Handling DDE in 10G

Hi all..
We are migrating 4.5 forms application to 10G.
We have too many DDE calling pdfs, excels and external applications in the 4.5 forms.
Now we are hosting everything in 10G AS, so all the DDE calls will now look for the files in the AS and will fail.
Webutil doesn't provide workaround for this like it does for other client handling operations(ole2).
So please suggest me wat to do ?
Thnx in advance
Sriram

DDE has been in effect depricated and relaced by OLE and so regardless of the issues of upgrading to the web, it would still be an issue that would have to be written using OLE.

    I want to know that how language works in oracle 10g database at micro level.Actually what happen when we insert any record into database and how database handle it.
    from insertion to storage and displaying any stored record...what exaclty happens?
    how oracle 10g handle it?

    That would be big long session.
    You can start from following link,

  • Exception Handling in Discoverer 10g

    I am using a PL/SQL function which will return a value to a column in Discoverer 10g .I want to give a custom message in discoverer if any error occurs in that function.Is it feasible in Discoverer?

    I don't think Disco will do this by itself.
    You could try having the function perform the error handling and either pass back a value or a message. A potential drawback would be that the function would have to return a character datatype.

  • DDE in 10g on Unix

    We're converting Forms to 10g and running the 10g AS on Unix.
    Some of the 6i forms use DDE to read & write in Excel.
    Will DDE only run on the App Server?
    Will I be able to use DDE on the Unix box without Excel installed there?

    I am afraid that you will have to change it manually unless you can find someone who has a generic conversion utility for DDE calls. I don't know of anything like that though.
    DDE was old hat even when OLE was hot and much less flexible that OLE was. Easier to use but much less powerful.

  • Exception Handling in ADF 10g

    Hi everybody,
    I want to develop an application and need exception handling.
    I have a helper application that contains this classes:
    MyADFPhaseListener extends ADFPhaseListener that return this: return new MyFacesPageLifecycle(),
    MyErrorHandler extends DCErrorHandlerImpl,
    MyFacesPageLifecycle extends FacesPageLifecycle that contain this methods:
    prepareModel(LifecycleContext ctx) that set my errorhandler with this: ctx.getBindingContext().setErrorHandler(new MyErrorHandler(true));
    and
    reportErrors(PageLifecycleContext ctx){
    DCBindingContainer bc = (DCBindingContainer)ctx.getBindingContainer();
    if (bc != null) {
    ArrayList<Exception> exceptions =new ArrayList<Exception>();
    exceptions = bc.getExceptionsList();
    if (exceptions != null) {
    /*handle exceptions*/
    My problem is here:
    when throw an exception in my app like this: throw new JboException("Don't do that.", "101", null);
    after create pagelifecycle and calling prepareModel(), reporterros() dose not call....!!!
    why?
    Edited by: 859070 on May 15, 2011 9:35 PM

    when click a button and call action of this button.
    please note:
    My helper application and main application are apart. I deploy helper application to jar file and use this jar file in main application.
    Maybe exceptions don`t send to reportErrors() method in MyPageLifeCycle class, because i create a test class like this:
    public class test {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws SQLException {
    ArrayList<Exception> exss = new ArrayList<Exception>();
    exss.add(new JboException("A fatal exception is occurred",
    "103", null));
    exss.add(new NullPointerException());
    exss.add(new SQLException());
    MyFacesPageLifecycle efpl =new MyFacesPageLifecycle();
    efpl.errorReporter(exss);
    Body of errorReporter(ArrayList<Exception>) method is like reportErrors(PageLifecycleContext) just parameter is different.
    public void errorReporter(ArrayList<Exception> excs) {
    if (excs != null) {
    for (Exception exception: excs) {
    if(exception instanceof JboException){
    System.out.println("JBOException is occurred here: "+exception.getMessage());
    else if(exception instanceof SQLException){
    System.out.println("SQLException is occurred here");
    else if(exception instanceof NullPointerException){
    System.out.println("NullPointerException is occurred here");
    else{
    and this handle exceptions list. My opinion is that exceptions between different applications(helper and main) are lost. is this correct?

    We cannot migrated to 11g as yet, so how to handle this in 10g?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Edited by: Channa on Oct 25, 2011 6:40 AM

    Hi Channa,
    I should have mentioned it in the previous thread, a sound approach to the overall requirement would be to use object-relational storage for loading XML documents in the database.
    You can read more here : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14259/xdb03usg.htm#g1055369
    However, that's not possible if we use the DUMP=ALL option to convert Forms files to XML because the generated files do not conform to the Forms XML schema.
    So unless you decide to use DUMP=OVERRIDDEN, you're stuck with the current situation.
    If I remember correctly, the ability to project large strings as CLOB with XMLTable was added in version 10.2.0.4.
    You're not out of options though.
    Here are two, one being "dirtier" than the other...
    1) Divide the property value into multiple chunks of 4000 characters (or less if the db uses a multi-byte character set), then rebuild the string as CLOB in the SELECT clause :
    select x1.item_name
         , x1.item_type
         , x2.property
         , to_clob(utl_i18n.unescape_reference(x2.property_value1)) ||
           to_clob(utl_i18n.unescape_reference(x2.property_value2)) as property_value
         , x1.parent_item_name
         , x1.parent_item_type
    from xmltable(
           xmlnamespaces(default 'http://xmlns.oracle.com/Forms', 'http://xmlns.oracle.com/Forms' as "def")
         , 'for $i in /Module/descendant::*[@def:Name]
            return element item {
              attribute item_name {data($i/@def:Name)}
            , attribute item_type {local-name($i)}
            , attribute parent_item_name {data($i/parent::*/@def:Name)}
            , attribute parent_item_type {local-name($i/parent::*)}
            , $i
           passing xmltype(bfilename('TEST_DIR','module2.xml'), nls_charset_id('AL32UTF8'))
           columns item_name         varchar2(50) path '@item_name'
                 , item_type         varchar2(50) path '@item_type'
                 , parent_item_name  varchar2(50) path '@parent_item_name'
                 , parent_item_type  varchar2(50) path '@parent_item_type'
                 , item              xmltype      path '.'
         ) x1
       , xmltable(
           xmlnamespaces(default 'http://xmlns.oracle.com/Forms', 'http://xmlns.oracle.com/Forms' as "def")
         , 'for $i in /item/*/attribute::def:*
            let $propname := local-name($i)
            let $propval := data($i)
            where $propname != "Name"

  • OWB Flat File Management

    Hello,
    Right now we are using OWB 10g R1. In this we created some mappings to get get data from flat files to Oracle database. After that we created Process Flows to execute these mappings. In this process flows we needed lot of file management. For this we wrote shell scripts. Ex: Flat files created with different names. But in mappings we use source name as fixed. For this we changed Flat file name to fixed name which we used in mapping. Then sending this name to process flows. Sending original falt file to Archieve. All this is done by writing shell scripts.
    Here my question is there any good file management or file handler in OWB 10g R2 ? If any body familiar with this please guide me or tell the documents where can I find about file management in process flows? I hope you guys understand my question. If not please let me know.

  • Oracle Forms 10g runtime handling during RAC node failover.

    Hi,
    Forms version 10g R2 (10.1.2.0.2)
    Oracle DB version 10g R2 RAC with 3 nodes.
    If the RAC DB node that the user is connected to goes down, the user gets FRM-40733 and ORA-03114 error messages and the client forms application gets locked down/ goes in a loop with the error messages. The user has to close the browser to get out of the loop. I understand that this is the expected behaviour, but I'm wondering whether we can trap the error ORA-03114 and fire the "key-exit" trigger to get out of the application.
    Have any one implemented a clean way to exit the Forms application when the RAC DB node goes down..?
    I'm looking for some suggestions or an elegant way to handle the above failure.
    Thank you in advance.
    Sudhakar

    Glen,
    I haven't solve this one yet.I have been playing around with the following:
    In my environment, I am still using 6i (not web) forms/reports.
    My clients are XP, NT, 2000.
    I have the forms/report runtime installed on their PCs.
    Their TNSNAMES.ORA will be pointing to PRIMARY ( PDB)
    If a SWITCHOVER or FAILOVER happens to the physical standby (SDB), I want a trigger to kick a batch file that will manipulate the TNSNAME.ORA on each clients stations.
    On the standby
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER change_tns
    AFTER DB_ROLE_CHANGE ON DATABASE
    DECLARE
    role VARCHAR2(30);
    dbname varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    SELECT
    DATABASE_ROLE,
    DB_UNIQUE_NAME
    INTO
    role,
    dbname
    FROM
    V$DATABASE;
    IF role = 'PRIMARY' and dbname='SDB' THEN
    dbms_scheduler.create_job(
    job_name=>'move_sqlnet',
    job_type=>'executable',
    job_action=>'c:\temp\movetns.cmd',
    enabled=TRUE
    ELSE
    -- if the standby >was< PRIMARY,
    -- but the primary comes BACK on line,
    -- need to reverse the step above.
    END IF;
    END;
    As for the movetns.cmd
    something like
    rem -- attach to the workstation,
    net use m: \\station name\share name
    rem -- stdb_tnsname.ora would be pointing to STANDBY
    copy stdb_tnsname.ora m:\orant\net80\tnsname.ora
    net use m: /delete
    rem -- need to do that for all workstations..
    As you can see, there could be lots of problems with this procedure.
    Client doesn't know about the failover, starts a RE-BOOT on the pc, therefore, the new tnsnames.ora will not get to client.. what to do for that client? Do i re-run the batch ...every hour?
    tell me if you come up with an answer..
    p-
