I had a whining week 12 MacBook Pro. I exchanged it at the Apple Store for another week 12 MacBook Pro (they didn't have any week 13 models).
The second week 12 MacBook whined far louder than the first. Also, unlike the first MacBook which whined only on battery power, the second MacBook whined on both A/C and battery. Moreover, it was unstable (something I did not experience with the first MacBook) and prone to kernel panics.
I returned the second MacBook. I was offered a week 13, but I asked for my money back instead.
I'm currently waiting to see what Apple says about this issue before ordering again.

If the error is in fact due to the employee discount Verizon dropped the ball here big time. I never was able to get past the ECPD error when upgrading my device tried for90minutes. I did the new customer and it went through without a hitch but i would have to change my phone number....not good!! Decided to give it one last shot on Apple Store App and was able to have the iPhone 6 Plus silver 16GB reserved...got a reservation number since they were having issues connecting to verizon. So happy!! Been month to month over 2 years waiting on the 6!!! If you don't care to change your number go as a new customer or use apple store app. Good luck and good night!

Has anyone with Windows successfully set up "Accounts" disk file sharing?

I bought an Airport Extreme basestation (the one with Wifi-N and gigabit ethernet)a few days ago and set it up on the network.
So far the wifi part has been nice - the range and speed (and stability) are a lot better than the Belkin draft-N wifi I had been using.
I've also been able to share a few FAT-32 USB disks (Iomega brand) using the "with device password" option and it seems to work nicely in this mode.
But what I really want to do is setup access by the "with a disk password" and via "accounts" - but after several hours of troubleshooting and checking on the Internet, I get the impression that neither work.
For example, when I am sharing the disks in Device mode, I can connect to the IP from windows explorer and access using any user name and the device password. This works great.
When I set it to "Disk" mode - it doesn't work at all - no matter what user name and password are used. I tried using both the disk and device password. I get a windows error "... is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource..." which is consistent with the user and password authentication failure. I have the same experience when setting the disk sharing for "Account" mode.
Repeated rebooting of the Airport Extreme and Laptop did not help at all. I also tried after killing the Airport utility/assistant that sits in the task bar as it seems useless. The results are the same with the utility activated or not.
A few more details:
I have the Airport Extreme in 'bridge' mode - the IP is generated by a broadband router connected to a cable modem. I updated the firmware from the 7.2.1 that came installed to the latest (7.3.2).
I read on the Internet a number of posts from both Mac and Windows users reporting bugs in the security software on the airport for filesharing. So my question is - has anyone with a Windows (XP, vista, etc) gotten the file sharing to work with anything other than Device mode? Eg. Disk mode, Account mode, etc?
I know several people that use these devices, but nobody is using in this mode. I talked 2 friends to try setting up users and they couldn't get it to work either. But it's not a big deal to them since they don't use that feature.
If anyone is using it like this, I'd like to know how you set it up. If you had this problem and what you did to fix it. Thanks!

I suspect I may never know why, but now, inexplicably, everything is working.
Out of curiosity, I tried to connect via an older win2000 machine that we use for a file server and it worked!
After we rebooted the other XP machines, they started working too.
I'm sure the fix was anything but connecting a win2000 machine, but I'm just happy it works now!

I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week.

Im having the same problem, I updated my Iphone 4S to 6.1.3, shortly after that my phone had no audio. It was working fine one minute and then stopped. Was listening to music when sound gave out on me. It wont ring, phone just vibrates even after turning off vibration option. I've tried all the options listed and nothing. My phone has never been jailbroken either. If I connect the earphones is works perfectly. On one of my last calls received, phone's ringtone was heard for about 2 seconds before muting and just vibrating. Ringtone sounded perfect, speakers did not sound damaged.
What else could be done? I've read several post regarding this and it seems like Apple has no solution to this yet. Very dissappointed.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"
If you have an iPad 4 it is still under warranty. If the front camera is still not working call Apple Support for replacement.

Has Anyone Repaired "The Whine"?

Has anyone sent in their computer to get the electronic whine fixed? If so, have they gotten it back, and did it work?
I have the whine problem and was seeing if it is worthwhile. My MBP is my only computer, and I need it for school, so it would be hard to send it in for weeks and not have any computer to use.
Also, would it be possible for an Apple repair center to fix the computer within a few days, via them having the parts, and me dropping my computer off and picking it up later? I live on Los Angeles, but can anyone do that anywhere?

To be clear, there are multiple whines:
CPU at idle (the one you mention above)
Backlight inverter board
Constantly spinning Fan
CAI is a low drone, can be remedied by running CPU intensive tasks or by using iSight. The mirror widget may mute the sound until sleep.
BIB sounds like nails on a chalkboard and is undoubtedly recognizable - though it comes and goes as the ambient light changes.
CSF sounds like it should - no surprises here. Seems to be associated with the hardware error 4SNS/1/40000000: 'TmOP' (found by running the Apple Hardware test).
Some people have made audio recordings of their MBPs. Google for them or contact me for mine.

Since I have installed Lion on Friday, I have noticed that my MacBook Pro is very hot to the touch. Has anyone found this same issue?
Haven't had any of the problems that other people have had since installing.
What are your thoughts out there?

I had this same concern on mine as well until I remembered that Lion would have to index the entire drive. My MBP is using an 120GB Intel SSD so once indexing started it did not take long, about 2 hours with the drive at 59GB, but it was warm the entire time.
My iMac (2011 version) ran hot for around 6 hours with the standard 1TB drive about half full.
Since then I have noticed they both run a few degrees hotter than before but nothing I am concerning myself with as it's right around 100 to 100 degrees versus 90 to 100 with SL. So I beleive there are some services running that are doing alot, probably the biggy is the autosave feature.

Zukki, just go to your tools, addons and addon manager. It will bring you to your plugin page, and on the left top, in very small print, it has a link to check if your plugins are updated.
Oh, I left this open so that Zukki can see how to check to see if his update worked, Andy. I'll click that you solved it, once he gets a chance to see where to find the plugin update status.

HT1766 Has anyone found a protocol that allows the 4S to operate beyond one year and to preserve battery life on this phone?

Please advise me as to any method to restore a 1 year old 4S, keep apps from crashing or disappearing. and to reserve battery life? Information on WiFi malfunction would also be greatly appreciated. Sprint is unfortunately my carrier and I suspect a lot of resources are overtaxed to maintain connection. Any advice for this phone, or do I just need to upgrade to a model with new reception technology? Thank you.

In terms of self-resolve I have done everything, including restore to original- to accomplish this I had to re- install Win 7 on a low use machine, as it could not be done with 8.1 Pro- attempt made with Apple advanced tech who also was unsuccessful at even getting the phone to restore with 8.1. I was going, with lots of time and assistance from the tech, to send in for a replacement, until I made one last try with older workstation and without using backup- didn't want to inherit old problems. The phone worked fine for a month or so and then reverted to the problems above. Wi-Fi is not greed out, but won't connect to some sites and 3G is usually faster and more reliable - on the phone, not computers. My data measured usage of data has spiked, I guess that is related to struggling for a Sprint connection. Battery life is rapidly degrading, was okay after restore.
Upgrade thinking was to improve antenna technology. I have owned, personally and as a company, over 50 iPhones. I have loved them, but can't seem to get a straight answer from Apple on this one; which makes me consider options. Has anyone resolved similar problems with the 4G? Fix, wait for 6, switch carriers or switch manufacturers? Is Apple switching it's focus to mass market, cheaper and less expensive?

Has anyone regretted buying the Macbook Air 11" and wished they got the 13?

Like many other people on this forum, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between 11" and 13". I've read through all the other threads and still haven't made up my mind.
I really, really want the 11" because it is so pretty and portable, but my only concern is that it only has 128GB hard drive. This is the only thing that is preventing me from buying one straight away. I want this to be my sole computer.
I have a 1TB portable hard drive, which I could keep my photos (50GB), music (100GB) and movies/TV shows (500GB) but worried it might get annoying with such a small HD. Does anyone else use it as their sole computer?
I travel every year and like to take a laptop with me, + I go to uni and like to take my laptop to uni every day. Would this be annoying with the 13"?

I recently got the 11" MBA, switching down from a 13" Macbook Pro. I don't regret a thing! I may not be the best one to advise on this, however, seeing as I'm in no danger of filling up my 128gb hard drive (all music, photos, etc. take up a mere 40gb), and seeing as I do have an iMac at home. But, really, the iMac is for storage. I use my little 11" almost exclusively. It is my primary computer and if the iMac vanished, I probably wouldn't notice.
I really think you'll be surprised at how little hard drive you actually require. Obviously, when you need something you need it, and it's nice to be able to access it instantly. But there are so many options for that now--wireless connection to other computers (like school computers), to a cloud or other on-line storage, portable disk drives, USB drives. Obviously, these options are not foolproof. If there's no wireless, and/or you forget or lose the portable drive, you're out of luck. But the question really comes down to how likely you'll be in a position where you need that "elsewhere" data, but can't get to it. If that scenario isn't all that likely, then by all means. Go for the 11".
It's a little hard to get rid of the mentality we've maintained for so long that we need to lug all our music, photos, videos along with us because there's no other way to get at them when we need them. But the plain fact is, with wireless and portable drives, we can keep the bare minimum on our laptops (thus keeping them light and slim) and put all that extra stuff in "storage" for when we want it. We don't have to lug it all around with us all the time "in case."
And if you make sure that your 11" is backing up (vis Time Machine), then if anything should happen to it, you can resurrect it just as it was, nothing lost. Just do make sure to go for 4gb RAM. If it's going to be your only computer, make it top-of-the-line.

Have a MacBook Pro. Been using hot mail/Safari. Suddenly can't copy and paste an e mail. Can't make an att> without getting an error message.."0 bytes empty" Got ahold of hot mail was told yes there is a problem between Mac and hot mail Safari and for $59.00 they can fix it. Forgot to ask if the same would apply if I were a pc user. Anbody shed some light on this? Anyone recomend a better em ail service other than g mail?
