Help in understanding Video_TS and Video_RM files

I ave been given a DVD that was made for a group using Sony commercial gear. It contains a Video_RM folder that includes a *.BUP and a *.IFO.
It also contains a Video_TS folder that has Video_TS.BUP, Video_TS.IFO and a Video_TS.VOB files. There are also VTS010.BUP, VTS010.IFO and VTS011.VOB, VTS012.VOB and VTS013.VOB.
Now I have extracted files from the Video_TS folder and have been able to use them in FCE.
But my question is what are these files?
Two of the VOB files are large and I assume they contain my video and audio.
Are they redundant?
Am I missing something by only extracting one of the folders?
What can someone tell me about these guys.
I did not see a reference to it in the FCE manual nor have I come across it yet in Tom's book on FCE.
Thanks
Dunc

You might read this tutorial myDVDEdit overview. It's an introduction to the DVD file structure, written by the developer of myDVDEdit, a very powerful free interactive tool, that allows to make modifications to the internal contents of a DVD.
myDVDEdit should not be needed unless you have to fix some bug/misbehaviour of the Apple applications. For example it may be used to fix the 16:9 to 4:3 frame factor problem for anamorphic video created by FCE and imported by iDVD: see instructions in the same myDVDEdit site (this is not the only workaround for this problem).
If you are interested in understanding the DVD structure, this is for sure a good overview.

  • Help required for slicing and merging file

    Hi,
I am working on p2p downloading application based on Gnutella. Right now i am trying to implement downlaoding one file from many hosts at a time(like limewire does). i am able to connect to multiple host. but dont know how to downlaod and merge file for his purpose.
i know how to download one file from single host. but dont know how to handle file coming from multiple hosts.
if anyone having knowledge, please tell as soon as possble.

    Hi.
thanks for the reply. Actually i had something same
in my mind. but unfortunately i am quite week in
serializtion and file stuff. If you could provide me
with code snipet for this, or can just simulate in a
fewer lines of code, it would be a great help for
me...i have too much short time...
i think i really have to study this file
stuff..........You shouldn't use serialization. Just invent a protocol, and "normal" binary data.

  • Helping me understand cleaning and optimization

    Hello everyone,
This is my first post on the board and would like to introduce myself: Please call me eyeforimagery!
I am by no means computer illiterate nevertheless have gotten myself into a pickle with the ammount of GB left on my computer.
My question is... From the pie-chart I am not understanding where all of my space has gone... I've emptied the trash; tried the 'erase free space' under the disc utility folder; downloaded 'clean my mac'; and purchased a few external hard-drives...
What am I doing wrong and how can I correct this?
Tomorrow afternoon I have made an appointment with an apple representative to try and sort this out... Should I bring my external hard-drive with me?
    Any advice would help.
    Thank you all kindly,
    Eyeforimagery

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
With your 'handle', eyeforimagery, I'm guessing it's photos and videos.
Music, photos, downloaded movies, your own videos, graphics, fonts, podcasts, application programs, documents, and the operating system all take up space on your hard disk. 160Gb is a pretty small hard disk today.  I currently have a 500Gb in my MacBook that is more than 2/3rds full.
For me, it's the high-megapixel digital camera images that take up a lot of space. I currently have a 100Gb iPhoto Library. I also use an image editing program that creates huge files, 4 to 10 times the size of the original image.
I use a program called Daisy Disk http://www.daisydiskapp.com/ ($19.95) to visualize exactly what is taking up the most storage space on my hard drive.
And yes, take the external drive(s) along to your appointment.

no, that's not a reason you would use a class file.
anyway, your document class variables are defined on the main timeline so to reference them from any timeline you can use:
MovieClip(root).w36;  // for example  (but it's really undesirable to have coding in more than one timeline)

  • Help needed with layers and project files....

    Hello
I am new to after effects so this might be a simple issue for most. I am having an issue with my layers not matching the files in my project window. I accidently deleted a comp file the other day so I had to remake a few layers but they are not showing up in the project window/solids folder. I have 5 layers on my timeline and only 4 files in the project/solids folder. Some of the files names do not match the ones in the timeline. Is there a way to create a new comp with the files that I have open in my timeline or to replace the ones in the project window?  I started a project a few days ago, Im trying to make a few partical orbs dancing on there own path then they will come together and then creates a few smaller ones. Im at the point where I want to copy one comp to another or copy the layers over but the particals follow one light instead of the original light from its own comp. I think the file names in the project window might be the issue but I really don't know. Any help or comments would greatly be appreciated
                                                     Thanks a million

Layers on the timeline are just instances of the source footage. If you rename them on the timeline, that won't affect the number or naming of the sources in the project window. Toggle the column header in the TL to see which laywer uses which source.

  • Please help. 3 beeps and gray file on startup

2012 Macbook Pro 13 inch. A friend brought it to me because of a white screen and gray flashing folder on startup. I booted to disk uility and saw that it did not see a hard drive. Pulled hard drive attached it with a external reader to my macbook. was able to browse all the files, and back them up.  Formated hard drive with disk uility and put back in the computer. Disk uility did not see it after format. Put a different hard drive in computer, disk uility still doesnt see. it. Hardware test came back with no problems. I put a snow leopard cd in and booted, and i get a apple logo with 3 beeps. I have checked all connections adn removed battery. Please help i am out of ideas.

There a some fasteners that hold them in, if adjusted may restore functionality.

  • Help in Collections (LinkedList) and in Files I/O

Well, I've two questions, first one:
I'm trying to do a program which reads and writes (well, I'm only in the reading part :P) from/to Files with a kinda complex Layout (is it the word???) using java.io.*; it has the same limit of number of characters in every row, but it can be lower, and I don't know how to read them and store them in a String Array, specially an overloaded read() from my class where the paramters given are file, length in characters to read, and relative position in the layout... I kinda made a read() which reads ALL the text file... the first method returns a String[], but the last one returns String[][] (because I want to mantain the "layout")... What do you suggest me (well, at first try I was trying to use Data Bases but I really don't like the idea of basing my program in ANOTHER PROGRAM ... yes the one from Mycr0Zoft... I heard about making databases in Java is that true?, or I need that or any other program? Should I stay on the java.io.*???)
    the second question:
When I Initialized the String[] and the String[][] to return in the read() methods I used an arbitrary (damn if that's not the word... I shouldn't have stopped studying the English language...!) size of [50]
in the rows, I really find disgusting that thing, and I managed to use LinkedList to store them, BUT ONLY in the String[], because I can add the individual String Objects to de LinkedList, to simulate a String[], but i can't use it on the String[][] case, cuz, as you may now, I can't add an Object[] to that collection...
    Any Suggestions???
    Thnx ...

Yeah, I have a suggestion. Lay off the reefer.
Apart from that, perhaps BufferedReader would be helpful...it sounds like your input may be separated by newline into individual records (that is, each line is a logically separate bunch of data, pretty typical).
Using a List to hold each line seems fine, but if you find that you have a "layout" (and it's not at all clear what you're talking about when you say that) then perhaps you should define a class that encapsulates that layout, and maintain a List of those.
But don't worry about any of this until you come down. For now, listen to some Allman Brothers, and drink plenty of water. Stay at home; you don't want to be driving or trying to ride a bus right now.

  • Help - making a movie and the file is jumpy

I'm making a slideshow to show a group of 50 students tonight. I've never had this issue with iMovie before. I have iMovie '11 and OS Lion. The file is like it has scratch marks that appear at various times, whether it's a transition or just displaying a picture.
It's not the end of the world because the file will still play, but it's noticeable that the file is jumpy/glitchy (sorry I don't have a better technical way of describing this).
I have exporting as a quicktime file, it's still there, watched it on other macs and pcs, still there.
Any help would be great. Need to show this tonight!

Help me please I opened up Itunes and files that I have deleted from the itunes library are showing up again and agian....does anybody know what is going on? Also when I add folders to my library not all ot he music is found....any ideas??

Right now, I simply plug in my camera and import into the Pictures folder on the laptop HD
In Aperture, do you have a Managed or Referenced Library?
Is it possible that they're being imported into the iPhoto library
Not unless you have set up some form of Folder Actions - and you would know if you have. But a simple test: do your import actions as normal and then open iPhoto. Are the newest additions there?
would love to store the images> and videos on the external drive,
    This is easy.
and store a smaller copy for viewing on the laptop itself without taking up a bunch of room.
No need for a smaller copy. You can still view in Aperture without the disk connected.
and still make edits? Or only make edits to the files while connect
You can only edit the files with the disk connected.

  • HELP with FCS remover and removing files

I was using FCS remover to remove FCP2 for a clean install. When I ran the app, I didn't seem to have enough of disk space to install the whole studio. When I tried to install I had a few GB left on my disk so I didn't put on all the apps. Anyway, FCP didn't fully load. I went back and used FCS remover again, and no I dont' have any disk space. I think that FCS remover didn't uninstall any of the apps and what I installed a second time didn't uninstall my second install. I can drag FCP and other apps to the trash, but I think soundtrack was never removed.
Anyway, I need to go in uninstall everything that FCP has installed so I can do a clean install and reinstall FCP the proper way.
Again, How can I find all the FCP files to free up enough space on my HD

  • Help on Opening .JPG and .MP3 files

    Dear Forum Members,
I have purchased a new 20inch imac a few day ago and is having difficulties opening files from an external hard-disk. The files were saved using a window XP computer (it crashed and died - thus my move to imac). I can see the files on the external hard-disk, but the imac hangs (e.g. cannot force quit iphoto or itune) when I try to open any file, regardless of jpg, mp3, mov extensions.
I would greatly appreciate your help as 5 years of my children's photos are on it, including my whole collection of scanned CDs.
    Thanks
    Dan

What happens if you try to copy these files to your iMac first? Your problem may not be that applications quit when opening but rather you're having problems simply accessing the disk.
If your external disk was formatted as NTFS by your Windows machine then your Mac will not be able to write back to the disk. Your applications may be attempting to save temporary or permanent files back to the disk. Verify this by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac". Click the "More Info..." button. Under the Hardware section on the left, look for your drive. It's probably under ATA. Select your drive and look at the "File System". If it is formatted as NTFS, you can copy the files to your iMac, and use the Disk Utility to reformat the drive to a Mac or MS-DOS format.
This could also be a symptom of disk corruption. You can begin troubleshooting by using the Disk Utility found in /Applications/Utilities to verify/repair your disk. If Disk Utility finds problems but is unable to fix them, you can purchase third party tools such as DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro to attempt to repair your disk.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Help needed in send and reciving file realtime over the web!

Here is a scenario what I want to do and need some ideas about proceeding.
I have a directory where the files are being added every 5 to 10 seconds. These files are to be transferred one at a time to some other location using some kind of secure protocol. The party receiving files will process each file and send the response back instantaneously. The send and response for each file is between 2 to 4 seconds. The response file is saved in a separate directory. If a successful response then sends another file and so on.
The program iterates through the directory and if any files will send if no files wait for 10 seconds and check if any files to send and will run as long as someone manually shuts down. What's the better way to achieve this functionality.
Any ideas the best approach and where to start. Thanks

When you say "the send and response for each file is between 2 to 4 seconds," are you saying that's your requirement?
What happens to the original files after they are sent? Are they deleted? If not, you need to be able to detect which files are new.
You could write a standalone client and a standalone server, and do everything at the socket level.
You could use a webserver to receive and process the requests.
You could use SOAP or CORBA or JMS. It depends on more details of your requirements, your experience, time constraints to complete the project, environment...

  • Help for PSE 9 and NEF files

I have PSE 9 with camera raw 6.5, running Windows 7.  I shoot on a Cannon and regularly process CR2 files.  Now I'm trying to process NEF files from my sister's Nikon (not sure which, probably D90), but PSE says "Cannot open because it is the wrong type of file."  They are definitely NEF files, and she herself is able to process her own files (obviously) on whatever version of PS she has (not Elements).  Can anyone shed some light?  I did a complete update and computer restart an hour ago...no dice.

You need to be sure which nikon camera, because although they all (most) are NEF files, they might require different versions of camera raw than the 6.5 you have in pse 9.
(pse 9 can only use up to camera 6.5)
Here's a list of cameras and the minimum required version of camera raw:
