Help with callback from script src= with jsp processing

I am trying to understand several different ways to get dynamic content into a system I am building. These include:
1. <script tags to fetch text from a jsp page
2. <img to fetch images from a jsp page
3. AJAX to fetch text from a jsp page.
(In all cases, the jsp pages will eventually get the data from a MySql database, but right now I am using static code.)
I am having a problem understanding how to use the <script option.
I am starting with an html page with a javascript callback function and a <script with the callback passed as a parameter. The callback function is based on a sample that I found that works, but I don't have the code for the called jsp page.

       var myobj = obj.ResultSet.totalResultsAvailable;
       alert("The result is "+myobj);
       this.document.getElementById("showTest1").innerHTML =  "The result is "+myobj;
</script>

2. Target for callback function must preceed the %lt;script tag as it must be loaded first or it will not yet exist when the callback function executes.<br>

<%
   // TestWS1.jsp:  return a simple string.....

   ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream (  ) ;
   PrintStream ps = new PrintStream ( baos ) ;
   ps.println("\"TestWS1: This is the returned string as HTML <br> This can be any HTML code.<br>\"");
   // now write the ByteArrayOutputStream to the outputstream
   response.setContentType("text/html");
   response.setHeader("Pragma", "no-cache");
   response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
   response.setDateHeader("Expires", 1);
   response.setDateHeader("max-age", 0);
   OutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
   baos.writeTo(os);
   os.close();
   System.out.println("TestWS1.jsp: done");
%>When I run TestWS1.jsp, I get the expected entries in the system log and the expected output:
"TestWS1: This is the returned string as HTML <br> This can be any HTML code.<br>"However, when I run the TestWS1Call.html, I get the entries in the system log but nothing fires the javascript function.
What am I missing?
Thank you

I found a solution to loading dynamic content using the <script src= tag.
This approach seems to be useful (a) for situations in the jsp content is dependent on client-side characteristics
(such as window size) and (b) because it seems to work on any browser with javascript and does not require an
ActiveX for older versions of IE.
I wrapped the output of the jsp page inside a javascript call to the callback function
   ps.println(callback+"(\"TestWS1: This is the returned string as HTML <br> This can be any HTML code.<br>\")");I also changed the content type to javascript.
   response.setContentType("text/javascript");Now, when the script tag is found, the jsp page returns a javascript function call to the callback function and passes
the desired content as a single parameter. The callback function then places the content in the appropriate
location on the page.

    Any help with this will be really appreciated. I'm new to programming.
    If I search for an ssn in a database, I want to view all records relating to that ssn. However, I am getting all the records in the table.
    eg.
    at the prompt for ssn, let's say I enter 111111111
    I would like to see
    111111111 abc xyz etc
    111111111 pdg ppp etc
    however, I am getting

    How do I make limit the search to the ssn I want?
    The related code is below.

    I don't see anywhere in your code where you conditionally output a tuple from your database. You seem to be outputting everything.
    Maybe you need:
    <% if (sSSN==input_value){ %>
    <TD><input TYPE="checkbox" name="<%=rowID %>" ></TD>
    <% } %>

    Actually you're probably off on a false trail with jsp:useBean. The more up to date methods use tag libraries (typically JSTL) and access bean attributes using EL, bean expression language. E.g. you put your initial form data into a request attribute called "data" and you put:
    <input type="text" name="property1" value="${data.property1}" ....useBean is no use for binding returned fields from a form. Always remember that your JSP generates HTML and once that HTML is sent to the browser that's it, the JSP has done it's job and finished. Only with JSF, at present, does what you write in your JSP affect the processing of received form data. When you get the form data back you need to "bind" the values from the request back to the bean. A framework like Spring will do this stuff for you, but in a raw Servlet/JSP environment it's up to you.

  • Help with JSP/Weblogic/Tomcat Discrepencies

    Hi,
              I have something very strange happening. I recently did some JSP stuff on
              WLS60SP1 and all went quite well. I then took those same JSP pages and tried
              them out on the latest release of TOMCAT. I was really impressed that
              everything seemed to be completely transparent and working just fine until
              the following situation:
              When I reference, within a JSP page, an object that has previously been
              added to the request scope that has just been created, but not messed with
              in anyway...meaning all the attributes in this bean have their default
              values set...and they are all Strings with the exception of one Integer
              using this format:
              <%= custVal.getCustomerNumber() %>
              - In WLS, what shows in the text field on the form is nothing, because
              customer number in the custVal object is null (default for a String)..this
              is what I want.
              - In Tomcat, what shows it the word "null".
              ...here is the weird part, by changing from scriptlet references to the
              <jsp:getProperty....> format such as....
              <jsp:getProperty name="custVal" property="customerNumber"/>
              -In WLS, he is still a happy camper and works just fine regardless of how I
              reference the bean
              -In Tomcat, I also get the correct results that I want.
              So, unlike most postings, I found out how to fix it but I would like to know
              why...any ideas?

  • Help with JSP and logic:iterate

    I have some queries hope someone can help me.
    I have a jsp page call request.jsp:
    ====================================
    <%@ page import="java.util.*" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-bean.tld" prefix="bean" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-logic.tld" prefix="logic" %>

       <jsp:useBean id="RD" class="RequestData" />

    I have done the exact one using JSP and servlets, trying to learn using JSP and custom tags. The one with JSP and servlet looks like:
    ============================================
    <%@ page import="RequestData" %>
    <%Iterator data = (Iterator)request.getAttribute("Data");
    while (data.hasNext()) {
       RequestData RD = (RequestData)data.next();
       out.println(RD.getRequestID() );
    }%>

    Oh think I got it...
    but one thing I'm not sure is...
    If I use "<jsp:useBean id="RD" class="RequestData" />", do I still need "<%@ page import="RequestData" %>"?
    I tried without and it gives me error...

    I understand your question only because I have a set up totally identical to yours. The thread Matt suggested does explain the situation (i.e. the server passed control to another page but the client doesn't know that), but doesn't necessarily give a good solution a problem that you may have, and that I do have:
    If the user sees the welcome page, and for some reason decides to "reload", the forward page is re-executed, even though it has done its job. This could be a problem for session management if you specifically don't want that job being done twice in a session. Now you could hack around that, but I'd really rather see a neat solution. Is there one?

  • Help with batch processing

    Hi, I am having trouble with batch processing. I want to apply adaptive noise reduction (ANR) to several files from the same source tapes. So, following the help instructions, I create a script from one file. When I try to apply it to the other files, instead of applying ANR to them, it simply saves them as is. The steps I perform are as follows:
    I select the entire wave (I have also tried it without first selecting)
    I open the scripts box in the file menu
    I click on open/new script collection and create a new script
    I title the new script
    I click 'record'
    I close the scripts box
    I run ANR on the file
    I go back to the scripts box and click 'stop current script'
    I click add to collection
    I close the scripts box
    I open the batch processing box
    I select the files, then the script, then I click to start processing
    When I try to apply this to script to other files, it saves them but doesn't apply ANR.
    Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? Also, in the scripts box, there are three options for the type of script that I can create. One is highlighted: 'Scripts start from scratch.' Is that the correct one to use? If not, how do I select one of the others? I click on them but nothing happens. Finally, when creating a script, do I save the file before or after clicking 'stop record'? I have tried it both ways but don't know which is correct (neither seems to make a difference).
    Just to be as thorough as possible, below is the text of one of my scripts, in case that contains any clues. Thanks so much for any and all help!!

    Make sure that the script you use is suitable for the sample rate and bit depth of the file. E.g. if you have 44100/32-bit files, then don't use a script that was recorded on a file with e.g. 48000/16-bit. If required, resample or make different scripts for different rates/depths.

  • Help with scheduling Process Flows in Workflow in 10gR2

    Dear All
    I am after some help with the scheduling of process flows (PF) in Workflow in OWB 10gR2. I am trying to set up some PF’s to handle the refresh of some staging tables from various source systems. I have created a separate Process Flow Module for each source systems, mainly just to keep them separate and organised. I have a number of mappings which all run fine if execute manually or linked directly to a schedule/job. The problem I am encountering is when I try to run process flows from schedules. I have created process flows ok and have run them manually and they complete fine so I know that the content of the PF is ok. After linking and deploying the jobs I can never get all the process flows to run from the various schedules. What appears to happen is that the first PF works ok and any other PF that are within the same Process Flow Module/packages also runs ok even if its running off as different schedules. However PF’s under the other Process Flow Module fail with the following error

    Following this error the PF will not even run manually! If I then stop the schedule and either drop or replace this failed PF thus redeploying, the PF then runs fine manually and if the restart the schedule it runs ok the next evening. My problem is that this then appears to impact on the other PF’s which all though have not been touched and ran ok the previous evening they then fail the following evening with the same error

  • I need help with the processes running a media server.

    Hi there!   I need some help with the following log please.  The processes listed I am assuming are the current processes being used from my MacBook Pro to the media server?  Is that correct?  Are these common processes?

  • Need some help with image processing

    I have an application where I am reading Code 128 barcodes.  Currently I process the images using IMAQ BCG Lookup with B=130, C=60, and G=0.75.  This works for about 96% of the images.  The other 4% of the images won't decode.  I've fiddled with the BCG settings, but can't get any better yield.
    The errors I'm getting are:
    -1074396150  not a valid Code 128 barcode (~65% of failures)
    -1074396142  not a valid linear barcode (~30% of failures)
    -1074395277  doesn't pass checksum (~5% of failures)
    I've attached a couple of images that won't decode.  These are as they came from the camera without any processing. I know it would be good to get higher resolution, but unfortunately, I am stuck with what I have.
    I'm hoping someone with more vision experience than I can suggest a better way to process the images.
    Thanks

    You might want to try the BCG before the expansion, also.
    There is only so much you can do with low resolution images.  The gaps between the bars are almost non-existant.  You might be able to do some sort of high pass filter horizontally to increase the contrast after expansion.

  • Help with JSP pre-compiling

    We have a web application using Jboss4.0.5, jdk 1.6 and And 1.6.5, and now we try to do a pre-compiling as part of our build procedure.
    That is the first time I am going to do a pre-comp of a major application, which includes about 1700 jsp files.
    The directory tree of the application is as follows:
    /project

        |---->/web_pre-comp/WEB-INF/classes ( it contains the compiled classes once the jsp java files are generated.   )

    We have a web application using Jboss4.0.5, jdk 1.6
    and And 1.6.5, and now we try to do a pre-compiling
    as part of our build procedure. Hi Charlie,
    According to your ant build script you're using Jasper compiler, but your web container is JBoss.
    I know that Tomcat uses the Jasper compiler --- but I don't know if JBoss supports Jasper or not. Please check with JBoss if they support Jasper, if not they my support a different pre-compiler.

    The 005f is expected, it is for internal reference for the pre-compiler, nothing to worry about.

    any pros please help? i know it's something to do with my jsp session validation. thanks in advance.

    one more thing, with regrads to the solution evnafets provided. I tried it out on all my pages that requires administrator rights and found that the code only redirects when it's not expecting any parameters. Else, it just display an error message there. Is there a way around this? Or I should let let my end user suffer?

  • Help with jsp and javaBean in eclipse/Tomcat

    Hi,
    I am new to JSP and JavaBean. I am going through tutorial for a jsp page that uses a javaBean. I am using eclipse to create jsp page and the java bean.
    My eclipse project "Date" has five package as under:-
    1. Deployment Descriptor
    2. Java Resources: src
    3. build
    4. WebContent
    I have my data.jsp page in WebContent/WEB-INF/ folder. When I just run date.jsp in a browser as: http://localhost:8080/Date/date.jsp, it gets launched into the browser correctly. But when I add a JavaBean "TimeFormatterBean.java" in the Java Resources:src folder and use it in date.jsp page, I get errors as under:-
    org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP:
    An error occurred at line: 5 in the jsp file: /date.jsp
    TimeFormatterBean cannot be resolved to a type
    2: pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"%>
    3: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    4:
    5: <jsp:useBean id="formatter" class="TimeFormatterBean"/>
    6:
    7: <html>
    8: <head>
    The data.jsp page is as under:-
    <jsp:useBean id="formatter" class="TimeFormatterBean"/>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
    <title>Insert title here</title>
    </head>
    <body>
         <h1> Date JSP </h1>
         <p> The  current time is:
         <%= new java.util.Date() %>
         <jsp:getProperty name="formatter" property="name"/>
         </p>
    </body>
    </html>I can see "TimeFormatterBean.class" in build/classes folder.
    If anyone could please help me out with this, it would be very helpful
    Thanks a lot!

    You probably should place TimeFormatterBean inside a package, or maybe you could try importing it , even if its in the default package, with something like this <%@ page import="TimeFormatterBean" %> at the top

  • Need serious help with JSP + JDBC/Database connection

    Hey all,
    I have to build an assignment using JSP pages. I am still pretty new and only learning through trial and error. I understand a bit now, and I have managed to get a bit done for it.
    I am having the most trouble with a Login Screen. The requirements are that the a form in a webpage has Username/Number and Password, the user clicks Login, and thats about it. The values for the username/number and password NEED to come from the database and I cannot manage to do this. The thing I have done is basically hardcode the values into the SQL statement in the .jsp file. This works, but only for that one user.
    I need it so it checks the username/number and password entered by the user, checks the database to see if they are in it, and if so, give access. I seriously am stuck and have no idea on what to do.
    I dont even know if I have made these JSP pages correct for starters, I can send them out if someone is willing to look/help.
    I have setup 3 other forms required for the assignment and they are reading data from the db and displaying within tables, I need to do this with non-hardcoded values aswell. Im pretty sure I need to use for example 'SELECT .... FROM .... WHERE username= +usrnm' (a variable instead of username="john" , this is hardcoded), I just CANNOT figure out how to go about it.
    Its hard to explain through here so I hope I gave enough info. A friend of mine gave some psuedocode i should use to make it, it seems ok to follow, its just I do not know enough to do it. He suggested:
    get the username and pass from the env vars
    open the db
    make an sql (eg SELECT user, pass FROM users WHERE user = envuser)
    index.jsp points to login.jsp
    login.jsp get the vars you put into index.jsp
    opened the db
    is the query returns nothing - then the user is wrong
    OR if the passwords dont match
    - redirect back to index.jsp
    if it does match
    - set up a session
    - redirect to mainmenu.jsp
    Anyway, thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi,
    Try this... it may help you...
    mainMenu.jsp
    <html>
    <body>
    <form method="POST" action="login.jsp">
    Username: <input type="text" name="cust_no">
    <p>
    Password: <input type="password" name="password">
    <p>
    <input type="submit" value="LOGIN">
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    login.jsp
    <%@ page import="java.io.*, java.sql.*"%>
    <html>
    <body>
    <%
    try {
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:rocky");
    Statement statement = connection.createStatement();
    String query = "SELECT cust_no, password FROM customers WHERE cust_no='";
    query += request.getParameter("cust_no") + "' AND password='";
    query += request.getParameter("password") + "';";
    ResultSet resSum = statement.executeQuery(query);
    if (request.getParameter("cust_no").equalsIgnoreCase(resSum.getString("cust_no") && request.getParameter("password").equalsIgnoreCase(resSum.getString("password"))
    %>
    <h2>You are logged in!</h2>
    <%
    else
    %>
    <h2>You better check your username and password!</h2>
    <%
    }catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe){
    System.err.println(cnfe);
    }catch (SQLException ex ){
    System.err.println( ex);
    }catch (Exception er){
    er.printStackTrace();
    %>
    </body>
    </html>
    I didn't check the code that I wrote. So you may have to fix some part of it. Also this may not be the best solution, but it will help you to understand the process easily.
    The more efficient method is to check whether the result set returned from the database is null or not.... I hope you got the idea... Good luck!
