HDR Efex Pro2 Crashing Photoshop CS6?

I have been using Nik HDR Efex Pro2 with Photoshop CS6 successfully for over a year on my aging MAC Pro and OS 10.6.8. Now all of a sudden HDR Efex Pro 2 crashes Photoshop as soon as I launch it.
Nik suggests my GPU is out of date but how could it be fine one day and out of date the next. To make sure I ran an update on the MAC OS software. (I cannot upgrade beyond 10.6.8 because some of my software won't be compatible.) I also tried their suggested replacing the .cfg code in the Nik HDR preference folder. In addition I did an update on CS6 and uninstalled and reinstalled HDR Efex Pro2.
During the time it went from working to not working I might have allowed the recommended updates such as iTunes, Airport, etc. Flash also wanted to be updated and I have heard of some different types of conflicts with this from others.
Can anyone offer any advice?

You should try installing the very latest version of the HDR Efex Pro 2 software. I installed the latest Nik collection and now it is working in CS6 without crashing upon launch. You might want to contact Nik support and describe what has happened, tell them your system specifics and they can determine which version will work on Windows 7 & CS6.
I assume some update I did made it so the older version of HDR Efex Pro 2 was no longer compatible.

  • Is there a solution for HDR Efex Pro2 Crashing?

Using Light Roon 5.2 trying to export with a preset to HDR Efex Pro 2 I get the captioned error message.  I didn't have this problem under 5.0.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

I'm anxiously awaiting some answers here.  I have the same problem.  I've even uninstalled 5.2 back to 5 and it still doesn't work.  Uninstalled it all and reinstalled everything (minus 5.2).  HDREfex version 1 works fine still, but I keep getting a "failure to launch external application error" when trying to export to HDRefex2.  Tried all the patches mentioned for the similar error discussed last year for LR4 and HDRefex2 with no luck.

  • HDR Efex Pro2 Problems - crashes regularly in LR4.4

I have been using HDR Efex Pro2 for a year as a preset in Lightroom 4 with no problem.  Now it crashes all the time.  Could this be because I upgraded Lightroom to 4.4?  Has anyone had this problem or know how I can fix it.  Of course NIK won't call me back.  And Adobe is pointing figures at NIK.

I'm not sure yet - I send some questions to Adobe and to NikSoftware support.
I'm still under investigation but I think it is neither LR nor NikSoftware problem. It is just different configuration.
    Now,
    you've upgraded drivers - great.
But don't change cfg file - it was the NikSoftware suggestion - not mine. Only drivers update. My fault - I've changed this point in a solution.
Don't worry - just remove this content you've added from cfg file.
    Next step:
Have you found what version of OpenGL is running in your system (points 3 and 4 in the solution).
My problem was connected directly with OpenGL version.
Heckuvaguy1954, Heirloom Bob - can you send me your HDR Efex Pro 2 log file? Maybe I will find some clues there.
Log file is in the same folder where the config file is.
File name: HDR Efex Pro 2_log.txt

  • Nik HDR Efex Pro Crashes Aperture

I am using all the Nik plugins with Aperture 3.1, but HDR Efex Pro crashes Aperture about 1/3 of the time on my iMac. Nik says the cause is probably a corrupt file in my user account, and there is a basis for this since I can run HDR Efex Pro on my MacBook Pro or using a new user account without a problem. I think that Nik should also accept some responsibility since this is the only program that crashes Aperture. Does anyone else have a fix for this other than doing a clean install of OS X?
    Thanks -

Hi I also have this problem with HDR Efex Pro for me it seems that it crashes every 2nd or 3de set of photo's that I am opening. It says that my memory is to full. I've looked at my memory in activity monitor while i am working and it does not seems that my Memory is emptying after every time I've finished a set of HDR series. It is big files and my memory is then full very fast and then system crash. So I don't know why does the files that I've worked with stay full and does not empty itself. HDR Efex Pro is the only Nik software that I find makes my Aperture Crash.

  • Calligraphy brushes persistently crash Photoshop CS6.  Anyone have a solution?

    Running Windows 7 x64.
We ensured all software and hardware updates were complete.  Issue not resolved.
We re-installed nVidia vid card drivers; issue not resolved.
We replaced video card; issue not resolved.
We tried on a newer machine; same issue, different machine.
Just strange... as soon as the artist makes use of the calligraphy brushes, Adobe crashes.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions, we have an artists who'd love to make use of those brushes again.
    Thanks.

  • "Help improve Adobe products" window crashes Photoshop CS6

Most od the times when I try to open a Photoshop CS6 file (MacBook Pro Retina, Mac OS 10.8.3) and the "Help improve Adobe products" window shows up, no matter if I press the "Do not participate" or "participate" button, the program opens but all tghe menu items appear in gray or the program crashes

Same problem here, can no longer use Photoshop. Have never installed MacKeeper or MacCleaner which are named as culprits in other threads.
Macbook Pro C2D 2.4ghz with 4GB ram, used to work fine.

    Any suggestions/ideas.

Try reinstalling as Pierre suggests. If you manually just pulled the plug-in and dumped it in the plug-ins folder, you may have missed a resource file or messed with the Plug-in DRM.
Also, please submit all crash reports with your information and some details if you haven't already:

  • Liquify Tool Freezes and Crashes Photoshop CS6

This did not happen with CS5 or with the Beta version of CS6.  I have an integrated graphics card (Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset, and 6 GB RAM).  Can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem and have the same graphics card... if you can call it that I guess. The thing is, when I was using the 30-day free trial of the Creative Cloud, I used Liquify with no problem. I just tried using it for first time since I upgraded my account last week - and it freezes/crashes every single time. I tried restarting PC, ensuring the driver is up to date, etc... for three hours and I've yet to get it to work.
I understand it's crappy for graphics, but just confused since it worked before! Any thoughts?

  • Saved a 3D Design that Consistently Crashes Photoshop CS6

I was dabbling with a 3D version of my company logo that heads my home page, and ended up in a situation where things weren't working right, so I saved the design and closed Photoshop.
Specifically, I had gotten to a point where I wanted to make part of the extruded text Bold Italic, so I pressed the Edit Source button and expected Photoshop to open the text smart object, where I could make that change.  I wouldn't do so, however.  It just sat there.  Surprisingly, I found I could still interact with Photoshop, so I saved the design.

This image has Image Based Lighting, so it's rather large, but Adobe (or anyone else):

I wonder when I'll be moved from the "helpful" white board to the "delete on sight" list.

  • Photoshop CS6 HDR Merge to HDR Pro SUDDENLY stopped working?!

Yesterday and in the past HDR Merge to HDR Pro worked through Photoshop CS6 and Bridge.  Suddenly its running then stops before taking me to HDR Adjustment window.  I have installed reinstalled, computer is updated, etc.  Only thing that I can find on this issue is hundreds of other people with the same problem and no solution that is working to get this function working again.

    Exact same problem here.
    CS6 Production Premium and updated.
Goes all the way through and fails.
Mine will still work with 2 images and maybe 3, but I have some stacks of 4-7 images. Not working at all.
