Headphone socket is not working and apple wants replacement cost

Hi my iphone 5 is still in gurantee , suddenly its headphone socket stop working. When i plug headphones nothing happens. I visited apple store the guy said that this is due to a dent on my phone and i have to pay $260 replacement charge. But that little dent is 6 months old and socket stopped working few days ago. What should i do ?

You can call Apple and appeal their decision if you wish to (or go back to the store and ask for a supervisor or manager to assess your device - basically dispute the genius claim and ask to have it bumped up the chain of command).  Ultimately though they are the ones who decide if your damage is a warranty-related defect or something caused by accidenatal damage or abuse.  If they say you are not eligible for a warranty repair, then you pay the fee for an out of warranty repair.

Unfortunately, AT&T does not allow installation of non-Market apps on any of its Android phones.
You can find instructions online for using the "adb" developer tool to install non-Market apps, or you can wait for an upcoming beta release of Firefox which will be distributed through the Android Market, probably within the next month.

Take it to an Apple Store.  We can't help you fix a hardware problem.

  • Iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode, sleep button not working and Apple not helping

    Hey Apple Community,
My iPhone 4 has been caused me a lot of frustration in the past week and after getting rejected from Apple Customer Service I did not know where else to turn. Sometime in January my iPhone 4's sleep/wake button stopped responding (it seemed to have gotten stuck) and in my initial call to Apple I was told there was nothing they could do for me even though I was within the 1 year warranty. I figured I could live without locking my phone, it wasn't that big of a deal to me so I simply ignored it.
However, just a few days ago my home button started being less responsive and this was clearly something I could not manage without. It was acting odd, sometimes it would work on the first try and sometimes it wouldn't do anything even after 4-5 tries. The worst part was it would automatically go to voice control even when it was sitting in my pocket. This of course caused me quite a lot of embarrassment since voice control would activate in the middle of my lectures sounding a chime and would dial a random person's number and I would open my phone to hearing someone calling my name. No fun indeed. I called apple about it last week and the nice agent told me that he had waved some sort of a fee to talk to me, I did not know I was required to pay to recieve basic customer support. He also said since I was over the one-year warranty by 7 days and because I do not have an Apple Care plan there was nothing he could do for me besides offering me a refurbished iPhone 4 for $150 as a replacement. I said thanks for the offer but that isn't exactly solving my problem. Since Apple comes out with a new phone every year and being an Apple geek I stay current with the new technology - the Apple care plan just doesn't suit me. I protect my phone in the best of cases and I have never damaged a product due to negligence, I'm not a kid anymore so I don't need to insure my products for my own stupidity.
Well just in the past few hours the demon iPhone went from making random calls to showing me a "Connect to iTunes" logo. I figured it had to be reset due to some software probelm (which meant I might not have to fork out $$$ to get the home button fixed), I gladly connected it to my laptop and now it wont seem to leave recovery mode. I have tried numerous times and it seems to complete recovery and then tell me to connect to itunes again. At this point I feel like I have lost my phone (and everything precious I had stored in it).
Of course as a business professional this is quite a set back. All my contacts, all my pictures and scans of products and documents and even the little notes that I kept on there to help me function - all gone. I haven't called Apple yet but since they were unable to help me before I am assuming there isn't much they can do now. I do not want to pay $29.99 to be able to talk to someone who will tell me I am out of luck. I am about 130 miles from the nearest Apple store so the Genius bar is out of the window. So in a last attempt to salvage this expensive piece of technology I turn to you Apple Community for suggestions. I was not able to find an email address for customer service or any method of communication to someone who could just hear me out and give me a reasonable excuse for why Apple cannot do anything for me.  I always heard about the great customer service of Apple but I am surprised to see a product fail before my eyes and the manufacturer simply refusing to accept responsibility; all because I am 7 days too late. If I had dropped it or damage it through some programming experiments then I understand Apple refusing to do anything but this case is very disappointing.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice and apologize for writing a novel here, I wanted to present my case in the fullest of details.

I had the same issue (stuck in "Connect to iTunes" logo mode) and looked around for a resolution.  I didn't find an answer posted anywhere.   I ended up holding down the power button and the home button for about 20 seconds before it finally came back and said I had to restore it.  Once restored, everything is fine.
My problem was caused when I accidentally closed the iTunes window when I was updating the software (I meant to turn off the volume as a song was playing, but clicked on the window close button instead of the pause button).  I tried holding both buttons for the recommended 10 seconds several times and it didn't clear the problem.  Holding both buttons for a longer period of time did the trick for me.
I hope this post is useful to others.

  • The phone does not work, and they want to bill me for another to replace it !

They send you a iPhone 4s that will not activate, and now to get a new phone they want to charge me for another one to replace the broken one. You know a time to shine with customer service issues is when you have a big one, and in my opinion and based on what I am reading they are falling flat on their face. Even had a customer service rep lie to me on the phone. My opinion of Verizon is heading down hill.

Are you sure the device you have is broken and it's not part of the activation issue that many users were having over the last few days? If you got your 4s through Verizon within the last 14 days and you haven't caused any damage to it (water damage, broken screen) then you can simply return it or exchange it. If you've had it for longer than that then it would be replaced under warranty if nothing has happened to it that would void the warranty. There seems to be some important info you are leaving out of your post...
How long have you had the device
What exactly is the problem you're having (specifically, what happens when trying to activate)
What was the lie that you were told by a rep
Why were you told you would have to pay for another one (you had to be told a reason. If you're past the 14 days and the problem is non-warranty covered that could be a reason. Also, if you're past the 14 days and you're wanting to switch to a different device that could be the reason.)

  • The touchscreen of my iphone is not working, and I want to backup my most recent photos onto my mac, but I have a passcode that I have changed since my most recent backup around a month ago. What could I do to get my photos back?

    As the title says,
My iphone touchscreen stopped working around two days ago, so I cannot input my passcode. I am trying to backup my most recent photos as I have been on a trip abroad to phuket the past week, and got back home but did not have time to move my photos from that trip onto my mac before the touchscreen stopped working. I have a problem because I backed up my iphone last around a month ago, but have changed my passcode since so my iphone is not allowing me to back up onto my mac through itunes. I wish I at least hadn't changed the passcode, or had my photos on icloud, but I have so many photos that the icloud storage would cost so much for me to keep them updated.. I am so frustrated right now as it's not that I have forgot my passcode, or that I don't know it at all, but I know it. I wish there was a software that I could use on my mac to enter the passcode or something. Is there a way I could do something about it?!

So you are not using Photo Stream? If you are, then you can turn on Photo Stream on iCloud on your Mac, and then go to iPhoto or Aperture and the Photo Stream will show under "Web" in the sidebar.
You can also set up your iPhoto or Aperture preferences to automatically import your Photo Stream, so any photos you take with your iPhone camera will upload and import automatically and will show under events, broken into monthly groupings.
Photo Stream does not use any of your iCloud storage.
Here are the Preference Screens I'm referring to:
    iPhoto:
    Aperture:
One other thing concerning your Touch Screen. Have you tried resetting your device (nothing will be lost) to see if that will get your Touch Screen working again: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays see if your Touch Screen is working.
    Best of luck,
    GB

  • The silence switch is not working and apple say a new phone is only option, is this the case for such a minor component

I have the iPhone 4 and it's working perfectly, I can switch on the do not disturb option but would prefer to have a repair of the mute switch. Apple store advise they don't repair and a new phone is only option!

That is correct, Apple does not do repairs on parts, they will exchange the whole phone for the service fee:
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.

    iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c,
    iPhone 5

  • Ios8 is not working and Apple has no option to revert back to ios7

My iPhone 5s had turned into garbage after this update.  After 5 hours with Apple Support online, they finally told me to go to a store!!!
The screen does random things and I have no control over the apps.  Half the time the screen won't respond to my touch at all.  Very weird!
I reset the phone to the factory settings but no luck.
If you are having the same issues, PLEASE raise your voice to Apple.
    This is unacceptable and disgraceful!

The problem is not iOS 8. It's more likely a hardware failure or a failed installation. Google "iPhone DFU mode". Put the phone in DFU mode and restore it as a new device. Do NOT restore your backup yet. Test it. If it doesn't work, it's a hardware problem. If it works, restore your backup. If it fails at that point, then the problem is contained in your backup. Wipe it and set it up as new. Don't attempt to use that backup.

  • AirPort Express not working and Apple refuse to help.......

*post if you have the same problem*
I bought an AirPort Express base station, with the intension of turning my work network into a wireless network, as it said i could on the back of the box.
My work network has 802.1X wired security. Thats good because so does my AirPort Express base station, on the back of the box it says that it has 802.1X security..... So whats the problem you ask? I cant find any 802.1X security setting on AirPort Express...
If anyone can help then I would be very very very greatful, Apple dont want to know , so I hope you guys can help.
    thanks if you can help....
(btw Apples product support is the worst I have ever had).

Hello Pete_B. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I cant find any 802.1X security setting on AirPort Express...
To find the 802.1X security settings, you will need to select either WPA2 Enterprise or WPA/WPA2 Enterprise for your Wireless Security type, and then select the RADIUS option within the AirPort Utility.
AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > AirPort > Access Control

  • My iPhone 4 is only 14 months old over dropped very well looke after, one day the lock button stops then the volume buttons, now the headphone port does not work and the battery lasts about 4 hours after full charge I still have a year left on my contract

My phone is 2 months out of warranty, it's never been dropped or miss used yet the past week every day something has gone wrong with it. First the lock button stopped then the side volume buttons. Then the head phone port when I putt headphones in the phone turns the volume
Down automatically and it won't turn up until I take my headphones back out. The battery lasts 4 hours max after a full charge and today I took my phone off the docking charger and all my music has gone! The phone is breaking down more and more everyday what is going on! I know people who have had there iPhones years an non of this happen! I still have a year left on my contract too!

Who is your carrier and what is your coverage with them? If you are with say Verizon, and have Total Equipment Coverage or Extended Coverage, they will swap it out for you under Manufacturer Warrantee.

  • Car Charger not working and unable to replace

    Hi all,
I purchased car charger for my BB Curve. The charger is dead from the time I bought it. The shop owner @ Noida, India passes the buck on BB service center for replacement. The service center is saying that accessory replacement is the task of shop owner. Am unable to connect to 1800-425-3720.
Can anyone help me to sort this out.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Coupled with your local laws, whatever documentation you received at the time of purchase will govern the transaction. Review that for the return policies to determine exactly what it should be. It is impossible to directly answer your question because it will vary based on your specific situation. If I had to guess, I'd say that the shop is not being as helpful as they should be.
    Good luck!
