Help about Interfaces in Java

I need some help with Interfaces since I'm really new to OOP.
I have 1 interface, 1 class implementing the interface and 1 main function. Here is the structure:
public interface t_action
public boolean isvalid(int a, int b);
public class sec implements t_action
public boolean isvalid(int a, int b)
/* Implmentation of this method */
public class main()
public static void main(string args[])
boolean valid = false;
/* Need to call isvalid in public class sec
and assign it to the "valid" variable above
}My Question is:
How do i call the method "isvalid" in class sec that implements the t_action interface? I need to assign it to my variable "valid" in class main
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Hey all...
Thanks for your contribution.
As I said earlier here: "I'm new to Java" so cut me some slack!!!
I've been doing C programming all my life so java is similar but quite foreign to me since I started learning it recently on my own
If this were a normal class and not an interface, it would be:
class_name myclass = new class_name();
myclass.isvalid(a, b);But why is it:
interface_name i = new class_implementing_interface();
i.isvalid(a,b);Thanks

so I make some conditions and algorithm below..
1. when a user login,the password is encrypted.at this point,cleartext(id) and encryption (M,N) are involve.
2. then the key is changed based on algorithm.
3.the key changed by key(id) is received and the original text should be encrypted.
the algorithm
1. the original text x1.x2.x3.x4.x5.x6.x7.x8 (64 bits)
2. encypt the password
a. Each character is changed into an int type by the ASCII code, and let the 1st bit be an odd number parity bit.

anybody has an idea to help me with the sample program?
thanks in advance...

just ask about a simple program how to receive a
password from somebody and change it to a key..and
then confirm it with DES.Once again I have a problem understanding what you are asking.
Are you trying to use the password as a key to encrypt some 'standard thing' and place this encrypted value in a database? If so then look in the JCE for 'password based encryption' such as PBEWithMD5AndDes. This seems back to front to me but I can see nothing wrong with the approach since the 'standard thing' you would encrypt is in effect a key. If this is for a commercial application then I would find a security expert to evaluate your proposal!
In my experience it is more normal to encrypt the user's password with DES and store the result in the database. To do this just look in the JCE for DES encryption and consider using DES with CBC and PKCS5 padding. Also, consider encrypting the concatenation of the user's 'user name' with the password as this will (almost certainly) avoid having two encrypted values in the database that are the same even if two users have the same password.
For both of these you might consider using Base64 or Hex to turn you encrpted bytes into ASCII characters before trying to store them in your DB.

• Using component interface in Java

i know working and programming with component interface but no knowledge about java
please give me steps to use component interface in java.
Shiv

1. Identify/Create Component Interface which you want to access in Java
2. Apply security for your Component Interface
3. Open the Component Interface in Application Designer
4. In Application Designer, select Build > PeopleSoft APIs
5. A dialog box comes with caption "Build PeopleSoft API Bindings"
6. Select Build checkbox for Java Classes Frame and give a target directory
7. Select OK, This will generate PeopleSoft API classes, dont panic if it takes some time
8. Right click on component interface, select Generate Java Template, this step will generate Java Template
9. If you are not familiar with compiling and setting up CLASSPATH in Java then it is better you ask any of your colleagues who knows Java.
10. Once CLASSPATH is set properly you can compile the generate Java Template without any problems
11.after compilation you will get a .class file and you need to execute that .class file
12. When you execute the .class file it will ask application server name, application server port, application user name and application password.
If you give all the information correctly then you will be accessing CI in Java.
Let me know if you need more help on this.

• About interface mapping

what are there case about interface mapping?
i knew that the following:
outbound to inbound
abstract to abstract.
what else the case?

Hi joy zheng  ,
These r the details about interface mapping :
Interface Mappings
You can define mappings for an interface pair (source and target interface) by using message interfaces and message types in the Integration Repository.You can also define the corresponding mappings when the source or target interface is an IDoc, an RFC, or another interface connected by an adapter.
When defining mapping programs for request, response, or fault messages, the definition is first separated from the interfaces that reference the corresponding message types. Furthermore, you can reuse a message type for multiple interfaces. This means that the simple definition of a mapping program is not sufficient to establish a connection (that is based on the assignment of outbound and inbound interfaces).
This role is undertaken by the interface mapping:
● An interface mapping specifies the corresponding mapping programs for request, response, or fault messages for a selected interface pair. You use an interface mapping to register mappings for an interface pair.
● You can also specify multiple mapping programs to be executed one after the other in the case of requests and responses for an interface mapping.
You can also define multiple interface mappings for the same interface pair, to provide multiple variants in the Integration Repository. At configuration time, the customer can select the appropriate mapping in an interface determination and save it in the Integration Directory
Use :
Interface mappings register your mapping program for an interface pair in the Integration Repository. If you require a mapping at runtime, it is sufficient to select the interface mapping for the interface pair at configuration time . The Integration Server uses the interface mapping to identify associated mapping programs for request messages, response messages, fault messages, or all three.
Features
Executing Multiple Mapping Programs for One Direction
By using an interface mapping you can execute multiple mapping programs consecutively for the transformation of a request or response message. In such cases, an interface mapping comprises multiple steps for which the following applies:
● The steps are executed in the sequence specified (from top to bottom). The result of the mapping program from the previous step is forwarded to the mapping program of the subsequent step.
● Each step can reference a mapping program that executes a 1:1, 1:n, n:1, or an m:n transformation. In the case of multi-mappings (1:n, n:1, or m:n), the previous step must create the same number of messages that the subsequent step expects.
● Multi-mappings use one envelope to put all messages in one structure. If one of the steps references a multi-mapping program, all subsequent steps must use the same envelope.
The mapping for a request message comprises two message mapping programs: one 1:1 transformation and one 1:n transformation. Since the latter message mapping uses the multi-mapping envelope for both the target message and the source message, the message mapping for the 1:1 transformation must also create a transformation result with a multi-mapping envelope.
You do not strictly need to divide up one direction of the whole mapping into different steps. However, this enables all the message formats in one system landscape to be mapped to a central message format, for example. This results in less mapping programs being required because you no longer need to be able to map all the different message formats to each other.
Activities
1. Create your interface mapping on the design maintenance screen of the Integration Builder (see also: Creating an Object).
You can also create multiple interface mappings for the same interface pair.
2. Enter the source and target interfaces that require a mapping of the request message, the response message, the fault message, or all three, in the table of the same name. The following restrictions apply:
○ If you want to use the interface mapping in a transformation step in an integration process, you must only specify abstract message interfaces. Furthermore, all objects (integration process, interface mapping, and all objects referenced by the interface mapping) must be in the same software component version. If you want to reference objects from underlying software component versions, you must access the objects from the Basis Objects branch (in the navigation tree or using an input help) (see also: Underlying Software Component Versions).
○ If you want to map multiple messages to each other by using a multi-mapping, you can only specify asynchronous interfaces (for further restrictions, see: Multi-Mappings). If any message interfaces are missing, you can also create them by using the functionCreate New Object ().
If the interface cannot be imported or cannot be created in the Integration Repository (in the case of an external adapter, for example), you must enter the interface names manually. However, it is not possible to check the technical name in this case.
3. To import the properties of the interfaces, choose Read Interfaces. The table in the lower area displays tab pages for the request message, response message, and if available, for the fault message, for each mode of the interfaces (either synchronous or asynchronous).
4. To develop an external mapping program, export the XSD schema of the respective request or response message as a zip file after you have imported the interfaces. The zip file can contain multiple schema files that reference each other, for example in a multi-mapping. In this case, the schema with the global message element has the name MainSchema.
5. To reference a mapping program for the respective message, you have the following options:
○ Select an existing mapping program from the Integration Repository by using the input help (). If this is a message mapping, the default setting of the input help only displays those message mappings that are found using the source and target message in the Integration Repository (in multi-mappings, the first source and target messages are used as the search criteria). However, you can also display any number of message mappings, for example, because you are constructing a mapping from several mapping programs with intermediate instances which have no message types.
○ You can create message mappings directly from the interface mapping. To do this, select the mapping type Message Mapping in the Type column. Position the cursor in the Name column and choose the function Create New Message Mapping () in the Mapping Program frame. The Integration Builder copies the specifications of the messages and their occurrence directly from the interface mapping.
An interface mapping can only reference mapping programs that belong to the same or an underlying software component version of the interface mapping. This ensures that the mapping program can be shipped together with the interface mapping (see: Software Logistics).
6. If you are not using a mapping for a fault message, you can execute multiple mapping programs in succession for request and response messages:
○ To insert an additional line for a mapping program, choose .
○ To delete the registration for a mapping program, choose .
At runtime, the mapping programs are executed from top to bottom.
7.      Save the interface mapping.
The following web-site gives complete details about interface mapping :

Need help in my assignment, Java programing?
It is said that there is only one natural number n such that n-1 is a square and

OK I'll bite.
I assume that this is some kind of assignment.
What is the program supposed to do?
1. Figure out the value of N
2. Given an N determine if it is the correct value
I would expect #1, but then again this seem to be a strange programming assignment to me.
// additions followI see by the simulpostings that it is indeed #1.
So I will give the tried and true advice at the risk of copyright infringement.
get out a paper and pencil and think about how you would figure this out by hand.
The structure of a program will emerge from the mists.
Now that I think about it that advice must be in public domain by now.

• A question about design of Java Application on java card.

Hi every one,
I have a question about design of Java applet on java card,
There is an application on my card that it is not java card, it include a DF and some EF under DF, I would like to know if I want to have this application on java card ,how can I design DF and EF on java card ,I mean is there any relation between DF,EF with applet and file? for example can I say DF is same as applet and EF is same as file?
I'll appreciate for any help .
yours sincerely,
orchid

hi
you can write a java class for DF.
an instance of DF class have some EF objects.
for example,
samples/com/sun/javacard/samples/JavaPurse/CyclicFile.java
implements ISO 7816 CyclicFile ( EF )

• Interfaces in Java

I have a doubt about interfaces. All interface in Java has empty methods, I mean,the methods dont have any implementation. So, to use these methods, there has to be a class that implements this interface in order these methods to have an implementation. Here is my question: there are some Interfaces in Java like java.sql.Statement that dont have any class that implements its methods and in spite of this, I can call the methods of the interface. How is this possible?
Thanks

Yes there is always an implementation. You just aren't necessarily exposed to the actual class which implements the interface, but you can tell what the class is like this:
Statement stmt = ...; // get your Statement however you are doing it now
System.out.println("Actual class implementing Statement interface in this case is: " + stmt.getClass());

• Question about the new JAVA Update J2SE 5.0 Release 3

Here is some info about this update:
Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 allows applications and applets developed for the J2SE 5.0 platform to run on Mac OS X v 10.4.2 and later.
This update does NOT CHANGE the DEFAULT VERSION of Java on your Mac from Java 1.4.2 to J2SE 5.0, though Java applications that require J2SE 5.0 may specifically request it. You can change the preferred Java version for applications and applets by using the new Java Preferences utility. This utility is installed by the J2SE 5.0 update at /Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302412
HERE IS MY QUESTION---
This update makes me nervous cause I don't know much about Java. IF I change my default version to this new 5.0 will it mean that some of the older Java stuff on the web won't work? Should I just download this and ignore it? What should I do about this update?
Thanks for the help!
Renée

I too seem to be suffering issues with loading web pages after the 10.4.3/Java 5.0 update. I have reinstalled both updates, changed the java settings, emptied all the caches, and tried various combinations thereof, and I still have problems with web pages loaded. most of the problems appear to be related to rendering frames and images - In fact a couple of web sites I navigate to (upon looking at the source for the page" state "It appears your browser does not support frames." I think this is something broken in the latest release. Unfortunately, I cannot reinstall the latest copy of Safari, because the installer states "This version of Safari cannot be installed. It requires version 10.4.2." I guess I am in a pickle until Apple comes out with another update. BTW I have some pages that Safari will not render but IE running on the same box will. I also noticed that the problem propagated to other applications that use Java....For instance the Dashboard widget from google (Google Maps) no longer renders the tiled (framed?) map pieces...instead you get the ubiquitous "?" icon.

• Why no indication of 5.0.1 on Help About Firefox?

I had 5.0 installed a check of Help About Firefox showed it as up to date. Checking FileHippo.com showed 5.0.1, How come no indication of this in Help About Firefox?
Thanks

It is because Firefox 5.0 is still the current update for Windows and Linux users as the 5.0.1 was really only for to have a couple work around's for Mac OSX users as in a font issue for OSX 10.7 that may crash Firefox and a Java plugin loading issue on OSX 10.5. ([https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forums/contributors/707078 They say OSX 10.6 but really meant OSX 10.5])
FileHippo was not aware it was only really for MAC OSX.

Because this is a commonly used bit of code, you also want to reuse this cursor in other bits of sql and so you want to include it like table in a bit of sql and join that refcursor to other tables.
It's not as easy as you might hope but you can probably achieve this with pipelined functions.
Is it a direction that code should be going down? yes, eventually. I like the idea of pulling commonly used bits of code into a SQL statement especially into the WITH section, provided it could be used efficiently by the CBO.
Is it worth the effort given what you have to do currently to implement it? possibly not.
what else could you do? construct the sql statement independently of the thing that used it and reuse that sql statement rather than the refcursor it returns?
