Help needed to sort out icon settings

Hello!
The other day I ran an ordinary update and now I noticed that a the appearance and a few icons for some programs has changed (Minitube, PCManFM, Kupfer). The thing that bothers me now is that one icon in Kupfer either looks ugly or is missing and that I don't know how to change it. Ever since I installed this system (running Compiz standalone) the themes / icon settings have been left intact.
Kupfer is supposed to look like this (notice the gear icons next to "Launch"):

But now the "Launch" icon looks like this:

Oh, and one more thing: apparently the package gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-symbolic were reported as not being used by any program, so I removed those, which didn't seem to make any difference (neither did reinstalling those packages).
What (in any recent update) caused this change to the icons? How can I change or revert it? Thanks for any hints!

I also changed an environmental variable to DESKTOP_SESSION="gnome" (even though running Compiz standalone) a while ago, because the Minitube documentation said to do this in case toolbar icons in Minitube aren't showing, and changing that environmental variable changed the look of some elements in my setup (for instance, the scroll bars in applications are now looking differently). However, the Kupfer icons were still correct at that point even after changing this.

Help needed to sort out the FCP numbers minefield - older G5

I am incredibly new to Mac computers and I have to say my experience up to yet has been anything but fun! It has been a time of confusion, great expense and constantly incorrect advice. So I do hope someone within these discussion groups can help me not throw this old G5 out of the window!!
This G5 arrived with OS 10.3 Panther loaded (including installation discs). I wanted to buy and learn to use Final Cut Pro and knew that only an older version would be suitable for this G5. I upgraded the RAM too so it now has the maximum it can handle. Not being hugely wealthy, I tried to find a copy of FCP 3 as I was told that was absolutely the latest version my G5 could handle, even with my 'new' OS 10.4 Tiger that I bought and successfully loaded.
I could not easily find an old FCP 3 for some time, them managed to buy one, but although I had asked if all serial numbers etc were present and told that they were, it has been impossible to load. The CD must be in the drive which is not a problem - as this is an Academic version there are several discs with it, so I assume it was used in a school ICT suite. The fact that I wouldn't be able to upgrade was not a problem as I simply wanted to learn the software and maybe buy a more up to date Mac and software later when funds permitted.
So I have this G5, two OS versions, a copy of FCP 3 Academic which I cannot load and people advising that I should buy Final Cut Suite as then I could use the FCP 6 and everything would be fine. One man even told me that it was clear to him that I had bought not FCP 3 but FCS 3!!
Please help. What version of Final Cut Pro can I run on this machine (PPC processors, NOT Intel) with the OS that I have? Or shall I simply launch the Mac through the window with me following after it?!

I checked and it does not appear in the Applications folder.
I tried yesterday on an ethernet connection with a download speed of 2 Mbps but, unfortunately the connection died(It happened from the ISP end, which is out of my control) in between after which there was no trace of the download that happened for so long(till the internet connection death).
One more serious query which I am unable to understand. If the internet connection, dies in the midst of the download is in progress why is it so that the state does not persist and one has to restart the entire process again. Is there no solution for this?
I tried so many times and its the same case after some amount of download it vanishes. So many unsuccessful attempts. I am ****** off now. Is it not possible to see Mavericks? Why does different machines of Apple behave differently? Somewhere it goes smoothly and somewhere like my mine. Why did not Apple release a non apple store version? Is this not a bad sign of letting the users struggle when something is being offered for free?
The reason I asked as whether we can download the .app of Mavericks is that, there are so many applications that I have downloaded web and have installed. All that works fine. Can't we do the same here? You download a copy of Mavericks installer application and upload it for me in Google drive or like online storage places which can be downloaded and used by me? Help me understand.

While I am creating the below procedure in MAIN_USER, I am getting the error ‘ORA-00942: table or view does not exist’ in the insert statement line FROM TMP_USER.PROD_MASTER.

If the code works for TMP_USER but not for MAIN_USER, then the privileges are not the same. I'm assuming DBA,CONNECT,RESOURCE are roles. Roles are not the only thing that can be assigned to users. Users can have the same roles, but access to different objects. In this case, it looks like one user has access to the table, and the other doesn't.

Help needed for sorting contacts

Long time User of Treos (Palm Versions) and I just purchased Treo 800W. Love the speed and versatility however having problem sorting out contacts. In the Palm Versions, I was allowed to use sub folders in my outlook however when contacting the help desk, I was notified I have to put my all my contacts in one folder (Contacts). Needless to say when you have many contacts you will not be able to find them efficiently. Need help in the best way to sort out contacts and have them filed accordingly. Please advise and thanks.

Hi .. Welcome to Palm forums. In contacts on the 800w there is a option for catagories. You can create different catagories as you wish. You can also do the same in outlook. Then on the device you will find a filter option and when selected will show only the catagory you select at the time, for instance business. Now for searching if you type in the entire name it will take a long time to find the contact if it ever does. The way to search is to enter the first initial space last initial. To further specify you can add additional initials ie, first initial space last two initials.

Help needed for iphone 4s render settings AE

I have created a sequence of intro screens for a iphone game i am developing. I have my comp settings to 960x640 (screen size). When i render it out and preview it on an iphone 4s, there is a black gap along the edges of the animation and i can not seem to make the animation fit the iphone screen full to the boarders.
QUESTIONS:
Is there a specific pixel aspect ratio i need to set it to in my comp settings?
Is there specific rendering settings i needs to set it to (h.264, Quicktime, etc.)
I have played around with several different settings combinations and can not make the black boarder go away/make the animation fit the entire screen.

Most video files require an app to run them and that app will have prefs for going full screen mode. I doubt it is a setting in the video file. However, the SDK may provide information on setting special flags that trigger a format change in the player application. The specifications must exist someplace in your SDK. If you can give them to us, we'll help you figure it out.
As long as you're going to all that experimenting, please let us know what your results are. There will be other seekers like you in the future, trying to fill the iOS device screen with video clips. Your experience will help those people solve similar problems.

A query on Flexfield and valuesets.Please help me in sorting out

We have created a structure in descriptive flexfield with 4 to 5 segments. Among those one segment has a value set with independent validation type. And all the other segments have value set with dependent validation type on the first segment.
Now the requirement as per client is as follows:
If first segment is taken as YES, all the other segments are to be displayed and enabled. If it is NO, then all the segments have to disabled.
We are able to get it in case of YES but if it is NO, all the segments are being displayed.But we even want them to disable or display off.
Please help me out in sorting out this issue.

I don't think thats possible, when you have a valueset in which you are referencing a previous parameter using the $FLEX.<Parameter_name> property, apps automatically sets the dependency. The dependent item is automatically enabled as soon as you enter a value in the dependable field. There is no way to set this dependency conditionally.
What you can do instead is change the query of your valuesets so that it does not have any records
i.e $FLEX.<Parameter> = 'YES'

Help! I'm literally due to have a baby today and need to sort out video footage storage

I just went to check that the battery is charged on the camera and got a notice saying the hard drive is full!.!!!!!!!!
I have previously imported the video onto our Desktop Mac ( which is currently in storage) and think I have a back up too, but I'm worried about whether the data, once imported is usable in other formats. Ie if we change program or operating system later.
I have purchased an external harddrive and dropped and dragged to copy the files from the camera itself, but when done that way, can't seem to play the files directly from that drive using either Imovie or Quicktime. My Mac Pro is full and I need to clear some more room on the camera but I'm terrified to delete precious footage of our other baby.
I'm no techno, I know I'm using a Sony HDD camera, and IMovie 09 version 8.0.6.

It is best to keep a copy of the entire contents of the camera. You need all the folders, even the empty ones. If you have this, you can import the footage into iMovie or Final Cut later without losing anything,
An easy way to do this is to go to your iMovie import screen. Toward the bottom, it should have an option to Create Camera Archive. This will transfer all the contents of the camera to your hard drive, and can be imported later.
If this footage is important to you, I would recommend that you also back it up to a second hard drive.
Once you have it stored and backed up, it is safe to delete the files from your camera.
To answer your other question, if you have already imported the AVCHD files to iMovie, then yes you will have them, and yes you can use them in other programs. On import, they are converted to Apple Intermediate Codec, which certainly any Apple video editing program can read. I don't know if they would be easily readable on Windows. When they are converted to Apple Intermediate Codec, they get 6 to 10 times larger than the files on the camera. This is because AVCHD is a highly compressed codec, and not suitable for editing.
So, yes, you have the AIC copy of your events in iMovie, and that is probably enough, but it is good practice to keep the raw AVCHD files. This lets you keep a copy in a compressed form, and gives you a copy that is exactly as you took it on the camera, before any processing.

I have a report query as follows:

I need to display the report in the same order as select statement (start_date,exp_type,id etc). I have given default sort order in report attributes and user enabled sort on all columns. The report attributes look as shown below:
column_name / sort / sort_seq
start_date / yes / 3
exp_type / yes / 1
id / yes / -
acct_ref / yes / -
dept_ref / yes / 2
item_date / yes / 4
Now my problem is that the start date sorts alphabetically (as varchar) instead of chronologically (date wise). How can I resolve this?
If I change my default sort order so that start_date is sorted 1st, it works perfectly fine. Is there any restriction for APEX sort that says the column displayed needs to be sorted in the same order? How do I overcome it? Or is it possible to overcome it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. But no I cannot change it to date, as there are many applications using it for displaying the period. But I found an equivalent date column for that period and tried using that. It was not working.
I did further analysis and found that even to_char(period) works fine. The problem was something else. In my region query the select statement was
select exp_type
,id
,amt
,to_date(period,'MON-YYYY')
from test.
I then had in region attributes used the arrows to change order of display, so that period appears first. That was the culprit. When I change my region query, to match the order in region attributes the date column as well as to_date(period) both work fine.
I never knew that the order of select statement and that in region attributes should match each other!!! And hence when posting I did not give importance to the order of my select list. Sorry for that.
The mystery is how was it working when i changed the sort order to say "period" 1st and then exp_type (2nd)

Port info needed to sort out firewall issues

A firewall has been set up in my school. I now find that I cannot connect via iChat, Apple software update, Limewire. Does anyone know what ports need to be opened to let me out?????
There is also a wireless network but on my laptop the airport router defaults to 192.168.0.1 even though its using DCHP. It should be I am told 192.168.0.2

I don't know offhand what ports those tools use, but maybe I can help you find out. Open a Terminal window, type the following line EXCEPT the carriage return;netstat -n -p tcp | grep SYN_SENTStart one of the tools in question, wait a moment, then hit the carriage return in the Terminal window. I tested this using 'telnet 78.32.198.5' as a "tool", and gottcp4 0 0 10.20.31.105.64498 78.32.198.5.23 SYN_SENTThe fourth column (10.20.31.105.64498) is the local IP/port used by my "tool"; the fifth column is the remote address and port. As you can see, the remote port used for telnet is 23; you should be able to find the remote ports used by iChat, Software Update, and Limewire similarly.

Help needed with PDF/X -3 settings in ColorSync Utility

Hi, I'm attempting to create a PDF/X-3 document from iWork Pages with full bleed.
Can someone explain the four fields for Trimbox and Bleedbox? For instance, what units are they in? Does the fact that my unit preferences in Pages is centimetres affect them? And what does each field relate to on the document?
So far I've found out I need to add 3mm to our A4 page, but I haven't spoken to the proper IT person at our printer yet.
Oh yeah, and when I open up the PDF/X-3 document in Preview should I be able to see the Bleedbox or bleed lines? Or are these just invisible settings for the printer's computer to use?

To be precise, the implemention does not do what the interface for the implementation implies. What the implementation does is what ColorSync itself does, and does correctly. Tagged objects are honoured, that is, the source ICC profiles are preserved. Untagged objects are tagged, that is, the Generic RGB Profile is assigned to objects in data space RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile is assigned to objects in data space CMYK, and the Generic Gray Profile is assigned to objects in data space Gray. And the reference / simulation / OutputIntent of your choice is embedded, whether it be type PRTR Printer or type MNTR Monitor since as per the technical specification both are permitted.
You cannot change the fallback transform. There is a specific reason for this which was stated by John Zimmerer as Color and Imaging Product Manager following the discussion of the Generic CMYK Profile. John pointed out that the operating system has to have a fallback, but that if the fallback can be customised then it can corrupt the operating system. Technically, this is correct. Suppose I tell you to install an ICC transform with which I intend to invert or zero the colour contrasts and colour cues in your system interface.
You can't change the Generic XXX Profile. These are autoinstalled by the system, and if you try to delete them, the system installs them again ... and again ... and again. This was not the behaviour in the early ColorSync releases. If you go far enough back, you will find that the system did not necessarily have a fallback for CIELa*b D50 2 degree standard observer, now Generic LAB Profile. In other words, the system has to have a source fallback for each data space, including CIALab and CIEXYZ.
Note in passing that the problem of a fallback transform also applies to incoming character data. My porous memory has let slip whether the cut is 10.4 or 10.5, but the principle is that you cannot change the system fallback for character-glyph mapping. The prepress people were in an uproar as they wanted their beloved Adobe Type 1 font program dictionaries as system fallbacks for imaging of incoming character data, but again Adobe Type 1 font program dictionaries are malign more often than not and malign character-glyph transforms could chaotify the system interface strings.
As far as I can make out, the implementation of the PDF/X-3 functionality sets MediaBox = CropBox = BleedBox = TrimBox. This has been the case since PDF/X-3 functionality was introduced into the operating system. Is this right or wrong? Well, it's wrong to have an interface if the interface does not do what it says to do. But beyond that, and from my point of view, if people want to set these parameters, then they need to talk to the person who operates the imposition system, or better still the person who operates the press and the person who operates the imposition system need to have a file format that lets them communicate with the person designing the page. So the way to do this is to support as well the ICC file format for prepress colour-colourant conversion and a postpress processing format for cutting, folding and so forth. I've not followed automation for postpress processing closely, but my sense of it is that there are not as many printers who would know what to do with postpress parameters as there now are who have some sense of what to do with a colour managed printing master.
There are prepress people who are looking for more and more device dependence in printing masters. Peter Breis wants support for spot colour, but he does not consider the consequences. Peter Kleinheider and Bernz Zipper had an article in CreativePro that said the problem with OS X was that there was no support for overprint, OPI links, or transfer curves in PostScript programming. For the record, Peter and Bernd are wrong. Transfer curves don't belong in PDF printing masters, because they change the calibration of the RIP relative to the calibration characterised in the ICC profile for the printing condition, which is harakiri. And OPI brings in EPS DCS that cannot be properly colour managed in proofing, for instance.
One can argue back and forth about type, should the system make the supposition that type is to be imaged on one and only one class of device: a separations device that has a separate colourant unit half a meter apart for each process plane? In this case, type should be set to image on the K plane only. As it is, type is set to image on the four process planes, so 10 point Garamond prints in four inking units on an offset lithographic printing press instead of on one inking unit. Paradoxically, when GX was reviewed by Jonathan Seybold in May 1992, he complained that the imaging model did not support more than one colourant for type. Users of Apple Pages are colouring type like crazy and are completely clueless about the consequences for a separations device, as I suspect from time to time was Jonathan Seybold -:).
It is significantly simpler to understand PDF in OS X by comparing with PDD in GX. In both strategies, the idea is to image in a view port model instead of in a program-interpreter model since the latter has long been proven inherently unreliable. In both strategies, the idea is to use page description model in the view port model as spool file format internally, presently replacing PDF with PS as internal spool file format. And in both strategies, the idea is to limit device dependent parameters in the spool file format as much as possible. The problem with device dependent parameters is that an awful lot of prior agreement, more or less private, has to take place which militates against blind exchange of portable documents.
There is non-sense implementation and there is non-sense opinion on non-sense implementation. Which is the more non-sensical I wouldn't know. There are plenty of people burning my effigy already, so a few more won't make much of a difference.
