Help installing Flex SDK 4.1 on Flex Builder 3 properly

Flex Builder 3 comes with SDK for 2.0.1 and 3.2 by default, so I want to add Flex SDK 4.1
I downloaded it, made a directory in the Flex Builder 3 sdks folder, and unzipped the contents there.
After adding it and selecting/checking it on Flex Builder, I tried to use it by running a project I was using with 3.2 and I get the error below:
unable to open 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\4.1.0\frameworks\libs\player\9.0\playerglobal.swc'
What do I need to do or didn't do?

Hi,
You can not use SDK 4.1 in flex builder 3. You need to purchase Flash Builder 4 or use free SDK 4.1 in eclipse.

  • Compiling an existing as3 packag with flex sdk (for a flash/flex/as beginner)

    Hi
I am new to flash, flex, mxml, and actionscript (with a strong background in c, python, and scheme and some background in Java, VBA, and Javascript). I have a website for which I would like to develop some simple swf content. Basically, I would like to load esri shp files at runtime (and display a series of them as an animation) using these APIs.
I have read through some flex getting started material, but I have found that there is no better way to learn a framework/language than to look at and modify existing code. Happily, I've found a sample that is both salient to my project and about the right level of complexity.
I have the Flex SDK 3 and have created some simple movies. However, I haven't managed to compile the example as3 source code to a successful swf movie. I'd like to write mxml for layout/structure and as3 for functionality, and compile with mxmlc, period. Most examples I've found use of Flex Builder, Adobe Air plugins, other IDEs, etc and so they aren't very helpful.
Here is a link to the content I'm interested in, and more importantly the as3 source packages (zip or browesable) that I'd like to compile. There are two: ManualCartogramTest.as and USStatesCartogramExample. I can use mxmlc to compile either one sucessfully, but the resulting swf file displays nothing. It seems that I should use the ManualCartogramTest class to create an instance of it, but none of my efforts have worked.
Can anyone help out? How should I generate the swf movie given one of these packages? What key piece am I missing?
    Jeff
For completeness, here is another example using the shp/dbf packages (from the creator) that I just can't figure out what to do with.

    1. Perhaps this wasn't the right forum.
    2. I had to use set -use-network=false to enter "local-with-filesystem" mode. Unfortunately, it took a while before I finally used a flash player that told me the problem instead of silently failing. The linux standalone or linux debugger from adobe was key! Gnash, swfdec, and my firefox plugin hid the problem.

  • Shifting Flex project from Flex SDK 3.5 to Flex SDK 4.0

    Hi,
I am currently working on a Flex project using Flex 3.5 SDK. I want to shift my project to Flex 4.0 SDK.
When I changed the project settings to use SDK 4.0, I got lot of unknown location errors.
    1) 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: ImportExportConfiguration
    2) 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method setSelection through a reference with static type mx.core.ITextInput
While the same code of flex was working satisfactorily in Flex SDK 3.5.
Please tell, how can I get rid of these error and successfully shift my project to Flex SDK 4.0.

    Hi,
While I am migrating my project from flex 3.5 to Flex 4, I have to keep the Flex 3 compatibility mode off and theme as Flex 4 default theme that is Spark.
Then while i compile I get foloowing errors:

What is the resolution for these, as for most of the controls there is no substitute to these properties. If I do not want ot change my <mx:> controls to <s:>controls because it will hamper my UI look and field, which I cannot afford to do.
I have added following lines at the beginning of my stylesheet (*.CSS) as well:

  • Help: Install of SDK 1.4.1 has broken XP!

    Hi all,
I have had the standard edition of Java for a while, had no
troubles. Recently upgraded to version 1_4_1_02, no troubles. Now I want
to try programming some Java, so I installed the SDK from
j2sdk-1_4_1_02-windows-i586.exe. I didnt bother to uninstall the standard
edition first - since it is s subset of the SDK I presumed I wouldnt have
to. However, Win XP now only gets as far as the login screen before the
boot fails and the monitor goes into standby mode. Only a reset produces
anything. Does anyone know what might have happened, how to fix it, or how
to repair my XP. I have the XP command console installed, and can boot
into that OK. Any suggestions welcome - I am desperate!
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

Problem solved, this was actually caused by an evil MS Hotfix: (SP2) Q811493 that I installed in the morning of the same day. Avoid this Hotfix.

  • Incompatible version of the Flex SDK 4.6 in Flash Builder 4.5

First: I just upgraded the whole CS to 5.5 last week, including Flash builder 4.5.3 Premium.
To make that possible I had to use the Adobe cleaner, which resulted in manually resetting prefs in several apps.
I imported Flex Projects which use the SDK 4.6, so I got the latest (4.6.0.23201B) from the adobe site today.
In the trial version of Flash Ubilder 4.6, there's no problem, but in the FB4.5 Premium you can't use Design View.
Trying to uninstall FB4.5 and then installing 4.6 trial doesn't work because even then, the installer says it has found an older version.
    So that's not an option!
I just can' tbelieve that the official release CS5.5 just doesn't support the 4.6 SDK.
It seems I'm not the only one with the problem, according to other posts, so Adobe:
Please, solve this right away, because as a prof.user, this costs me and I do not appreciate that!

Anything regarding Flex is pretty much at Apache these days.  There is no plan to distribute a Maven compatible Flex 4.6.  I hope Apache will make future Apache Flex builds work with Maven.

Status Update - don't know if this is a bug, design flaw, install problem or my misunderstanding.
I got it to work by first changing my Flex library to 4.5.0 - still didn't work with current
app and update mxml files using "2.6" for their namespace versions. But I did at least
get the popup error number 16815 - indicating an error in the update version namespace.
By leaving my application namespace version at "2.6" and changing the update version to "2.5" ... bingo!
I got my new update installed autiomatically.
Is this how it's supposed to work - or are my runtimes mixed up?
Will this work the same using the Flex 4.5.1 SDK? I'll find out shortly
    Hope this helps others.

  • Tracing references in the Flex SDK

I work with Flash Builder on a daily basis and I find great value in  "Find reference (Ctrl+Shift+G)" and "Open declaration (F3)". In Flex SDK 4.6.0 I was able to find references and open declarations not only in my own projects but also in the SDK files which I find valuable for various reasons. Using Apache Flex SDK 4.11.0 Flash Builder seems to have lost this ability: Open declaration works half the time and most often navigates to the wrong place in the file, and Find references does not work with SDK files at all. I have tried with both Flash Builder 4.6 and 4.7.
By tracing references in the SDK I mean working with the files accompanying the compiled Flex SDK (ie. C:\sdk_location\framework\projects\project\src\).
Any ideas how I can make Flash Builder help me browsing the SDK again?
    Details:
    My project compiles with both
    Apache Flex SDK 4.11.0
    Flex SDK 4.6.0
I can use Find references in my own project.
I can use Find references in Flex SDK 4.6.0.
I can't use Find references in Apache Flex SDK 4.11.0.

Change to the Flex bin directory and use mxmlc like this:
    mxmlc path/to/my/App.mxml
This should create a SWF file that you can then run. If you
plan on posting the app somewhere, you'll probably want to create
an HTML wrapper. You can use the wrappers in the html-templates
    directory.
For more info on using mxmlc, see the online help (type
"mxmlc -help list") or look in the Compilers chapter of the
Building and Deploying book. For more on using the wrappers, look
in the wrappers chapter of the same book.

  • For pure AS3 development do we still need to overlay the FLEX SDK?

    Hi Guys
I've found this whole SDK overlay business a mess and very confusing. I've found this document
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/ane-android-devices.html
    which states
"The distribution of the AIR SDK with ASC 2.0 is for pure ActionScript development only. It should not be combined with an existing Flex SDK.
To support Flex application development with newer versions of the AIR SDK, an AIR SDK overlay distribution that does not include ASC 2.0 needs to be overlaid over the Flex SDK bundled with Flash Builder 4.7."
So if we are doing pure AS3 development there is no longer any need to do any 'overlaying' of one SDK Folder onto another.  We just need to get the latest AIR SDK with complier ( http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html )
We should then update the AIR SDK if using Flash Builder via (  http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder. html ) (Note it still uses the term 'overlay' but you are not really overlaying but replacing).
Is this conclusion correct.  Do we just need the SDK with the new compilier and nothing else ?
Can someone from Adobe confirm please ?
    Thanks
PS - I've asked this question on the Flash Builder Forom but there's been no response.

Yes, that's correct, for pure AS3 development you need not use the Flex SDK overlay. For this you should use asc2 compiler available at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html . Also below are step to overlay your AIR SDK with Flash builder 4.7
    1. Exit Flash Builder.
    2. Back up the AIR SDK availabe at Application/FB4.7/eclipse/plugins/com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722/ by copying the entire directory and rename it to something AIRSDKversion. Now, you have two folder AIRSDK(default one) and AIRSDKversion(copied one).
    3. Download the appropriate AIR SDK file for your operating system e.g. http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html unzip and save it on your MAC OS X.
    4. On Terminal, run the below command
    sudo ditto /path/air3-8_sdk_sa_mac /Applications/Adobe\ Flash\ Builder\ 4.7/eclipse/plugins/com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722/AIRSDK
/path/air3-8_sdk_sa_mac -> path where you downloaded the AIR SDK
/Applications/Adobe\ Flash\ Builder\ 4.7/eclipse/plugins/com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722/AIRSDK -> path where you overlay the new AIR SDK
    5. (Optional) To access the new AIR 3.8 APIs, update your application descriptor file to the 3.8 namespace.
To update the namespace, change the xmlns attribute in your application descriptor to: <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.8">
    6. (Optional) To ensure that the output SWF file targets SWF version 21, pass an additional compiler argument: -swf-version=21.
    Hope this will help.

    Nimit

  • Latest flex sdk for Flash Builder 4

    HI,
We bought Flash Builder 4 Premium and installed it.
Now I want to use the latest flex sdk to use with it (I am working on a project using TLF 2).
What is the version I should install, is it sdk 4.1 or 4.5(Hero).
In Flex 4.1 there are about three variations http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Downloads. Which one should I download if using 4.1 ?
    Please explain.
    Thanks

    Thanks Chris.
in sdk 4.1 download there are 3 download types. Can you please tell me the difference of 'Free Adobe Flex SDK' and 'Open Source Flex SDK' and which one should I use?
    Thank you very much

You should then update the AIR SDK if using Flash Builder via (  http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder.html ) (Note it still uses the term 'overlay' but you are not really overlaying but replacing).
Can someone from Adobe confirm please ?
    Thanks

You must use Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix 3.  No later version of Flex works.  This means you must use Flex Builder 3 (with Flex 2.0.1 runtime for your project) and you cannot use Flash Builder 4.5.
This holds true for their 2008 Xcelsius version and their new 4.0 Dashboard version.  Wish they'd update their runtime already...
