Help with an Oracle aplication

Hello everyone,
It is the first time when I go deep into Oracle, and I'm sorry if I didn't post this message at the correct section.
This is my problem: a friend of mine reinstalled his operating system, copied everything from desktop(short-cuts and other stuff) to another folder and installed Windows. Suddenly, he remembered that he had an application ( which he told me was created in Oracle) and now he needs it. He showed me that the shortcut to that application made reference to a .FMX file. All he could told me was that he had something "like 8i"..and I believe it is about Oracle 8i. Please, give me and my friend a hand..how can we reopen this application?

Hi. This probably isn't the best place for your query, but I will attempt to help some. An .fmx file is a compiled Oracle form, not APEX. To run a form, you need an Oracle application server (forms server) installed somewhere.... somewhere that has a forms configuration file that points to the first form, and a corresponding entry (ie: config=PROD and the form form.fmx
HTH some. I am rebooting my app server right now or I would be more specific. I have to hunt around a bit for the EXACT location of the config, but I am at Oracle 10g, what version are you on? I usually go in via the Enterprise Manager (EM) control to make changes.

Help with the Oracle Fusion Order Demo deployment to Weblogic Server

Hello all,
I am new to SOA and am in the process of understanding SOA concepts. I am trying to deploy the Fusion Order Demo sample application to the Weblogic server. I am getting error when running the ant task "server-setup-seed-deploy-test" which deploys the Composite applications to the Weblogic Server. The ant log is pasted at the end of the post. The only difference i found from the instructions is that i do not have a AS11gR1SOA directory in my MW_HOME. Instead i have Oracle_SOA1 and i gave that directory's path for the parameter "soa.server.oracle.home".
I tried running the sub tasks in the "server-setup-seed-deploy-test" individually and only the last task "test-fod-composite-end2end" failed. Since the other tasks like "compile-deploy-all" were successfull, I tried to see the deployed applications in the soa domain. When i checked the soa domain in the Weblogic server console, I see only the "B2BX12OrderGateway" under the soa-infra. The OrderBookingComposite and others are not deployed.
Please help me in fixing this. Hope I have explained the problem correctly.

Looking for some help with using Oracle stored procedures in vb2010

First off thank you to whoever lends me a hand with my problem. A little background first I am in a software development class and we are currently building our program using VB (I have no experience in this), and Oracle(currently in a Oracle class so I know how to use Oracle itself just not with VB).
I am using vb2010 express edition if that helps. Currently I have a stored procedure that takes a 4char "ID" that returns a position (ie, salesperson,manager ect). I want to use the position returned to determine what vb form is displayed (this is acting as a login as you dont want a salesperson accessing the accountants page for payroll ect).

I have read the oracle.net developer guide for using oracle in vb2010 and have successfully gotten through the document however they never use a stored procedure, since the teacher wants this program to user a layered architecture I cannot directly store sql queries like the document does, thus the reason I want to use stored procedures.
This is getting frustrating getting stuck with this having no background in VB, I could easily do this in c++ using file i/o even through it would be a pain in the rear....

Help with Downloading Oracle 9i

This is kind of new to me and I am not a computer expert. I am installing Oracle 9i from the CD and here is the message I am getting:

Help with calling Oracle Procedure

First, let me state that I'm new to Oracle and using it with
ColdFusion, but I've used CF on and off for the past 6 years. So
this might be a simple "newbie" problem with Oracle and CF.
My boss wrote the following simple Oracle procedure to
concatenate three variables together (I know I could do this in CF
directly, but I need to be able to use his existing procedures in
Oracle)

when I run this code I receive the error "ORA-01008: not all
variables bound" and I'm not sure why. Searching Google hasn't come
up with anything and I've used other procedures, but can't seem to
make this one work. I know the procedure works within Oracle as I'm
able to run it.
I would really appreciate any ideas.

Since he wrote his PL/SQL as a FUNCTION instead of a
PROCEDURE, it complicates returning the result to ColdFusion. You
haven't provided any means of capturing the return value of your
function call in your CFSTOREDPROC call. If he had declared this a
procedure, then you probably would have added an OUT parameter to
the PL/SQL and an OUT CFPROCRESULT tag, but since it is a function,
you are going to have to capture the result differently.
Try adding a returncode="yes" parameter to your CFSTOREDPROC
tag, then check the cfstoredproc.statusCode variable for your
returned result value:

Normally, I avoid calling Oracle
functions from ColdFusion because in older versions of CF,
there was no way of capturing the return value, so I rarely ever do
it this way. In other words, I strictly write PL/SQL
procedures for use with ColdFusion. However, if you are
required to work with an existing function, then the method
mentioned above may work for you.

What I would like is to exclude rows where the search word is inside HTML tag attributes, results expected are rows having <a>Auction</a> or <p>For Auction</p> ... etc. Basically stripping the html tags and leave the text contents.
I'd appreciate some input.

Help with Oracle SQL to strip unwanted characters

Hello,
I have 2 columns (Weight and Height) where I need to strip the alpha characters and convert them to numbers (I am required to derive additional columns where I need to present
these values in inches, cm, KG, LB, etc. (and thus the need to convert them to numbers). I am too much a novice to understand the best way to convert these columns into numbers (same precision as you see here).
See the image below for a sample of what these columns currently contain. I simply need help with the Oracle SQL code to parse/convert these vales into number. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

The solution both in SQL Server and Oracle should based on Regular Expressions. I highly recommended NOT to use T-SQL solutions in this case, as mentioned above, unless this is a very small table and the need is very simple and include finding one point
in the string as in
SaravanaC solution (when he assume thge string format is based on 2 parts (1) Number + (2) unit type).

generally im specfiying it in c:\documents and settings\Program, but im installing it from c:\documents and settings\my documents\software.
I got another verson of Orcle, ive downladed the developer sute 10g, in this case the college where i go to use, it to connect. so i expect i will have to really uninstll that and the instll in Oracle Enterprise 10g.

Help with oracle 11g pivot operator

i need some help with oracle 11g pivot operator. is it possible to use multiple columns in the FOR clause and then compare it against multiple set of values.
here is the sql to create some sample data

using case when I can write something like this and get the output i want

what I tried with pivot is like this I get what I want if I have only one ( dept,job) for one alias name. I want to call (30 , 'SALESMAN') or (301 , 'SALESMAN') AS d30_sls. any help how can I do this

this is a simple example .... my real life scenario is compliated with more fields and more combinations .... So something like using substr(dept,1,2) won't work in my real case .
any suggestions get the result similar to what i get in the case when example is really appreciated.

Sorry, I don't think there's any way to get exactly what you requested. The values you give in the PIVOT ... IN clause are exact values, not alternatives.
You could do something like this to map all alternatives to a common value:

Pretty much everybody who posts here needs help with oracle; if they need help with cooking catfish they've come to the wrong place.
It that other thread I suggested using SQL*Loader or External Tables might be a more suitable solution. Find out more.
