  • Need to Re-install Windows on Mac with boot camp

I purchased a Mac Pro from someone about 6 months ago that already had a 2nd drive with Boot Camp and Windows XP Pro running on it. Today for the first time when I booted into Windows, I got an error message saying that I "may be a victim of software counterfiting" and that my version of Windows is not an authorized version in my region.
I have an a genuine Windows XP Pro disc with seriel that I want to now re-install over the bad version. The problem is when I try to run the CD for install, I get an error message stating that I cannot install from the CD because the version of Windows I am currently running is newer than that on the CD.
So my question is, how do I uninstall the bad version of Windows and re-install the version off the CD? I know I will lose my files and programs but everything is backed up and I will reinstall everything when I get back up and running.
    Thanks for the help!!

You can format from Windows CD if that is what you mean by "windows side."
Updates are usually done while boot in the OS you want to 'upgrade' while custom is only done booted from other media.
With a Mac Pro you could easily install in many different ways than if you only had a laptop or imac.
But you can't "pick yourself up by your own bootstraps."
I don't even like upgrade of SL while booted in Mac OS.
If it was my Mac I'd install Windows 7 and make better use of your hardware and the performance afforded.

  • Installed Windows on Mac with Boot Camp and did something HORRIBLY WRONG

Please please PLEASE tell me someone can help me!!
I tried installing Windows XP Pro on my MacBook today, I tried following the instructions but none of the windows popped up like they showed in the instructions. When the Windows Setup (blue screen) popped up, I selected Partition 3: BOOTCAMP to install it on. Then everything installed fine, but I can NOT get out of Windows now at all. I've tried restarting it, logging off, turning it off and back on, and holding the option button and NOTHING is working. Nothing that was on my Mac is in the Windows, and I have no idea at all what to do.
Please, tell me someone can help me undo this!! Thank you so much!

    THANK YOU SO MUCH
I put in disk 2 as a last resort and tried rebooting it again, AND IT WORKED!!!
I'm taking windows off right away, i am NOT risking that again!!
Or not mess with it at all, either way THANK YOU!!!

  • Can windows 8.1 in boot Camp display in target display mode on an IMac?

I have given up on Windows 7 running in Boot Camp on my 15" MacBook Pro and displaying it on my 27" IMac via thunderbolt and Target Display Mode.
The FAQ concerning Target Dsiplay Mode farily clearly says Windows 7 won't work.
But it  does not say Windows 8.1 will or will not drive Target Display Mode via thunderbolt.
    see:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219, question 29
Has anyone found that running Windows 8.1 in BootCamp on a MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012 will display via a thunderbolt cable in to Target Display Mode on a late 2013 IMac 27"?
I don't want to go to the trouble of installing Windows 8.1 and trashing my otherwise functional Windows 7 Boot Camp installation unless it is going to display properly on my late 2013 27" IMac running OSX 10.9.3 via thunderbolt.
    Thanks in advance!

no, tdm doesn't work under bootcamp regardless of which windows is being used, imho i don't think it will ever work under bootcamp

  • Cannot install Windows 8.1 via Boot Camp on MBPr 13" Early 2013; tried almost everything.

    Hi guys,
yesterday, I decided to install Windows 8.1 on my Mac using Boot Camp. I tried to install it, but the first attempt ended into booting to the screen, where it says "Cannot find any bootable device" or something like that. So I googled it up and then tried the EFI Boot. The EFI Boot booted into the Windows installation properly, but I cannot choose the partition I want to install it on. I tried partitioning it in Disk Utility using Tuxera to NTFS, I tried formatting it in the installation itself, always restarted between the processes, I tried to delete the partition and create a new one in the installation, but no luck. I am still stuck on the error "Cannot install Windows on MBR partition. Please, choose a GPT partition". I have a 256GB SSD disk. I browsed the problems and solutions for 3 hours, but no luck. None of the solution helps. The only solution that would work I guess is if I don’t boot into EFI, but into the BIOS installation. But when I do that, I get the "Cannot find any bootable device", so a dead end here. I also tried the tips where they say to remove the USB stick when the Windows installation starts, but didn’t help either.
I am installing using a bootable USB drive, I do not have a Superdrive and cannot even lend it or something like that.
I am really desperate, can anyone please help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    DavidKop_

Some people have been successful installing 8.1 (me, for instance) despite it not being supported. However this seems to be hardware dependent.
I would have expected the normal WININSTALL option to be available on a Bootcamp-created USB, not just the EFI boot option.
It really depends on whether Bootcamp is creating a hybrid MBR when it creates the Bootcamp partition. Some later model Macs do not. On the Macs that do not create the hybrid MBR Windows may install in EFI mode.
If you remove everything and stretch the Macintosh HD back to the full size of the disc again then reboot and when the system restarts begin the Bootcamp installation again but do not let it restart at that time, you can then run the following code in the terminal and report its output we will be able to see if a hybrid MBR has been created (this is after the partition has been created by Bootcamp, but before it reboots).
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

  • Problems with Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp

    Hi,
I have recently received a 21.5" iMac; it is the higher-end of the 21.5" standard configurations. The problems I am having, I believe, specifically relate to drivers.
Firstly, I get no sound whatsoever in Windows XP SP3 (boot camp); I have tried removing and reinstalling the drivers from the Snow Leopard install disc, but no success. I have no yellow question marks in the device manager window, but the absence of audio still persists.
Secondly, I cannot gain access to the special functions of the Apple wireless keyboard in Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. Again, I have tried reinstalling the drivers, but no success. I have read an Apple support document which states that the keys are only supported on late 2009 Macs; I own one of these Macs, so that cannot be the problem.

I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard. But my Snow Leopard install disk is too old for Windows 7, so attempted Boot Camp install of drivers fails.
I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

  • I bought macbook pro at cash america used and loaded with windows 7 ultimate by boot camp.My questions is it has mountain lion loaded but original ower has name with password so how can I reload so I can sign on as administrator for downloads and upgrades

I bought a 13 inch macbook pro9.2 at Cash America with windows 7 Ultimate with boot camp program.
The Mac op sytem has Mountain Lion installed but the previous ower has his name and password attached to it and can only use as guest.
My question is how do I get around this to be administrator to reload software so i can use mountain Lion, and not loose the windows op .

If you reformat the partition that contain Mountain Lion and reinstall Mountain Lion, it should not effect the Windows pratition.
Have said that I suggest you backup everything you might want to save just in case.

  • Windows Update on Windows 7 (x64) on boot camp fails

Running Windows 7 x64 on Boot Camp and trying to install an "important" update from windows update, but it fails:
    Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2506014) - Published: 4/12/2011.
I received error code 80073712 and ran System Update Readiness Tool to no avail. Microsoft recommends repairing Windows from the install disc if using that tool fails, but I'm not willing to go that far just yet.
KB 2506014 title is "Update for the Windows Operating System Loader", so I am wondering if there is something about how Boot Camp is configured that is preventing this from installing.
Has anyone else running Windows 7 x64 on Boot Camp received the same error for this particular update, or been successful in installing it? It is thus far the only windows update that has failed to install for me.

    KB 2506014 2011-04-13 (important) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2506014

Try Search, pasting data from between {} {"windows 7"+KB2506014+fails} into search argument. This shows problems with Norton etc.
You could download "Autoruns" to see drivers etc. that are loaded - good coding 606K - from Sysinternals - Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb545021
Good for Windows 7, this allows disable of questionable/unwanted drivers
I uninstall bootcamp wireless etc. drivers such as broadcom, bluetooth that I do not use on Mac Pro.
There are some utilities not compatible with Windows 7 which you do not want to use.

  • How can I force mount a dvd that isn't even seen by Disk Utility? I can see it on the Mac when using my Windows 7 partition via Boot Camp, but not in Lion, which is how I would rather be running.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

  • Windows 7 install via boot camp assistant fails

I have a iMac 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
I also have a USB drive formated as Master Boot Record in MS-DOS (FAT) format. The USB has a capacity of 4GB+ and for now only includes a file named 'unattend.xml'  and a folder named 'drivers'. I created this USB drive when advised by a Boot Camp support site, because the Windows 7 install created a blank screen with a small flashing line on the upper-left of the screen.
The I have burned an ISO file of Windows 7 Pro English 32 bit from the Microsoft site (I'm Gold partner).
So I started of by clicking on the Boot Camp Assistant, tried to download the nesecarry Windows drivers, but it refused...  This seemed to be a normal problem which I could ignore (I heard). So I selected 'I have the Max OS X Installation Disc....'  and pressed continue.   I now prepared the size of the Windows environment and when that was finished, I inserted the burned DVD (which works perfectly fine on non-Apple computers).
All this time, the USB drive was in the back of the iMac.
I waited a while and the computer rebooted. A white screen appeared and after a while, the screen went to black, with the flashing little line on the upper-left of the screen...
What is it that I do wrong?   Any help is really appreaciated.

    Partitions are not drives
you are just seeing user volumes
your sig showed you still run 10.6, not Lion, no recovery partition (which is hidden)
The update to lion puts the recovery partition between where Mac and Boot Camp use to be and would have been.
I am opposed to upgrading to Lion. Do clean install, even to an external drive.
To me all that is needed is in the manual and here

  • Install Windows 8.1 with Boot Camp

    Greetings you all,
I've been trying to install WIndows 8(.1) on my MacBook Pro early 2011, but without any success. I downloaded the .ISO of Windows, stored it on my external HDD, downloaded the software via Boot Camp to host Windows (I'm sorry I'm french so I'll have to translate everything) and put it on another external HDD, and when I plug them to my Mac and start the installation of Windows, it doesn't detect the USB.
What should I do? If possible, avoiding any installation of the disk image on a DVD.
    Thanks.

    There are several possibilities.
    1. You do not have contiguous free disk space.
    2. BCA has failed, or you may have a Fusion drive which is causing problems.
    3. You have incorrect permissions on the disk.
    4. Can you boot in OS X Safe Mode - OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support?

  • Can't install windows 8.1 with boot camp

I'm trying to install windows 8.1 with boot camp and this is the message I keep getting. I've tried several times and every time I get this. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. I've tried installing from a usb with ISO and also from a oem windows dvd. Any help would be appreciated.

    Excellent.
Windows installation has four or five reboots, and the Apple BootManager tracks such reboots via the Mac NVRAM, otherwise the next reboot will cause OS X to boot rather than Windows. It is also used to set up some variables used to pass information to the CSM-BIOS layer. If an installation has failed, the variables do not reflect the current and clean state of the machine. A NVRAM reset will re-initialize these variables for the next attempt.
