Help! External harddisk crashed ... how can I re-format it ?

Hi,
My external harddisk (LaCIE 250 Gb; about 4 years old) "crashed". It does no longer mount but what intrigues me is the fact that Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) does not even see the disk hardware, i.e. manufacturer etc. Just nothing appears in Disk Utility. I tried FireWire and USB connection. Always the same. Disk Utility stays somehow busy, maybe trying to mount but bo success. Is there a way to disable the automatic mounting, such that I could re-format the disk (low level)?

Well, the drive is already out of warranty. So you can simply take it out of the case. - I guess the original drive interface, being 4 years old, is IDE. - If you have someone around the corner with a powermac with an open IDE connector (most powermacs have at least one open IDE HD bay), just try to plug it in there. - If it works, fine buy a case at your local dealer or e.g. at dsp-memory.de , if not, off to the trash.
(You might want to continue to use that working IDE case, but then entire drive mechanisms are that dirt-cheap (500GB below 100€), you probably rather buy a new external disk.)

Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Following repeated crashing of Firefox 3.6.11, I was required to amend my profiles to correct a security error (I got an ssl error) by deleting cert8.db file. I have lost all my browsing history in the crash, how can I recover it?

I looked on my C:\ for plugin-container.exe and deleted the file as it kept slowing down my computor, however now when I load firefox it crashes, how can I re-install this plugin to disable it properly?

My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.

Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.

If all your files are missing

This has nothing to do with iTunes as iTunes provides no way to move or relocate the backup files.
A search of google or the fourms would reveal ways to create a folder link to relocate the physical location where the files are stored.

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.

You can per install Dreamweaver again the same way you installed previously. Do you get any error messages while installing? If yes please attach a screenshot(if possible) and provide more details abount the version/OS and the exact error message.

You can try the standard fixes of reset, restore from backup and restore to factory defaults to rule out a hsoftware proble. Frequently it is to to a problem with the eadphone jack and the solution is to replace the jack.

I have restored network settings and cleared history etc ..

Try closing all apps and reboot the iPad. Clear Safari again as well.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
