HashCode() method and identityHashCode() difference
Hi to All
I am working in Java Strings. While studying java Strings, I am getting confusion to understand what is hashCode() and identityHashCode() method. I have written a small program and executed. I got two different out puts. Here i am posting my code.

The first one is generated by hashCode() and second one is by identityHashCode(). Can any one explain me what are those two different nos. Thanks in advance.

Comparing dynamic fields of objects using equals and hashCode methods
To compare the different objects of the same class with their contents like jobTitleId, classificationId, deptId & classificationId was to be done and do some manipulations later using Set and Map. I was able to do that by simply overriding the equals and hashCode methods of Object class and was able to fetch the information (like in the following Map).

Problem:
I'm already known to which all fields of this object I need to make the comparison.
i.e I'm bound to use the variables named classificationId, deptId, jobTitleId & locId etc.
Need:
I need to customize this logic such that the fields Names (classificationId, deptId, jobTitleId & locId etc) can be pulled dynamically along with their values. So, as far as my understanding I made use of 2 classes (TableClass and ColWithData) such that the List of ColWithData is there in TableClass object.
I'm thinking what if I override the same two methods `equals() & hashCode();`
such that the same can be achieved.

I would like to differences between Synchronized methods and blocks.

Synchronized block is a toilet room with a lock in a public lavatory.
Only one person(running thread) can have the lock at a time.
And, she/he have to receive the lock from a particular object obj like:
synchronized(obj){.....} // one object has only one lock for this {} toilet and for any other toilets how many there are... *
(*: In other words, while a thread is executing a synchronized(obj){} block, other threads can't enter other synchronized(obj){} blocks.)
Synchronized method is a kind of synchronized block.
This special block is defaulted to have lock from the object on which the method is defined.

Overriding and hiding a method.. the difference?

the text says that "...a subclass cannot override methods that are declared static in the superclass. In other words, a subclass cannot override a class method. A subclass can hide a static method in the superclass by declaring a static method in the subclass with the same signature as the static method in the superclass"
what does this mean? i don't see the difference between this overriding and hiding of the methods? is it just the concepts??
what's the difference when i have a non-static method in the superclass overridden by a non-static method in the sub class and when i have a static method hidden by a static method in the subclass?over-riding means that you declare an implemenation of some method on the current class that over-rides the implemenation inherieted from your superclass. Over-riding the toString method to print customer data would be a good example- the implemenation on the current class will be invoked, instead of the superclass. Because static methods are bound to a class, rather then instance, they can not be over-ridden. Instead, you can only replace that method with a method of same signature and name. Maybe this code makes it more clear:

//the implemenation of MyClass.toString will be
//invoked if it is over-ridden, even though Object.toString
//is being referenced
arg.toString();But, static methods, like Class.method() and SubClass.method(), have no inherieted functionality- they are totally unique methods that simply share the same name. I'm not sure if this explanation makes it clear or not, but the operative point is, there's no functional relationship between static methods. -

Among the two methods call transaction is better compared to session bcoz data transfer is faster in it.
Differences between call transaction and session.
Session Method:
1) Data is not updated in the database table until the session is processed.
2) No sy-subrc is returned.
3) Error log is created for error records.

Call Transaction Method:
1) Immediate updation in the database table.
2) sy-subrc is returned.
3)Error need to be handled explicitly.

Take a scenario where we need to post documents in FB01 and the input file has say 2000 records (2000 documents, not line items in FB01 but 2000 records)
In the BDC call transaction method
We call the transaction FB01 2000 times (once for each record posting) and if the processing fails in record no 3 it can be captured and start with reocord 4.
Eg: Loop at itab.

In the session method.
We do not explicity call the transaction 2000 times, but all the records are appeneded into a session and this session is stored. The processinf of the session is done wwhenever the user wants it to be done. Hence the errors cannot be captured in the program itself

Batch Input Session method is asynchronous as told by others here. But the advantage of this is that you have all the error messages and the data for each transaction held persistantly. You don't have to code anything for processing them or writing the logs.
But at the same time, the same feature can be disadvantageous if you need to react to an error or if there are too many errors to manually correct in a session. Since the session are created in the program and its execution is done seperately, you loose the trackability of such transactions.
With a call transaction, what was a disadvantage above will become an advantage. Call transaction immediately gives you messages back and you can react to it in your program. But the disadvantage is that, if you have several hundreds of transactions to run, running them from within the program can be resource crunching affair. It will hamper the system performance and you cannot really distribute the load. Of course, you have some mechanisms with which you can overcome this, but you will have to code for it. Also, storing the messages and storing the errored transaction data etc will have to be handled by you in the program. Whereas, in batch input session, your program's job is to just create the session, after that everything is standard SAP system's responsibility.
Ideally, you should do a call transaction if the resources are not a problem and if it fails, put the errored transaction into a session.
You can decide based on the data volume that your BDC is processing. If data volume is high go for session else call transaction will do.The call transaction updates will be instantaneous where as session needs to be processed explictly after creation.
Session Method
1) Session method supports both small amount of data aswell as large amount of data
2) data processing is asynchronus and data updation is synchronus.
3) it process multiple apllication while perfomaning validations.
4) in session method data will be updated in data base only after processing session only.
5) system provide by default logfile for handling error records.
6) it supports both foreground aswell as background process

Difference between Session method and Call transaction method in BDCHi,
SESSION method:
Is a standard procedure for transferring large amount of data into the R/3 system.
Data consistency is ensured because batch input uses all thje checks conducted on the normal screen.
It is a two step procedure:
1. Progarm: creates batch input session. This session is the data file that includes everything to begin the transaction.
2. Process session: Which then actually transfers the data to database table.
In this method an ABAP/4 program reads the external data that is to be entered in the SAP system and stores the data in a session.
A session stores the actions that are required to enter your data using normal SAP transactions i.e. data is transferred to session which inturn transfers data to database table. Session is an intermediate step between internal table and database table.
Data along with it's actions are stored in session. i.e. data for screen fields, to which screen it is passed, the program name behind it and how next screen is processed.
When the program has finished generating the session, u can run the session to execute the SAP transactions in it.
BDC_OPEN_GROUP
You create the session through program by BDC_OPEN_GROUP function.
1) User Name: User Name.
2) Group : Name of the session
3) Lock Date : The date when you want to process the session.
4) Keep : This parameter is passed as 'X' when you want to retain session even after processing it.
BDC_INSERT
Data is transferred to session by BDC_INSERT.
BDC_CLOSE_GROUP.
With this function the session will be closed.
CALL TRANSACTION method.
Syntax: call transaction <tr code> using <bdctab>
mode <A/N/E>

<tr code> : transaction code
<bdctab> : Name of the BDC table
mode: mode in which you execute the transaction.
A : all screen mode ( all the screens of the transaction are displayed )
N : no screen mode ( no screen will be displayed when you execute the transaction )
E : error screen ( only those screens are displayed where in you have error record )
Update type:
S: synchronous update in which if you change data of one table then all the related tables gets updated and SY_SUBRC is returned for once and all.
A: asynchronous update in which if you change data of one table, the sy-subrc is returned and then updation of other affected tables takes place. So if system fails to update other tables still sy-subrc returned is zero.(that is when first table gets updated ).
messages: if you update database table, operation is either successful or unsuccessful. These messages are stored in internal table. This internal table structure is like BDCMSGCOLL.
TCODE: transaction code.
DYNAME: batch input module name.
DYNNUMB: batch input dyn no.
MSGTYP: batch input message type.
MSGSPRA: batch input language id of message.
MSGID: message id.
MSGV1 .MSGV5: message variables
For each entry which is updated in the database table message is available in BDCMSGCOLL.

KutonYou can create an Organization payment method of any Payment type(Cash, Check, BACS, NACHA etc) under the same country.
All these will be valid payment methods on the payroll description form.
And you can even attach these to a person.
In which case you will have a Base currency (say USD) and payment currency (say GBP).
These cases are not normal and only used by people who use a single BG for paying employees in 3-4 countries.
So, unless you need to pay in different currencies, do not use it.

The main difference between the two is in lsmw we can view the code status at any time just by coming to prvious steps, but whereas in batch input method unless the recording is finished we cant view the code.
second diff is tht we need to do lot of coding in batch inptu whereas here in lsmw we need not do much coding and mapping to data.
third diff is that batch input is both inbound and outbound where as lsmw is only inbound.

Here are few differences bw Batch Input and Direct Inputs methods.
Batch Input: Uses classical BDC approach, but doesn't required an ABAP program to be written to format the BDC DATA. The user has to format the data using predefined structures and store it in a flat file. Yet it is a slower updation method.
Direct Input: Works similar to Batch Input programs. The difference is, instead of processing screens they validate fields and directly load the data into tables using standard function modules. Much faster and suits for large volume of data.

Class HashSet and hashCode method
I'm using a HashSet class with elements of class A.
I define the equals method but when i add a object which is already in the set, this object is duplicate.

Actual Benefits of final methods and final parameters
I know that a lot of this depends on the JVM and the actual code, but I was wondering what the actual real world advantage was of using final methods and final parameters.
I use a business and data layer for my program to interact with the database. So all of the methods in these classes are public and static. I was just wondering if it would be benefical to make all of these methods final and all of the parameters final also. I won't ever be making subclasses of these classes, so is this worth doing?

Dave JohansenOn the point of final, this should always be a design decision. That is, does it make sense to allow your class to be overridden? Making classes and/or methods final is a big barrier to future enhancements and extendability - so only make soemthing final if you haver a specific reason for doing so.
Any performance issues should not take a high precedence in this decision - and in any case the difference in making something final will be non-existant for all practical purposes.
How about volatile?
I get the meaning of synchronized but
volatile?Volatile is a keyword that tells the JVM it can't optimize / inline serctions of code that use certain variables. You may not realise it, but the JVM takes your bytecode and chops them up and re-arranges them at runtime, to boost performance. This can sometimes have dangerous consequences in a mutlithreaded environment, so by adding the volatile keyword you are saying to the JVM (or specifically HotSpot) not to perform any "code magic".
Here's a simple example:

}Obviously the string will never print in a single threaded environment. However, in a multithreaded environment, is is possible that a thread could call setTrue() between another thread setting the value to false and performing the if() check. The point is that due to runtime optimization, Hotspot may realise that check is always false, so completely remove the code section with the if block. so regardless of the value of the boolean, the code may never be entered.
One solution is to declare the boolean check as volatile. This tells the JVM that such optimizations are not allowed and then it is entirely possible for the string to be printed.
