Held on accessing values in a JSP

Hi,
I have JSP with some input fields embedded in it. Consider the input fields as follows. Call the JSP as index.jsp
<input type = "text" name = "userid">
<input type = "text" name = "email">
I also have a submit button which passes control to another JSP. On the click of submit. I need to get the values entered by the user. and store them in a Hashtable and pass this Hashtable to the other JSP.
Something like this
<% Hashtable ht = new Hashtable();
ht.put("userid", (value from the i/p field));
ht.put("email", (value from the i/p field));
session.setAttribute("MyHashTable", ht);
%>
How do I access the values entered by the user in the current JSP. Could please provide me with a solution.

Well the need for storing the information in a hashtable is that the second JSP needs as i/p the hastable containing the name-value pairs. Why I can't use request.getParameter is simply because the number of parameters from the previous page differs. What I mean is that I want my second JSP to be independent and linked to the any other JSP. The calling JSP has to pass these names and values as a hashtable okay. So with this in mind i need to acces the the values in the previous JSPs and store them in a hashtable. and pass this hashtable to the other JSP. This is what I am trying to acheive. The code that I have written is as follows but is not working.

As long as you're unable to compile Java code, please use the 'New to Java' forum. This is really trival.
To ease writing, debugging and maintenance, I highly recommend you to write Java code in Java classes rather than JSP files. Start learning Servlets.

Help needed urgently to get the values from the jsp page.

I am using ms-access and jsp.
my database structure is as given below:

now this is exactly a leave apply scenario where a page is displayed and the user has to fill in the details to apply leave.then the approver has to approve that leaves so even, he should get the details in his account.

this will display both the rows but when i try to retrieve the values into update.jsp using the code given below it gives me only one value which is the first 1002.

but i need both the values to be inserted into the update.jsp only then the approver will be able to approve the leaves individually with respect to the m_emp_no.

The reason for this is that each textfield you generate must have a unique name rather than all have the same name

(((((((note you would be better off long term to put your business logic in a servlet and dispatch to the JSP page which will only have the responsiblity to display the data.
Also, connection pooling is better than the above.

How to get the value in one JSP page to another?

Hi,
I have problems in passing the value around in JSP. I have two JSP pages as below:
test1.jsp
I try to get the vaule from my textbox by using:
String strUser = request.getParameter ("strUserName");
Then i print out by using: out.print(strUser); then i can get the value and put on my page (For example, i get ABC on my page).
test2.jsp
Next, i want to get the value from strUser (which mean that the one i already display on page in test1.jsp, ABC) to insert into my table by using INSERT INTO statement. Then i try by using
String strUser1 = request.getParameter ("strUser");
Is it possbile for me to do that? I cannot get anything to insert into my table. Then i tried out.print(strUser1); then i found that i get NULL value.
Could you please give me some guidance?

When i click on the BID button in the logged_page.jsp then i always get the last record and save into my table and that is not what i want to. i want to get the result on the same row as the BID button that just click and save to my table.

How to access java method in JSP

I need to access java class (abstract portal component) method doContent() in a JSP which is under PORTAL-INF/jsp folder.
I did

Aclass is coming as autofill/prepopulated with cntrl+space
Till this time, it is working. no errors. But when I do

a. (a dot) no methods are populating (autofill..cntrl+space) or If I forcebly add method a.doContent(req,res)... at runtime its giving error.
It's not only with doContent method... Its with any simple methods in that class or any other class.
(Other than doContent method in the APC java class are prepopulating/autofilling but giving error in runtime)
Can anyone help me... how to access java method in JSP.
I already gone through many SDN forum post... and implemented too---but no use I refered below forum thread

1st. The classes must be in packages. 2nd, the package that they are in must be under the WEB-INF/classes directory. 3rd Look on google and/or this site for web application deployment

Urgent-how to access custom tag from jsp tag

I have a problem accessing a custom tag from a jsp expression.
Details: I have a custom tag that returns a string variable. I need to access that variable from jsp expression <%%>.
Can any body help me?

Tags don't "return" values as in the normal sense.
They can only support TEI (Tag Extra Information) that just stuffs a declared variable into the page's state.
For example, if the tag class had a public method called getValue(), you could do the following:

          I'm using chinese windows nt 4.0 and weblogic 5.1 sp6.When I did not set
          weblogic.jsp.encoding to GB2312 , when the jsp file contain's chinese , the
          output will be error .And when I did not set it , the output is correct, but
          when I use request.getParameter("SomeFormElement")(the element inputed
          chinese), the return value is error.
          How should I set weblogic.jsp.encoding value to satisfy all this problem?
          When I set the value to ISO-8859, there is an exception:
          java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException: Charset: 'ISO-8859' not recognized,
          and there is no alias for it in the weblogic.httpd.charsets property. So
          What's the available value for weblogic.jsp.encoding in web application?

i think the best way is to create java beans ,in that bean call your EJB ,
and check the validation over there.
and make that bean scope to session.
in each and everypage try to check the session ,if it is not valid then forward to your login page...
otherwise continue to give access to him like guest

Message bundles accessed from JSF and JSP pages

I'm developing a localized JSF application. It is working pretty well until now.
These are my message files:
mensagens.properties
mensagens_en_US.propertiesThis is how they're configured in faces-config.xml:

my web application. This page is displaying ok but I also need to access the
message bundles as I'm able to access in the normal jsp with the JSF components.
As you should know I can't use something like the above code with an +<h:outputText>+
to access the messages because this is a JSF component and I'll not be able to use
JSF components with this raw jsp page.
So, my question is: how do I access my localized messages from a raw jsp page? I
suppose there should be a way to do this, but unfortunately I started programming
to the web world in Java with JSF, not JSP, so I don't know how to do this with
JSP.

Hello, BalusC. Thank you for your help. We're almost there. After I have included the jstl-1.2.jar you provided me I can use the fmt tag and access message bundles from my raw jsp page (even though I had to provide other message bundles instead of the ones that I use in the other jsf pages, but it's better than nothing).
Now there just on problem to be fixed. The jsp page is not aware when I change the locale of my application. I change this locale in a jsf page.
I have this component:

You do know that the JSP runs on the server and generates HTML, including Javascript, that is executed on the client, don't you?

Passing values from a jsp to a servlet

I have a jsp which has a search form for customers, first it lets you search by colour, giving options of red, white or all, then gives three options of what price. Im trying to get my servlet to read these choices, and display the results. I have a statement in my serlvet which says:

I need to know how to define which option has been chosen, and have the chosen results displayed. I tried an 'if' statement but it didnt seem to work. Thanks

How can I share values between different jsp pages?

I'm doing a jsp, bc4j application (JDeveloper 9.0.3), and I need to share some values between different jsp pages. To do this,
I have used the tag <jsp:usebean.....></jsp:usebean> in this way:
on pageone.jsp
<jsp:useBean id="param" scope="session" class="MyPackage.Parameters" ></jsp:useBean>
on pagetwo.jsp
<jsp:useBean id="param" scope="session" class="MyPackage.Parameters" ></jsp:useBean>
and so on, in order to refer to the same instance of the class "Parameters".
After deploying, the application works well only if the client is the same pc where the AS resides, otherwise the variables of "Parameters" are null.
Please, could you help me?

I am seeing an indication on 9.0.3 that static includes are not static, but instead always dynamic. The compiler generates a call to the included page, and doesn't include the content in the calling page as it should.

Get Javascript Value in a JSP page

Let's say this is my javascript function in a html page

How do i get the costForm.elements.length value in another jsp page. Coz the html page has dynamic rows by the users. and i need the values in the jsp page to know how many rows the user created.
using normal request.getParameter("costForm.elements.length") doesn't work

request.getParameter() will only get data that's been submitted thru a form or the query string of a URL. You'd have to record the length in a hidden field to read it on the back end, and then you can't just loop thru the fields like that in JSP on the server anyway, unless you have all fields named with a prefix and number, like: field1, field2, field3, etc.

How to invoke a jsp value to another jsp

Hi i have a problem on how to invoke a jsp page from jsp page.
I have this function in index.jsp:

<div class="tabbertab" title="Price" id="price"><h2>Tab 2</h2><p> <form name="test">There are three tabs in search_date jsp, the above codes are for price tab.
Im going to click on an image link in index.jsp, it will direct me to the price tab instead of two other tabs. How can i achieve this?

This appears to be more of a javascript than java/JSP question.
If you are trying to pass a parameter to the jsp search_date.jsp, you need to follow the standard syntax for parameters , with ? for the first and & for any subsequent ones..
ie
search_date.jsp?firstParam=1&secondParam=2
so possibly you meant:
window.location="search_date.jsp?myParam=" + document.forms['test'].getElementById('price');
However I am not sure.

Rate and accessable value is not displaying for the tax invoice output

Hello All,
Rate and accessable value is not displaying for the tax invoice output. Rest of all outputs for invoices shows Rate and accessable value.
Scenerio is free of charge sales order (samples) removing the goods from pant so excise invoice has been created and also updated. but for tax invoice out put rate and access value is not displaying.
Pricing procedure: In pricing procedure account keys have not been maintained because there is not gl account upadation during billing for free of charge delivery.

You can add values to that transient column programatically,either by getiing the row from the iterator and then row.setAttribute('Column_name','Value');
Or providing value to it in the SQL...
