chips.
i have checked the motherboard specs the voltage and MHz arent a problem.
But when i use 2 of the new chips my computer wont load the boot screen a 10th of the time. When i use 1 of the new chips it runs all the time. I was thinking it maybe a problem with the bios, i have reset it several times to the correct voltage, as it doesnt automatically some times.
anyone have and idea what i can do to fix this.

Please give full system specs --> >>Posting Guide<<
    Try running the RAM at 800MHz 5-5-5-15 1.8V 2T.

  • MSI P7N SLI problem, help!

Is there a way to get a bios that has the quad core multiplier issue fixed on a P7N SLI-FI board? I mean, c'mon a fix has existed for the other p7n boards for months now. Isn't there one for my specific board??? I'm about to flash a SLI Platinum Bios into my board just to see if it works, 'cuz I'm loosing it already  . Any help would be greatly appreciated since I can't move my q6600 from it's stock settings, 3600 mhz is a "no go" with my cooler and there seems to be an fsb hole between 1200 to 1600 mhz on my board, I haven't tested every possible fsb setting but I don't want to, I just want to run my cpu at the 8x multiplier  :(

That bios didn't fix the multiplier issue. It's already flashed...
I was thinking that you have missing MP.

  • HELP!!!!! P7n sli platinum cd-in problem.

    Dear msi members.
I've got a p7n sli platinum board in, but now the cd-in (audio-in) (you know that 4 pinned thing you can connect a dvd drive too) connector on the board is in the way of my gtx 260, "they collide" now my question is, i'm pretty good at soldering, is it safe to unsolder the port completely?
as this way i'd have room for my gfx card.
If it's not. be sure to let me know how i can get this thing out of the way please.
    Thanks in advance, Scorp.
P.s. Thats seriously my only issue, if i remove that thing everything will fit, (and i could mostlikely unsolder it carefully and resolder it should i need to rma). it's just the question that if i remove it completely does the board still run properly?

hello i have the same problem, i recently bought gtx260 to find out the JCD is on the way . I'm using my 2nd Pci-E slot at the moment. i was  reading the forums and find out that this has been affecting many users with similar components, and they say they can remove the plastic as posted on this link http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?p=31163282 i
m not sure if that would void warranty or not

  • P7n SLI post problem

Just installed my P7N SLI using Intel Wolfdale 8400, Hitachi 500g, dual 800 Corsair 1 g sticks (total of 2 g), BFG 8800gt and sony DVD-R.
I power it on which goes fine it detects the processor, the memory, and even the USB items. Then it stops and just ideals there. Everything is checking out as ok. But it just sits there it doesn't let me into the BIOS at all. Very strange never had this problem. Any thoughts? Tried moving the memory around tried dropping it down to one stick, tried resetting the CMOS tried just about everything I could think of. Planning on calling support tomorrow see if I can catch an answer on here first.

    Ramius,
I have the same problem. This is my thread...https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119615.0
I plan on taking the mobo back to the store I bought it from tomorrow morning. If you get a resolution please make sure you post it here because there are a few us with the same problem.
Im seriously considering exchanging mine for a different mobo but I really like this one and wish it would work.
    Thanks!

    Hello,
I have a mainboard MSI P7N SLI Platinum that doesn't boot. I connected it out of the case, tried different CPU's, different PSU's, different graphic cards, different memory modules ... all without success.  When I connect the PSU a red LED goes on, when I try to boot it a blue LED goes on and the CPU cooler starts turning, nothing else happens, no beeps, nothing on the monitor ...
I also tried downloading the latest bios, put it on a floppy and named it AMIBOOT.ROM, than connecting an internal floppy drive and press ctrl-home while powering on (found this hint on the forum).  Nothing happens, nothing on monitor, no activity on floppy drive (even tried different floppy drives and cables  )
Does anyone know something else I can try?

I had this same exact problem today. All seemed to work but nothing on monitor.  I first thought my graphics card is the issue, but the fan was turning so i decided not to think that was it.
I had a dvi to vga adapter on the other end of the  graphics card cable, so i was thinking if that was the issue. I changed the cable to dvi/dvi and WOW, it worked!!!
I dont know if this is the MSI mother board issue or my graphics card CLUB 3D 8800gt, but that fixed it and it has been on for 5 hours now.
But what i came here to ask was the on board LEDS. Is it normal to have RED and BLUE led?
The red led looks like it's a wrning of some kind but it comes on when you turn on the PSU.  So is it ok to have these lighting?
