Help! Piechart based on checklist column

Hello,
I'm writing this email in regards to difficulties I'm having in making a piechart based on data included solely in one column. First and foremost, I'm trying to make a comprehensive spreadsheet that depicts the check payment status of my organization's clients. To simplify the data and make things easier to view, I set up my spreadsheet in a checklist-format.
As you can see in this image http://www.flickr.com/photos/allanfromchicago/5716840963/in/photostream/  the column I'm trying to base my chart data on is called "Checks Denied." This column shows, in checklist format, those clients whose checks were denied by my bank- for various reasons. The customers who have a check in this column are those whose checks unfortunately did not go through.
In the data, 3 out of 67 clients so far have a check for the "Check Denied Column" which translates to roughly 4.5% of checks being denied. To illustrate the % of customers whose checks went through against the % whose checks unfortunately did not, I decided that a pie chart would be the best vehicle. However, the result was far from successful. Based on this image, http://www.flickr.com/photos/allanfromchicago/5717406596/in/photostream/  you can see that the independent variables are based on each client (all 67 of them), which is far from the desired outcome. Even though I'm only highlighting the "Checks Denied" Column, Numbers is pulling data from the associated rows.
Is it possible to just base my piechart on the one column and have the simple 2 variable legend I'm looking for?

Allan,
There is a common misconception among newcomers that a Pie Chart can look at a column of data and figure out what to do with it. It's a pretty dumb function. You must do the ground work. Further, X vs.Y data and Value vs. Category data are not amenable to Pie Charting. A pie chart takes a 1-dimensional list and charts it as parts of a whole.
So, if you want a Pie Chart to show that 25% of checks bounced and 75% cleared, you must have a table with the values 25% and 75% in it and chart that table. Or, alternately, a table with the number of checks that cleared and the number that bounced. You have to sum up the good checks and the bad checks and only then chart the sums.

    Hello Guys,
    We are in Designing phase Data Modeling of PDW/APS Implementation Project.
    I need urgent help in making a checklist from a DBA perspective.
    Like what are things ill be needing at a time of implementation/Deployment.
    Your expert comments and help will be highly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    You can get good summary of checklist from this article about
    DBA checklist for data warehousing.
    Which highlights on below pointers:
    New system or old. (I.e. Up-gradation vs starting from scratch)
    Complexity of SQL Server architecture
    SQL Server storage
    Determining SQL Server processing power
    SQL Server installation consideration
    SQL Server configuration parameter
    SQL Server security
    SQL Server Database property
    SQL Server jobs and automation
    Protecting SQL Server data
    SQL Server health monitoring and check ups
    SQL Server ownership and control
    based on my real time experience, I will suggest you to keep an eye on
    Load performance (It will be useful when your database(Warehouse) will have huge amount of data)
    System availability (Check for Windows update and up time configuration)
    Deployment methodology should be planned in advance. Development of packages and respective objects should be done systematically.
    Source control mechanism
    Disk space and memory usage
    You might or might not have full rights on production environment, so be prepared to analyze production environment via Select statements [I guess you got my point]
    Proper implementation of Landing , Staging and Mart tables.
    Column size (this can drastically decrease your database size)
    Usage of indexes (Index are good, but at what cost?)
    I hope this will assist you in building your check list.

  • OBIEE 11g : Conditional formatting in Chart view based on different column

    Hi ,
    I would like to add formatting to the bars based on another column.
    Ex: I just want to highlight bars(metric) when it is less than target value.
    We have conditional formatting option in charts but , its working on the same column but not comparing with other columns.
    Thank you..

    Hi, If you have column A and column B , and for example you want the values of column A to get formatted if the the correspoding value of column B less than a specific value. You just go to Criteria -> Get to Column A -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose your Column B , and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value you want"
    Now, In case you want the values of your column A to be formatted if they are less to the corresponding value of colum B, Well, I don't think it is natively integrated, but still, here is an idea :
    You drag again your column B , so that in Criteria -> Selected Columns , you'll have the columns A - B - B , then, you go to the newely added B Column -> Edit Formula and modify the formula to be ColumnA Minus ColumnB.
    Then go back in selected columns to your A Column -> Column Properties -> Conditional Format -> Add Condition -> Choose now the new column ( ColumnA Minus ColumnB ), and then make sure the condition is " Less than the value *0* "
    You can later, go and hide the colum A Minus B from Edit View in Results.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

    values: pct
    The problem is when I want to select all my data in my filter, a sum/mean is done for pct but the results are wrong. Did I missed something ? Is there a way to correct the problem ?

    Hi mi jo,
    It appears that you have created your percentage as a Calculated Column and what you actually want is a Calculated Field.
    You can create a Calculated Field by clicking on the Power Pivot ribbon and using a DAX formula similar to the following:
    Percentage:=DIVIDE(SUM(TableName[number]), SUM(TableName[total]))
    I have formatted this Calculated Field as a percentage and used it to create a Pivot Table:
    Is this what you were after or have I misunderstood the problem?
    Edit: Just took a quick look at the workbook and can see that the pct column is coming in as a fixed value for a row. The above solution should help. A best practice would be to first create a Calculated Field for each of the number and
    total columns such as...
    Sum of Number:=Sum(TableName[number])
    And...
    Sum of Total:=Sum(TableName[total])
    And then finally update this DAX formula:
    Percentage:=DIVIDE(SUM(TableName[number]), SUM(TableName[total]))
    To this...
    Percentage:=DIVIDE([Sum of Number], [Sum of Total])

  • How to filter the Rest Api data based on Taxanomy columns

    Hi Everyone,
    We are using SharePoint2010 Standard Edition.
    I wanted get the library details through REST Api. I am using as below:
    https://SiteUrl/_vti_bin/listdata.svc/Documents?$filter=Title eq 'SharePointDoc'
    Here I am able to get the info regarding "SharePointDoc". But when I am trying to get the details from Taxonomy filter, it didn't.
    Can anyone please tell me how can we filter based on Taxanomy fields.
    Thanks in Advance
    Krishnasandeep

    Hi,
    I understand that you wanted to filter the Rest Api data based on Taxanomy columns.
    Per my knowledge, in SharePoint 2010 , not all types of column are available via REST, most annoyingly managed metadata columns are amongst this group of unsupported column types.
    However, in SharePoint 2013, we can filter list items based on taxonomy (managed metadata) columns.
    Taxonomy fields can be now called via REST API using CAML query in REST calls.
    Here is a great blog for your reference:
    http://www.cleverworkarounds.com/2013/09/23/how-to-filter-on-a-managed-metadata-column-via-rest-in-sharepoint-2013/comment-page-1/
    You’d better to change the REST calls and the CAML query to check whether it works in SharePoint 2010.

  • Creating a dynamic lov based on a column

    Hi,
    I want to create a dynamic lov based on a column in a database-table.
    Eg. the query
    'select code, description from code_table'
    is the contents of the column 'lov_query' in the table 'parameters'.
    For every parameter there can be a different lov-query, but the result is always
    two columns (code and description, number and name, etc.), exactly what you need to use in a lov.
    I've written a (dbms_sql) function that takes the parameter-id and returns the lov_query.
    create or replace function "GET_PMR_LOV"
    (pmr_id in NUMBER)
    return VARCHAR2
    is
    cur INTEGER := DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR;
    fdbk INTEGER;
    l_pmr_id NUMBER(9) := pmr_id;
    l_stmnt VARCHAR2(2000);
    begin
    DBMS_SQL.PARSE
    (cur, 'select pmr.lov_query from parameters pmr where pmr.ID ' || ' = 'L_PMR_ID', DBMS_SQL.NATIVE);
    DBMS_SQL.BIND_VARIABLE (cur, 'L_PMR_ID', l_pmr_id);
    DBMS_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN (cur, 1, l_stmnt, 2000);
    fdbk := DBMS_SQL.EXECUTE (cur);
    fdbk := DBMS_SQL.FETCH_ROWS (cur);
    IF fdbk > 0
    THEN
    DBMS_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE (cur, 1, l_stmnt);
    return (l_stmnt);
    ELSE
    return null;
    END IF;
    DBMS_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR (cur);
    END;
    But now I'm stuck on how to pass on this statement in HTMLDB
    as an dynamic lov, I don't seem to be able to execute this statement
    into the two display and return columns. Any ideas?

    Hello again,
    This lov is on an updatable report-column where the user has to make a choice from an non-named, popup and query-based lov. In the lov-query box I have just put:
    "return get_pmr_lov(:p41_param_id)" (without the quotes ;-)
    Here's my latest version plus an alternative, which both seem to work fine:
    create or replace function "GET_PMR_LOV"
    (pmr_id in NUMBER)
    return VARCHAR2
    is
    cur INTEGER := DBMS_SQL.OPEN_CURSOR;
    fdbk INTEGER;
    l_pmr_id NUMBER(9) := pmr_id;
    l_stmnt VARCHAR2(1000);
    begin
    DBMS_SQL.PARSE (cur, 'select pmr.lov_query from paramaters pmr where pmr.ID ' || '= :L_PMR_ID', DBMS_SQL.NATIVE);
    DBMS_SQL.BIND_VARIABLE (cur, 'L_PMR_ID', l_pmr_id);
    DBMS_SQL.DEFINE_COLUMN (cur, 1, l_stmnt, 1000);
    fdbk := DBMS_SQL.EXECUTE (cur);
    fdbk := DBMS_SQL.FETCH_ROWS (cur);
    IF fdbk > 0 THEN
    DBMS_SQL.COLUMN_VALUE (cur, 1, l_stmnt);
    return (l_stmnt);
    ELSE
    return null;
    END IF;
    DBMS_SQL.CLOSE_CURSOR (cur);
    END;
    create or replace function "GET_PMR_LOV2"
    (pmr_id in NUMBER)
    return VARCHAR2
    is
    l_pmr_id NUMBER(9) := pmr_id;
    l_stmnt VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'select pmr.lov_query from parameters pmr where pmr.ID = :1'
    INTO l_stmnt USING l_pmr_id;
    return l_stmnt;
    END;
    The error-message remains the same, unable to bind :p41_param_id !

  • How to restrict a table with its set of data based on a column value in it?

    Hi,
    I have a scenario in which I have to show a set of data of a pivot table by restricting data based on a column value. I am creating BIP report whose source is from BIA ie.RPD. Based on a column value I want to restrict the data being displayed in the table. Since I also want the hidden data in the first table to be displayed in another table in the same report I cannot restrict the data at the query level i.e at RPD or at BIA. For this reason I used
    <?xdofx:if saw3_ = 1?>
    the pivot table
    <?end if?>
    But it does not restrict any data.
    Also I tried using the if condition inside the table before the row level looping happens. But no good show even then.
    How can I forgo this problem?

  • Deleting duplicate rows based on three columns in Oracle 8i

    Hi all,
    The database we use is Oracle 8i.
    The query below raises the too_many_rows exception when I launch an application. So I want to delete the duplicated rows :
    select polarisation_1, polarisation_2
    into v_pol1_tech, v_pol2_tech
    from v_cfh_lien_element
    where nom_lien = p_nom_lien
    AND num_canal_1 = p_num_canal_1
    AND freq_emise_1 = p_freq_emise_1;
    Notice that with many possible values of the parameters p_nom_lien, p_num_canal_1 and p_freq_emise_1 then the exception is raised.
    So how to delete generally the duplicated rows based on the three columns "nom_lien" , "num_canal_1" and "freq_emise_1" ?
    Thank you very much indeed.

    I asked this question on how to delete duplicates recently and received this suggestion which works well -- except --

    DELETE From CTE
    WHERE RowNum > 1
