Help on SQLJ :)

Hello All,
Have just started with <i>Open SQL/SQLJ</i> and have tried the 1st program on <i>Relational Persistence</i> on link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/b8/092492099b7c44b266c3128624076e/frameset.htm
I have read that SQLJ is not so compatible with JDBC. So wanted to know that when SQLJ is translated, does it talk to the databse using JDBC internally?
Example: SQLJ -> converted to JDBC -> interaction with DB.
Just by learning about the db schema from the Catalog, how does SQLJ commands be understood by the database?
Awaiting Reply.
Thanks & Warm Regards,
Ritu

    HI experts,
    In my query, I want to get month and year of a date column (publication_date for example)
    I do : Month(publication_date) , but it always throws an error like : MONTH is reserved keyword that was not expected here.
    If you know, please tell me the solution for that.
    Best regards.

    What is the data type in DB2 and Oracle for 'columnB'?

  • Help using "WHERE col_N IN (?,?,?)" clause in SQLJ stmnt

    Hi All,
    I need assistance with a SQLJ SELECT statement that includes a 'WHERE <colN> IN (<value list>) clause with <value list> consisting of a set of host variables. Unfortunately, I can find NO reference to such a clause - spefically, a WHERE that includes the IN operator - in any of the standard JDBC reference material - e.g., JDBC API Tutorial & Reference, 2nd Ed. from Sun, Oracle JDBC/SQLJ programming references, etc..
    I need to implement a SELECT stmnt similar to the following:
    SELECT *
    FROM locations
    WHERE city IN ('Atlanta','San Francisco','Columbus')
    If I know ahead of time how many Strings will be in my set of values, building the statement using host variables is straight-forward:
    #sqlj myIterator = {
    SELECT *
    FROM locations
    WHERE city IN (:city1, :city2, :city3)
    My problem is that I don't know ahead of time how many cities will be in my list. Since SQLJ cannot handle dynamically built SELECT statements, I cannot construct
    my statement at runtime and simply add as many '?' as are required.
    I had hoped that I could simply put a single '?' and bind an array of Strings to it - e.g.:
    String[] arValues = new String[3];
    arValue[0] = new String('Atlanta');
    arValue[1] = new String('San Francisco');
    arValue[2] = new String('Columbus');
    #sqlj myIterator = {
    SELECT *
    FROM locations
    WHERE city IN (:arValue)
    This does not appear to work.
    Can anyone provide information on how to implement this kind of PrepStmnt in JDK v1.1.8/JDBC v2.0?
    Thanks ahead of time for any help provided!
    Cheers,
    BillB

    Well, this is the eternal problem that many people faced at least once.
    At least, for JDBC, I find no other solution for to make my own jdbc layer on top of standard jdbc (oracle for exemple), to handle the variable (?,?,?...) by building, when needed, a new query string (using a cache for these already constructed, otherwise, it would be slow to build each time the query string).
    As for SQLJ, I don't think there is a way, though, as SQLJ is a script, they could add it easily on top of it like I did with JDBC.

  • SQLJ connection help?

    I don't know if I writing the code correctly for SQLJ to connect to the database.
    But when I wrote it, it show me error on statement DefaultContext c1 = Oracle.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin@url", "ID", "Password", true);

    Can anybody help me, I'm new to database. I got the Oracle.getConnection() from the Oracle 9i Programming book. Is this the right statement to connect to the database?

    This is wrong pretty much in it's entirety. Whatever book you are using can go in the rubbish bin right now.
    You do not import db specific or driver specific packages.
    Your error is a classpath/configuration error..

    user496645,
    Is straight JDBC OK? It's not complete, but hopefully it will get you going in the right direction.
    [NOTE: Uncompiled and untested!]
    String[] fname = {"Scott","Mike","Sally"};
    String[] lname = {"Jones","Smith","Miller"};
    String sql = "INSERT INTO users VALUES (?, ?)";
    Connection c = // However you get it.
    PreparedStatement ps = c.prepareStatement(sql);
    for (int i = 0; i < fname.length; i++) {
      ps.setString(1, fname[ i ]);
      ps.setString(2, lname[ i ]);
      ps.executeUpdate();

  • Using store procedures with SQLJ - please help!

    I have two questions:
    1.I wrote simple test appllication that uses SQLJ to run store
    procedures from SQL package. It compiles and work fine from
    JDeveloper 3 if I use java version JDK1.2.2_JDeveloper.
    It compiles OK in regular JDK1.2.2 but raise the following
    exception when running:
    profile
    com.itrade.trserver.truser.dbqueries.ItrHistorian_SJProfile0 not
    found: java.io.InvalidClassException: [Ljava.lang.Object;;
    Serializable is incompatible with Externalizable
    Does it mean that I have to use JDeveloper JDK?
    2.When I give other then default package for *.sqlj file the
    *.sqlj file is added to project but I cannot see it in specified
    package (the *.sqlj file is created in the its directory).
    After I compile the project the I can see *.java file in the
    specified package, but compiler gives errors about redefined
    symbols. If I remove *.sqlj file from the project it compiles OK.
    What I am doing wrong?

  • Trouble context in SQLJ (please help)

    Hi,
    I have a problem using "Oracle JDeveloper" as tool to compile sqlj programs.
    I have created a connection conn and I want to use this connection with a context. This is the code that I have writed:
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    import sqlj.*;
    import oracle.sqlj.runtime.*;
    import java.util.Vector;
    import sqlj.runtime.*;
    import java.math.*;
    import sqlj.runtime.ConnectionContext;
    public class Sqlj2 {
    public static Connection getConnection1() throws Exception {
    String driver = "sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver";
    String url = "jdbc:Odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=c:/Oracle/Progetto.mdb";
    String username = ";UID=Roberto;";
    String password = "PWD=prova";
    Class.forName(driver); // load MySQL driver
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url+username+password);
    return conn;
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    Connection connection1 = null;
    try {
    connection1 = getConnection1();
    #sql context Ctx1;
    Ctx1 context = new Ctx1(connection1);
    #sql [context] { SELECT id_dip,nome_dip,budget FROM Dipartimento WHERE budget > 1000 };
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.exit(1);
    } finally {
    try {
    connection1.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    In particular this peace of code give me a trouble:
    Ctx1 context =  new Ctx1(connection1);
    The word "Ctx1" is always red in JDeveloper!!!! I think I import all the classes that I need....
    How can I solve this problem?
    Can you try to run this code to look if the text is red in your compiler?
    Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks!!!

    Ok, so the answer to your original question is: Yes, you can do remote debugging JDeveloper. If you want more info, search the help and look on otn. If you have specific remote debugging questions, post it to the JDeveloper forum.
    For myself, I've only used remote debugging for applications deployed to OC4J. I'm sure it will work for JBoss the same, but I can't be for certain.

  • URGENT Java/SQLJ Help

    This is for my final exam that is due tomorrow. I've been trying everything & I just can't get it to work & my brain is turning to mush at this point. Please let me know if anyone can help...
    We need to generate data for a table based on what is in our host variables & the number of rows is determined by the user. So the idea is that we only store a few names & we can randomly pick combinations of first & last to insert into the database up to the number the user entered (dups are OK).
    So here is the basic code I have... If it stays like this is will just do Scott Jones, Mike Smith & Sally Miller. Then it will have an array out of bounds exception if the user entered anything more than 3. So I know I need to incorporate a random number generation to get different combinations, but I tried sticking the code everywhere & it wouldn't compile. PLEASE HELP!
    String[] fname = new String[] { "Scott", "Mike", "Sally"};
    String[] lname = new String[] { "Jones", "Smith", "Miller"};
    try { for (int i=0; i<intnum; i++)
    { #sql {INSERT INTO users VALUES
    (:(fname), :(lname[i]))};

    Is 'intnum' the number to user put in?
    You want to use the Random class (the Java API is your friend here) to generate a number that is within the range of possible indices for your array. And you want to do this the number of times the user says to (if I understand your problem).
    Good luck with your exam.

  • Help to compile SQLJ in Oracle816 r2 with SDK2 v1.3

    Currently I have SDK2 v.1.3 from SUN installed in my Linux box. When I tried to compile an SQLJ file using the "sqlj" command, it seems that it has internal compile error.
    I read the README.txt in the SQLJ directory, and found this:
    "The SQLJ translator now works with JDK 1.2 [Bug 814692]. Ensure that you are using the proper Oracle JDBC driver file (classes12.zip)."
    Now, the default JDBC driver comes with Oracle 8.1.6 r2 is 'classes111.zip'. Is there a patch or something that can upgrade the JDBC driver so I don't have to download 560Mb of Oracle 8.1.7 just to learn how to use sqlj?
    Thanks.

    I would have expected both JDK 1.1 and JDK 1.2 JDBC driver versions to be distributed with your database. (The 1.2 version, while not certified with JDK 1.3 should work reasonably well.)
    The 8.1.7 JDBC driver is downloadable from OTN - the thin drivers (both JDK 1.1 and JDK 1.2) work with all appropriate Java platforms.
    One more thing: SQLJ 8.1.7 does not work properly under JDK 1.3. As a workaround, you can specify the -passes option (though error messages will not be given on the .sqlj file). A better workaround is to create a script (say "myjavac") that calls javac but captures stdout and stderr and sends both to stdout. Then specify -compiler-executable=myjavac in your sqlj.properties file and you should be in business.

  • How Can I Run A SQLJ Normal Project In SAP NWDS

    I have a question about SQLJ in SAP NWDS.
    1.I created a java dictionary project,and then create the table , then depoly it.it's ok.
    2.I created a java normal project including the above java dictionary project.
    3.I used the SQLJ tech in the java normal project,exporting the opensqllib.jar,sqljapi.jar,sqljc.jar,sqljimpl.jar.
    4.I coded the normal project,and export the project .jar,everything is ok.
    <b>5.But when i runed the project in NWDS,the error appeared:java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/sql/log/OpenSQLException
         at com.ezkj.deom.sqlj.MainApp.main(MainApp.java:21)
    Exception in thread "main"</b>
    How Can I Run A SQLJ Normal Project In SAP NWDS?
    PLS Help me and don't let me alone!

    Tony,
    Why not try to import your SQLJ project in SAP NWDS. Add all the jars mentioned to the project path both for compile time as well as runtime. Now try running he project. Once you are able to bypass java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError, you will get other errors related to SQL statements. These Oracle SQL statements needs to be converted to OpenSQL format.
    Chill out!!!
