Help running forms in 10g

I have compiled all the forms fmb files and generated fmx respectively. Now, how do I run these forms. All the forms fmb and fmx files are residing on Application Server where the OC4J instance is also running. I want to run the forms 10g on the client end. Also can you provide me the correct document regarding this.

Hi Craig,
Actually, you need to identify each configuration by giving it a name inside square brackets []. So, based on your example above, you would need to modify it as follows:
# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes
[department1]
envFile=department1.env
# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes
[department2]
envFile=department2.env
# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes
[department3]
envFile=department3.env
# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes
[department4]
envFile=department4.env
# System parameter: file setting environment variables for the Forms runtime processes
[department5]
envFile=department5.env
You have to have name the configuration section so the App Server can find it when you pass this configuration variable in the URL. Each department will have a >slightly different URL that they will use. For example:
Department 1: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department1
Department 2: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department2
Department 3: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department3
Department 4: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department4
Department 5: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department5
So, after this my configuration file name will still be formsweb.cfg only, right?
And on the client side, when we call the form in department 1, as you said
Department 1: http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department1
here, how does it picks formsweg.cfg file, as we are mentioning config=department1
And, if it picks, then we also need to mention the top level form, right??
For Ex:
http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department1&form=form_1.fmx
OR
Can we just give http://server_name.com:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=department1 and in the department1.env file, can we give as
FORMS_PATH=C:\department1\form_1.fmx or .fmb
And, I have some reports to call in the forms and menus. But they are in older versions. Can I still use them, or need to be upgraded to 10g?

    Hi, i installed forms developer 10g and when i try tu run a form, open de browser but inmediatly appears a message 'internet explorer not working' and close the internet explorer.
    I setted the application server URL and
    web browser location
    check the port 8899
    How can i do ?
    Regards

    OC4J in Developer Suite is started manually. On Windows installation, a shortcut is created for you. It will appear as "Start OC4J Instance" with the other shortcuts used for Forms, for example the one used to start the Builder. When you start OC4J a DOS window will appear. Do NOT terminate this window or OC4J will be terminated.
    Typically, there is no reason to change anything after the installation has been completed. The only settings which need to be made are those on the RUNTIME tab in the Builder, but this has nothing to do with actually running the form from the Builder. These settings simply determine how to pass the necessary URL from the Builder to a browser in order to start a form.

  • Form & reports 10g VS Form & reports 6 ???

    Hi All,
    We have customers that running Form & reports 10g application and they (must) use IAS 10g for deployment.
    But now they are considering to downgrade to Form & Reports 6 (client-server). So they put the Form & Reports to a folder on a server and map the folder to the clients.
    Actually what are the benefits of running Form and Reports 10g on IAS and Browser compared to running Form & Reports 6 on client server mode ?
    Thank you very much,
    xto

    Hi Xto,
    If you use Forms 10g in web mode, thin clinets can be used and hardware cost can be reduced. Only you need to have good application server.
    And you can access the application from browser and no need of installation/setup in client machiens. so maintanance cost also can be reduced.
    These are some of benefits while running in web mode.

  • Run Forms Web on Linux

    Hi,
    How do run Forms web (10g) on Linux Ubuntu 10.10 and Chrome or Firefox?
    I search in Google but don't locate a ideal solution.
    Thanks.

    Do you mean does it run in a browser on Ubuntu or do you want to run the application server on Ubuntu ?

    Same issue here... Been trying to get this working since a week now. I tried all the solutions like memory heap and all but no luck.
    One thing that I would like to know is that, in some threads the resolution was to recompile the INS_FORMS.MK file under /forms/lib32 but with my installation I don't have that "lib32" folder under /forms/ and I can not even find that file anywhere in my entire installation.
    I am using 12.1.1 on Windows Server 2008.
    Any help or guidelines is greatly appreciated.

  • Running first Form from Form Builder 10g

    Hi. I've upgraded my first 6i form to 10g. In Form Builder 10g (for Windows) I execute the form and it opens it in my Internet Explorer (IE) window instead of the traditional Oracle Run-time window.
    This is fine, except IE has a large header area that includes items like the Internet Address Field, the Search Field, the Back and Forward buttons, various icon buttons for printing, finding, the Tabbed Windows, the home button, etc.... With all this additional space taken up in the browser I don't have as much room for my canvas to display.
    Does this mean I have to adjust the canvas size for all my existing forms to fit this smaller IE area or can I somehow free up more space in the IE window by hidding all these default IE items?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    Add these to your WHEN-NEW-FORM_INSTANCE trigger:
    -- browser (main) window
    set_window_property(forms_mdi_window, window_state, maximize);
    --inner window
    set_window_property('YOUR_WINDOW', window_state, maximize);

  • Configuring Forms Builder 10g to run (Ctrl-R) against application server

    I would like to run forms from my working directory against our development application server and config, rather than having a local OC4J running. I have configured this by setting the application server URL runtime preference to "http://<server>.<domain>:80/forms/frmservlet?config=dev". This works fine.
    However, when I run the Form, I get "FRM-40010: Cannot read form H:\Neil\TAF00180.fmx". This is because we open our FMBs from a locally mapped drive (i.e. I opened the FMB from H:\Neil\TAF00180.fmb). When run against the application server it seems Forms Builder trys to run an executable with the same path as the FMB - H:\Neil\TAF00180.fmx, but the application server has no knowledge of a mapped H-drive.
    The only solution I can think of is to have an H-drive mapped on the application server to the same location as our locally mapped network drive.
    This doesn't seem like the correct solution to me. How should we configure Oracle Forms 10g and the application server to allow us to run our own working versions against the applications server and config?

    Slava Natapov wrote:
    I guess Neil concern is that OC4J and Forms Server are using own formsweb.cfg and .env files
    And settings can be different.
    For example what if local formsweb.cfg configured to run Jinitiator, but server formsweb.cfg configured for JPI, or they configured with different lookandfeel parameter, or local and server default.env use different NLS_DATE_FORMAT?Hi Slava, Hi Neil
    I think this is more related to "discipline" for the developers....
    @ Neil : How many developers do you have in your team ?
    Are developers allowed to "customize" their formsweb.cfg and .env files ?
    or more customized basejinit.htm, registry.dat, additional jar files ... etc
    or more using different oracle_home for their installation of Developer Suite.
    @ Slava : Using local formsweb.cfg and .env files might not be a problem if every developer machine is installed the same way (i.e. the same oracle_home).
    Also, I don't think that using workingDirectory to network shared connection for each developer is a solution
    [dev1]
    workingDirectory= H:/dev1
    [dev2]
    workingDirectory= H:/dev2
    And at least this is requiring customized *.env files ! as the forms_path should be set for runtime in it for each developer.
    The registry entry is only for the builder to find the path to mmb and pll files for example, and compile well, but the runtime is using *.env files.
    And what about developing in windows and deploy it to linux ?
    I recently managed a project with junior and undisciplined developers. The boss had the same concern about each network drive per developer.
    My concern was how to eliminate all subjective considerations..
    And my answer was "Subversion" no mess with local or network version with the "copy of the copy of the copy of the fmb files".
    So all forms_path were set to C:\myApp\forms etc and each developer made a checkout and commit versions twice a day.
    And the Application Server was also "checked out" to have the latest revision and then ran it into a pre-version for production.
    If I had to make some important changes in the *.olb file or the *.pll files then I made a commit for all developers and then re-compile all *.fmb and re-commit and checkout again.
    I really don't matter if the developer used jinitiator or jpi but the right working copy.
    And standalone OC4J was enough to make basics tests for each developer.
    More tests were made by project managers at the application server level and then adjustments (if required) where sent to developers.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Jean-Yves

    I made a form n give EMPLOYEE_MDL for the name.
    I got problem when i try to run form, first time shown "*ORACLE FORMS.*" on browser and then the browser getting blank(just white space), the url is:
    http://red-erie:8889/forms/frmservlet
    Hope you can help me.
    Regards n Thanks
    eRie

    It worked for me in Windows 7 Home premium, both in 32 and 64 bit operating systems...
    What I did was,
    After successful instalaltion of developer suite, I've installed latest JRE from www.java.com and configured formsweb.cfg and default.env file.
    I've used IE8 only. I haven't tested on any other browsers.
    Do modify these lines to configure formsweb.cfg to change to JRE from Jinitiator (As said by CraigB )

  • I need a code to run a report from a forms on 10G...

    Hi!! I´m migrating from 6i to 10G and i cant run a report... can someone send me a sample code to run a report from a form in 10G??
    Thanks!!
    Regards!

    iam using Javabean in oracle 10g forms to tun the report....
    First create a block with a name control and add an bean to it with a name
    userid_bean.click the proerty of the bean and changes its width and height
    so that u cannot see it when u run the particular form.
    now use the below code where u are coding to run the report.
    Declare
    rep_url varchar2(2000);
    begin
    rep_url := '/reports/rwservlet?report=filepath\rep1.RDF' ||
    '&desformat=htmlcss&destype=cache&userid=sample/sample@oracle' || '&paramform=yes';
    -- Write Log messages to the Forms JInitiator console.The Next line must
    -- be disabled before running this code in any production environment.
    set_custom_property('control.userid_bean',1,'ADD_USERID',
    get_application_property(username)||'/'||
              get_application_property(password)||'@'||
              get_application_property(connect_string));
    -- writing the cookie
    set_custom_property('control.userid_bean',1,'WRITE_USERID_COOKIE','10g');
    web.show_document(rep_url,'_blank');
    end;

  • Can't run form from Form Builder 10g - Port configuration problem?

    Hi,
    I have installed the Database (10.2.0.1.0) and the Developer Suite (10.1.2.0.2) on two Linux machines (Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 Basic).
    If I enter the frmservlet-URL manually everything seems to be fine.
    In one case I enter http://127.0.0.1:8890/forms/frmservlet, in the other http://127.0.0.1:8889/forms/frmservlet; in BOTH cases I get eventually a dark square and the status bar says "Applet oracle.forms.engine.Main started".
    HOWEVER, if I create a simple form with Form Builder and click on the Button with the green traffic light ("Run Form"), the form runs only on the machine where frmservlet listens on port 8890.
    On the other machine (frmservlet configured to listen on port 8889) Firefox pops up, the URL "http://127.0.0.1:32979/6dOrpwghCqnp8PhMT7KVT533m3IaArqFbPqPBOztZXWYSsNy" gets called, and nothing else happens. The screen displays the string "ORACLE FORMS." and the status bar says "Waiting for 127.0.0.1...", and it stays like this forever.
    I assume this is a port configuration problem, but I don't have a clue where to start.
    Any suggestions how I should proceed are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you for your reply.
    I doublechecked my configuration.
    In the dialog Edit --> Preferences --> Runtime the Application Server URL is set to "127.0.0.1:8889/forms/frmservlet".
    However, when I attempt to run the form, the URL "http://127.0.0.1:33140/W2dwbV9eXS2fPkuKlxNhCxFWdEihwDviat2uV7ycrSotqwDN" gets called.
    The screen displays the string "ORACLE FORMS." and the status bar says "Waiting for 127.0.0.1...", and that's it.
    I wonder how the port number 33140 got selected. Interestingly, this time it is a different number; last time it was port 32979. In fact, the port number seems to change each time; I tried again and now it is 33189.
    I will now try to set the port number for the frmservlet to 8890.
    I choose Edit --> Preferences --> Runtime and set the application server URL to "127.0.0.1:8890/forms/frmservlet".
    I stop the container, open /home/oracle/OraHome_1/j2ee/DevSuite/config/default-web-site.xml and change the port number to 8890:
    <?xml version="1.0" standalone='yes'?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-site PUBLIC "Oracle Application Server 10g XML Web-site" "http://xmlns.oracle.com/ias/dtds/web-site.dtd">
    <!-- change the host name below to your own host name. Localhost will -->
    <!-- not work with clustering -->
    <!-- also add cluster-island attribute as below
    <web-site host="localhost" port="0" protocol="ajp13"
    display-name="Default Oracle Application Server 10g Java WebSite" cluster-island="1" >
    -->
    <web-site port="8890" protocol="http"
    display-name="Oracle Developer Suite 10g instance of Oracle Containers for J2EE Web Site">
    <!-- Uncomment the following line when using clustering -->
         <!-- <frontend host="your_host_name" port="80" /> -->
         <!-- The default web-app for this site, bound to the root -->
         <default-web-app application="default" name="defaultWebApp" root="/j2ee" />
    <!-- Do not delete this line. -->
    <web-app application="forms" name="formsweb" root="/forms" />
    <!-- -->
    <!-- <web-app application="forms" name="formsweb" root="/forms" /> -->
    <web-app application ="reports" name="web" root="/reports" />
    <web-app application = "reports" name="demo" root="/repdemo" />
         <!-- Access Log, where requests are logged to -->
         <access-log path="../log/default-web-access.log" />
    </web-site>
    I restart the container, start Form Builder, connect to the database, and open my test form.
    When attempting to run the form, the URL "http://127.0.0.1:33437/Pl0n3ky9vmU5z37A7ScBnQhsGwq3jwuzJpgTAKWPMOYIzT8K" gets called (again a new port number, apparently picked radomly within a certain range) and nothing happens: "Waiting for 127.0.0.1...".
    However, when I enter the URL http://127.0.0.1:8890/forms/frmservlet I do (eventually, after confirming that I trust the certificate etc.) get a darc rectangle and the status message "Applet oracle.forms.engine.Main started", which tells me that my setup can't be that far off target.

  • Unable to run forms in oracle forms developer 10g

    I am using oracle forms developer 10g on oracle application Release 12.
    When i run form i am getting error that weblistener is not running on default port 8888. Then i changed it to 8000. But still i am not able to run the forms.

    Nivas,
    In addition to running OC4J, you must also have your browser configured to use a Java Runtime Environment. The easiest - and preferred - method is to install the Oracle JInitiator as there is not configuration needed other than the installation. You can also use Sun's JRE, but you would have to research how to configure your PC correctly. The other option is to change your FormsWeb.cfg file to use the Browser Native JRE. Edit the formsweb.cfg file and find the IE= directive. The Default is IE=jinitiator. Change this to IE=Native, save your changes and you are done. This is not the preferred solution, but it does work.

    1 ) The Tigger " When Mouse Click" does not fires on the web for

    I can only speculate on some of your issues, but maybe they
    might give you some insight on possible alternatives.
    Mouse-Click on Display Item
    The display item does not, by definition allow modification.
    Have you tried changing the item to text and then disabling the
    INSERT and UPDATE properties to NO? I have tried using display
    items in the past, resulting in a grayed-out box on the web. To
    get around this, I made the above changes and created a mouse
    trigger to jump to another field when someone tried to mouse-
    click on it.
    Changing CLASSPATH on OAS 4.0.7
    I had the same results. The OAS installation sets the CLASSPATH
    to what it needs and changing it has the results you describe.
    I am curious, however, are you able to view the form from the
    Developer Forms Designer using the other CLASSPATH. I have not
    been able to use this feature at all. I read somewhere that
    this functionality is not available in the beta version. I
    would appreciate any information that you can share.
    Jinitiator Performance
    Assuming that you have already tried cache settings and short of
    the users having faster machines with more memory, faster web
    access, etc. I don't think there is much we can do but wait for
    Oracle and Sun to make enhancements.
    I have had some success with using IE 5.0 (beta) directly
    without the Jinitiator. My web applications load and run a
    whole lot faster using the same configuration that you describe.
    It might be worth another look!
    Hope this helps.
