HELP! - JSP/Struts/ADF and JBO-29000 exception

What is the meaning of following exception:
Validation Error
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught:
java.lang.NullPointerException, msg=null
null
I get this exception when the browser session is open for long period of time (I tried to time it but could not see consistent outcome. But usually it happens after about 1 hour).
And also the exception is thrown only for the JSP that was used (before timeout happened). I can still access other JSPs in the application that were not used earlier.
These random exceptions are making the whole application unusable. The user has to close the browser session and start over again.
Thaks in advance for the help.

Following are the settings for my application:
The session time out is 35 minutes (<session-timeout>35</session-timeout> in web.xml)
jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage is 600000 milliseconds (or 'Idle Instance Timeout' is 600 secs. or 10 mins.)
My application times out after 35 mins. and the user has to re-login (I handle this in my application by checking some session parameters that I set on login). The application works fine again except that sometimes I get the exception that I mentioned in this thread.

  • UIX, Struts, ADF and JSP

    Hi guys. My manager asked me to spell out these different strategies and I fell quite short of an adequate summary. I was wondering if someone could breifly define the following technologies and perhaps explain why you would use them. Additionally, we are embarking on a new project and are unsure of which technology to base it on (we will create a BC4J layer). It is a web application which may end up serving many anonymous users.
    UIX
    STRUTS
    ADF
    JSP (as used in JDev9.0.3.3 - Create a complete JSP application).
    Thank you in advance for your time and consideration!
    ~Rob Lundeen

    Here is a quick one:
    Oracle ADF - A framework for building J2EE applications. Based on the Model-View-Controller architecture. Offers flexability in choosing implementation for the different layers.
    STRUTS - a popular open source controller for managing the flow of Web applications when using the MVC architecture. Used as the controller for Oracle ADF based applications.
    JSP - One way to build your Web user interfaces or View layer in Oracle ADF.
    UIX - Another way to build the View layer for your application. Provides a set of rich HTML component and built-in functionality. Uses a declarative approach to building the page. Will evolve to become a JSF implementation.
    BC4J - Now renamed to Oracle ADF Business Components - one of the way to implement the data source (or Business services) layer in Oracle ADF applications. Other ways include EJBs, Web Services, TopLink, or simple Javabeans.
    I hope this helps,
    Shay,
    Oracle.

  • JBO-29000 Exception: ContentDB Data control

    Hi,
    After sucessfully establishing the Data control connection with content db http://servername:port/content/ws for the first time, I got the following error
    oracle.jbo.JboException: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.NullPointerException, msg=null     at oracle.adf.model.binding.DCDataControlReference.getDataControl(DCDataControlReference.java:56)     at oracle.adf.model.BindingContext.get(BindingContext.java:457)     at oracle.adf.model.binding.DCUtil.findSpelObject(DCUtil.java:280)     at oracle.adf.model.binding.DCUtil.findSpelObject(DCUtil.java:248)     at oracle.adf.model.binding.DCUtil.findContextObject(DCUtil.java:383)     at oracle.adf.model.binding.DCIteratorBinding.<init>(DCIteratorBinding.java:127)     at oracle.jbo.uicli.binding.JUIteratorBinding.<init>(JUIteratorBinding.java:60)
    Do I need to add/configure some more setting after setting up the data control? I am confused where do I need to input DB credentials. I don't know what I am missing. Please help

    hi !
    unfortunately this is a pretty generic error, but from the error stack you posted it seems that there is something wrong with the data control ... well ... what exactly it does not say.
    therefore here a couple of questions:
    -) has it ever worked or do you get this error when you try to run the page ?
    -) have you tried editing the data control (right click on the data control in palette and use the "edit" item in the context menu) to see if the test button still successfully works ?
    -) have you tried whether the CDB instance (with the URL you gave in the data control) is still accessible ?
    -) have you tried to create a new data control (optionally in a brand new project) ?
    regarding the credential question there are two possible scenarios:
    -) if your app is not secured or all users should use the same credentials, provide the necessary credentials in the wizard.
    -) if your app is secured and you want to pass the application identity to CDB, you need to set up a secure connection to CDB using WSS or S2S (depending on which version of CDB you are using) and check the corresponding box in the wizard, right below the credential input fields.
    thanks,
    philipp

  • Jdev9.0.3 JSP STRUTS ADF application problem with jdve10.1.3 and 10g IAS

    Hello, All,
    My current application is developed with jdev9.0.3 and deployed to OC4J 9.0.4 on ias, it works fine.
    Now I need to deploy it to our new 10g application server. the application run into the following error:
    NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdeveloper/html/HTMLElement
    at oracle.adf.controller.struts.util.ErrorReporting.addError(ErrorReporting.java:99)
    at oracle.adf.controller.struts.util.ErrorReporting.addError(ErrorReporting.java:94)
    Then I tried to migrate the application to jdev10.1.3 first, the code run into some red lines, e.g. <c:out .../> can't be within <c:set.../>, but it compiled ok and run fine within jdeveloper.
    But when I deployed the new .war file into the 10g server, now I run into different set of error(Please see belowe).
    Is there anything I need to do when I deploy a jdev903 application to 10g server, or migrating to jdev10.1.3?
    Any advice will be appreciated,

  • 10g Struts/ADF: Problem with updating a DataAction

    We have a web application (JSP/Struts/ADF) that we developed using the 10g (build 1542) Struts Page Flow designer. It is a great tool for building the application the first time but when we go to change something, DataActions end up being ignored when the application is run.
    Here is the scenario:
    We have SQL-based VOs which require a paramter at run-time. We use a Struts DataAction to bind the VO SQL query through a custom method in the App Module (AM). This works fine the first time that we create it and run it.
    The problem comes when we want to change the custom method (which was already associated with a DataAction) in the AM and then rebuild and run the app, it looks like the DataAction is not there and we get an error on the DataPage (that the DataAction forwards to) which says that "not all variables bound". We have printlns in the custom method so we know when it is accessed and in the scenario that I pose here, the custom method is not called.
    This has also occurred when we had a DataPage forward to another DataPage and then later we added a DataAction in between. The application continued to forward from the DataPage to the DataPage completely ignoring the DataAction that we added and that can be seen on the Struts diagram.
    The only way that we have been able to work around this issue is to delete the Data Action and the DataPage from the struts diagram and then recreate them under a different name. This seems like it is a bug and I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?
    Is this a known bug which will be fixed in the production release?
    Thanks, Les

    This seems to be related to Bug# 3537056.
    Please contact Worldwide Support and register that you are running into this bug. Unfortunately, the bug doesn't list a workaround at present.
    Once you have correctly set SelectMethod=Cursor and passed the -Djbo.sql92.locktrailer=null runtime parameter to avoid using the FOR UPDATE clause, you hit an issue when the UPDATE statement is issued that our developers are looking into.

  • How is the processing speed while using struts,spring,and JSF framework

    Hi friends,
    As per earlier technology like Servlets,I mean that there would have much more performance speed than other new technologies like JSP,struts,spring and hibernate framework.Because,in new technologies,flow of processings implicitly via MVC2 basis will probably much more time than older one.
    Total goal is only for attaining MVC2 or any other purpose?
    Please clarify my doubt?
    With Regards,
    Stalin.G

    Home grown applications have a problem in that as more and more features are added, it becomes increasingly impossible to maintain the application and enhance it. This is especially true when the original programmers leave the company. A framework provides a standard design approach that other programmers can hopefully more easily pick up.
    A lot of work has gone into creating these frameworks and they have been used in web sites that have millions of hits from users per day. They have high preformance. Of course, programmers can still write bad code in them that slows down the system. I believe anyone using these frameworks should study them well before using them (such as reading books on them).

  • JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.adf.share.security.ADFSecuri

    Does anyone get the following exception when trying to run their EJB application? I'm running JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 and trying to run my application via right click after deploying the application. I get the same error when trying to run my test programs that use a MySql JDBC data source. Note the data source tests, ok itself. If I turn off ADF security via the secure->Configure ADF Security menu, then everything is fine. Please HELP!!!!

    Good question. I use the same jazn-data.xml file that several other people use which does have entitlement and resource grants. However, on my overview using Jdev 11.1.1.4 it doesn't show any. The same jazn file on version 11.1.1.3 shows several resource/entitlement grants on the overview. This appears to be a Jdeveloper bug, or I could be missing something.

    seems the issue was caused by the lack of heap memory for the JVM container of OACORE process: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError", therefore by bouncing the OACORE process you have resolved the issue.
    However you should consider increasing the heap memory (or the number of JVMs) so you can avoid in the future such kind of issues caused by the load on the instance because the high number of users. For more information please see doc. JVM: Guidelines to setup the Java Virtual Machine in Apps Ebusiness Suite 11i and R12 (Doc ID 362851.1)
    For R12.1 and higher the minimum values you should have configured in $ORA_CONFIG_HOME/10.1.3/opmn/conf/opmn.xml are:
    -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    -XX:NewRatio=2 -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps

  • Struts Actions and events in one jsp?!

    Hello,
    I have a problem with Struts actions and events in a jsp.
    It is a search page and when the user clicks the search button I trigger an event and when the user clicks on a link in the result table (same page) I use an action that opens a new detail jsp. The first search query works well, I get a result, open the detail page, go back (using an action).
    Then I start a new search, but struts tries to open the detail page. While debugging I found out, that struts apparantly has no action or event. Why does it work at first time?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Britta

    Thanks for answer,
    I work with actions AND events. I think that`s the problem. When I go back from detail page to search page I use a custom DataForwardAction class with the following method:
    public void onCancel(DataActionContext ctx)
    DCBindingContainer bc = ctx.getBindingContainer();
    HttpServletRequest request = ctx.getHttpServletRequest();
    WebUtils.setSession(request);
    String ziel = request.getParameter("ziel");
    JUCtrlActionBinding action = (JUCtrlActionBinding) bc.findCtrlBinding("Rollback");
    action.doIt();
    try
    ctx.setActionForward(ziel);
    catch (Exception e)
    ctx.setActionForward("liste_freig");
    Ziel has the correct value ("search") and I think the struts config is also correct:
    <action path="/material" type="view.actions.materialAction" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" parameter="/material.jsp" name="DataForm">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="generalUIModel"/>
    <forward name="liste_freig" path="/liste_freig.do"/>
    <forward name="liste_angelegt" path="/liste_angelegt.do"/>
    <forward name="list_bewertet" path="/list_bewertet.do"/>
    <forward name="liste_abgelehnt" path="/liste_abgelehnt.do"/>
    <forward name="liste_onhold" path="/liste_onhold.do"/>
    <forward name="search" path="/search.do?action=search"/>
    </action>
    But when I get back from material page to search page (the first time it works). The location pathname is material.do not search.do When start a new search the material page opens, not, as desired, the search page with new results.
    Search Action:
    public class searchAction extends DataForwardAction
    public searchAction()
    protected void prepareModel(DataActionContext ctx) throws Exception
    HttpServletRequest request = ctx.getHttpServletRequest();
    DataActionMapping acmap = ctx.getActionMapping();
    DCBindingContainer bc = ctx.getBindingContainer();
    WebUtils.setSession(request);
    JUCtrlActionBinding action = (JUCtrlActionBinding) bc.findCtrlBinding("delSearchQuery");
    action.doIt();
    String sEvent=null;
    try
    sEvent=request.getParameter("event");
    catch (Exception e)
    sEvent=null;
    if (sEvent==null)
    if (request.getParameter("action") != null)
    if (request.getParameter("action").equals("material"))
    Number mat_no=new Number(request.getParameter("MaterialNumber"));
    Number userId=new Number(WebUtils.getUserId(request));
    bc = ctx.getBindingContainer();
    action = (JUCtrlActionBinding) bc.findCtrlBinding("prepareMaterial");
    ArrayList arrayList= new ArrayList();
    arrayList.add(0,mat_no);
    arrayList.add(1,userId);
    action.setParams(arrayList);
    action.doIt();
    ctx.setActionForward("material");
    if (request.getParameter("action").equals("material_datasheet"))
    ctx.setActionForward("material_datasheet");
    super.prepareModel(ctx);
    public void onSearch(DataActionContext ctx)
    DCBindingContainer bc = ctx.getBindingContainer();
    HttpServletRequest request = ctx.getHttpServletRequest();
    WebUtils.setSession(request);
    ctx.setActionForward("search");
    Struts config:
    <action path="/search" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="view.actions.searchAction" name="DataForm" parameter="/search.jsp">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="searchUIModel"/>
    <forward name="search" path="/search.do?action=search"/>
    <forward name="material" path="/material.do?action=material"/>
    <forward name="material_datasheet" path="/material_datasheet.do?action=material_datasheet"/>
    </action>
    I think it`s a Struts bug. Or is there something I don`t see?

    1. Check your face-config.xml, you might be setting a binding container reference in one of the manage bean properties.
    2. Check your bean source file and ensure you have a instance var defined with the same name from the face-config.xml and also you have setter/getters for the var.
