Help with BitMap in DataGrid or List component

Please help me with the problem:
I need to fill out one of column of DataGrid with some
particular image. I need to load this image form web service.
If i try to use image which are represented as MovieClip and
placed in the Symbol Library- everything is okay, all cells filled
correctly. But if i've loaded image and put it into DataGrid i get
only one filled cell with this image. What is the difference? How
to prepare loaded image (or imported it to the Library) before
using them in DataGrid(or List)?
Please help!!
code of cellRender:
public class CellRender extends LabelButton implements
ICellRenderer
private var _listData:ListData;
private var _data:Object;
public function set data(d:Object):void {
_data = d;
public function get data():Object {
return _data;
public function set listData(ld:ListData):void
_listData = ld;
// this.setStyle("icon", image_from_Library); // - it works
- okay
this.setStyle("icon", ResourceLoader.resources[1]); // this
display only one image in one cell
// ResourceLoader.resources[1] - is represented as
// BitMap; resources - static Array with loaded bitmaps
}

hi,
Thanks for the link, but it doesn't really answear my question.
I have a very similar implementation, but what I'm trying to do is to repositioning, for example the first element in the grid so the zoom in state dont get cut by the conteiner.
I tried changing and animating the horizontal and vertical center in the hovered state, but for some reason that produce a "jump" in all the items...
any suggestions?
thanks!!!

• Need help with navigation within a spark list...

hey guys, so in my application when you click on a list item, it opens up an image, and along with the image a few buttons are created dynamically...
the image and the url/labels for the dynamic buttons is provided through an xml/xmlListCollection.
what i need help with is the url or more specifically when you click on one of these dynamic buttons it needs to navigate me to another part of an list or display a certain set of images that is not in my spark list...

i have attached a copy of the xml that i have right now to this post for reference...
any help will be greatly appretiated!!! i've been stuck on this problem for the last week and my project is due soon
again thank you in advance...

hey david... just nevermind my previous post... I was able to subclass a link button, so i now have two variables that get assigned to a link button,
one is "tabId" <-- contains the information on which tab to swtich to, and the second is, "changeTo"... this contans the label name which it needs to switch to
I'm just stuck on how to change my selected item in my tabNavigator/list
the code i have right now is
private function customButtonPressed(event:Event):void{
if(event.currentTarget.tabId == "troubleShooting"){
for each(var item:Object in troubleShootProvider){
if(item.@label == event.currentTarget.changeTo){

newButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, customButtonPressed);
dynamicButtons.addElement(newButton);
var isMultiPage:String = navControl[2]["multiPages"];

as you know, my xml gets divided into two saperate xmllistcollections one is the userOptionProvider, and the troubleshootingProvider

Im having some trouble updating my list... basically change to the troubleshooting tab, and then select the one that i need...
hopefully that makes sence...

• Help with creating a doubly linked list

So I have been working with this file our teacher gave us, which is his own "list" ADT which I posted below (with out the comments so it doesn't stretch the page for ever)
My question is, I cant really creat a DLL from this because I have nothing for the head, no previous or next or any of that...So could some one help me get off to the right start? Some of my class mates were like "create a SLL and then reverse it" well thats all fine and dandy but how?
A couple other student said "With this DLL i only had to write two lines for each method to implement the list"...Can that be done? Theres NO documentation any where on a DLL for java, and the linkedList in the java api...I dont think that's a DLL...
I SERIOUSLY need a nudge in the right direction....
package assignment.four.utilities;
import java.io.Serializable;
public interface List<E> extends Serializable
public int size ();
public void clear ();
public boolean add (int index, E toAdd) throws NullPointerException,
IndexOutOfBoundsException;
public boolean add (E toAdd) throws NullPointerException;
public boolean addAll (List<? extends E> toAdd) throws NullPointerException;
public E get (int index) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException;
public E remove (int index) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException;
public E remove (E toRemove) throws NullPointerException;
public E set (int index, E toChange) throws NullPointerException,
IndexOutOfBoundsException;
public boolean isEmpty ();
public boolean contains (E toFind) throws NullPointerException;
public E [] toArray (E [] toHold) throws NullPointerException;
public E [] toArray ();
public Iterator<E> iterator ();
}Again with my statement. Using that List ADT HOW do you even get started in the right direction to creating a DLL? I can use this to create an array list but i dont think i can for a dll?

Ok thats fine and dandy but we never learned how to make a DLL we learned last semester how to make a SLL and I kinda get that but again with the So, you know how to make an SLL? Then I would suggest starting with that. For instance, you know how to define a Node or Element or whatever-you-want-to-call-it class that holds Data and Next? Start with that, and see if you can work out how to add a Previous.
"there's nothing on DLL's" except for the same line over and over "They go backwards and forwards" and Im sorry but that doesn't cut it......So, [url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijae2WHdc9I]you know how to count blocks, but you don't know how to count oranges? That is, you know how to make forward links in a list, but not backward links? Really?
Is there any examples of Java Dlls implementing lists and bla?I'm sure there are plenty, and I'm sure your google works as well as mine.
like we cant implement any thing else as far as I know, it can only be this list....When I said you need to implement the various pieces, I meant in the normal English sense of the word, not in the Java keyword sense. Implementing a Node in the general sense is part of "implements List" in the Java keyword sense.
I know the asking for a sample implementation might be considered cheating in some peoples books Yup.
but i learn best from examples, explanations and what not...There's a world of difference between an example of a different use of the concepts that you're trying to learn and just doing your work for you. Whatever concepts this lesson is teaching that are being tested and reinforced by this homework, you can find plenty of examples without somebody providing a DLL implementation for you.

• Help with bitmaps in web banners

We have been doing a lot of web banners that incorporate
bitmap images (jpgs, gifs, pngs) but we are having trouble meeting
the size requirements of our intended sites. We have to compress
the images so much that they just look terrible and we still don't
make the requirements. Yet if you go on the web you see lots of
people making great ads with what appear to be fairly lightly
compressed images. How is this done? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks

We do use rich media for some media placements, but most
placements have ad size in the 30KB range so it seems rather
difficult to meet those requirements and still preserve quality.
Here is a link to a banner I have using as a test:
Banner
test
That banner needs to be less that 35KB and to that is has to
look like that. I would like the animation of the woman to be at
least twice that size, but if insert jpgs at the size I am way over
the limit. Also I would like to have her up longer but that too
takes me way over the size. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Use Xcode to copy/paste more belts. Rename belts as needed.
This is only the plist structure for drilling down and does not include details for each category beyond the items shown.
You can't be doing any of this if you have zero experience - you'll have questions for every tiny step and unless someone builds your app for you, you'll go ahead very, very slowly.
It is up to anyone with zero experience to spend time going thru the most basic hello world tutorials, as an example, and learn enough to be able to gain some traction on their own...this is not trivial stuff that you can just install a few tools and make what you want the next day, sorry.
See this post for beginner resources:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2218661
- come back when you've exhausted those and need specific help untangling something or if you get confused as you progress on your own...not just in over your head at the very beginning.

• Help with Searching a Datagrid

I am using the below code to search through a datagrid which is working fine. However, I want to search through more than one column and I can't seem to figure out the syntax. Can anyone help?
It is the city field (highlighted in red below) that tells it to only look at the one column...anyone know how to make it look at several columns?
Thanks.
Dave
private
function onResult(evt:ResultEvent):void
var sort:Sort = new Sort();     sort.fields = [new SortField("city",true) ];
this.homesForSale = evt.result.data.region;
this.homesForSale.sort = sort;
this.homesForSale.refresh();
this.cursor = this.homesForSale.createCursor();}
private function searchCity():void      {
if(search_ti.text != "") {
if(this.cursor.findFirst({city:search_ti.text})){
var idx:int = this.homesForSale.getItemIndex(this.cursor.current);
this.grid.scrollToIndex(idx);
this.grid.selectedItem = this.cursor.current;

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the response. I should have been more clear in my question. I can add more fields to my Array but if I add them in the function as well, it looks for the combination of the colums...like an "AND" statement...what I want is an "OR" clause...if it is in this column or that column...so I can search through every column in the datagrid.
Another question I have is how to use a variable for the column name. I could loop through it and dynamically put a column name in if it would accept a variable but I can figure out why it won't. In other words, replace the red city with a variable...it keeps giving a Flash player error says it needs a field name.
Thanks for the comments.

Hi,
I do believe that i clearly said what i considered usable. A simple example of sending a dbus message in java and a example of receiving a dbus message in java.
"Seeing that you have done extensive searching without satisfaction, any examples that might be provided here are unlikely to be useful"
Why do you think that. I simply can't find examples of what i'm looking which are the basic dbus things (sending and receiving). So any examples provided here are better then none at all.
I looked through the first 100 results of the google ling you gave me and the only possible interesting example is this one:
http://wiki.apertium.org/wiki/D-Bus_examples
I did however found another perhaps more interesting example:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dbus/2006-December/006647.html
which is a problem in a way but also provides the problem code which is good for me now :) and the solution is posted in the next mail there.
More examples are still fine ^_^

• Count the rows in a list-component

Hi,
How can I count the rows with a value in a list component?

• Help with a vertical scroll bar issue with a List component

hi. i have a basic <s:list> that uses an XMLListCollection as it's data provider and a very basic itemrenderer. when a row in the list is clicked a function gets the list.selectedIndex then populates some text fields with more xml data. that all works fine.. the problem i have is that the vertical scroll bar on the list seems to be "clickable" - just like a row in the list. the scroll bar scrolls normally but when it's clicked the selectedIndex becomes -1 which is not helpful b/c the value -1 is passed to the XMLListCollection.
any ideas? cheers.

thanks but still problematic...surely the <s:List> component shouldn't return a value when the scrollbar thumb is clicked? i created a very basic list (see below) and made the list dimensions short enough so that there is a vertical scrollbar and found that when the scrollbar thumb is clicked the trace(event.currentTarget.selectedIndex) returns a number. that's annoying b/c i just want a selectedIndex value for a row that is clicked not the scrollbar.
any ideas to get around? cheers

• Need help displaying images with List component for Flash CS4 (ActionScript 3.0)

Hi folks:
I am an inexperienced user of Flash CS4 Pro (v10.0.2). I am attempting to use the List component with ActionScript 3.0 to make a different image display when a user clicks each item in a list.
I did find a tutorial that showed me how to make different text display using a dynamic text box and the following ActionScript:
MyList.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, ShowSelectedItem);
function ShowSelectedItem(event:Event):void {
ListText.text=MyList.selectedItem.data;
...where My List is the instance of the List component and ListText is the dynamix text box. In this case, the user clicks an item in the list, defined by the label value in the dataProvider parameter of the List component, and text displays as defined in the data value in the dataProvider parameter.
However, as I mentioned to start, what I really want to do is make images display instead of text. Can anyone provide me the steps to do this?
I appreciate your help (in advance)!!
Cindy

Hi...thanks for responding! I was planning on using images from the Library, but if there is a better way to do it, I'm open. So far, I just have text in the data property. This is part of my problem. I don't know what I need to put in the data value for an image to display. Do I just put the image file name and Flash will know to pull it from the Library? Do I need to place the images on the stage on different frames? I apologize for the "stupid user" questions, but as you can tell, I'm a newbie.
Appreciate your patience and any help you can offer!

• How can I select an item from a list component with a seperate button

This is a repost, I decided it'd probably be better here than
in the general discussion board. I will try to delete the other
one.
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post here. I am trying to figure out how to
select an item within a list component with a button. This button
is calling a function. I have searched for the past 3 hours online
and I can't find anything about it. I thought perhaps I could set
the selectedItem parameter, but that is read only, and I believe it
returns an object reference rather than something like a number so
even if i could set it, it would be pointless. I also found a get
focus button, thought that may lead me somewhere, but I think that
is for setting which component has focus currently as far as typing
in and things like that. I am lost.
Basically I am looking for a way to type this
myList.setSelected(5); where 5 is the 5th item in the list.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Never mind found it. It is the property called selectedIndex
and it is writable

• Datagrid itemrenderer list rowcount not changing with data

I have a datagrid with an itemrenderer. the itemrenderer is a list component. I populate the list with different values for each datagrid row. this works fine. However, I want the list to reset the rowcount for each datagrid row. This is not happening. if the first datagrid row list box is 3 rows every list box in that column is 3 rows no matter what i do. here's my code:
<mx:List xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" rowCount="1">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.utils.ObjectProxy;
import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
import mx.utils.ArrayUtil;
[Bindable] private var arr:Array;
override public function set data( value:Object ) : void
super.data = value;
if(value != null && value.MEET is ArrayCollection)
var len:Number = value.MEET.length;
arr = new Array();
for each (var obj:ObjectProxy in value.MEET){
arr.push(obj.DAYS);
this.dataProvider = arr;
//labelField = "DAYS";
this.rowCount = len;
else if (value != null && value.MEET is ObjectProxy )
this.rowCount = 1;
this.dataProvider = value.MEET;
this.labelField = "DAYS";
else
this.rowCount = 1;
]]>
</mx:Script>
</mx:List>

Hello !
This trick makes my application freeze...
I've just an advancedDatagrid populated with arrays, and a list as renderer on some of its columns... I've got exactly the same problem (rowCount that is always the same, for all of my renderers instances), but your solution doesn't work it out...
Any idea ?
thanks a lot

• Help with Datagrid Column Creation

I'm trying to get a better understanding of how the Spark DataGrid component works so that I can create and extended version for one of my projects. One of the things that really has me stumped is how the datagrid sets up the columns based on the dataprovider when no explicit columns are defined. I've been able to debug through the datagrid initialization up to the point where the setter for dataprovider gets called. At that point my debug trace goes 'down the rabbit hole' so to speak, and when it comes back the columns are initialized but I can't figure out how. Could someone please point me to the Class/function that is actually responsible for creating the columns from the dataprovider if they are not defined explicitly?

I finally managed to track down the code I needed, it's in the commitProperties method of Grid.as (line 3555). That's the good news. The bad news is I still seem to be missing something. My understanding was, if the datagrid autogenerated the columns, those columns would be replaced if another collection of columns are defined for the datagrid at some later point. For some reason that doesn't seem to be happening for me.
The datagrid I'm working with is part of a larger component with a skin. The list of columns for the datagrid is bound to an ArrayList defined in the hostComponent of the skin. I can understand why the creation of the columns could happen before the binding from the host triggers, what I don't get is why they aren't overridden later. Any suggestions?
