Help with an SQL Expression - Return field value where Datetime is Min or First datetime

Hello,
I'm extracting results for a patient population.
I have 6 SQL expressions that pull back the first date for specific procedures or Medications being ordered.
These Expressions work perfect - One of the expressions return the first time a lab was ordered.
I'm using SQL that return
Min(OrderDatetime)
From OrderTable
Where
LABCode = XXX
I've now been ask to return the value of this lab result.
Question: How do I write an SQL expression that return the Lab value of the Min(OrderDatetime)
Example Data
PATID* LABID * OrderDatetime * ResultValue
Pat1*133 * 12/12/2013 11:00:pm * 77
Pat1*145 * 12/12/2013 11:45:pm * 45
Pat1*147 * 12/13/2013 12:10:AM * 78
I was to return 77
Thanks
Steve

Here is what I came up with but I'm getting an error -
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <,>,>= or when the subquery is used as an expression.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi all,
    Before clone the report GEPS FA Prepare Mass Addition Report runs fine. But after cloned from production, it shows error:

    REP-2103: Column 'G_MASS_ADDITION_INVOICE' : PL/SQL formula returned invalid value or no value.
    Actually I didn't have such column 'G_MASS_ADDITION_INVOICE'. This is a group name. I tried a lot, such as widden the formula column width or delete the formula column, but it still show this error. I didn't have any trigger or other formula column. Even I create a new report use the same name with a single query( select sysdate from dual), but it still shows the same error.
    Is there anyone faced this issue before or can help me ? Thanks

  • Help with an SQL Query on the Logger

    We are running UCCE 8.5(3) and need help with an SQL query. When I run the below I would also like to see skill group information(name preferably)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    select * from dbo.t_Termination_Call_Detail where DateTime between '10-11-2012 00:00:00:00' and
    '10-11-2012 23:59:59:59'

    David, thanks for replying.  Unfortunitly I don't know enough about SQL to put that into a query and have it return data.  Would you be able to give an example on what the query would look like?

  • Updating a table with a query that return multiple values

    Hi,
    I'm trying to update a table which contain these fields : ItemID, InventoryID, total amounts
    with a query that return these values itemId, inventoryid and total amounts for each items
    Mind you, not all the rows in the table need to be updated. only a few.
    This what i wrote but doesn't work since the query return multiple values so i can't assign it to journalAmounts.
    UPDATE [bmssa].[etshortagetemp]
    SET JournalAmounts = (SELECT sum(b.BomQty) FROM [bmssa].[Bom] b
    JOIN [bmssa].[SalesLine] sl ON sl.ItemBomId = b.BomId
    JOIN [bmssa].[SalesTable] st ON st.SalesId = sl.SalesId
    WHERE st.SalesType = 0 AND (st.SalesStatus IN (0,1,8,12,13)) AND st.DataAreaId = 'sdi'
    GROUP BY b.itemid, b.inventdimid)
    Any advise how to do this task?

    Remember that link to the documentation posted above that explains exactly how to do this. When you read it which part exactly were you having trouble with?

      THEN RETURN (:P_FR_DT-:MATURITY_DATE+1);
      END IF;
    END;
    It gets compiled successfully but when i run the report, i get 2 errors.
    Error 1:
    REP-1401: 'no_daysformula':Fatal PL/SQL error occurred.
    ora-06503: PL/SQL : Function returned without value.
    Error 2:
    REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.
    Should i use only 1 return statement?
    Can i use as many return statements as i want?
    What is the exact mistake? Please let me know.
    Thank You.

    Let me clear you the first thing...
    If you get any fatal errors while running the report (e.g., function returned without value,no value etc.,) the report will show
    REP-0619: You cannot run without a layout.
    So you just correct the function 'no_daysformula' .
    First of all you run the report without that formula column.
    If it works fine then , Check the return value of your formula column (Your formula column properties --> Return value --> value (It will be DATE as i think so).
    As function will always return a single value, Check your formula 'no_daysformula' returns the same.
    declare a return variable say for example..
    DECLARE
    V_DATE DATE;
    BEGIN
    --YOUR CODE---
    RETURN V_DATE := (RETURN VALUE)
    END;
    Last but not least ... use Else condition to return (NULL or any value ) in your code and check..
    If any Problem persists let me know

    Soofi.

    Hi Community,  first of all, english is not my native language and im not sure to use the correct terms for PowerCenter - so if im wrong please help me correct and make clear what we need. We have a kind of 3-steps ToDo. First step: Load data from an external source into a "local" datastore (its an oracle db on a server in our "hands")Second step: Check data against several verifications, this is done with a PL/SQL Package. The PL/SQL Package shall be called with an Interfacename who is set in the First PowerCenter Mapping. Our current thoghts are to do this via a stored procedure, which runs as "Target Post Load" and gets a variable "Interface Name".Is that possible? Im not quite sure about it. About the last part its even more unclear how we can solve it:Third part should be switch back to PowerCenter now - and the package (or to be correct a function in the package) should return a value for "okay everything fine => workflow continue" or "something happened => workflow is stopped" Im not sure how i can handle this. I hope my explanations are good enough so you can provide some help?!If there are any questions please ask!  Thank you alot, best regards, Christian

    Sudha,
    For a default value type of PL/SQL Expression, you could create a function that accepts an input and returns a value. If the function (not a procedure) is named GET_REFNO, you would call it using an expression in the default value field like:
    get_refno(:P3_REFTYPE)
    For a default value type of PL/SQL Function Body, you could call your existing procedure with a default value like:declare
        l_value varchar2(32767);
    begin
        get_refno(:P3_REFTYPE, l_value);
        return l_value;
    end;Scott

  • Anybody can help with this SQL?

    The table is simple, only 2 columns:
    create table personpay(
    id integer primary key,
    pay number(8,2) not null);
    So the original talbe looks like this:
    ID PAY
    1 800
    2 400
    3 1200
    4 500
    5 600
    6 1900
    The requirement is to use one single query(no pl/sql) to show something lile the following, in other words, for each ID, the pay is the sum of all before itself and itself. So the query result looks like this:
    ID PAY
    1 800
    2 1200
    3 2400
    4 2900
    5 3500
    6 5400
    Again, just use one sql. No pl/sql. Anybody can help with this? I really appreciate that.
    thanks,

    Eh, people are so "analytically minded" that can't even notice a simple join?
    Counting Ordered Rows
    Let’s start with a basic counting problem. Suppose we are given a list of integers, for example:
    x
    2
    3
    4
    6
    9
    and want to enumerate all of them sequentially like this:
    x      #
    2      1
    3      2
    4      3
    6      4
    9      5
    Enumerating rows in the increasing order is the same as counting how many rows precede a given row.
    SQL enjoys success unparalleled by any rival query language. Not the last reason for such popularity might be credited to its proximity to English . Let examine the informal idea
    Enumerating rows in increasing order is counting how many rows precede a given row.
    carefully. Perhaps the most important is that we referred to the rows in the source table twice: first, to a given row, second, to a preceding row. Therefore, we need to join our number list with itself (fig 1.1).
    Cartesian Product
    Surprisingly, not many basic SQL tutorials, which are so abundant on the web today, mention Cartesian product. Cartesian product is a join operator with no join condition
    select A.*, B.* from A, B
    Figure 1.1: Cartesian product of the set A = {2,3,4,6,9} by itself. Counting all the elements x that are no greater than y produces the sequence number of y in the set A.
    Carrying over this idea into formal SQL query is straightforward. As it is our first query in this book, let’s do it step by step. The Cartesian product itself is
    select t.x x, tt.x y
    from T t, T tt
    Next, the triangle area below the main diagonal is
    select t.x x, tt.x y
    from T t, T tt
    where tt.x <= t.x
    Finally, we need only one column – t.x – which we group the previous result by and count
    select t.x, count(*) seqNum
    from T t, T tt
    where tt.x <= t.x
    group by t.x
    What if we modify the problem slightly and ask for a list of pairs where each number is coupled with its predecessor?
    x      predecessor
    2
    3      2
    4      3
    6      4
    9      6
    Let me provide a typical mathematician’s answer, first -- it is remarkable in a certain way. Given that we already know how to number list elements successively, it might be tempted to reduce the current problem to the previous one:
    Enumerate all the numbers in the increasing order and match each sequence number seq# with predecessor seq#-1. Next!
    This attitude is, undoubtedly, the most economical way of thinking, although not necessarily producing the most efficient SQL. Therefore, let’s revisit our original approach, as illustrated on fig 1.2.
    Figure 1.2: Cartesian product of the set A = {2,3,4,6,9} by itself. The predecessor of y is the maximal number in a set of x that are less than y. There is no predecessor for y = 2.
    This translates into the following SQL query
    select t.x, max(tt.x) predecessor
    from T t, T tt
    where tt.x < t.x
    group by t.x
    Both solutions are expressed in standard SQL leveraging join and grouping with aggregation. Alternatively, instead of joining and grouping why don’t we calculate the count or max just in place as a correlated scalar subquery:
    select t.x,
    (select count(*) from T tt where tt.x <= t.x) seq#
    from T t
    group by t.x
    The subquery always returns a single value; this is why it is called scalar. The tt.x <= t.x predicate connects it to the outer query; this is why it is called correlated. Arguably, leveraging correlated scalar subqueries is one the most intuitive techniques to write SQL queries.
    How about counting rows that are not necessarily distinct? This is where our method breaks. It is challenging to distinguish duplicate rows by purely logical means, so that various less “pure” counting methods were devised. They all, however, require extending the SQL syntactically, which was the beginning of slipping along the ever increasing language complexity slope.
    Here is how analytic SQL extension counts rows
    select x, rank() over(order by x) seq# from T; -- first problem
    select x, lag() over(order by x) seq# from T; -- second problem
    Many people suggest that it’s not only more efficient, but more intuitive. The idea that “analytics rocks” can be challenged in many ways. The syntactic clarity has its cost: SQL programmer has to remember (or, at least, lookup) the list of analytic functions. The performance argument is not evident, since non-analytical queries are simpler construction from optimizer perspective. A shorter list of physical execution operators implies fewer query transformation rules, and less dramatic combinatorial explosion of the optimizer search space.
    It might even be argued that the syntax could be better. The partition by and order by clauses have similar functionality to the group by and order by clauses in the main query block. Yet one name was reused, and the other had been chosen to have a new name. Unlike other scalar expressions, which can be placed anywhere in SQL query where scalar values are accepted, the analytics clause lives in the scope of the select clause only. I have never been able to suppress an impression that analytic extension could be designed in more natural way.

  • Help with Update SQL

    Hi,
    I have the following SQL and I need your help.
    declare
    i_howMany number;
    begin
    i_howMany := ?;
    update NumberRange
    set lastNumberAssigned = lastNumberAssigned + i_howMany
    where rangeType = ? and lastNumberAssigned < maxNumber
    returning (lastNumberAssigned - i_howMany + 1), lastNumberAssigned into ?, ?;
    end;
    Is it possible to refactor the above SQL to return a ResultSet with 2 Number fields, i.e. fromNumber and toNumber?
    Regards,
    Judyee

    Hi,
    The table NumberRange has the following fields and data.
    This table is used to store the number sequences for Booking ID, Invoice ID, etc.
    Note that I can't use Oracle Sequences as the values are maintained by external parties, and a change to Oracle Sequences would mean a re-write of the application functionality.
    NumberRange
    rangeType maxNumber lastNumberAssigned
    'Booking' 20000 500
    'Invoice' 10000 10
    There are 2 input parameters:
    - i_howMany - this is used to get a range of numbers (i.e. from & to numbers) from NumberRange
    - rangeType - this is used to identify the rangeType, e.g. Booking.
    There are 2 output fields that contain the assigned number range (which I want to be returned in a ResultSet)
    - fromNumber
    - toNumber
    For example:
    1st parameter (i_howMany) = 5
    2nd parameter (rangeType) = 'Booking'
    Output fields (based on the above example) will be:
    - fromNumber = 501
    - toNumber = 505
    I just want the 2 output fields to be in a ResultSet as the calling program will be expecting the result in a ResultSet.
    Regards,
    Judee

  • Need help with locating a key using a value in a HashMap.

    I am quite new to Java and programming, and am just learning this in High School (enjoying it thoroughly). Sorry if I don't respect the etiquette or formatting of this board (it's unintentional).
    I am using the book, Objects First Wth Java A Practical Introduction Using Blue J and am working on extensively improving the "World of Zuul" project. Which is a text-based adventure game.
    Here is a code sample;
    public String getNameFromList(String name)
      boolean found = false;
      Set pairSet = xItemList.entrySet();
      for(Iterator iter = pairSet.iterator(); (found == false && iter.hasNext());){
      Item currentItem = (Item) iter.next().getValue();
      String currentKey = currentItem.getName();
      if(name.equals(currentKey)){
        String changedName = iter.next().getKey();
        return changedName;
    error; cannot resolve symbol:
    method: getValue()xItemList is a HashMap with String keys, and Item values.
    The relevant field of Item is name, which is a string.
    The currentKey local variable is a little misleading, it is the current name, but acts as the 'key' when looking for the actual key.
    changedName (if the parameter name is found from the item.getNames()), is what the method returns, the key associated with a object (by looking at the object's field).
    My objective for this method is for it to have a name as a parameter, which it searches for in the HashMap (by Iteration over the entrySet - or I suppose iteration over Set values(), but this loses which object value is tied to which key, doesn't it?), and returns the respective key.
    Any help would be very much appreciated (even if it is telling me that this can't be done with HashMaps!).

    It's not clear to me what your question is, or if indeed you even have a question.
    You seem to be having a problem with types. Iterators return Objects.
    So in this line:
      Item currentItem = (Item) iter.next().getValue();The iterator's next() method is returning an Object, and you're trying to call getValue() on that Object. But Object doesn't have a getValue() method. That would explain your error message. Map.Entry does; you apparently meant to call Map.Entry's getValue() method. You would cast the result of iter.next() to Map.Entry before you call getValue().
    Also you're calling next() on your iterator twice in the body of the loop, which means you're getting two different values... this is probably not what you intend.
    But you're making this more complicated than it needs to be anyway.
    Why are you iterating through the set of entries in the HashMap?
    The whole point of a Map is that you get an item using an object as the key. Just do xItemList.get(name). Right?

  • SQL Expression returning too many results

    I am trying to display the value of a field in one table as a caption in the report header. This  caption is above a u2018descriptionu2019 field in the details section. When I run my report, I get  the description field displaying 832 times; which is the number of rows found in my caption table. Here is the structure of the two tables:
    Table 1: Code, Description
    Table 2: Table, Name, Field Name, Caption
    Here are the SQL Expressions that I have tried:
    (SELECT Caption FROM Table2
        WHERE Table2.FieldName='Description'
              AND Table2.TableName='Code')
    (SELECT DISTINCT Caption FROM Table2
        WHERE Table2.FieldName='Description'
              AND Table2.TableName='Code')
    And
    (SELECT TOP 1 Caption FROM Table2
        WHERE Table2.FieldName='Description'
              AND Table2.TableName='Code')
    If I run these directly in my Db, I get correct results. If in Crystal, incorrect results. I have tried the following suppress on the Details: Table1.Code= previous (Table1.Code) which works UNLESS I have any summaries. Once I include a summary, my total ALWAYS factors in the suppressed, duplicate records.
    I have now moved to try using parameters and a sub report for each caption; however my existing reports have sub reports that also need caption changes and I am not aware of a way to add a subreport to a subreport
    Any ideas?

    can you use select distinct on all the queries,
    crystal tends to duplicate
    create a group for your distinct value
    place the records in the group header and it will return the first unique value it hits.

  • Conditional display of region with PL/SQL function returning SQL query

    Hello,
    ApEx 2.0.
    I use PL/SQL functions that return SQL queries to display the contents of a region.
    How could I conditionally display such region ? If no data is found, the region shouldn't be shown. I tried with "SQL query returns at least one row" but this doesn't seem to work.
    Thanks,
    Matthias

    Hi Matthias,
    Are the regions in question report regions? So your PL/SQL process is returning a SQL query and then populating a report?
    The EXISTS(SQL Query returns at least one row) condition should work, try running the query you are using in the Expression 1 textarea inside SQL*Plus, or SQL developer using the same parameters, and see what gets returned.
    If you are still stuck, can you post the query you are using inside your Expression 1 textarea of the Conditions section and I can take a look at it for you.
    Hope this helps,
    Cj
