Help with embedding Type1 OTF Fonts in Word 2007/2010 docs

Hi,
I purchased a few Adobe OpenType Pro fonts including Myriad Pro and Garamond Pro. I want to use those fonts in Word 2007 and/or 2010 .docx type documents. It works fine while I work on my PC which has the fonts installed. Word recognizes the fonts and I can use them, in the 2010 version even with some OpenType features like ligatures, medieval numerals, etc. However, I have tremendous difficulties embedding those fonts so recipients can actually read and/or edit my documents.
Exporting the fiels into PDF also skips embedding the fonts (at least as long as I use Microsofts PDF Export).
Can someone please tell me:
1) Is embedding of OpenType fonts in Word 2007 or 2010 possible at all?
2) If not, can I trade in the fonts for the corresponding TrueType versions?
3) If that is not possible, is there a way to convert the fonts into TrueType without losing too much of the font quality?
Thank you all for your kind support.
JP

Microsoft only allows embedding of TrueType fonts and OpenType TrueType-flavored fonts to be embedded in their Office documents. There is nothing in OpenType CFF fonts (the OpenType fonts with Type 1 outlines in them) from being embedded in Office documents other than a business decision by Microsoft. Complain to them.
No, Adobe does not provide its OpenType CFF fonts in OpenType TrueType format.
No, there is no reasonable way to “convert” OpenType CFF fonts to OpenType TrueType format without some degradation of quality. Essentially you would be converting Bezier curves definition outlines in quadratic curve outlines and discarding the hinting which provides for intelligent scaling.
I suggest you complain to Microsoft about this. Again, it is their business decision and pretty bone-headed one at that!

  • Help with embedding videos

    Hello,
    I please need help with embedding videos from youtube. I do this via the Web panel (not the video panel) and copied the embed code on Youtube and pasted it into my Indesign CS6 (autoplay activated). I did it according to that helpful video: http://blogs.adobe.com/jlockman/2013/06/04/embedding-youtube-videos-into-your-dps-project/
    However, when testing this on my iPad, only a white box appears and I cannot press a play button.

    Are you sure, that you changed code from youtube?
    Code from youtube is:
    src="//www.youtube.com/embed/KulFWmvbEu4
    but you need to change it to
    src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KulFWmvbEu4
    For us, best result is to embed video via:
    menu Object > Include HTML (don't know exact english name of menu), paste iframe code with correct http link and then it works.

  • Problem with Embedded "Adobe Arabic" Font

    I realy have defficulty getting embedded "Adobe Arabic" font to work, beleive me, I have tried lots of different approaches, but it won't join the glyphs properly using it as Embedded font.
    Please try typing the word مُعَلِم into the textlayout component. notice this words uses the combination of letters and ligatures. if you choose to use the "Adobe Arabic" as a system Font assuming you have already installed the Adobe Arabic into the system, it shows as مُعَلِم, which is correct.
    However if you choose to use the Adobe Arabic font as an Embeded font, it displays the word as the above but puts spaces between each letter.
    I have tried brian's solution "Using a font SWF in a Flash Profession CS4 application" the World Language application, and still shows wrong and it does not join the glyphs properly if and only if you use letter and ligatures like the word مُعَلِم.
    in your example you have used the word الإخاء which renders properly but try using مُعَلِم and see what happens.
    Please have a look at the attached file for more information.

  • How do you keep embedded documents during conversion from Word 2007 to PDF?

    Windows 7, with all available patches.
    Word 2007, with all available patches.
    Acrobat reader 9.3.2
    I have additional documents, spreadsheets etc embedded into a Microsoft Office Word document. When this document is converted to the PDF (using the Word PDF add-in interface) the embedded objects can no longer be opened and only appear as images.
    Is there a way to retain the embedded document during the conversion so that they can be opened from within the resulting PDF?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks very much for your repsonse, it's much appreciated
    I don't have Acrobat X installed at this time so am not able to create or edit PDFs (other than from Word).  I understand that creating a PDF from Word may not be an Acobat issue per se, but thought that someone on this forum may have experienced a similar problem, hence thought I'd try my luck here
    I will do as you suggest and try an MS forum
    Thanks again

  • Problem with index markers and importing MS Word 2007 files

    This was ugly in that it wasn't caught until after a book had been typeset and the index was being finalized. I'm now having to go back and manually insert a zillion index markers. Not fun.
    This was my first project since migrating from FM 7.1 to FM9.0.3.
    Source documents are Microsoft Word 2007. Am working in Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit.
    When the Word files were imported into FrameMaker, only SOME of the index markers were imported. The difference between those that were imported and those that weren't was seemingly random.
    I did some testing and found the problem and a solution.
    Looking at the source Word .docx file, and displaying hidden text shows two types of index markers:
    1. { XE "word to be indexed"}
    2. {xe "word to be indexed"}
    Note the difference in case and the extra space after the opening brace in #1. Markers of type 1 were imported fine. Markers of type 2 were stripped by the import process.
    The solution:
    Backsave the Word file to Word 2003 format (.doc) before importing into FrameMaker.
    I backsaved to Word 2003 and imported using both the "Microsoft Word" and "Microsoft Word 2007" filters and both filters imported correctly. It's only when trying to import a Word 2007 .docx file directly that things run amok.
    Grr...

    Thank you for posting your solution, Dan. It's cold comfort, but I've also ran into this issue in the past, almost certainly well before Word2003 though, probably as far back as Word2000 or earlier.
    In your testing, did you try saving as RTF to see if the markers were homogenized, by any chance? In my simple testing just now, Word itself recognized the index field correctly no matter whether I changed the field to "xe" or "XE", but FM's import of the .docx file format wouldn't recognize "xe", only "XE". But importing an RTF file handled both upper- and lower-case entries.
    Ah, yes, that's it -- saving the Word2007 file as RTF (with 2 fields, one caps, one lower-case) changed cap field to lower-case when the RTF is opened in Word again, so saving as RTF does homogenize the fields to lower-case. Is it possible that your file(s) were changed to or saved as RTF at any point in their life-cycle? I believe some older versions of Word were actually RTF under the hood, too -- if you do Save As in Word2007 you can scroll through the File Type entries and see "Word 97-2002 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)"  I believe some doc management systems change binaries to RTF too, or conversely some apps create RTF but they name the files as doc.
    So Word itself recognizes either lower- or upper-case, and FM's RTF import handles both, but not the .docx import.

  • Help with embedding fonts in swf file

    Hi, I am haviing a problem with my fonts displaying in my swf file. I created the flash site using CS4 on a mac. I thought the fonts were embedded but when I tested the swf in safari and firefox the fonts disappeared are all scrunched up in 1/2" on top of each other in several lines. Its a mess. It is displaying in times or some other font when viewed in on a pc browser.
    What I did so far that did not work:
    Made fonts static with animation
    made fonts dynamic with animation
    How can I fix this?
    I am still a beginner using flash so the simpler the option the better.
    Thanks!!!

    there are quite a few ways you could mess this up but no one way that's typical.
    create a new fla.  click on the text tool, select static in the combobox and add a textfield to the stage.  animate it.  test it.  any problems?
    any other way (or ordering of steps) you use to create static text is prone to problems.

  • Help with embedding XML / Flash Banner Rotator?!?

    Hey guys, please help me; I'm having some trouble embedding this flash/xml banner rotator into this page, I can see that the file has been uploaded, however when I try to place it into the page, it just doesn't work. I even get error reports from IE, the code was all place by dreamweaver.
    The first set of code below is the entire page, the second set is the part that isn't working for me (the part I'm too dumb to fix).
    The code that is highlighted in red is the code with the <embed> tag.

    problem here :
    Really, all of you thank you so much for your help, it is appreciated more than you know! Thank you!

    Hi
    All I am seeing is your actual page layout, no code.
    But as you say it is an xml file (swf), it is more than likely that you have placed the swf and xml files in incompatible places. So without seeing your code, all I can suggest is to check the file placement of all items.
    PZ
    Can see the code now, for some reason it was rendering the code, not displaying it until I refreshed the page.

  • Help with embedding Javascript for Lightbox Photo Gallery in Muse!

    Hi all:
    I am fairly new to Muse and I have been having trouble finding relevant information for embedding Javascript in order to get a lightbox to work in Muse. Would anyone be able to walk me through embedding the Javascript for the Lightbox Photogallery for Picasa in Muse?
    This is the code I want to use: Lightbox Photo Gallery and Slideshow for Picasa
    And this is the look I am trying to accomplish within my Muse site: Cycling Around The World / January 2006 / Picasa Template by www.paulvanroekel.nl
    Any help would be appreciate. Thanks much,
    Alexis

    Hi,
    I have tried inserting the script that you have pasted above as HTML on my test site and it worked.
    What happens is whenever you insert something as HTML, Muse by default creates a div tag and places the content within the div tag. What I have done differently is I have inserted the JS with in the <script> tag and it has inserted the Javascript in this manner,
    I beleive that since this a browser re-direct script that you are using, you would like to place this in the head section and not in the body tag, however, that is certainly not possible using Muse as it does not allow access to the code it generates as a muse file.
    You, can still export the pages as HTML and make the appropriate changes there before uploading to the server.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards,

  • Can I get some help with embedded attachments, please?

    Hi guys,
    I am having the reverse problem with attachments, I actually *want* a file to remain embedded in an email. When my clients on PC or webmail open my e-mails, the attachment comes through no longer inline, but as an attachment that they have to click and download. It happens whether the file is a .jpg or .pdf. I have "Windows friendly Attachments" checked.
    Is there a work-around to this? I know in Outlook you can manually embed an image, but I don't want to have to buy it just to be able to work with PC clients.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    The mail servers and other factors that have been mentioned are actually rarely an issue in this case. The problem lies in Mail, which will send an HTML message with correctly embedded images only if all of the following conditions are met:
    The message format is set to "rich text" (this is how Mail calls HTML).
    The message contains actual text formatting (different styles, colors, fonts or font sizes, etc.).
    The message does not contain any attachments other than images.
    If you don't need to send embedded images very often and stick to the three above rules, it will work OK.
    If you need to send embedded images reliably without having to worry about formatting and other attachments you can try Attachment Tamer:  It's a Mail plug-in that among other things allows you to send embedded images reliably. It always sends attachments as they are displayed (images displayed in place are sent as embedded images, any files displayed as icons as regular attachments). You set up how you prefer files to be displayed and attached and default, and then adjust individual attachments as needed. Unlike Thunderbird, Attachment Tamer isn't free, but it costs just a few bucks and integrates with Apple Mail seamlessly (and there is of course a free trial version).
    (The forum conditions require me to say that I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. Indeed, I'm the developer of Attachment Tamer.)

  • Need help with embedded SWF Playing

    I have an embedded SWF file (A 4 photo slide show) created in Flash Professional CS5, Action script 3, flash player 10 selected.
    I have placed this into the flash catalyst CS5 file. The file previews in the browser perfectly.
    The problem is when published it will not start the slideshow until you refresh the browser (Safari and FireFox) the local version runs fine
    the published version does not even when uploaded to the web server. www.ngambaisland.com
    This site was woking properly before I made some changes to the slide show and rebuilt the file to optimize it for loading performance.
    Please help if you can,
    Many Thanks,
    Curtis

    Thanks for looking but I have tested the website on 5 different computers an the slide show only activates after you hit the screen refresh button.
    I am afraid I am a bit limited in flash. You mentioned to check access settings. I used the default action script 3 settings in the publish settings.
    Could you please be more descriptive as what to look for or what settings I would need to change?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Need help with embedded SWF in PDF as navigation

    Hi,
    I was wondering is there a way to have an embedded swf navigate to different pages of a pdf?
    Example:
    My swf is on page one. There are mulitple buttons in the swf, when clicked it will take you to page 3, or 5, or 7, etc.
    Currently, when I click on a button, it DOES take me to say page 4, but the content on page is the SWF file from page 1, and not the content that is suppose to be on page 4. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    This is what I have in the flash action:
    btn_1994_1.addEventListener( MouseEvent.CLICK, p1994 );
    function p1994(e:MouseEvent):void{
         //addChild(pop_1994);
         doExternalInterfaceCall("gotoTarget", "pink");
    function doExternalInterfaceCall(myfncall, parm)
        flash.external.ExternalInterface.call(myfncall,parm);
    And this is what I have in the javascript of the pdf:
    function gotoTarget(name)
         this.gotoNamedDest(name);
    Please help me fix this problem.
    Thanks in advanced!
    ps. I am using Acrobat 9 Pro

    can anyone help?

  • Need help with embedded cue points in FLV please (quickly/ :-))

    Here is my scenario - I have a flv streaming in a swf. All I
    want to do is to is call the cuepoint (event) in the flv, so that
    it will go to and play somewhere else further down the timeline of
    the swf - I don't think it should require much AS, but I haven't
    done much communication of this sort between an flv and it's parent
    swf. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    I figured it out. If anyone is interested, this the code snippet I found in Adobes help that allows you to access cue points and trigger events on flv's brought in with netstream:
    function onCuePoint(infoObject:Object):void
    trace("onCuePoint:");
    for (var propName:String in infoObject) {
    if (propName != "Run")
    RunCuePoint.visible=true
    else
    trace("parameters =");
    if (infoObject.parameters != undefined) {
    for (var paramName:String in infoObject.parameters)
    trace(" " + paramName + ": " + infoObject.parameters[paramName]);

  • Help with embedded MYSQL

    Hello,
    I try to create a desktop appliaction with netbeans and I want to save my data to a database.I try it with a mysql server and all is ok.But I want to try it with a embedded mysql server(like mysql.jar).I archive this before a year with h2db embedded drivers, but now I want to archive this with mysql.
    So my question is can I do this?If yes, what files must to download and import into my project?and what about jdbc url?
    Thank you.

    mysql.jar represents the MySQL JDBC driver, not the embedded database. MySQL doesn't offer an Java based database. MySQL is a real database server which you need to install separately at the same machine. If you want a Java database, then you need to look for for example Hypersonic (which is the h2db you used), JavaDB (ships with JDK6) or Cloudspace.

  • Help with program using hashtable to count words & other chars in txt file

    I need to use only a hashtable to count the occurences words and chars in a text file and display them alphabetically. I am not to use anything but the hashtable. so far, I can get it to count only the words in the file and not the chars, I want to know how to make it count the chars (,.;:?(){}[]!@#$%^&\t\"<>/`~ ) that may be found and if it is possible to get it to display them in a sorted (alphabetical) order w/o using anything else.
    This is what I have: mport java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    class words{
    String word;
    int count;
    public class WordCount{
    static Hashtable h=new Hashtable();
    static words w;
    static void countWords(String s){
    if((w=(words)h.get((java.lang.Object)s))==null){
    w=new words();
    w.word=s;
    w.count=1;
    h.put(s,w);
    }else{
    w.count++;
    h.remove(s);
    h.put(s,w);
    public static void main(String args[]){
    String s;
    StringTokenizer st;
    String t;
    String fn = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter the filename:");
    BufferedReader br = null;
    try{
    br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fn));
    s=br.readLine();
    while(s!=null){
    st= new StringTokenizer(s, " ,.;:?(){}[]!@#$%^&\t\"<>/`~  ");
    // Split your words.
    while(st.hasMoreTokens()){
    t=st.nextToken();
    countWords(t);
    s=br.readLine();
    }catch(Exception e){
    e.printStackTrace();
    Enumeration e=h.elements();
    w=(words)e.nextElement();
    while(e.hasMoreElements()){
    System.out.println(w.word + " " + w.count);
    w=(words)e.nextElement();
    System.exit(0);
    }

    Please don't crosspost. It cuts down on the effectiveness of responses, leads to people wasting their time answering what others have already answered, makes for difficult discussion, and is generally just annoying and bad form.
