Help with listener.ora

I'm trying to set up my linux box so someone can telnet in and run a couple of queries in SQL*PLUS. I have th tnsnames.ora file setup correctly - I think. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with listener.ora. I know that this file is used by lsnrctl. Can someone give me some help with this? Thanks.

How did u know that your tnsnames.ora works, when you have not setup listener.ora?
Anyway, this might help:

  • Help with Listener.ora file location on Suse Linux

    Hi
    Ok, 2 scenarios
    Scenario 1
    Installed Oracle 10.1.0.3.0 on Suse 9.2, the location of the listner is: /oracle/dborafiles/application_name/instance/admin/netadmin/
    Which is great, as this is where i want the listener and tnsnames.ora files to be under.
    Scenario 2
    Installed Oracle 10.2.0.1.0 on Suse 9.2 (using exactly the same method for doing the above instllation), and for some odd reason, the location of Listner and tnsnames.ora files are under:
    /oracle/dboracle/orabase/product/10.2.0.1.0/network/admin/
    This is the wrong location for me, I want the listner and tnsnames .ora files to be under same like scenario 1.
    2 Questions:
    Q1: why the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files are diffrent location in Scenario 2 comapred to Scenario 1.
    Q2: How do I correct it.
    Note: the TNS_ADMIN in .profile is exactly the same for the above 2 installations, changed the applciation name and sid offocure, but all the same:
    TNS_ADMIN=/oracle/dborafiles/applicatio_name/instance_name/admin/netadmin
    export ORACLE_SID ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME PATH
    Can someone please help?

    For a long time now, the tnsnames and listener files have been placed in the ${ORACLE_HOME}/network/admin by default. That is the location that the installer will create these files in.
    Don't know why 10.1.0.3.0 install created the files in that folder. That is not the default behaviour in versions prior to this and versions after this.
    Check the settings of the environment variables that were in effect at the time of 10.1.0.3.0 install.

    I can't get the listener running.

    Assume you've got $ORACLE_HOME
    We'd end run listener problems by setting/exporting TNS_ADMIN and putting tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files in a standard place ( ../dbs for our site) rather than Oracle's defaults.
    We'd also found that there is a parsing problem of the tnsnames.ora file by 9.2 ( its in AIX and MAC versions at least). Placing the entire description section on a single line consistently resolved problem.
    Opening a Tar on that one.
    So Now we're accessing Dbs based on mac and AIX from Multiple MAC and AIX remote sites with SQLPLUS and thin clients.

    Fedora is free and Oracle has given it the thumbs up. Plus there are tons of docs available, from installation to trouble shooting. I would go with Fedora, especially since it won't hurt your budget.

    The database does not start qe and get an error "ora-27101 shared memory realm does not exist".
    At first and solved momentarily reboot oracle service ...... but after a while does not work but I can not conextar to leave the base because this errror ......
    The database is a lapto instalao .... and I have 100gb of free space and 4 gb of memory do not understand why this happens .....
    I have to do so you can have acces oracle based ...
    I can help with this problem .... thanks ....
    I like to see that show me with pictures as I am new in this aspect of oracle .... and want to learn it .... thank you very much

    Hello friend..
    The error you are getting *"ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist"* may be coz you are trying to connect to your database which is already shutdown not as sysdba user but as some other user, becoz of which you are getting this error. It sometimes happen that the service of the database is already started but when you try to connect to a shutdown database as users other then sys even having the DBA priviledges you cannot connect to database.
    Try to connect as SYS user hope your problem will be resolved.

  • Need Help with Listener on JInternalFrame

    Below is the code as it is currently.
    public class addCustomer extends JInternalFrame implements ActionListener{
    //Variable declarations here
    private JPanel panel = new JPanel();
    private JLabel label1,label2,label3,label4,label5,label6,label7,label8,label9,icon1;
    private JTextField CustNum,CFName,CSName,Address1,Address2,City,PostCode,Tel,Cell;
    private JButton Cancel, Add;

    addCustomer() {
    super ("Add New Customer",true,true,true,true);
    setSize(350,370);
    setResizable(false);
    On the Frame I have a textfield that I would like to add a listener to. When text is typed into the textfield it should enable a JButton on the frame. My problem is that as soon as I implement KeyListener or EventListener on the above code I get an error of the class is not defined as abstract. If I define it as abstract my main declaration that looks like this gives me an error :
    public static void main(String args[]){
    new Video().show();
    Can anyone help me with a work around.

  • Help with Listener design please

    i have an JFrame with a bunch of components...i guess i want all the interactive parts (buttons, jtextfields) to use the same actionlistener...
    but i dont want the jframe class to implement it an actionlistener but to use its own listener obj
    the one good thing about a class implementing a listener is that the listener has access to all the classes variables (buttons etc), how do i separate the listener into its own class while having access to the implementing class' variables?
    this is the way im doing it now
    public class IssuePoolListener implements ActionListener{
        private IssuePoolGUI2 owner;
        private JTextField symbolField;
        private JTextField descField;
        private JTextField searchField;
        public IssuePoolListener(IssuePoolGUI2 owner){
            this.owner = owner;
            symbolField = owner.getSymbolField();
            descField = owner.getDescriptionField();
            searchField = owner.getSearchField();
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
        //have access to owners variables
    }its ugly.
    if i where just to have
    public class myJFrame imlements ActionListener{
    //all myJFrame code [maybe lots of lines]
        public void actionListener{
        //maybe lots of lines
           if(command.equals(blah)
              blah();
           else if(command.equals(blah2)
               blah2();
           etc
    blah(){...have access to all variables...};
    blah2(){....have access to all variables...};this way i dont need all those getters, but the myJFrame class is way bigger...
    is there a better way? thanks

    If the task is small, most any approach will eventually succeed. But you should get in the habit of
    writing cohesive classes. And when it comes to making ActionListeners, I like using Action.
    As far as the division between your frame (or GUI class) and the ActionListener, if your Listener
    knows about IssuePoolGUI2 , methods getDescriptionField and so on, it is then so closely tied to
    your GUI class it might as well be part of it -- say an inner class.

    I am having trouble connecting to my Oracle database.  I'm not sure what the cause was, but now when I connect to a database that has been working fine for the past two years, I usually get a ORA-12541 error.
    I run lsnrctl status on the server and get a prinout like this:
    Copyright (c) 1991, 2010, Oracle.  All rights reserved.
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=dqaswn02)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
      TNS-00511: No listener
       64-bit Windows Error: 61: Unknown error
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC1521)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
      TNS-00511: No listener
       64-bit Windows Error: 2: No such file or directory
    I've also tried manually stopping the service via services.msc and then restarting via lsnrctl start, but when I do this I get a really long delay (10+ minutes) before it returns with something like:
    TNS-01153: Failed to process string: 0í≈♥
    I'm pretty lost as to what is wrong.  I've been messing around with listener.ora, but I don't see anything problematic in there.  Here's a copy:
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: E:\app\myc0714\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

          (PROGRAM = extproc)

    # ADR_BASE_LISTENER = E:\app\myc0714
    LOG_FILE_LISTENER = LISTENER
    TRACE_LEVEL_LISTENER = SUPPORT
    TRACE_FILE_LISTENER = LISTENER
    However, a few times during this I've been able to connect to the server, via sqlplus, but it has taken 10 minutes before the connection comes online.  Once I'm connected, I can query my tables as expected, but I need an application to connect.
    If anyone has any ideas on what could be wrong, please let me know.

    When I opened up netca, I didn't have any listeners configured, which seems very strange.  When adding it, I get this message in the cmd window:
    Oracle Net Services Configuration:
    Configuring Listener:LISTENER
    ServiceAliasException: Could not save Service Alias: TNS-04406: Object already e

        Listener start failed.
    I killed the service via services.msc again and tried starting the lsnrctl.  This time I've got a new listening service going:

    I just tried starting the trace.  I'm waiting for it to connect, I guess.  I'll post anything I get out of it when it returns.

  • Listener.ora file on RAC 11gR2 with SCAN

    Hello,
    I have 11.2.0.1 Rac with 2 nodes configured to work with SCAN.
    The following listener.ora file was created during the rac installation.
    (I only changed the name of the instance to XYZ in the output bellow).
    There is only one listener.ora file for both the rdbms instance and the ASM instance.
    Is it a good best practice or should i consider to create a seperate listener.ora

    The listener.ora is look as follow:

    Is it a good best practice or should i consider to create a seperate listener.ora to the rdbms instance and to the ASM instance ?No, you should not be creating separate listener for each Grid & DB. Listener is node specific resource. Oracle recommends in RAC environment the listener should be configured from GRID home and it will be able to serve both Grid and DB services.
    It also helps in maintenance where as you can upgrade DB without bothering Listener, can have several db instances, and can have several versions of DB supported by a single listener.
    I hope this answers your question. if yes please mark the question as answered and do not forget marking answer as a Correct answer.

    This makes no sense.  You don't configure a listener nor a tnsnames.ora "in a database".   I hope this is just a language issue and not reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how tns works.

  • Configuring tnsnames.ora / listener.ora with HOST = localhost

    Dear Oracle experts,
    presently I'm trying to configure an Oracle installation on a Win2k server
    to work with HOST = localhost entries in my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.
    I have to do that because I want to use that Oracle installation as an image
    for several computers which will get different IPs and computer names.
    My problem is, taht I only can configure my entries with a real IP adres (127.0.0.1 does not work ) or with the present name of the system but not with localhost or 127.0.0.1.
    My listener.ora looks like below :
    # listener.ora Network Configuration File: D:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SDU = 4096)
    (SID_NAME = EMS)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1)
    (PRESPAWN_MAX = 10)
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost )(PORT = 1521))
    The listener above lead to a
    ERROR - ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    if I try to connect via iSQLPlus. If I exchange HOST = localhost with HOST = mydnsname the I can connect to the computer via isqlplus.
    Is there any possibility to configure the listener and tnsnames without using real IP adresses ?
    Best regards,
    Daniel Wetzler
