Help, doulbe lines in still images after output

Hi All,
Please help me. I have an hour doc, anamorphic with lots of photos using FCP motion for movements, zooms in/outs etc. After I output (using QT.mov, not self contained movie) and then let compressor 4 compress, into MPEG2 for DVD authoring. A lot of images turn jittery, shakey or have double lines. A friend said it might be interlacing problems. We tried different settings on bitrate, it did not fix. In order to fix the shake/jittery/double line images on my stills, I have had to go into each photo, find the original, copy & then paste attributes on the same photo in the timeline. The trouble is I have more than 200 photos in this timeline, do you have a clue why this is happening? And is there a short cut? I have a macbook pro, OS 10.5.6, 2.4 GHz processor, 2gh of memory. Please please help me.
thanks in advance.

Dear Nick:
I did as suggested in canvas, I changed size to 100% & turned off aspect ratio, in my easy setup sequence preset:
DV NTSC 48 kHZ
capture preset: DV NTSC 48 kHZ
device control preset: FireWires NTSC
Playback Output Video: Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Playback Output Audio: FireWire DV
Edit to tape/PTV Output Video Same as Playback
Edit to tape/PTV Output Audio Same as Playback
When I output from FCP, Export Quicktime Movie
setting: current settings
include: audio & video
markers none
make movie self contained, checked
once I get a file, I then use compression 4 to turn the file into
custom: MPEG-2 extension m2v, stream usage SD DVD, quality two pass VBR Best
7.7 Mbps, motion estimation is good
(I customed this b/c the preset that came w/ compressor did not fix the problem of double lines and blurred photos)
thank you in advance for you input.

  • Help with panning a still image

    Looking for settings advice/help!
I want to pan and zoom some simple high quality images in a sequence then export it for web/computer use as an HD 1920x1080. I have tried a number of sequence pre-sets (currently using ProRes 1920x1080 set to 50p (don't really want an interlaced sequence as it will only be still images).
However with this sequence and all the others I've tried the movement is a bit jerky both in the canvas and when I export. Altering the playback video quality doesn't help and I've made sure I've rendered everything. I've got rendering as high precision and motion set to best but still jerky.
Source images are Photoshop exports as Tiffs 4288x2848. I'm running FCP 6.0.6 / 10.5.8 and the computer is a MacPro 3.2 8 Core with 32GB of RAM and e-SATA fast raid drives. I don't think it's a lack of grunt in the hardware but maybe I'm choosing the wrong sequence??
    Any help much appreciated.

    From the FCP Manual:
To smooth the speed at the starting and ending points of a motion path:
1 Choose Mark > Previous > Keyframe until the playhead is over the starting keyframe of
your clip. (You can also press Option-K.)
If you navigate too far past the starting keyframe, you can navigate back by choosing
Mark > Next > Keyframe (or pressing Shift-K).
2 In the Canvas, Control-click the starting keyframe and choose Ease In/Ease Out from
    the shortcut menu.
The keyframe now has a velocity handle.
3 Drag the velocity handle away from the starting keyframe to adjust the acceleration at
the beginning of the motion path.
This causes the clip to start moving slowly and then ramp up to full speed.
4 Choose Mark > Next > Keyframe (or press Shift-K) to navigate to the ending keyframe
    of your motion path.
5 In the Canvas, Control-click the ending keyframe and choose Ease In/Ease Out from the
    shortcut menu.
6 Drag the velocity handle of the ending keyframe toward the keyframe.
This causes the clip to decelerate as it approaches the ending keyframe of the motion path.
BTW: the deinterlace filter will cut your quality in half

  • Jumpy Still Images After Render

(I know, another slide show tread...)
I'm making a slide show with zoom and pan key framing (like I used to do with FCE 2.0.3 which worked FINE) with my spiffy new FCE 4.0. The sequence looks fine when I play it from the timeline. If I play the key-framed image in the viewer (pre-render) it appears jumpy. Once I render the sequence, the playback is jumpy. Exported quicktime movies are also jumpy.
I've imported original quality images (3008x2000) in both JPEG and TIFF. I've also imported 1440*957 JPEG (twice the 720x480 canvas as recommended by the FCE help.) I get the same results.
I've read some other posts on similar issues, but they don't seem to be quite like this one.
    Thanks Forum.
    Dave

I read about the de-interlace stuff, and I must confess ignorance, I just don't understand all the surrounding issues with interlacing
when FCE renders the stills, does it interlace it at that time? I'm guessing I can't prevent that from happening?
Let me summarize a few points I understand of interlacing:
    - interlacing is the native method for DV either PAL or NTSC (and not only), so whether you are aware or not it is there: it's good because it smoothes motion (50 or 60 images per second in place of 25 or 29,97) but it's bad because it halves the vertical resolution, unless you shoot almost steady videos.
    - on the computer you usually do not see interlacing because the playback application (QT or FC or others) blend/drop fields on the fly
    - the comb effect you sometimes see on computer results from playing at exactly the same instant 2 different fields shot 1/50 th or 1/60 th of second apart
    - on Mac you can see comb effect in QuickTime Pro by setting the High Quality option and in the canvas of FCE and FCP by selecting 100% zoom
    - on external interlaced devices (e.g. TV either connected through the firewire and D/A converter, or using DVD players) the comb effect is not visible, and interlacing is fully exploited for its original purpose: smoothing motion.
    - +any still taken from a moving video in FCE is a full frame including both fields+ and then showing the comb effect, if there was any motion
    So, to answer your questions:
    - you should not de-interlace video that will be watched on TV: you'll lose quality on TV even if it might look better on computer
    - you should always de-interlace still images taken from moving video (e.g. Make Freeze Frame in FC) to avoid seeing both fields, unless there is no motion
In any case as Ian says try and choose the best result on a case by case basis.

  • Extending the duration of a still image after applying scaling to it?

I have a still image that I am keyframing to scale down from 100% to 50% over its duration and at the end of the clip I move it to the upper left of the screen. After it moves to the upper left I want it to stay in that spot. What is the best way to do this?
I had my final keyframe on the last frame of the clip. Would I now somehow extend the length of the clip longer?
    Thanks.

I suggest Ann's workflow too, but if you have already applied Keyframes to the shorter Duration Still, then extend that Duration, you can then Move the Keyframes to the new Tail/Last Frame. Just remember that that operation will change the timing of the Keyframes by the change in Duration. If that is what you want, then nothing to worry about.
Also, if you have several Effects Keyframed, you can Select all of those Keyframes for each Effect, then drag them all to suit.
    Good luck,

  • Please help!!  No "still image" button option...  There last night - now GONE.  ?!?!

    Hello!
Thank you in advance for anyone/everyone who answers this questions.  I need your help!
(The most frustrating thing about this - is that it was working easily and perfectly last night with not even a hiccup.  argh.
    So:
I am putting two movies in one iDVD project and then I'm going to burn on a DL DVD.
The first movie is in and all of the Chapter Markers imported beautifully with the titles, etc..., BUT....last night I was able to select the Motion Button - Change it to a STILL IMAGE and then drop in my own Still Image.  It was looking great!
    Today, I can't.
I select the Motion Button and the only "Button Info" Menu it gives me is one that has Font control, Size control, Label, and Transitions.  NO "Still Image" box to check...no box to click and drag my image into - nothing.  argh again!
On the map page, if I select the "chapter/scene selection" - all it say is "Loop Movie" and gives me a box to check or uncheck.
    Help!  Help!  Help!
I feel like I'm losing my mind.  I've gone thru and checked to see if there's anything I could've changed, but can't think of anything.
Of course, I'm on a tight deadline, so please help.
    Thank you!  Thank you!!
    Jocelyn

    I figured it out!!!
It seems to be a glitch in the "Center Stage" theme.
I switched to the Revolution Theme, made all of my adjustments, then switched back to Center Stage and it worked!!
Hilarious, too, because I've been looking for an answer for a couple of hours and right when I sat down at the computer again to try my "plan" - the NEXT post I opened - confirmed it for me!  Woooohoooo!

  • Pls. help: iPhone 4s battery still bad after replacement

I got my iPhone 4s 64GB on day one as it became available in Europe. It was a big investment for me, so please help me find out what I should expect from the device.
First some background. I've had all iPhone models thus far, so I'm not new to the game. Also, I tried messing with the settings as described in many sites. Nothing helped. So I waited for 5.0.1. I installed it and it didn't help at all. It didn't make things worse or better. I then saw my wife's iPhone 4 going incomparably stronger with the same settings after a year and 3 months of usage. Basically her battery would go down to 92% compared to mine going to 72%, whilst she was even making calls and I just had mine in sleep.
So I decided to give up, and after discussing my issues with Apple Care conceded it *could* be a hardware problem and sent mine in.
I received my replacement iPhone 4s yesterday. I charged it fully and put it on my night stand at around midnight. Also, I made sure I didn't even restore my previous iPhone, but rather set it up as new, just entered my iCloud data and turned off the location services, etc. At 7 a.m. my battery showed something over half. It's noon now and after no phone calls and only checking a few emails my iPhone battery is deep in the red.
I'd appreciate your help, testing, opinions. I'm at loss whether this should be considered normal, because sending in device after device doesn't seem right to me and perhaps makes no sense.

    Just one thing:
You won't shed any light for apple here. This place is for users only.

  • This is about the still image size changing from what I see on the computer monitor and what the burned DVD shows on the TV

I have Prem.El 12 and have used PE4 for years.  I have a new PC that runs Win7Pro.  The still images on the computer monitor are within the "safe margins".  The still images after the movie has been burned to a disk are MUCH smaller on the TV screen.  Is this an issue of 16:9 vs 4:3 ratios?  My TV is 4:3.  Can I tell PE12 to make the movie a 4:3?

    retchemteach
Although I have seen your post of today in my Inbox Email Notifications, that post has not yet appears in this thread. It will probably will sooner or later. But, to keep things moving along....this is a copy of what I am seeing as your message of today in my Indox Email Notifications
Thank you for your patience in the time it is taking me to get back to you.
I am still trying to buy some DVD-RW discs and will hopefully do that in a
bit.  Meanwhile, I have more info for you and some simple (I hope)
questions.  If you want to insert your answers, that would be fine.
My camera (for stills and video) is set to the 4:3 ratio.  It is capable of
being set to a 16:9 ratio if I wanted to do that.  I looked in its TOOLS
    menu and saw this info.
My TV is definitely a 4:3 TV.  (I measured it with my tape measure and
divided W/L to get 1.33)  The TV can show a 16:9 movie and just adds the
black bars on the top and bottom.  Question: What will my old 4:3 movies
look like on a 16:9 TV whenever we buy one of those?
It seems to me that I want to set PE12 to the NTSC DV Standard you
    mentioned.
I do NOT know how to “size your photos so that each has a 4:3 aspect”,
unless you mean doing that in Photoshop Elements, which I know how to do
    (*see below)
I had NOT considered that I would need to watch the preset for the
‘Publish+Share’ step; so that’s good to know (I copied and pasted your info
    for later use).
BTW, years ago when I had difficulties with my XP computer working on PE4
(had only 2 GB RAM), an Adobe tech told me to resize my photos * to have a
720 pixel width (the height would be automatically adjusted) to lower the
file size to something my computer could handle without crashing.  (That
was back in the good ol’ days when Adobe support would actually talk with
their customers and try to help them in the first month)
My new computer has 16GB RAM.  Do you think I still need to reduce file
size?  One does lose some sharpness in the resizing process…..however,
these videos I’m making are travelogues and are for a fun way to view pics
and videos of a trip…nothing Earth shattering….and just a hobby to keep me
    off the streets.
I truly appreciate the time you take to help me (and others).  I was even
tempted to try to install my old PE4 on my new computer just to be able to
    enjoy my hobby again.
    My reply to the above....
    1. If you camera is giving you 4:3 photos and your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then leave
the photos as is unless you have a lot of photos and each has pixel dimensions sizes way over 1920 x 1080 pixels that are giving your computer resource issues. If you have to down size them because of computer resources, then copy the photos to a computer desktop folder and also create an empty folder on the computer desktop.
    a. Photoshop Elements Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files.
    Process Files form Folder
Source - browse to and select the computer desktop folder with photos to be resized
Destination - browse to and select the empty computer desktop folder
    Image Size
Check Mark Next To Resize Images
(no check mark next to Constrain Proportions)
Type in Width = 1000  (set units for pixels)
Type in Height = 750 (set unites for pixels)
    File Size
Check Mark Next to Convert Files To
               Set for JPEG High Quality
The above should work fine for a NTSC DV Standard project with a burn to DVD disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD (4:3 video).
    2. With regard to the TV Set and 16:9 video....when you have the DVD-player attached to the TV, do you have the opportunity to bring up a display of menus with
controls for Picture and Aspect Ratio? From what you have written so far, it looks like the answer is no. I am not sure how your TV DVD
    player will handle 16:9.
Best do a mini test run
    1. Project preset set manually to NTSC DV Widescreen (please refer to post 1 link)
    A few photos sized for 1600 x 1200
In the Premiere Elements project, use the Safety Margins inner rectangle for text placement
    Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
See what that looks like on your TV DVD player.
If you discovered that your current TV DVD player can be set for a 16:9 display, then I have a preferred workflow for
NTSC DV Widescreen which typically gives best possible results. Hints of things to come.
Please review and consider. Thanks for the follow ups.

  • Help!  Ideas for displaying ~100-300 still images with After Effects / Premiere Pro

Hi, I am a cadet at a US Air Force detachment and am responsible for making this semester's end of the year video.
I have the Adobe creative cloud and am familiar with the basics of Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, and I am trying to also learn After Effects.  I have a large amount of picture and video, and am at a loss for how to quickly make all these pictures into an interesting slideshow.  Software such as Cyberlink Powerdirector had a "photo grid" which would allow me to create an automatic slideshow of images on a 3x3 grid, where each image flashed into place one at a time.  I am looking for automated processes or tutorials to feed my images into and have a modern effect of displaying the images.
If anyone has any idea for a template or where to start on handling a large amount of still images in After Effects or Premiere Pro, I could definitely use a point in the right direction!

  • HELP - after publishing to Media Browser, still images do not match video

OK - here's what I'm trying to do:
I've got my family's video on an external HD (1TB) hooked up to my (new) imac. I'e created a rough cut project (1.5 hours). I'm trying to transfer it to my (new macbook) laptop so I can work on it when I'm travelling.
I've published the project to the media browser and transfered it to the other compuer. However, the still images in the project library window do not match the video, which makes it hard to edit. When I go back to my imac and disconnect the hard drive, the same thing happens. When I reconnect the hard drive, the video stills in the project library window match the video.
    Any fixes?

For DVDs, share to Media Browser - Large. You are correct that DVDs cannot handle HD and would cut it down to 640x480 anyway. The Large size (960x540) seems to provide the right balance of quality and enough material for the compression to MPEG2 to sink its teeth into.
No need for HD size unless you are sharing to BluRay, Sharing to YouTiube, watching on a device like the Sony PS3, or watching on your computer.

  • How to output video as still image frames?

    Hi there,
We need to convert a movie file which has something like 375 frames into 60 still image files. How could we go about doing this using After Effects?
We have a lot of movie files to convert, is there a way to batch process this so that we can have it processing over the weekend?
    I'd really appreciate anyone's help!
    Thanks!
    Abi

    That link is helpful.
So if I wanted to render a batch process, I simply add all the movie files into the render queue and then specify for each of the files where I want them to be outputted to... And then once the render button is clicked it will do all of the items in the queue?
For example, for one composition I have 'Best Settings' selected for 'Render Settings' and then for the 'Output Module' I have it set as 'Based on "Lossless" '...
The 'Output Module' settings I have as the format 'JPEG Sequence', 'Post-Render Action: None', 'Video Output' is ticked; 'Channels: RGB', 'Depth: Millions of Colors".
I am outputting it to a specific folder.
Are these settings more or less correct for what I want to do?
Apologies for basic questions being asked, I don't want to start the process for it to go wrong when I am not here to oversee it!!!
    Thanks!

  • Still images with lines

    Hey Guys,
This sounds like such an elementary issue that I should be able to figure out. But basically I have some images (psd) that I imported into Final Cut and I have put basic motion on all of them. Everytime I export the video I end up with lines on the images. I don't understand why, because these images weren't shot with a camera that shoots in lines...I've tried applying de-interlace, image stabilizer, and flicker filter and nothing seems to solve the issue. Any ideas?

    Joseph
DV NTSC video is interlaced. Probably you are giving a heavy and/or fats movement to the still. If you want to chek the interlacing effect while editing, view your canvas at 100% magnification. Anyhting below that FCP will show you just a field. Play the still movement frame by frame and you must see there the interlacing lines.
What's the final delivery format? If it's DVD then you have nothing to worry bevause TVs manage fine interlaced video and that's the way to be. If you are exporting to a web QT file format, then probably must deinterlace it while exporting.
After all think that we are not seeing your timeline and sometimes it's difficult to guess from here what's happening !
    Hope that helps !

  • Creating Still Images/High quality JPG's...please help

We are in desparate need of creating quality still images from captured video. Basically, we have footage in mini DV format that we import into Final Cut HD using a Sony Clamshell deck. What is the best way to make high quality still images?
We tried it this way....Export Quicktime as Still image...and it just looks bad, Even after De-interlacing it within Photoshop. We need it to look exactly like it does if we simply press pause on the deck or pause within Final Cut.

When you start with DV material, the highest res you can for a still image capture is 720x480 (non-square) or the equivalent of a really bad quality cheepo still camera. (~640x480 square pixels)
To avoid the need to deinterlace, (the horrors of which are described below) find sections in your masterpiece that have VERY LITTLE motion, i.e. everyone/thing standing/existing absolutely still with the camera locked down on a tripod. These sections will yield the very best possible still images.
If you have motion the frame, the still images will exhibit 'tearing' which comes from the two fields of video being recorded ~1/60 second apart. The second field shows elements displaced from the first field - hence a kind of internal image shifting going on. The only real way to deal with these kind of images is to deinterlace them - that is - decide which field you are going to keep and throw away the other.
When you have deinterlaced the image, you have in effect reduced it from a 720x480 image to a 720x240 image. The image pixel count REMAINS 720x480 but with half the vertical information as the remaining lines are doubled or interpolated to build back to 480 lines.
    Confused yet? I hope not...
Still, if you know you'll want stills from a project, it's better to carry around a small digital still camera, you'll get better results. Otherwise, plan on pretty small prints.
    Good luck.

  • Still image quality poor, Help

I posted a similar question last night. This one is more of the same.
Issue: Poor image quality (flickering, Jumping) when viewing stills on my TV only...
I have made 2 test videos. One was made in FCE and one in iMovie8. Both are identical and consist of only 5 still pictures. I added motion to a couple of pics in each test. The video from iMovie looks great on my TV. The video fro FCE looks very poor. The image is jumpy and flickering.
Why does the same movie movie look different depending on the source? What is different? Do I have something set up incorrectly in FCE?
I tried applying the De-interlacing filter and the Flicker filter. I tried all variants of the De-interlace filter, ie odd/even. I have made several exports from FCE trying to get rid of the flicker/jumpy-ness to no avail.....Even the still pics that have no movement flicker a bit from FCE, for example, one of the pictures are of my son holding a dark green fishing rod while standing in a tent. The picture has no movement but the fishing rod and tent poles are flickering, almost like there are lights in them blinking on and off. A similar picture that has movement shows the fishing rod as alternating dark and light lines instead of just a dark green rod. The same pics from the iMovie clip look great. The color is correct and no flickering at all.
To export from FCE I am using Quick Time Movie. From iMovie 8, I am using 'Export Movie' high quality. On each video I then just dropped them into iDVD and viewed on my TV.
I am a new user to FCE and so far I like it much better than iMovie 6 or 8. I have a hard time believing that the still picture quality output form FCE is worse than iMovie. So I must be doing something wrong.
Thank you in advanced for help,
    Toshiro

Well I can only assume that there is a difference in the way the data is handled between the 2 apps. I have resolved my issue by not compressing the data while exporting. Unfortunately, my 3 minute video is 7G !!...oh well
...now if I could just get rid of the thin green line at the bottom of the screen during my opening segment it would be great....
Thanks for taking the time to assist
    Toshiro

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

  • How do i make a still image (photo) fit the length of the music? I record music and want to put the tracks to a video file with a still image of my business logo in the background. Any help?

How do I make a still image (photo) fit the length of the music? I record music and want to convert the tracks to a video file with a still image of my business logo in the background. On windows movie maker you could just select "fit to music" but this program isnt as easy to figure out! Any help?

Double-click on the still image in the project timeline to open the Inspector. In the Inspector, adjust the duration by typing in a new duration to match the length of your music. I think the limit for a still image is 10 minutes. If you need more than this, simply drag the image into the timeline again then adjust its duration. The two images will play seamlessly (no gap will be visible).
    See this iMovie Help topic:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a883915
You can achieve more precision when entering durations by changing a preference in the menu item iMovie Preferences. Check (tick) the preference for Show Time As HH:MM:SS:frames. This will enable you to enter the duration of stills down to the frame level, rather than full seconds (NTSC is 30 frames per second; PAL is 25 fps). When entering times, type a colon between each time segment, such as 2:50:15, which represents 2 minutes 50 seconds and 15 frames. For 5 seconds 20 frames you would enter 5:20 and so forth.
Note that the music will only run to the length of the video in the timeline (in your case, the still images). So, after increasing the stills duration you will need to drag the end of the music track as far as required. The stills can be dragged inwards to reduce the duration if necessary.
