HELP! answer A.S.A.P

ok, i was installing ilife to my mac mini when it said i needed to delete stuff on macintosh HD. so i did and apparantly i accidentaly deleted something that lets my computer download, like, before i deleted it, you could see the box you click to download the program, but after i deleted it, it was a picture of a document.

Download Pacifist to your computer, and then open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. Enter 'hdiutil attach ' into the Terminal window without the quote marks and drag the downloaded dmg file into the Terminal; after pressing Enter, use Pacifist to extract the applications you deleted from the computer's original disks followed by rerunning the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.
If you deleted the Terminal, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, move the Pacifist.dmg file onto your desktop, and then enter the following:
do shell script "hdiutil attach ~/Desktop/Pacifist.dmg"
and proceed with Pacifist as above. If you deleted both the Terminal and the Script Editor, reinstall Mac OS X.

On the menu click on - Settings -> Products -> of a Partner -> Activate

The original poster is the only one that can award you points, and it seems that in both your examples the original posters clicked the "Answered" button but didn't think it was worth assigning points to you.
Now I don't think it's a BIG deal because those "points" don't have any intrinsic value. At times, you'll find the regulars joking about 'how many for the stuffed animal' or 'how many for the next free ugrade', but that's all just that -- fooling around. But in a certain sense, the point system *does* have its merits. If you, as a questioner, are given two wildly different answers, one from someone with "2 posts, no points" and one from a person with "5,340 posts, 15,335 points" -- who'd you trust?
(Then again, the point system is "global" on the entire Adobe forum; meaning if you are an 'expert' in, say, Illustrator, and gained a lot of points over there, you can mess with the system by answering in other forums as well. "We Regulars" don't really care about the points. I think.)
(As for my lost post count, points, avatar, and private messages history: ... I No Longer Care. Given all the other shortcomings of this forum's software (Jive), it seems the wisest thing to do.)

I am finding difficulty with the tabstrip control.i have created 3 tabs one for mara,marc and mard tables.i have to display few fields of these tables in their respective subscreens.using the material number i have to get the values from the table and display it in the respective subscreens.i am getting the output.but if i try to give another value for the material number it is not accepting...it holds the same value i gave before.i tried to use refresh,clear to clear the internal tabes i am using to fetch data.but i am not getting it....also
i want to use f3 function key to go back even if i havent given the value for mandatory fields. can u help me?helpful answers will be rewarded....

I gave two of Tom Gewecke replies the helpful thumbs up.
This is not reflected in the summary at the top.
I had to "solve" the question myself
and wanted to (did) post the solution so
the the thread would look and be resolved
but could not mark the post a solved
so a person still had to hunt.
Should be a way to do that.
The only post marked solved was an offshoot
based on a misconception that had nothing to do
with my question.
And its weird that the first sentence

I am not logged on and disappears when I do.

There clearly isn't, otherwise one would imagine it would be there to see. If one assumes that the administrators of the site know what they are doing, they would hardly invent a system of points (however accrued) and levels (whatever they mean) and then go to the trouble of preventing us from seeing the resulting data unless there were a good reason.
As for the supposition that most posters mark their thread as answered without marking who gave the answer and thus awarding points, that has not been my experience overall so far. When I last checked the discussion in which I primarily participate, of the last 50 threads, 18 were marked solved and of those 14 had points awarded by way of solved or helpful tabs.
I never thought about collecting stats from the old system, but the rate of threads being marked seems about the same now as it did before. The only difference I see is that the OP now has control over saying what worked, if they choose to do so, where I would personally prefer the option to permit other people to indicate positive contributions as well. Of course we can still do that by posting 'great idea......!' messages for everyone to see even if we don't have voting rights anymore.

I see the "Helpful answers available: 5. Correct answers available: 1" statement on top of unanswered threads. Even though there are no helpful or correct answers to the question. Why ?

That statement is a description of what the author of the thread has available to them.
The phrasing of such a description could possibly be better, but it is what it is.
The person that originally posted the question to the forums can toggle up to five responses as "helpful" and can choose to mark one response as "correct".
Of course, that action can (and often is) simply ignored.

Can someone tell me where to find info about awarding points on these Adobe forums. And helpful answers, etc, how it works? I am familiar, for example, with Experts Exchange where there is similar points, etc. In Experts Exchange, for example, points can be split, etc.
I have received much helpful, invaluable, assistance here and I want to give points appropriately.

And, if one has posted a question, and say Harm answers it, and then later on adds useful info in another reply, the poster can then award him yet again.
There have been some humorous awards around these parts, since Adobe went to Jive with the salami and the points. I've seen times where a poster would nail an issue, and then another would reply that the OP is a dunce and needs to read the manual, before posting. The second reply would end up getting the big points, and the poster, who actually answered the question gets hosed.
On some posts, there might be 4 - 5 correct answers, and then the OP comes back, as says something like "ha, I figured it out all by myself, so none of you gets any points." Most often, that self-discovered solution had been suggested by most of the others, but had obviously been completely overlooked - or maybe those OP's are just having "sport" with us?
One very long recent thread had many correct replies, to the OP and to additional questions. All should have qualified for something kind of "atta' boy," but then someone replied - "never saw that before," and got the Correct Answer.
We had one post recently, where keyboard shortcuts were asked for. A poster pointed to the location of all default keyboard shortcuts in Help and pointed out that these could also be customized. No points. Then, several others chimed in with shortcuts, like L for Love, etc., and the points all went to them.
In general, most of us do not follow pts., or really care about them (except for banter in the Lounge), and getting the OPs' issues solved is "payment" enough. That is what matters to us. We end up making light of the pts., and discussion is just a release for most of us - a little bit of humor, when we've been concentrating heavily on someone's problems.

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>About=>Carrier?

On top of all that (*which I thought I understood for a moment, but now I'm not so sure...) I've just had one of those revalatory insights:
I now realise why the FAQs all went - they had to. The very idea of finding a correct answer on your own runs completely contrary to the idea of awarding brownie points, doesn't it? I mean, we couldn't possibly have anybody actually looking something up for themselves, because then there would be no mechanism for allocating the person responsible for creating the FAQ with the 'correct answer' points. So it was inevitable, really...
I rather get the impression that whoever came up with these hair-brained ideas about how a forum ought to work never actually participated in using one. And the same goes for anybody who chose to use the software subsequently for their own one. And the more I look at it, the worse it gets; this garbage ought to sink without trace.
*Add answers at your own peril, the workings of the point system are as yet undocumented and you may risk losing answer-points already earned since any added information after the CORRECT answer will constitute incorrect and possibly heretic answers.
This is where it gets even more confusing - certainly conceptually. Can you have a correct answer and a more correct answer? Or does the more correct answer make the correct answer more wrong? And is that the same as less right? I don't think that I'll lose any points for adding this because it doesn't make the definitive answer any more or less correct - because correct is clearly a moveable feast anyway and this is a tangential point. I can't have any points for that though, because the software doesn't allow for vector analysis of responses...

Complaint about stupid Firefox Help answer

I was looking for help in closing individual windows in Firefox. The most pertinent help answer simply explained that Firefox
might open multiple wndows, but didn't tell me how to close them, except to close Firefox.
You know, this current version sucks. As much as I dislike MS Internet Explorer, I'm not sure I can continue to put up with FF's multiple frustrations and might have to switch.

If you open a firefox window, simply open a new firefox(with bookmarks, plugins etc), so if you like to close it you close firefox.
Τhis is not done with the tabs, because each tab can close individual, without closing the firefox window, ie firefox.

Help ANSWERING a Fax? (USB modem)

I can send faxes a-ok (finally... after switching USB ports), but I'm having a bear of a time GETTING faxes.
I'm using the same phone line I do for my phone, which shouldn't make any difference. I'm plugged-in, and my line is clear. The phone rings and regardless of whether I set fax prefs to "answer after 1 ring" or use the fax icon in the menu bar to "answer now", the stats says "...answering..." but then NOTHING happens.
I get no fax. There is no status of the fax in my fax log window, or console logs, and it never hangs up! So, in order to use my phone again, I have to physically un-plug the line from my computer. Even then, if I re-plug it back in too soon, it messes up my phone line.
Argh. Any ideas?

I'm also enountering similar problems on a Santa Rosa MacBook; receiving faxes via the Apple USM modem doesn't work (the console fax log shows that the ringing is recognized, but the call isn't answered). Problem occurs both using Apple's built-in fax SW as well as with PageSender.
On one occasion, it seemed as if unplugging/replugging the modem and then reconfiguring the fax device helped.
I reported it on Apple's bug tracking system, where it is still showing as a serious open bug. I believe this is a modem driver issue and hope Apple gets around to fixing it soon.

If you don't have access to your rescue email account (you won't be able to change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.

HELP ANSWER ASAP PLEASE PLEASE THIS IS URGENT!

Okay maybe not sooo urgent but sort of. Please answer ASAP. Okay here is what happened while I was on my iPad (actually my daughter's iPad) but when she asked to buy a song I said that she could. So she decided to buy "Payphone" by Adam Levine the clean version. So after she clicked "buy song" she entered her password correctly and it accepted it. It said it was downloading and we went to where to see how long it takes for it to download. Then after is finished then she went to her music app (the one that came on the iPad). And it wasn't there! She tried it on her iPod and it did not work! I don't know what the problem is. I saw her and her apple ID was typed correctly. Please help!?!?!?!? Thanks to anyone who answers in advance.

I'm really in need of some answers. I hope someone can help.
I bought a Macbook yesterday, the basic 13" white version. I had an ibook G4 before.
My first question is about "offgassing", giving off that new computer smell. It's really bad, my whole place smells like it and I feel sick and have a headache from it. I read that it would go away if I leave it running for a few days, so I put it in an empty room with the window open and just leave it running. How long will it take to go away? Will it go away completely? Did any of you have the same problem? I can't remember having this problem with the ibook although when the fan would turn on (which was rarely) or I took the battery out, it smelt a little like this.
My second question is about the fan. It's been on the whole time I've been using it, pretty much right away, and never goes off. Is this normal? My ibook fan NEVER turned on unless it was incredibly overheated. It's the fan that is at the back of the computer under the screen. Is there a way to turn this off?
My third question is about how loud it is. I was surprised at how loud it is, my ibook was so quiet. Is this normal? Is there a way to make it quieter? I loved how my ibook was so quiet so I was disappointed.
My fourth question is about the brightness of the screen. On average, it's a lot brighter than the ibook. I kept my ibook brightness level at the very lowest, I like it darker, but the lowest level on my Macbook is really, really bright. How can I make it go darker? And why did they do this?

I moved from an iBook to a MB and I had none of these problems.
I have set up two MB's directly out of the box and have never heard of the 'smell' issue. That sounds a bit rubbish!
I would call Apple regarding this and the other issues. Are you close to an Apple store?
If so then it's be good to take a trip to check out some other MB's. Have a look at the brightess and noise levels. Comapre them to yours.
While you're there have a chat about the fan issue and the 'offgassing'.
Taking your MB out of the box and setting it up should be one of the fun bits. Doesn't sound like you're having much fun!?

Can I? I don't participate in many forums and I noticed my last couple of questions have been viewed but with no responses. I have thanked people but never checked "helpful" or "solved".
The answers I have been given in the past have saved me a lot of grief and $.

I'm just a big thanker. 8 out of 10 times I don't get thanks (points) for my helping someone here, but neither do waiters or taxi drivers. That's just the nature of a service-based economy, so you're like almost everyone else in that regard. What sets you apart, apparently, is that you even thought about this.
(I would say that it's highly unlikely that people have avoided answering your questions here because you haven't awarded points in the past. If you were an ingrate or rude, maybe that would be different. More likely, your question wasn't seen by anyone who could answer it. It happens.)
