Help!!! DSL for my airport won't work

Here is my problem, I got an airport a while ago, and got it to work with my printer but getting it to work with the internet has been impossible because our old PC does not have wireless, and when I hook up a splitter to the Ethernet cable my airport blinks yellow, gets pouty an won't work. So...
Question 1: Do I need a separate DSL router(not sure if that is the right term, but its the little black box that you hook the DSL cable to and the ethernet cable to the computer) for each DSL out in my house.
Question 2: What has been a good router for you (apple forum super-hero's ) & that will be compatible with my airport and macbook.
Thanks in advance!
-Sam

Hello guess_sam. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Since you have a requirement to support both wired and wireless devices on your network, it would be better to replace your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) with either an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or an equivalent model from another manufacturer, like Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys to name a few.

  • Installed a new DSL router, now AirPort won't work

My DSL router started dying a few days ago. The tech from my provider came right out and replaced it; the wired connection to my MacBook Pro is fine, and the wireless connection to the old iBook G4 via AirPort initially worked OK, but now the house wifi name won't even show on the menu.
When the new router was programmed, it was set to "Enable DHCP Server".
The router is a Comtrend ADSL. I'm logged onto it now, and the settings at the "Management" control panel DHCP are "enable" and "disable". Is there anything I should change there?
Under "Access Control", I'm shown a table headed "Feature/root/support/user/apuser" with category titles like "account access", "wireless - basic", and "wireless - advanced", and under the "account access" category, there are popdown menus with choices "none", "LAN", "WAN" and "both". Is there anything I need to change there?
Any ideas? I'm kind of feeling my way through this, so apologies in advance if nothing makes any sense.
Machines involved in this fracas are a G4 iBook, an Intel MacBook, an iPad2, and a couple of iPhones. Main wired connectivity is OK on a MacBook Pro, which is probably snickering smugly as I type this.
    Thanks in advance,

almost all Netgear routers have a firewall. So log into the router. Username Admin and password is probably password. If not these days they print in on the bottom of the router. Check the ports used for mail are not blocked.

If you are sure that you are entering the correct password, then this sounds like an iPhone issue, so your best bet will be to post in the iPhone Support Community so that the experts over there can help.

I updated my iphone and when it came time for activation it won't work and keeps telling me to try again. At the top it says "No Service" and I have my SIM card in and a good WiFi connection and have connected it through iTunes but it says I have no SIM card and need to disconnect and insert my SIM. I don't understand why this keeps happening and it's been going on for a wile now. I have tried over and over again to get this iPhone to work but nothig is happening. I've even gone on the website for support (apple.com/support) but cannot find anything that will help me with this situation. Can someone please help me find a solution to this problem? I have been without a phone and do not have money to buy another one and it is crucial for me to get it fixed. Thanks.

What computer operating system is involved in the Premiere Elements 11 and 13 issues? Same computer or different ones? Are you installing from purchased download installation files or from purchased installation disc? Does Premiere Elements 11 work completely on this computer whereas 13 will not?
Let us go through the typical drill so as to take nothing for granted.
    1. Does the problem exist with or without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled? Are you working with an individual home computer or in a
    school or company network?
    2. Are you running the program as Administrator and is there any "domain" account involved?
    3. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    4. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on the computer with Premiere Elements?
Let us start by ruling in or out any of the above, and then we can decide what next.
Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...

  • I have a MacBook ProDo I have to have the Airport Extreme Base Station for my Airport Express to work?

I cannot get the darn Airport Express to work!  It just keeps blinking Amber.  I know it must be something silly I am over looking.  And I do not have the Airport Extreme Base Station.
    Thank you for any help!!!

    Thanks,
This is the rear of your modem/router:
Connect a Cat5e or Cat6 cable from any of the 4 Ethernet Lan ports to the (single) socket on the Express, then go to Airport Utility (Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility) and select create a new network.
You will need to turn the wireless transmiter in the Netgear off, here is a link to the Netgear Manual in case you need to refer to it.

  • New PC, airport won't work

First of all apologies as I am not very computer savvy (so my problem could indeed be easily fixed..), nor am i a Mac user.
In 2009 I had a nice system of itunes linked to 2 airport expresses in 2 different rooms of my house. At the time of set up i remember it being a rather complex task. At the start of 2010 i upgraded my PC and now i find I can no longer get my airport expresses to work. I have read all sorts of posts and tried various things to no avail.
Basically, i ONLY use my airport expresses to pick up itunes so i can play music in 2 rooms, thats all. The last thing i tried was to move one of my aiport expresses into the same room as the pc and give it a hard reset with a paper clip. It is flashing an amber light at me. When i go to Airport Utility, it eventually finds it, but when i click on continue it goes through the process of detecting an Apple device and then gives me the message "an error occurred while trying to access the Apple device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again" Error -4
Is there something i should have done when i upgraded my PC? Any help at all woudl be much appreciated, i have been without my favourite music for too long.

  • My airport won't work after sleep

I have a powerbook G4. I have used it flawlessly for years between two locations, closing it up to sleep and opening up at the new location. It would find the airport base stations and connect perfectly. Now when I open it up, airport does not automatically connect and in fact does not show any of my neighbors' wifi hot spots. I use the airport utility and it finds nothing. Turning my airport on and off won't work either. In order for airport to work, I must reboot each time.
    Any suggestions?
    Powerbook g4 1GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If after installing Security Update 2007-004 on OS10.3.9 and after waking from Sleep you experience a kernel panic notification (black pane) to reboot with the power button ......... do the following:
Reboot .... then apply /App/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions .... shut down .... Reboot while holding down Command-Option-P-R keys together until the computer chimes three(3) individual times ... release keys to complete reboot .... Repair Permissions again ... click the soft Restart .... Sleep the computer then wake it up .... the kernel panic pane should be gone.
P.S. If after the above you still have Airport issues (you probably have the Airport "b" card), go to /System/Library/Extensions and delete to Trash all BUT the latest Airport Extension (check by DATE, not the version number). To permanently remove the AP2.kext, you must use Admin. password.

  • Help setting up my airport express to work at a relative's house

I recently upgraded my parents' house from dial-up to broadband connection via local telecom provider (Qwest). With ethernet cable plugged into my MacBook, all is well. But when I plug ethernet cable into my Airport Express unit, I am unable to access Internet. MacBook and Airport Express unit are communicating but -- I'm guessing I need to do something so that Airport Express unit works with a different modem than the one at my residence, i.e. the one now installed at my parents' house. I can probably figure it out if pointed in the right direction. I would be grateful.

It's always a good idea to do a complete power recycle of all the network components when switching networks to allow the modem to recognize the router.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Express Base Station (AX), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."
You may also want to take advantage of the AX's ability to save multiple configurations.
The AX can store up to five different configuration profiles. You will need to use the AirPort Admin Utility, located in Applications/Utilities to create & save these profiles.
    To create a new profile:
o Open AirPort Admin Utility, and select your AX from the list, and then, click Configure.
o Click the Profiles icon in the toolbar.
o Click Add to create a new profile; give it a name, and then, click OK.
o Set options, such as network name, passwords, Internet connection method, etc.
o When done setting the options, click Update.
    To switch profiles:
o Open the AirPort Admin Utility, and select your AX from the list, and then, click Configure.
o Click the Profiles icon in the toolbar.
o Click on the desired profile, and then, click OK to apply the new profile and restart the AX.
Just remember to switch to the desired configuration profile before removing power from the AX.

  • License repair tool for PSE 8 won't work-missing python 25 .dll

PSE 8 license repair tool won't work... missing python 25 .dll

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.
