Help with a simple pause-code function

For a week I've been trying to figure out a simple pause-code
function fror AS 3.0. I need something that pauses AS code for set
amounts of time. People have tried to help me on this forum, but
I've still not been able to make the code work.
Here is what I have at the moment for pause-code (not
working):
var intID;
intID = setInterval(delay, 3000); //this tells flash to wait
3 seconds
function delay(){
clearInterval(intID);
_root.gotoAndPlay(1); // or do something else...
The person who supplied me with this code did not include the
first line "var intID", but as a new flash user, I wasn't sure how
else to declare intID. Could someone with some flash experience
walk me through the steps of creating a pause-code function or add
to the one I have already provided. When I use the above code in my
flash document, the pause feature does not work at all. It
essentially skips over the setInterval and clearInterval functions
and plays the root clip in delay(). I need code meant for AS 3.0
and I'm becoming increasingly desperate for a response.
I hope this is understandable and thank you for taking a
look,
Sam

Hello KGlad,
Thankyou for that information. I had no idea lol. Could you
please clarify and explain a little more about using the timer
class to delay execution of code? Possibly provide an example? I
would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Sam

  • Help with a 'simple' routine (code)

    Hello all,
    I know I should be better at writing routines but I just cant seem to get the time to practice!
    Please help me with the following.
    I have an infoobject ZHE_YRSES that has 2 attribute 0FISCYEAR and ZFSCYR_ED (both of which are going to be 4 digit years)
    I also have a I have a cube that includes object ZHE_YRSES and a counter ZUQSTUDT
    When the data come into the cube I would like
    ZUQSTUDT to equal (ZFSCYR_ED minus  0FISCYEAR ) + 1
    Please could you let me know what code I need to put in a transformation for something like this!
    I will get better at this I promise!!
    The template is
    METHOD compute_ZUQSTUDT.
    *   IMPORTING
    *     request     type rsrequest
    *     datapackid  type rsdatapid
    *    EXPORTING
    *      RESULT type _ty_s_TG_1-/BIC/ZUQSTUDT

    *$*$ end of routine - insert your code only before this line         *-*
      ENDMETHOD.                    "compute_ZUQSTUDT

    Hi,
    First of all you will have to read the master data and related attributes in start routine, create an internal table of type p table of infoobject ZHE_YRSES and fetch all the reocords.
    Start Routine********************
    Data: i_t_data type  standard table of /bic/pzhe_yrses.
    select zhe_yrses 0fiscyear ZFSCYR_ED from /bic/pzhe_yrses into table i_t_data.
    Field Routine****************
    Later in field routine you can put following code, take ZHE_YRSES infoobject as input to your field routine,
    Inside routine you will have to read the internal table.
    Read table i_t_data into wa_data with key zhe_yrses = source_fields-zhe_yrses.
    if sy-subrc = 0.
    RESULT = wa_data-zfscyr_ed-wa_data-0fiscper+1.
    endif.
    You will get the required value.

    Durgesh.

  • Help with some simple coding

    Hello
    I am very new to Java and am currently studying a course in the language.
    I am working through a tutorial at the moment and a question has been asked and I am struggling a bit
    I have been given the code to a program that creates a window with a ball bouncing around inside the window.
    There are 2 classes (code below) - Call class - this contains all the code need to create the ball and BallWorld Class (the main Class) this create the window and moves the ball, it also detects if the ball hits the edge of the window, whne this happens it redirects the ball. I understand how all this code works
    I have been asked the following:-
    Rather than testing whether or not the ball has hit the wall in the nmain program, we could use inhertitance to provide a specialized forom of Ball. Create a class BoundedBall that inherits from the class Ball. The constructor for this class should provide the height and width of the window, which should be maintained as data fields in the class, rewrite the move method so that the ball moves outside the bound, it automatically reflects its direction. Finally rewrite the BallWorld class to use an instance of BoundedBall rather than ordianary Ball, and elimiante the bounds test in the main program.
    I am having trouble with this and I can not get my code to work, I think I may be going in completly the wrong direction with the code can sombody please provide me with a simple working code for both the BoundedBall and ammended BallWorld class, as this will help me understand whare I am going wrong

  • I need help with some simple code! Please read!

    hi everyone.
    I'm having problems with a piece of code, and i'd be extremely greatful if somebody could give me a hand with it. I'm totally new to java and have to make a program for my university degree, but i'm finding it extremely difficult, mainly due to my total lack of apptitude for this type of thing. I know this is easy stuff, but the books I have are no use so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I have to write a program which uses two class files. I want one with the code to produce a simple button, and one to invoke it several times at different locations. I decided to write the program as one class file at first, and thought i'd be able to split it up at later. The program works fine when it is one class file. My book said that to split the two classes up, all i needed to do was change the second class to public, although this seems to not work at all. I'm at my wits end on this, and if anyone could correct my code I'd be eternally greatful.
    Here is the first class... (sorry about the lack of indentation)
    >>>>>>>>>>
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.applet.Applet;
    public class Phone extends Applet {
    private Image image;
    public void init() {
    setLayout(null);
    image = getImage(getDocumentBase(), "phone.jpg");}
    public void paint (Graphics g) {
    g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, 700, 530, this);
    PhoneButton myButton;
    myButton = new PhoneButton(20,20);
    >>>>>>>
    This is the second class....
    >>>>>>>
    public class PhoneButton {
    private Button butt;
    public PhoneButton(int a, int b, int c){
    setLayout(null);
    butt = new Button();
    butt.setBounds(a,b,20,20);
    add(butt);
    >>>>>>>>
    My compiler generates errors relating to Button, but i can't do anything to please it.
    Also, could anyone give me some pointers on how to add a different number or symbol to each button. That is what I added int c for, but i couldn't get it to work.
    Cheers in advance.
    Michael Morgan

    I found that there are 5 error in your code.
    1. You should import the "java.awt" package to the PhoneButton.java
    2. The PhoneButton is not a kind of Component. You cannot not add it to the Phone class
    3. the myButton = new PhoneButton(20, 20) does not provide enough parameters to create PhoneButton
    4. You cannot add a Button to a PhoneButton. Becaue the PhoneButton is not a kind of Container
    Fixed code:
    import java.awt.*;
    public class PhoneButton extends Button {
    public PhoneButton(int a, int b, int c){
         setBounds(a, b, 20, 20);
         setLabel(String.valueOf(c));

  • Help with a simple code snippet?

    Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong with this bit of code? Its more or less derrived from the Java tutorials, though its mid chapter so lets you make your own mind up about the surrounding code...I'm just trying to get a grip on how notifyAll() and wait() work(). The WaitProcess is suposed to sit there and wait for the NotifyProcess to wake it up. I was expecting both processes to finish after the notifyAll().
    Thanks for any help...

    The object you are waiting on and the object you are
    notifying are different.
    I thought notifyAll() interrupted all threads?No. notifyAll is an instance method (and wait is instance method too) and wakes up only threads, that waits on that object (instance) beeing notified. In your code call
    notifyAll();is actually the same, as
    this.notifyAll();which is notification of objects, that waits on notifying object (but not all waiting threads).
    All synchronization in java is tied to particular instances and is not a "global synchronization". This means, that two threads can simultaneously hold locks (or, other words, execute sections inside synchronized statements), but only on different instances. Lock on the particular instance can be hold by an only one thread at a time. Waiting and notifications are also tied to instances and requires a lock on the used object (i.e. should be executed in the synchronized block for that object). In your code syncronization is performed on different instances: one on the instance of WaitProcess (and wait is preformed on this instance), and second is performed on the instance of NotifyProcess (and notifyAll is performed on this instance). You should use synchonized section in both classes, and this synchonized section should be invoked on the same instance (not on two instances of same class).
    P.S. "interrupted" is wrong word here. notifyAll() "wakes up" threads, which waits on particular lock, allowing them to continue their execution. But "interrupt" means setting "interrupted" flag or throwing InterruptedException (which is abrupt completion of wait method).

  • Need help with a simple process with FTP Adapter and File Adapter

    I am trying out a simple BPEL process that gets a file in opaque mode from a FTP server using a FTP adapter and writes it to the local file system using a File Adapter. However, the file written is always empty (zero bytes). I then tried out the FTPDebatching sample using the same FTP server JNDI name and this work fine surprisingly. I also verified by looking at the FTP server logs that my process actually does hit the FTP server and seems to list the files based on the filtering condition - but it does not issue any GET or RETR commands to actually get the files. I am suspecting that the problem could be in the Receive, Assign or Invoke activities, but I am not able identify what it is.
    I can provide additional info such as the contents of my bpel and wsdl files if needed.
    Would appreciate if someone can help me with this at the earliest.
    Thanks

  • Need urgent help with CS4 button-to-animation functionality

    Problem: I´m making a site who presenting about 11

    mouse-click on the puppets, it should trigger a animation who blows

    to function as it should. Any help would be appreciated. You can
    download the .fla file from here:
    download
    here It´s about 36 MB in size. It´s divided into 4
    scene´s, and the «problem» is in Scene_4. The
    action-script is in the top layer, and except stop commands, most
    of the coding is in frame 2. Update: I have attached the code I
    have used (in frame 2) to start the different animations. CAN PAY
    SOME FOR HELP.

    You'll be more likely to get some help if you attach the code
    that is giving you problems. Aside from the high probability of
    there being little desire to download a 36 MB file, having to sort
    thru it to figure out what code applies to what works against
    anyone wanting to try to help you with this--though you may get
    lucky.

  • Help with a simple program.

    I need some help writing a simple program. Can anybody help??
    thanks to all.
    2. HTML Java Source Code Reserved Word Highlighter
    Write a program that inputs a Java source code file and outputs a copy of that file with Java keywords surrounded with HTML tags for bold type. For example this input:
    public class JavaSource
    public static void main ( String[] args )
    if ( args.length == 3 )
    new BigObject();
    else
    System.out.println("Too few arguments.");
    will be transformed into:
    <B>public</B> <B>class</B> JavaSource
    <B>public</B> <B>static</B> <B>void</B> main ( String[] args )
    <B>if</B> ( args.length == 3 )
    <B>new</B> BigObject();
    <B>else</B>
    System.out.println("Too few arguments.");
    In a browser the code will look like this:
    public class JavaSource
    public static void main ( String[] args )
    if ( args.length == 3 )
    new BigObject();
    else
    System.out.println("Too few arguments.");

    Here is something that may get you started...
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class HtmlJava{
         public static void main(String arg[]){
              if(arg.length!=1){
                   System.out.println("Usage java HtmlJava sourceFile");
              else
                   new HtmlJava(arg[0]);
         HtmlJava(String source){
              try{
                   BufferedReader sourceReader=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream(source)));
                   BufferedWriter writer=new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream(source+"Html.txt")));

                             word=tokenizer.nextToken();
                             if(keywords.contains(word)){
                                  writer.write(""+word+" ");
                             else{
                                  writer.write(word+" ");
                        writer.write("\r\n");
                   writer.close();
                   sourceReader.close();

    magic,
    i think corlettk meant that some people might not know what pascal's triangle is.
    also, you didnt say what was wrong with your code, just that it was wrong.
    asking smart questions is about giving as much information you can to get the
    best answer. i would throw a System.out.print between every line of your
    algorithm. i would also supply us with the values you are getting for each row.
    also, this question is asked all the time here. do a forum search.

  • Elasticity: help with converting Flash 5 code to Flash 8

    Hello
    because I have to make a flash menu with elasticity effect I
    came upon this tutorial:
    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/spring.htm
    All OK but the code there works only with Flash 5. I somehow
    managed to concoct code that works for Flash 6 but still I didn't
    come even close to a code working in Flash 8. I'm using
    Actionscript only from version 7, I do not know anything about
    Flash 5 and 6. So please, the more experienced guys, help me!!
    The code I concocted is:
    MovieClip.prototype.move = function (centerx, centery,
    inertia, k) {
    this.x = -this._x+centerx;
    this.y = -this._y+centery;
    this.xp = this.xp*inertia+this.x*k;
    this.yp = this.yp*inertia+this.y*k;
    this._x += this.xp;
    this._y += this.yp;
    onEnterFrame=function() {
    this.move (_root._xmouse,_root._ymouse,0.9,0.1) ;
    This whole code is on the timeline of the MC being moved.
    So now the only thing I need is to make this code work for
    Flash 8
    Please, help

    Just managed to do it !

  • Query Help with Item Master & Warehouse Code

    Forum,
    I would like help with a query to identify any items within a database where a particular warehouse code does NOT exist against it. At present I have the following:
    select T0.ItemCode, T1.WhsCode from OITM T0
    INNER JOIN OITW T1 on T0.ItemCode = T1.ItemCode
    where T0.ItemCode NOT IN ('WHS1')
    This is returning all other instance and not just a list of item codes where 'WHS1' is missing from within the 'Stock Data' tab.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah...
    Try This
    SELECT T0.ItemCode, T0.ItemName, T1.WhsCode
    FROM OITM T0 INNER JOIN OITW T1 ON T0.ItemCode = T1.ItemCode
    WHERE T1.WhsCode not in ( 'WHS1')

  • Need help with a simple basketball game.

    Hi im new here and I need help with making this simple basketball game.
    Im trying to recreate this game from this video. Im not sure if he is using as2 or as3
    Or if anyone could help me make a game like this or direct me to a link on how to do it It would be greatly appreciated.

    If you couldn't tell whether it is AS2 or AS3, it is doubtful you can turn it from AS2 into AS3, at least not until you learn both languages.  There is no tool made that does it for you.
